I did not realize this is a restaurant with Michelin Guide rated in 2021. Do not hold an expectation of a typical Indian restaurant that near where you live which serve spicy and spicy and spicy curry. The curry they served is kind of like the sauce that you' ll only taste in French restaurant. It is so smooth that you did not even notice that is curry. The good thing about this restaurant is that they constantly change their menu, the bad thing about the restaurant is also they constantly change the menu which you hope you can order the food in pictures while you are searching for the restaurant. Overall, I will say it should be a great restaurant. I guess I did not order their best dishes yet, as some of the dishes did not meet my expectation for their price.

Having read some very positive reviews, I was really looking forward to our dinner at Rooh in anticipation of experiencing an element of uniqueness to Indian cuisine. I’ve experienced upscale Indian dining in New York and was hoping that Rooh would be at par with that. I am afraid I probably won’t be visiting again! Dining : Initially we were very wary of being situated in the tent due to frigid Chicago winters, however they have made a noteworthy effort of keeping social distancing guidelines in mind and placing adequate ceiling heaters. Our waiter was extremely slow and inattentive during the course of our meal. We exercised patience but eventually had to get up and walk inside the restaurant to order desserts for our table. Also, it would be nice if the waiters make an effort to repeat orders as we also had a mishap where our waiter just didn’t take a note of main course dish that we intended to order and that led to significant delays. Dishes : Our order comprised of- Avocado chickpeas chat, Lamb Keema Hyderabadi, Roasted Butternut Squash, Butter Chicken & Naan, Cashew Cake & Chocolate Rum Ball. The appetizers and main course were nothing extraordinary but the desserts were definitely piece de resistance of our entire meal. They were beautifully plated, delectable, and worth giving a try if anything. Overall : While upscale Indian dining is an expensive affair, it is priceless if offers a sense of novelty to those who already know the cuisine well. I really was hoping Rooh would be my go to place for experiencing upscale Indian dining provided that Chicago doesn’t have many, but it did not meet my expectations unfortunately!

My family and I went to Rooh for dinner last night and it was absolutely exceptional. I savored literally every bite. Our entire table ordered the 4 Course Chef’s Tasting Menu, so I was able to try a wide array of Rooh’s offerings. My favorite dishes that I ate were the Grilled Prawn Small Plate and the Sea Bass (with basmati rice or saffron rice). The sauce on the grilled prawns was particularly outstanding for its incredible flavor, a touch spicy with fantastic Indian spices. Excellent all around: service, food, atmosphere, and meal pacing– I highly recommend!

This is a might try Indian fusion restaurant. From the atmosphere to the service and food, it is amazing. People are nice and friendly and explain the food so well. One of the best sea bass I have ever had and the best butter chicken I have ever tried in USA or India. If you like Indian food go here. Lastly get the cheesecake, it is not your typical cheesecake, it will send your mind and tummy into nirvana.

Great experience with the indigenous preparations both with the food and old style Mocktail and cocktails. They hold the Michelin star ⭐ in 2021 and definitely living up to the expectations with the spectacular customer experience services with their hospitality. Would recommend making reservations beforehand as the place gets very busy in the evenings. Food served at the right temperature, on time and ease. Do try their Jackfruit cutlets and Avocado appetizer while you catch up with friends and coworkers over the 🍷

Went there for dinner. It’s an upscale Indian restaurant. A bit too pricey but not too worth it! Maybe since it’s Michelin reviewed, so the prices are what they are. The staff and service is good. But the taste and the experience it’s that great as the price! Overall it was an ok-ish experience. During covid they have a dome shaped tent for the diners. Better if you reserve and visit.

The food quality is definitely dropped compared to my last visit on February 2020. The naan bread was dried feels like eating paper, too much tamarind on my chat starter. The saffron rice also don't taste fresh. The paneer dish is still as good as previously. Sorry to say but looks like Covid19 as impacted on your restaurant food quality.

Nothing short of amazing! Any compliments for the Owner and his staff would be an understatement! The food was very delicious and flavorful from the small plates to the entree and of course the dessert we were blown away! The taste was different from the typical Indian flavors you can get anywhere else! Definitely would recommend large party or small! I will always have Rooh on my list of places to visit again.

Rooh offers great service and a diverse range of Indian dishes. I'm not sure what my favorite dishes were, but I can safely say that everything was good. I'd suggest bringing a few people to dine considering Rooh feels like a communal experience. I'd stop back in if I lived in the area.

I’m not convinced this is the most flavorful Indian food I’ve had, but it was good overall. Menu selection is quite small. My favorite plate was the chili cheese kulcha, which I highly recommend - it was super fresh with the perfect amount of cheese and chili. Other menu items ordered: potato chaat - very good but maybe a bit too creamy. Cutlet - freshly made with authentic taste, daal - delicious but it does not come with rice or bread, and paneer pasanda- nothing special but good too! Excellent service. Atmosphere was perfect for date night however, the music selection did not match the vibe. Nice easy going or soft music from India would have been more enjoyable. Also, for the prices they charge, I would expect furniture or decor to be a bit more fancy. I’ll come back just for the chili cheese kulcha.

Everything about this place was so good. The atmosphere and service were outstanding. The food is hard to describe, it was just so good. If you like Indian food, definitely give this place a try! The drinks were really good, I had the Pistachio Paradise and Hot n Gold. The paneer, so good, definitely the best I've had. The sweet potato chaat was so unbelievably good. The pork belly was nice, but the chaat was the must try here! The Butter Pao was a little disappointing, but I think I just had higher expectations seeing pictures.

