If you’re looking for authentic Indian food with real Indian taste this isn’t the place for you. Ambience wise it’s pretty good but when it comes to actual food it’s sub-par especially compared to the price they charge for the food. I went in with my family for lunch and ordered paneer-mussalam that came with a side of rice and along with that we ordered garlic naan and veg-biryani. Firstly they took 15 mins to take the order and then more than 40 mins to serve the order. The paneer tasted like rubber and the taste of the gravy was bad, they just added too much cream in it. The rice side appeared to be side of another side dish. The naan was the size of a puri and came cold when it reached our table. On top of that we ordered additional dishes as running order which didn’t arrive for half an hour so we had to cancel it as our appetite was done. Overall if you’re looking to enjoy good Indian food this isn’t the place but if you’re looking for a fancy Indian restaurant with an expensive menu then sure give it a try.

This might have literally been the best meal I've ever had. The food was absolutely amazing, as was the service. Everything was just lovely. Thank you for a wonderful meal and a fantastic time!

Rasika has wonderful modern Indian cuisine. The restaurant focuses on Punjabi dishes and the food was fresh, made to order. My only issue was the service! The server was rushing us to leave the restaurant so they could get another table. It was a business lunch and the server brought the check as soon as we finished eating. They didn’t ask if we wanted anything further, we did! So we had to ask for them to bring the dessert menu. I am disappointed in the service here. Not sure if I will be back because of the way I was rushed through the meal and hurried out the door!

I love Indian food and absolutely hate writing bad reviews for this chain of restaurants. The food was very bland and WAY OVERPRICED for the very small portions you get. I was asking for advice over the phone and felt like he strayed me away from what made sense. As someone who has been to both northern and southern India and eats a lot of Indian food here, I'm very familiar with how it should taste. We also ordered over the phone and he significant underestimated how much our bill "would" be. The pick up process was very unusual and seemed like something they'd never done before as they asked me for credit card without even showing me the bill first.

I was visiting DC and so many people recommended this restaurant as a must try. It was a little hard to get a reservation when I navigated their site but luckily on my last night in DC, a friend called them and we were able to get a table. This food is by far one of the best Indian foods I have had (besides in India). Their food was actually spicy and so flavorful. I highly recommend trying their paneer. It was my favorite appetizer there.

The ambience of the place was modern and comfortable. I reserved the day before for a dinner time slot. The waiter was attentive and he often was available when I was about to call for him. The Palak Chaat was delicious. It was bountiful, flavorful, and not heavy. We moved onto the Beetroot Goat Cheese and found it not that great. The Beetroot was the majority of the flavor with a very slight hint of goat cheese flavor. I found that very underwhelming. The next was the truffle dosa. It was average since even a normal size dosa would be almost double this size. I barely tasted the truffle and mostly only tasted the potato filling inside. The main star of the show was definitely the Halibut Kerala Curry. This was almost close to as good as how my girlfriends mom makes her Kerala curry with fish. We were both stunned. The dessert was another amazing experience. I loved the warm black rice with the cardamom flavored ice cream. The silver was unnecessary though, lol. The food was overall alright but with a strong finish with this entree and dessert, I will be back to try more in the future.

Went to this establishment for a dinner with friends from work. my first time in D.C. The food and atmosphere were great. Everything tasted fresh. Service was friendly and accommodating. I would definitely come back and try another dish. Only reason I can't give 5 stars is the drinks were not the best.

Great food and they made accomodations for me as a vegan. I was dining here with a reservation group of 10 people, and I was the only vegan. When we were being seated, they asked if there were any dietary restrictions, so during each meal course they would bring a modified version without the yogurt or dairy additives for me, and they brought out house made sorbet for me for dessert. Highly recommend.

Amazing experience. We celebrated our wedding anniversary here. The staff was welcoming and lovely. We didn’t realize it was restaurant week (therefore limited menu), the chef was able to accommodate us to trying foods from the main menu. All the food was thought out very well & very tasty! Would highly recommend this beautiful, wholesome experience!

If ur looking for authentic Indian food please don’t go here! It’s absolute waste of time and money! Raw tasting curries, over priced (eg : $14 for that tiny prawns and nothing about it was Indian other than the mint chutney that didn’t go well with the prawn! ) absolute disappointment!!! However service was good with nice ambiance. Mango mousse with Rasgula was nice but there was more mousse than rasgula.

Incredible dining experience. Ambiance is really unique. The food was such a pleasure to eat. We weren't totally sure what to expect from each dish we ordered (aside from the garlic naan - always a must), and we were disappointed in none of it. Perfect portions that leave you feeling satisfied without feeling as though you overindulged, and good for sharing. Great teamwork from the serving team. I think the only time my water glass dipped below half full was when it was actively in my hand (and was filled almost immediately upon its return to the table). Our primary server was Lauren, who, though new to the staff, was quite knowledgeable regarding having menu recommendations, and she was so genial and efficient. We will definitely be making an effort to return to Rasika.

The food was freshly made; very tasty. The restaurant itself is really clean/neat. I would recommend going to this restaurant for small family events, takeouts, for anything. Depending on where you are, for me, it is ALL worth the 45 minute drive!

You much book here in order to get a table at a reasonable time. Book like 6 weeks in advance They have a decent menu but expect to pay DC pricing. Food was ok. Service was great and the staff were too.

This is the second time I visit this restaurant. The food is pretty good overall. The crispy spinach and the fried cauliflower are amazing though the latter a little greasy. The naan very tasty and fluffy, the chicken Adhra wonderfully balanced with spicyness. I thought the papadoms were very average and the masala crabcake even more so. Not crispy at all in the outside and guey on the inside. I enjoyed all ice cream flavors and the saffron rice pudding. A note on the service. We sat at the bar. It is not uncommon in restaurants with simpler or everyday service style to be asked to keep your cutlery while you get fresh plates through courses. However, I wouldn't expect tnis in a restaurant of this level. Even more so It is definitely not expected nor it is simply polite for the bartender-server to tip over the dirty plate in order to empty used cutlery on your sousplat so that you can keep using them. What an unhospitable service that is. I get why this is a popular DC restaurant and even though I don't disagree on this status I think some details should be better attended.

Absolutely amazing! I came here for lunch after my graduation and had a wonderful meal. We chose the tasting menu, which our waitress suggested, and loved everything about it. The flavors are traditional yet surprising and the food is not too spicy. The service was is impeccable as well. You do have to make a reservation in order to eat here, and you better make one 2-3 months in advance for dinner!

Rasika masterfully prepares savory recipes using top quality ingredients wonderfully spicy that are a flavor jamboree. Earth tone furnishings are stylishly comfortable in low lit space matching service that is warm and flawless. If you‘re dining here with a close friend you will forget about the challenging circumstance we are in. Rasika is that good, in my opinion and experience.

We were sitting in the indoor dining space and the food was good and service was really nice . We wished there were more efforts put in the presentation and the sides . All the appetizers were served with a green chutney and a slice of lime. But brownie points for serving us gulab jamun and ice cream with a candle on top of it to celebrate my fiancé’s birthday. Overall a nice experience for us and the birthday girl!

Ok place. High end classy atmosphere, good drink too. Just didn’t like the over all service and food as per standards. The curry were little bland and felt like the waiter was rude or not interested in serving us. Went solely because of recommendation but was not satisfied. Probably better at some other location.

Service- was not great. The waiter was very impatient We got 3 entrees + side dish and they gave us a tiny bowl of rice, which I found to be very cheap. The food was ok. We shared - - Chicken Tikka Masala Onion / tomato / fenugreek powder - Chickpeas Kichadi Carrots / Sweet Potato / basmati rice / ginger / green chilies / Date Raita - butter chicken And side of Dal Dhungaree Smoked lentils / garlic / tomatoes Dessert- The pistachio one was bad. The mango mousse was ok. Probably won’t go back again .

Sat at the bar and ordered a bunch of appetizers and drinks. The fried cauliflower dipped in the tiki marsla sauce was amazing and the crispy spinach was some new and delightful. What stole the show was the rice pudding made with black rice.... it was by far the best rice pudding I have ever had!

Rasika is a high end Indian restaurant in the heart of NW Washington DC. It is also popular with the movers and shakers of country and boasts an impressive “whos who” among its clientele. The restaurant has patio seating for when the weather is warm. Inside there is a bar where you order drinks and also eat if you so desire. The ambience of the restaurant inside is subdued and sober. A sharp contrast to the typical chatter in restaurants. Maybe too many secrets being shared! But the environment rubbed on us and we found ourselves talking in hushed conspiratorial tones about our commute! Their Palaka chat was awesome. Deep fried spinach leaves smothered in yogurt, tamarind chutney and a sprinkle of diced tomatoes. I loved it! We ordered their paneer musallam, something of a speciality. It’s paneer (cottage cheese) stuffed with nuts (I think cashew, walnuts) smothered is tomato, yogurt, cream gravy. Very rich and heavy. A little bland for my palate but I guess they have adapted it to suit the western tastes. The paneer comes with a piece of edible silver foil, which is not uncommon in India (especially for sweets) but not common in America. Our waiter reminded us a couple of times that it is silver and safe to eat. I am guessing they had guests scrapping it away as aluminum foil. These things tend to be expensive. We also ordered their baigan bharta. A innocuous looking dish that is actually not easy to make. The eggplants are first roasted over charcoal braziers till they are slightly charred and imbibe a smoky aroma. They are then peeled, mashed and cooked in a assortment of spices. The result is a delectable blend of tastes and aromas best eaten with Naan (which is what we did). Enjoyed the dish tremendously! The prices are not for the faint hearted but worth the experience!