By watching the episode on Netflix it inspired me to go across the pond and eat at this restaurant. Asma Khan and her team deserve more than five stars. To get where she is emotionally despite set back it shows her wisdom and how smart she is. Thank you for agreeing to be in the Chef's Table program. You're inspirational. I hope to eat at your place soon.💗💞👍

Over-hyped. The menu at my local Indian takeaway (which by coincidence is award-winning) is better. They said they were fully booked but when we arrived, the restaurant was two thirds empty. We didn't order after looking at the underwhelming menu and left.

Indian fine dining at its best!! Rooh has hit the Chicago food scene with a bang!! Modern and eclectic take to Indian cuisine. As soon as you walk in you have this beautiful mural of an Indian woman. Absolutely loved the work done by artist Jenny Vyas. The service, vibe, and decor was a solid 10/10!! The menu has a nice variety of vegetarian and meat based food. I recommend the avocado green chick pea bowl, jackfruit cutlet, chick pea kulcha, chili cheese kulcha, paneer pasanda, and lamb kabab. The jackfruit cutlet deserves a special mention for its outstanding taste. The spice level of each dish we ordered was perfect. The flavors were amazing without being overpowering. The chef did an excellent job of bringing out the flavors in each of the dishes. Our server was amazing too and made great recommendations on South Asian inspired cocktails and mocktails. We were celebrating a birthday and received complimentary desserts as well, milk cake with chocolate mousse. Go check out Rooh for a wonderful dining experience offering fantastic Indian cuisine.

My boyfriend and I go to one new restaurant every month. This month, for valentines day, instead of going to our favorite Italian place, we decided to "randomly" choose somewhere we had never been and risk it. It definitely paid off. This is one of the best restaurants we have ever been to. The environment is not your classic "expensive restaurant" environment, definitely has some character in the very best ways. Murals on the wall, colored plates, blue velvet-y seating etc. There was music playing, but not too loud and even when every table was seated, it was pretty quiet (people were too busy eating!). All of the drinks at the bar are made fresh - and the lemonade is definitely worth it (ask them to add some mint and you are set!). The mains we had were fantastic, we had the butter chicken and tandoori cauliflower. Amazing. We also had four sides and two desserts - and we got out under 100$ (before tip -That being said, my boyfriend and I don't drink so that definitely lowers costs at restaurants for us - and of course we tip 30% at least) To recap: we had some of the best food we ever had - two mains, FOUR sides, and two desserts for under 100$???? We will FOR SURE be back very soon I recommend this to anyone who likes good food for a GREAT date night environment!

This is a 3.5 star review. We had a good dinner and the star was the butter chicken, then the kulcha with shishito peppers. Everything else we had was ok. The space and ambiance is ok. Downstairs is nicer. We were sat upstairs which had little to no personality and a super loudly crying child who cried thru the whole meal. We got a headache as a side - for free! The cocktails are delicious, including the non- alcoholic ones. Service was lovely, informed, and prompt. The butter chicken is one of the best I have ever had - incredibly tasty. We split it since it is a very generous portion. Other items like lamb shank are not that large so beware or ask so you know how much food you would be getting. The menu is succinct, which is nice but main dishes are just a handful - they could have couple more items - we would have tried more.

ROOH was a fantastic experience and the best Indian food I believe in Chicago. Service was standard, quick, and accommodating. The food was delicious, and the best dish I believe was the Bengali Lamb Shank. Nice cocktails and in a busy neighborhood. Highly recommend this spot, and do the chef’s tasting menu which is 4 courses, $65 per person.

Located in the bustling Fulton Market neighborhood of Chicago, ROOH is a restaurant you do not want to miss. The ambiance is quiet with subdued lighting and earthy color choices contributing to the laid back vibe. The food is top tier, all three of our dishes came in rich, creamy sauces with herbs sprinkled on top. All three (Grilled Prawn, Butter Chicken, Paneer Pasanda) were some of the best dishes we had our whole trip and were excellently prepared. The cocktails were also exceptional and paired well with our meal. I would highly recommend checking out this spot, I know I will be back next time I am in town!

Made a reservation to celebrate our first year wedding anniversary. Food was excellent and did not disappoint…as expected. Creative delicacies. We enjoyed the food and the ambiance very much. The service at times was slow but we were happy to overlook it and really enjoy our experience here. Will recommend!

True 5/5! With unique and *innovative* flavor combinations that truly deliver, Rooh is well worthy of all the allure and praise. Layout (2 floors) is great for not only a happy hour drink/bite, but also a full meal for a group or two, with intimate booths as well. The Chili Cheese Kulcha is to-die-for, amazing texture and use of manchego is perfect. Do try the Butter Chicken with saffron rice. Almost in a class of their own are the cocktails, which are presented by intersecting the taste palette with chakras! Try the Fire, which smells like a chutney but switches to taste better (how!), and the Kumoan Cup (both pictured)! Service is stellar and they have vegan options as well!

The food is delicious. Service is not. Manager had no class, speaking loudly and curtly when dealing with the fact that after a long wait they realized our order was not prepared. Better training would teach them how to deal with these situations.

Was celebrating my Birthday. Had reservations for upstairs and the hostess wanted to seat us by the door 30 min later. Then finally seated us and then decided to open the window with 26 degrees outside. Drafty and undesirable place.