==Context== Went here for a conference dinner as part of a part of around 25 people. Venue and good all chosen by the organisers. ==Positives== Excellent food. Good atmosphere. ==Negatives== Felt cramped. Waiting staff didn't seem to understand any of my questions. The gastric pain suggested the food was ghee-heavy.

We arrived to a nearly empty restaurant with high hopes of havin a nice 5 party reception for a small wedding. They first told us we could not sit at any of the empty tables outside..Upon asking the reason for this ultimatum we were told at 424p there was a party of 200 arriving at 4. After a little back and forth for 5 seats they finally sat us with many rude remarks from the FOH manager including, 'we need our table back at 6' . We were sat at a table that we seen occupied by another couple and not wiped down.. we had to ask them to sanitize it during this pandemic. We then proceeded to order with a very inattentive server who did not check back with us. We had to ask a busser to find our waiter to fix a few issues with the order he had delivered. The food was hit or miss. Overall they are not accommodating to paying patrons and not up to code in cleaning and resting for new guests...WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

Rasika is DC famous for a reason and it does not disappoint. Apart from the good being amazing (especially the Palak Chaat and the desserts), The staff is amazingly friendly, chatty and willing to help out and guide you to have the most authentic, best experience. I can’t stress it enough that it’s worth (at least) one visit. During COVID, the tables are placed outside (although they also have an inside lounge) and the staff is super careful at all times.

Great food, but if you’re ordering vegetarian entrees to go or for delivery beware that no rice is included. We should have looked more carefully, but for the price of the food it’s a little annoying to have a curry entree and an eggplant entree without a side of rice, or even the option to add it when we clicked on the entree option on the app. You have to order a specific side order of rice for vegetarian entrees. Several of the meat entrees have basmati rice included. Had to cook our own at home.

Great tasting food. Service was very attentive in terms of filling up water and being around to help us answer food fast and answer any questions. As others have said, the palak chaat is delicious and has a nice crispiness to it. The red snapper tasted great. The vegetable biryani almost feels like a pot pie. Only downside is restaurant felt a bit loud and tables too close together as others have mentioned.

Honestly, I was struggling to get authentic and tasty Indian food in DC. This restaurant is the best for Indian food in DC. The service is mind-blowing, chef himself comes to your table and makes sure everything okay. Please order tasting menu if you want to try all types of curries, starters and desserts. It is expensive but I would say worth trying. One of the best restaurants I have ever been to.

Had dinner here with my in-laws on a Tuesday. The only reservation available was for 5:30pm, which was a bit early but the food was well worth it. We started with the fried cauliflower and flash fried spinach dishes, which were both excellent. For mains, the lamb chops were cooked to a beautiful medium rare. I also really liked the paneer. The chocolate samosa and the rice pudding were my favorite desserts. Would definitely recommend this place.

Had great expectations from this place, rating it as one star because that’s the lowest. Our chicken tikka was raw, Avacado chaat was not how my friend described it to me when she had it, just putting tamarind chutney over ripe Avacados and banana is not chaat !!

Used to be our fav spot for years. Recently we ordered okras or Bhindi and it was not undercooked rather uncooked with the stick strands all over.. Biryani had large chunks of uncooked cauliflower.. when we called back to inform the manager he said we do it on purpose.. first time we have heard that excuse.. now either that was a bad cover up or he thought the other side does not know Indian food palate.. left us in splits . Lol. Just own up and move on.

Rasika's ambiance is becoming more of its allure than the food creations (also, nearly same cocktails for a half decade). We went for a family dinner celebration and while they still have some guaranteed hits like palak chaat and good biryani, Rasika has lost a step in both in new items and service, perhaps due to their high stature in DC. Only indoor dining during covid.