We ordered from Rooh as we heard a lot of good stories and they did not disappoint. The food was delicious and abundant. We ordered two “small plates” and one main course, with a side of naan and it looks like it will feed two for a couple of days. Every single dish tastes great, with the lamb keema hyderabadi being the absolute star. One word of warning, almost every dish is quite spicy, even the ones that don’t say so in the description on the menu. I thought it was absolutely fantastic, but I have a high tolerance for spice, so beware if you are not. You may want a side order of raita to cool things down a bit ;)

Food was super delicious, presented in a very creative manner, everything one there was very welcoming and friendly from start to end. STAFF were well informed about the entire menu and they made the eating of the food more favourable. And lastly....all the flavours one expects to be in the food, they indeed taste them in every bite of the food they have. Darjeeling Express is worth every time, money and visit you may make. So don't waste anymore time, just visit them you will not regret it. Bless

Two visits, the first time was great, food was fresh and delicious, service was great and the overall experience left me with the feeling that I want to go back there. Second visit was almost the opposite, food was cold, the falafels were dry, but I must say the atmosphere still felt great. I gave 4 stars because I feel that it might be just a bad day. Prices are a bit high for what you get. Great cocktails and staff.

Few months ago I made a reservation for 4 ppl for 8 of August. I invited friends - they are coming over from abroad. And I am so disappointed as I have just received an email with information that it's been cancelled due to the private event planned for that day. I'm sorry, but this is not how it should have been done. Given the capacity of the restaurant I wouldn't expect it's a problem to call everyone who booked on that day to say sorry and offer alternative day instead. Noone called to apologize, automatic email was send and I am left without a table. That's not how it should have been done! :( Replying - I feel betrayed as a customer, I don't understand why the booking on that day was available few month ago if it was already known that whole place is booked? It's not that easy to book the table for 4 and because of guests coming I was also limited to this. day Booking date proposal from you on 29th September doesn't work for us unfortunately and I was not offered any other alternative closer to the day I originally booked.. I'm not rating one star ever, but this is very unprofessional and upsetting. Maybe it will raise more attention to customer service which apparently is to be worked on.. :( I'm really disappointed and that's the reason of one star.

Highly recommend this restaurant. Exceptional food in a lovely welcoming atmosphere with an elegant touch to the décor. The staff is friendly and attentive without being over the top. The food was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The chef is obviously passionate about what he does, and it shows. This is quite possibly my favorite Indian restaurant in Chicago. Often you go to an Indian restaurant, and you get a lengthy menu to confuse you. At this restaurant, the menu is simple and short along with delicious craft cocktails. The servers are well trained explaining and recommending you the dishes. All accompanied with modern but neutral experience - you are bound to have a relaxing, fulfilling time. I loved the decor, food and the service at Rooh Chicago. I have been to the one in Columbus as well, and the decor is similar. It got really busy and loud here during lunch time especially the music here was also a bit loud. Other than that everything else was excellent. The service is pretty quick. Our server was very knowledgeable and knew the food well. The best thing on the menu was definitely the Jackfruit Cutlet. Absolutely delicious. Paneer Pasanda was well made. Overall a really good experience and food.

Overall very satisfied with our experience. Service was quick and our server was very attentive. Great spot for celebrating special occasions. We had the chef’s 4 course tasting menu. This is a great way to try multiple dishes. Course 1: Green pea kulcha was so good. Was not expecting goat cheese would go so well with the kulcha. Course 2: Grilled prawns and Chicken Kohzi - both the dishes were flavorful. Course 3: Butter chicken - delicious . Although the gravy was a bit sweet for my liking, the chicken was juicy and tender and tasted just like something you would get back home. They packed all the flavors really well. Bengali lamb shank - they have a great spin on the curry and the shank was tender. Course 4: Chocolate Rum Ball and Tutti Fruti Cassata - both the desserts were plated elegantly and had different elements/textures to it. Taste was phenomenal. Drinks: They have good drinks options. We tried the Sultan of Mandu and Hyderabad Tonic. Both were really good.

Visited Rooh for my birthday dinner while traveling. Kerala chicken- 5/5 Avocado Bhel- 4/5 Sea bass wrapped in a banana leaf -4/5 just because the sauce on the side didn’t go with it at all. We just ate the bass separately. It was more like the butter chicken gravy. Lamb shank- 3/5 for sauce was okayish and no spice at all. The service wasn’t good. I was still putting my food in takeaway boxes while one of the servers started cleaning the table. Didn’t like it at all!

Really beautiful and tasty modern Indian. We enjoyed a variety of dishes and chutneys. Their breads are great too. Drinks were really good. And I got dessert to go, which was a saffron cheesecake and was also wonderful. Fairly small menu though and weren't asked for spice level preferences, but really good overall.

I recently dined at Rooh Chicago, and I can confidently say it was an unforgettable experience that deserves a solid 5-star review! From the delectable food to the inviting ambiance, exceptional service, and perfect location, Rooh Chicago has it all. Let's start with the food. The culinary journey at Rooh is nothing short of exceptional. I kicked off my meal with the Pink City cocktail, which was a perfect blend of unique flavors and a great way to start the evening. The Chili Cheese Kulcha was a delightful appetizer that packed a flavorful punch, and the Sweet Potato Chaat was a wonderful explosion of textures and tastes. For the main course, the Bagara Baingan and the Bengali Lamb Shank truly stole the show. The Bagara Baingan was a flavorful vegetarian delight, while the Bengali Lamb Shank was fall-off-the-bone tender and rich in aromatic spices. These dishes showcased the diversity and depth of Indian cuisine. The saffron cheesecake for dessert was the perfect ending to an already outstanding meal. Its subtle saffron undertones and velvety texture left me craving more. The ambiance at Rooh is something to behold. The interior design is modern, yet it maintains a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant is beautifully lit, creating a warm and welcoming environment that's perfect for a romantic dinner or a get-together with friends. The vibe at Rooh is trendy and sophisticated, making it a great place for special occasions or just a memorable night out. It strikes the right balance between elegance and comfort, making you feel at ease from the moment you walk in. Service at Rooh Chicago is top-notch. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and extremely courteous. They guided us through the menu, making excellent recommendations and ensuring our dining experience was seamless and enjoyable. The location of Rooh Chicago is also a plus. Situated in the heart of the city, it's convenient and easy to access, making it an ideal spot for locals and visitors alike. In conclusion, Rooh Chicago is a gem in the city's culinary scene. The food is exceptional, the ambiance is delightful, the vibe is chic, the service is impeccable, and the location is prime. If you're looking for a memorable dining experience that combines the best of Indian cuisine and modern elegance, Rooh Chicago is the place to be. I can't wait to return and savor their incredible dishes once again!

Our family loves Indian food and we loved Rooh. I typically have low expectations for the style and furnishings of an Indian restaurant and Rooh exceeded. It's modern and clean and the service is nice. The place has a nice charm - a warm glow inside. There is a great level of energy and the music is pumping. We loved the food and the service exceeded expectations. We would not hesitate to return.

Amazing food and service! Our waiter was so friendly and helpful! We did the tasting menu with the wine pairings. Wine pairings were on point! The dishes were high class and I can't find a single fault. Extremely memorable experience I cannot recommend this enough! The appetizer course was different crackers and chutneys. The crackers were all made from different grains and really made each bite/mixture unique! Hard to select a favorite but the mango was unforgettable! The appetizers were great, we had lamb, chick peas, and chicken! Each person at our table had a different favorite and the flavors/textures were all different and great. Main course we had lamb, fish, and paneer. Here, the sauces were what we dreamed about the next day! So rich and full of flavor, textures perfection. Really couldn't go wrong with any. Dessert we got one of each. Chocolate with passion fruit is one of my favorite pairings. The fruits were delicious as well, although nothing stood out of that dish. It did compliment the meal without leaving me too full. Port was amazing with the chocolate. Definitely do wine pairings with the tasting menu, following recommended pairings and you won't go wrong! So excited to have this restaurant in our neighborhood and can't wait to enjoy their happy hour!

Nice place, went before a show and sat at the bar. Ordered scallops, lamb stew and cauliflower, all were small plates, plus two cocktails. Its pricey probably because it's new, but it is very good. Ordered another dish but staff failed to send to kitchen so we opted not to wait for it once discovered because our show was starting. Overall good experience and will return. The decor is pleasant and the staff is very nice too.

Had a really great meal here with friends a few weeks ago! Everything we had was quite good- the truffle cocktail was outstanding- I'd go back just for that. Nice quiet atmosphere, although I was there on a Sunday night. Dishes are small plates meant to be shared. Lots of vegetarian options that were very good. Overall, a really nice meal, good service and I would recommend.

The overall dining experience was good. The restaurant has a lot of hype in Chicago right now, so we had to try it out. They take a modern interpretation of all their dishes, as almost nothing looked or tasted like traditional Indian food. The playing was fantastic and the service was excellent. I didn’t love all the dishes, but I appreciate that they are trying to make their offerings more modern and progressive. Just be prepared that the prices are fairly high for the quantity of food that you’re going to get.

Delicious take on some classic and familiar Indian food. Beautiful restaurant space. Dining room had the right amount of noise to hear the conversation you were having. Craft cocktails. Most staff were helpful and friendly. Will return. Recommended

A bit on the expensive side and the patio seating was uncomfortable, but the food is great. The lamb shank and the lamb keema are both superb (the second is kind of a spicy lamb shepherd’s pie, delicious). As a side, the brussel sprouts are perfect. For drinks, I had the Malabar Old Fashioned, very good

The food was good and the staff, music and environment was amazing. We went with a young child and they were quick with service and let us know what had certain allergies as my family has some food sensitivities. The chutney were great and so was the butter chicken.

I went to this pace on NYE. What a nice experience, it was what I needed to start off my night. Not only did they have a nice photo booth, gotta do that every once in a while, but the drinks were superb at a reasonable price. The one thing I did like is that it changed as the night progressed. So 1/2 of the drinks were different than when I got there. That was nice to try some other speak easy drinks. A sure spot to visit!

I wish, I order more hamburger from this place or I should add more patties..... Well.. I want to go back and get some more food but I will wait till tomorrow. You can choose online order pick up , cash only and credit card to order food from this place. It's very smart, time efficient and convenient way to order food.

Our first dinner out since March and we definitely picked the right place! It was our first time dining here, and the food was perfection. The chutney starter and Brussels sprouts were shared and devoured. I had the butter chicken and my husband had the sea bass. Both were delicious with the most comforting spices. We ended with the saffron ice cream which was amazing. Our server was very attentive and easy to talk to. I can't wait to go back!

I think this is my first restaurant to hit after the pandemic shut everything down. Got to say hands down was definitely worth the travel. The food was packaged perfectly so nothing spilled and it kept its flavor all the way till we got home! I'll definitely be coming back again for more!

ROOH had been on my list to eat at but unfortunately I was not able to dine there in person before shelter in place was instituted. Well, I am SO glad they opened up for takeout. Their takeout meal deals are a great deal which comes with an entree, rice, naan, and a dessert. I did the chicken qorma meal and supplemented it with the masala chicken. As soon as I opened the box with chicken, the aroma immediately hit my nose and I knew they were going to be amazing. I was not disappointed. Right amount of kick and cool to have wings with those spices. The chicken qorma was also AMAZING! The sauce was so rich. I was full and wanted to keep eating because the sauce was just that good. I live in Lakeview and it was totally worth the drive to pick this up in the West Loop. I am already planning the next time I go. Incredible food! Highly recommend this place and can't wait to dine there when this all passes.

We have dined at Rooh before. This review is for our experience with their carry out Anniversary Special dinner kit. The small plate items were not only unique but beautifully accompanied with sublime sauces. The jackfruit cutlet was our favorite. Complex flavors by itself accentuated by the mustard cream sauce and complemented with the cilantro chilli sauce. Heavenly! The fish grilled in a banana leaf reminded me of festive occasions in India. Here the flavors were subtle - that is until you taste the accompanying coconut based curry sauce. Then the flavors are explosive! You need the peas pulao rice to provide the counterpoint. We were too full to have dessert - so those observatios will have to wait for another day. But if it is half as good as the rest - it will be amazing! All in all - a feast worthy of a special occasion. Anywhere, anytime. Congratulations Chef Sarkar and Happy Anniversary Rooh Chicago!!

It was our first time at Rooh for a private room dinner party and I must say it was a greatttt experience. We basically ordered ALL the vegetarian options they had available and it was a finger licking good. We had a feast, their cocktails were pretty cool including the cocktail menu. The food had an authentic Indian taste and I'd give them full marks on presentation. If you're in Chicago and craving for Indian delicacies, this restaurant will not disappoint you.

Note: I'd definitely recommend reservations - easy to do through OpenTable, obvs. I made reservations, admittedly, probably a little prematurely and earlier than necessary for a valentine's day dinner, since I was worried that people would remember all at once that this socially constructed day of romance fell on a Friday this year and it'd be massively hard to find a reservation...so 6 weeks prior to V-day, we were booked. That may have been unnecessary, but was glad to have secured a spot for us. Despite having a reservation for weeks, when we got there, they tried to pawn us off to their bar upstairs - which might have been fine (and they didn't have a table ready for us yet), but I don't know... as much as eating at a bar is fine sometimes, it does compromise the viewing angle and I usually end up with a crick in my neck, so thanks, but no thanks for a dinner. We grabbed a drink upstairs, and I was able to guess which one it was (date had ordered from the wheel of taste attributes) and it was a dynamic and tasty libation. Service was helpful, courteous, and helped us navigate the menu, though we were pretty sure we knew what we wanted and didn't mind the sequence in which the food came out (e.g. bring whatever is ready first out, we're hungry brah) though I'm sure some patrons are more particular. For dinner, for which we were seated at a table downstairs (though pretty close to the front doors, so I ended up leaving my jacket on, because hello coldest V-day in 77 years :-/) and decided to share: beetroot murabba tuna bhel gunpowder scallop one of the fancy naans, and a duck and apricot puffed dough treat which was topped with cheese and spices. All of it was delicious. The standout for me was the beetroot murabba - there were julienne beets inside a crispy beet fritter case - the sweet earthiness from the beets paired beautifully with the light and creamy cheese components in particular, but really the entire dish was fantabulous. We split another drink I think at some point in the evening. Bill for 2 with a drink or 2 and I think 5 shared plates was $120.

Recently I had an excellent experience at Rooh. The restaurant has a friendly and safe outdoor tent with continually circulating air. The chairs are made of metal and a bit cold, but a little blanket can help. Every dish was delicious and very flavorful. The bread was soft like a cloud and melting in the mouth. That was the first time when I have tried a butter chicken, and this dish met all my expectations, very delicious. The potato souffle was a very light and creamy texture. The drinks were tasty as well. I will be coming back soon to sample the rest of their menu.

Wow what an amazing place. First of all I am so goad that after thid whole covid fiasco , indoor dining is finally open. Rooh was on our list from long time and finally we got a reservation. Multi storied, din light, chic and unique interiors and I must say this place is very hip. Started with small plates and drinks, everything was on point. It is definitely an experience. Chicken dish was appropriately cooked and i loved the smoky flavors and curry taste. As i said place is vety hip and so is their menu, drinks are refreshing and really good. Presentation, service was also decent i would say 9/10. Overall very nice worth the visit and oh yes its pricey!

We ate in the hexadome (all bundled up of course) and it was such a delightful experience. The service was lovely, the actual dishware was beautiful, the flavors were so incredible. Hot cocktails were a great touch for the cold season. My only regret is I was too full to order dessert!

I took my boyfriend here on a Friday night after our reservations at Sepia were canceled super last minute. Honestly, I have such a soft spot for South Asian upscale dining because it’s a sparsely saturated market in the US, especially in Chicago. Overall, Rooh was an incredible meal but had some key downfalls: slow, less than attentive service that didn’t describe dishes as they arrived, slightly awkward seating, and a few main entrees that didn’t blow us out of the park. We also had to have our wine pairings sent out all at once due to the new city ordinance on serving alcohol - so if you’re planning on ordering from the prix fixe menu you should plan to arrive around 6:30.

  • 5/5 Nicholas B. 3 years ago on Google
We ordered the Christmas feast carry-out meal from Rooh and we enjoyed what was perhaps one of the most enjoyable Christmas meals we've had as a family. The food was outstanding - flavorful without the accompanying sauces for our children to enjoy (they nor I like must much spice) but with plenty of delicious gravies for my wife to use. The restaurant crafted an outstanding meal. We will most certainly be back well before Christmas 2021.

I was VERY skeptical of this restaurant as fine dining indian/pakistani are usually a huge fail. However, I was pleasantly satisfied and surprised. Rooh took classic homemade dishes and elevated them beyond a sophisticated level. From the nihari to keema to chicken makhni, each dish ransacked the taste buds to point of no return.

  • 4/5 Apoorv U. 3 years ago on Google
Nice place, nice ambience. Very courteous staff. Now lets talk about food. The menu has limited items which keeps things simple easy for the diners. Couple of items stood out and were very pleasing to our taste buds while some felt like nothing out of the ordinary and monotonous. The Green Pea Kulcha, Ghee roast chicken and the butter chicken were delightfully good and very well flavored. Chicken was in both the dishes was perfectly cooked, well seasoned and felt refreshing. Green Pea Kulcha with truffle and goat cheese added sounded like a weird combination, however, each element complemented each other and was just delicious. The Paneer Pinwheel looked pleasing to the eye but not to our taste buds. The curry was very similar to butter chicken so maybe ordering both at the same time could have been the let down factor for us. The curry could use with some more spice or a different gravy altogether. For dessert we order both Warm Chocolate Mousse and the Carrot Halwa Trifle. While the chocolate mousse felt like the perfect way to conclude the Main Course, the trifle lacked flavor. The mascarpone cream in the trifle was the only element that felt good to eat. The saffron ice cream didn’t complement the trifle and and felt out of place. I would instead combine it with Rabdi ice cream or something in that direction. Overall, the experience was good and I would definitely visit again to try on other items on the menu.

Rooh's New Year's Eve dinner was excellent. Haleem is one of my favorite dishes (rarely found on Indian restaurant menus) and the duck haleem was superb. Morels in cream sauce would do a three star Michelin chef proud. The addition of berries to the pulao added a new dimension to this standard dish, and the coconut halwa and filter coffee cake ended the meal on a high note.

Fantastic food and drink. Was definitely wowed. Butter Chicken curry is spot on with roti—loved it the most. Portion was big, service was ok, and the vibe (outdoor sitting) is relaxing in summer breeze. One down side: they use not-so-fresh frozen chicken for their Butter Chicken, which claimed by the server to be their signature dish. The meat has already lost the flexibility and taste almost sandy like. But overall satisfied with the taste and price.

I won't be coming back as customer service is not great, especially for such pricey Indian food with small portions. The Chai Tea was watered down compared to the first time I tried it. While the food is good but portions are small and the staff is rather mean. On a recent super cold evening, my friend stopped by for some takeaway. We were deciding what to order and I only had cash so had to count money. The staff were impatient with us and asked us to hurry up and also wanted us to wait outside in the cold for our food because of the pandemic, even though there were no other customers. I felt rushed and pressured and thrown in the cold for some expensive Indian food. I prefer to go where I am treated better..

I can wholeheartedly say that the Chicken Kathi roll at Darjeeling Express was the best I have EVER had. Bar none. I washed it down with a deliciously spiced masala chai, which was perfect for a cold winter's day. I'm heart-broken that due to Covid we're not able to dine-in at their new Covent Garden restaurant. I'd visited their Carnaby Street one on several occasions and found the food as warm and welcoming as the atmosphere and staff. If the takeaway is anything to go on, we're in for an absolute treat when lockdown is lifted.

Located on the third floor of Kingly Court, Darjeeling Express offers a cozy and tucked away not so secret indian restaurant. Best advised to book in advance but on weeknights you can walk in at opening time provided you are a couple. Good lighting and ambiance, plenty of fresh trailing plants to create mood. Most of the lights are a soft spheres that arent too harsh. Tables are pretty packed so go early rather than late, on a week night. Good cultural music that isnt too loud, water is offered on the table as well as a menu range of Indian non alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. The Sula wine is good! They also offer cocktails, lassis, thums up, etc. Wine is by the glass or by the bottle. The starter has a sweet tamarind dipping sauce whereas the look like the indian answer to chicken poppers (without the meat). The exterior is crunchy with red onions , the inside is soft and mild but not doughy. The green chili sauce that comes with the starter is extremely fiery and hot. The starter on it's own is dry but with the sauce it is good and pairs well. This starter reminds me of the crispy fried onions you get on sushi The brown rice is extremely fresh and well cooked and has wild rice mixed in. Puris extremely nice, not undercooked! Paneer curry not too spicy and very creamy. Also not too oily or fatty.

I finally managed to go there. As many, I came to know that place by watching Netflix documentary. Went here for lunch on Friday. Place was full but not packed. Casual vibes and nice opened kitchen Food wise we had : Starters Puchkas: quite nice and extremely light Beetroot chop: could be considered as spicy but good for my taste. Like the dipping sauce. Main: Prawns Malakari: probably my favourite dish. Liked the finest of this dish. Perfectly seasoned with the right amount of coconut flavour. Side: Mirchi Ka Salaan: if you don’t like spicy don’t go for that one. It’s well done dish. Nothing outstanding Puris: very fluffy and hot. Nice ! Overall experience is great. Like the place and the way the dishes are served. Thumbs up to the cooks as the dishes are very fine and light but high in flavours. From my point of view I could argue on the price range and could easily see the same at slight lower price but I understand the reputation and location. Would come back to try other dishes !

We were looking forward to our reservation here for a few months! We had a delicious lunch and absolutely loved the vegan options - I ended up trying a few things I’d never had before which was great. The zucchini fritters dipping sauces were a great shared starter- I highly recommend the Kala Channa (black chickpeas) they were DELICIOUS. It’s a very busy restaurant but service was super quick - I loved the all female staffed kitchen. It took us a minute to find the restaurant but it’s located on the top floor in a food/bar courtyard - with lots of options for spots to hang out.

Modern Asian fusion cuisine. Very tasty, it's a whole evening out. The service is attentive and the staff are lovely. A very nice experience. I wouldn't say it was suitable for young children however. It's pretty cosy and very adult too.

(Translated by Google) Highly Recommended. There are few places for walk-in customers. Here you have to be lucky or just in time for opening. (Original) Absolut empfehlenswert. Es gibt wenige Plätze für Laufkundschaft. Hier muss man allerdings pünktlich zur Öffnung da sein odee Glück haben.

The dinning experience is always better when the server knows everything about the dishes. Our server even suggested the not-so-sweet Moscow mule cocktail for me to go with the spicy food. ( I’m not in a mood to drink wine that night.) It surprisingly paired so well. The pork belly is divine, the butter chicken is a crowd pleaser …we love hot sauce so our server brought us the most spicy mango chutney to jazz up the dish even more. We family ordered abundant food and enjoyed every dish that night. We

The jackfruit kebab was simply amazing! Very well cooked and very tasty. I also loved Sea bass grilled in Banana leaf and Malabar coconut curry was the best I’ve had in Chicago. The taste was something to remember.

Touched my Rooh (soul).. It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed the soulful, scrumptious and innovative cuisine. Flew all the way from Boston just to enjoy this innovative cuisine and amazing service. Loved it!!! It was a fun journey. Jack fruit cutlet and sea bass was my favorite.. Thanks to the friend who recommended this place, will return soon to enjoy the winter menu. Kudos to the team, keep shining.. thanks

The food is very unique and the flavors are amazing. Jackfruit cutlet was really good and we really liked all the drinks. The waiters knew everything about the menus and were really attentive. The portion sizes were good and the outdoor seating is nice as well.

Great food and ambience. Had an amazing dinner with family. The green pea kulcha and rose thandai ice cream were absolutely the best.

Great ambience! Delicious authentic Indian food. That garlic naan was wonderful. Enjoyed dipping it in my butter chicken and the best cauliflower dish I've ever had. Happy hour drinks and bites were also on point.

The outdoor dining was really lovely under the tent. The staff was so nice, and they seemed very busy. I got the chili cheese kulcha & haven’t stopped thinking about it. The butter chicken was the best butter chicken I’ve ever had. The pork belly was a little chewy but still good. The drinks were delicious!! And the desert was the perfect amount of sweet.

Celebrated my birthday here and it was perfect! The food and drinks were delicious. The waiter gave fantastic recommendations (sweet potato chaat, pork belly, chocolate rum ball). Everything was terrific and made for an excellent and unique celebratory meal!

Great Indian food with a great outdoor vibe. Greeted us like family as soon as we arrived. Come for quick bite and a drink or a full family meal.

Fantastic dinner! Every dish had a great depth of flavor, and slow building heat added to it with every bite, but never felt overwhelming or underseasoned. My one gripe is I wish the serving of naan was a little larger: it was fresh, warm, buttery and... Not enough. Butter chicken is the crowd pleaser but don't overlook the avocado and chickpea bhel or the Andhra chicken pepper fry! Cooked to perfection!

Simply delicious! What an interesting spin on the traditional Indian food. We definitely plan on spreading the word and grabbing more friends to join us so we can order more delicious items from the menu. Everything looked so good and we had a tough time deciding—finally chose the tandoor smoked pork belly (so flavorful), the sweet potato chaat (perfect blend of crunch from the kale tempura, the sweet and sourness from the yogurt mousse, and the spice-topped sweet potatoes), and the sea bass. We were pleasantly surprised by how tender and full of delicate flavor the sea bass was. We were originally going to order the lamb shank, but decided to try the sea bass thanks to the advice of our waitress! Service is also great, people were very attentive and my water glass was never left empty. We are definitely adding this place to our list of favs in Chicago!

This is a late review, but better late than never!? Been to Rooh two months ago and the food was delicious! Fascinating names and amazing medley of ingredients — brought back tons of memories from our childhood. Kudos to the chef.

I have to give a shout out to Rooh for creating such a great experience for us. It was the little things that made the difference, from accommodating our request to switch tables to the well wishes and surprise treat at the end for anniversary. The food was excellent, and full of flavor. The atmosphere was relaxed, and our server was knowledgeable. Definitely a great night all around, here.

A very nice ambiance for an after work drink and light dinner. One of the very first things I noticed when I entered was the stunning atmosphere. The Rooh has perfectly dimmed lighting with a nice, comfortable chair arrangement at the bar. We tried two different cocktails, "the Himalayan sunset, sultan of mandu, old fashion, and shimla retreat," all of which had their unique flavor pallet. For food, we decided to try chicken pepper fry and the tandoor smoked pork belly. The food was cooked to perfection as everything was really flavorful and delicious. I would definitely eat here again.

Great place for date night. My wife and I loved their food and drinks. The service was good and the staff was friendly. They do not have too many options but whatever is on their menu is tasty and flavourful. We tried jackfruit cutlet, chicken pepper fry, paneer pasanda and stuffed chili kulcha and cassata, chocolate rum ball for dessert. Chicken pepper fry could have been better but definitely coming back to try their happy hour menu!

Wow. What a take on indian cuisine. The food was spectacular. The bean side pictured here reminded me of home cooked food. The cocktails were great too. I do wish they had a few more spirit options. But definitely a must try restaurant.

We had a reservation for 2 people and went to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The restaurant ambience was pleasant and welcoming. We started with pink city mocktail and lost hara cocktail drinks, they were good. We ordered avocado chickpea bhel, jackfruit cutlet and Sea Bass wrapped in banana leaf with saffron rice. The food was delicious, flavors were spot on and balanced. The fish was cooked well and sauce combination was great. We were so full that we didn’t order dessert. The waitress was cool and she got mango sorbet with birthday candle. Definitely will visit again to try others in the menu. Highly recommend if you want to try Indian cuisine with flavors.

Unfortunately, there are very few Indian restaurants in Chicago. However, this one, Rooh, is a good one. It’s located in the trendy West Loop neighborhood and delivers just like the popular and high end restaurants in the area. First, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. My waiter was knowledgeable about the food that I ordered and was able to give me information that made my meal more enjoyable. Second, the food is awesome. I ordered the avocado & chickpea bhel, Bengali lamb shank and whole sea bass plate. The avocado & chickpea bhel was flavored and textured well. It was a great start to my meal. The Bengali lamb shank was delicious and tender. The meat was basically falling off the bone. The sauce that come with was yummy and not too spicy. I also enjoyed the whole sea bass plate. Like the lamb shank, it was very tender. Third the atmosphere is cool. I enjoyed the interior with it gray decor and cool mural. If you like Indian food or just want to try a new place, this is a must visit.

Very tasty Indian food in a nice environment with great service! Really liked all the items we tried: - Chili cheese kulcha. One of the most popular items. The kulcha was so fluffy and the chili cheese seasoning was so perfect. - Sweet potato chaat. An interesting item that definitely was worthy of a try. - Butter chicken. Another must-have item. Relished the rich, complex, subtle flavor of the curry. Go for it. Hope will come back some time and try more ;)

We had the best date night experience at ROOH! The atmosphere was so intimate and comfortable. They had incredibly intricate cocktails & delicious, heartwarming food. The service was incredible. I can't wait to go back!

Phenomenal food, SO glad I was staying close by and stumbled upon this place. Staff were all fab, and the sweet potato chaat was one of the best dishes I’ve ever eaten, anywhere, of any type of food. Will definitely be back next time I’m in town!

EVERYTHING was absolutely excellent. Fresh flavorful food, perfect portions. The cocktails were amazing. Our waiter was certain to give good recommendations. Perfect date night ambiance. We'll be back for sure. THANK YOU Rooh, Chicago! Sheer Excellence.

Such a cool place!! The food here is super innovative and has amazing flavor combinations. Coming from Chicago it was super affordable and definitely worth visiting (even on a short trip to Columbus)! The ambience is lovely and I love the regal theme with the gold/deep blue decor. My cocktail was delicious (I got the Mango Mule) and I may have even liked what my friend got (Saunf Sour) even better! We ordered the sampler, the sweet potato chaat, the cauliflower koliwada, lamb keema hyderabadi, the Amritsari shrimp and some naan! Weren’t hungry enough for any of the large plates this time but definitely gotta try them when we come back! Don’t skip: the cauliflower, the shrimp!

Nice family time here with great food and service. We ordered the fish in banana leaf and butter chicken. Avocado bhel and sweet potato chat were delicious. Meal ended with Saffron cheesecake which had different textures and main cheesecake was airy and had nice hint of saffron.

For a fusion upscale Indian food experience, this place is great. The ambience, space, color palates, all creates a sophisticated, yet laid back Indian vibe. Service was really nice as well. The Menu is limited, and not a typical Indian restaurant menu. However, the items are pretty unique, barring couple of standard items like Butter chicken and Naan. Not so great Part: While drinks are designed to align with basic taste flavors, infusing ayurvedic and herbal ingredients, honestly it was just "Meh". It was either just plain sweet or sour, masking all other subtle flavors or smells. Small plates are unique and creative, but lacked taste complexity or finesse in texture. Avacado Bhel, is more sour tasting than balanced tangy, and Potato Mousse on Lamb Keema is a complete misfit. I would've also preferred Jackfruit cutlet to have a shredded texture, as opposed to mashed inside. However, all of them were pretty tasty in its own unique way. Amazing: The Stars of the food is definitely entrees, especially Sea Bass. Fish is cooked beautifully, and the Malabar Sauce is mind blowing, flavor packet and amazing consistency. Being an expert on the ingredients that goes into this sauce, I can say for sure, getting to this consistency is great work. Butter chicken is different and nice as well. Most Indian places use chicken breast cubes for butter chicken, but a better way is to use grilled thighs, and they are spot on with that. One thing to note is, most dishes are mildly spicy (2/5 level) and you cant bring it down. Deserts are very unique and fantastic too. Great way to top off your experience. Overall, really unique Indian place to spent an experience with family or friends group.

Food was great, no doubt. Although overly priced for most items. The servers were polite and polished, loved their service. Few issues though - 1. Service was slow. We had to wait 20+ minutes for the dessert. Long waiting time for some other main courses too. 2. Wanted to split the bill amongst everyone, but they said they have a restriction of 4 cards per table. Now come on, a very regular restaurant does it quite easily, how does this become a policy for you! Overall, good for spending a nice evening. Can get busy, so better to reserve a table early.

@roohchicago is a nice fine Indian restaurant with lots of vegetarians but not so many Jain options. However, I was surprised by how good their cheese chili kulcha were and can only imagine why it's one of two Indian restaurants mentioned in @michelinguide of Chicago!! The kulcha was filling cheesy and with the right amount of spicy!! For my non Jain folks, don't miss out on melt in mouth paneer Pasanda.. Missus absolutely loved it.. the curry was creamy and paneer was as fresh as you could get! Their mocktails options were good too!! Recommend the narangi one :) All in all don't go here for a full meal but just to try out kulcha and you won't be disappointed!! Let me know how you like this place or if I should have tried any other Indian restaurant in Chicago for my next travel!! #roohchicago #chicago #jainfoodchicago #jainfoodiechicago #cheese #cheesechilikulcha #jainfoodie #thejainfoodranger #indianrestaurantchicago

The vibe is very nice. A bustling atmosphere with many groups of 3+ people enjoying each other company. I loved how the Chi was brought out in this tea set which was a delight to look at and kept the temp well and was not overly sweet. I was let down by the nan, felt store bought which was disappointing. The lamb was ok, so was the sweet potato chat which didn’t seem like the chickpeas were seasoned. Go for the vibe and the drinks but maybe not the food.

Food: came for restaurant week and will say the food was very good, especially the butter chicken. My favorite was the pork belly but it didn’t really taste Indian. Service: service was pretty quick and pleasant. Atmosphere: atmosphere was pleasant but nothing super memorable. Hearing electronic music playing was an interesting touch.