Probably my favorite restaurant in the city. I’ve eaten here countless times and each meal seems to be better than the last. While I think in-person dining at Rasika is an experience in itself, the takeout doesn’t disappoint. Every dish was steaming hot and just as flavorful and delicious as you’d get in the restaurant. Definitely get the palak chaat and the chicken ticka masala.

  • 5/5 Jessica M. 3 years ago on Google
Very delicious and satisfying food with a BUNCH of flavor and spice (flavor spice and spice spice)! Good portions with fresh ingredients cooked right. We got takeout during restaurant week and halibut curry was especially delicious. The wide variety of interesting dishes makes this a place definitely worth returning to. They also have gluten free and allergen menus to help with tough decision-making! Most of their food is gluten free or can be modified to be so; I didn’t feel like I was missing out at all!

This is clearly one of the best place in the region. Whenever I visit this place I am extremely pleased. They maintain their high level service and the highest level of food they give. You no doubt will love this place. Highly recommended.

Very disappointed with the food & service. Chicken was undercooked & no flavors. Some of the items on order were missed.

Outdoor seating has inadequate heat for each table. Been a Rasika loyal for 7 years now and the servers always disappoint with their high handed attitude. After repeated attempts over 30 mins to multiple servers for providing heat or moving us inside, nothing! Ruined the birthday experience for my wife. Don’t feel like going back!

Hands down the best Indian food I’ve ever had. You haven’t tried dal until you’ve tried their dal. Eat here. Every time I’m in dc.

<< Takeout review >> Food is very good, and some of the dishes are indeed delicious. At these prices is hard to rate 5 star a takeout experience (food is unavoidably cold and loses some of the great flavor) and you would expect every dish to be top notch. Enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori Chicken Tikka, and Red Snapper Rechad Truffle Dosa, Dal Dhungaree (very soupy), and Tawa Baingan were good but would probably try something different next time. Naan (onion and chili) were good, but pretty small Small but rich portions as you would expect from a high end restaurant.

What amazing service! Gave me free hot tea while I waited for food, and offered to keep my pide warm while they got the rest of my order ready. And when I went to go back to my car, one worker came outside in the frigid weather to walk all the way back to the car with me, ensuring I didn’t drop anything. Best service I’ve had in a while and such amazing staff. Wholeheartedly recommend!

Picked up food over the weekend and the food was impeccable as always, however my experience this time was displeasing to say the least. We ordered two curry entrees amongst other things and received one side of rice. I called the restaurant once I noticed and they informed me that both sides were put into one container so I just ordered two more sides of rice expecting the same thing, only once I got to my hotel I noticed they gave me two containers full of rice meaning I paid extra for what I was missing to begin with. The bread was burnt which I could get over but the dessert was so hard I couldn’t stick my fork in it. While waiting for the order my boyfriend overheard the manager saying something about “these type of people” which is just plain distasteful. Will have to try the other location next time.

Ive been wanting to come here for a while and the wait was totally worth it! We came for my friends birthday and had the best food and service. I usually try not to get chicken tikka Marsala but I heard such raving reviews about it that I got it and it was amazing. The lamb portions looked were a bit small but still delicious. Our server was Gregory and he went above and beyond for us. We had such a good time that we stayed til closing and they didn’t rush us! Overall, great experience!!

Best dinner of our week in DC! The West End Rasika is gorgeous, has impeccable service, and had one of Brian's favorite wines on the menu for the best price we've ever seen... And that's all before the food! The pic didn't turn out very well, but the lamb chops were amazing -- my favorite bite of food all week, especially paired with the Shiraz! It's tender, has great char just around the edges, and is served with a mint sauce I could eat on just about anything. Brian's eyes rolled back in his head when we tried the smoked duck galouti with orange marmalade. The truffle potato dosa was light but rich at the same time. My saag paneer was exactly what I was craving, a special suggestion from our server (combining paneer that is in other dishes with the Malai palak from the vegetarian menu. The creamy smokey lentils were good too: I love the idea of getting two vegetarian dishes in "side" size with some rice as a meal! This will be at the top of my reco list for pals in DC.

Amazing appetizers and desserts. Palak Chaat as advertised is the best. Also tried the sev batata puri and the duck galouti, were extremely satisfying. And the desserts... extremely lip smacking coconut Panna Cotta, mango cardamom cheesecake and hot chocolate rasmalai! Also recommend a cocktail called kaminee🤣, sounded interesting but didn't try.

Rasika lives up to its reputation as one of the finest dining experiences for Indian cuisine in DC. The hospitality was exceptional, the presentation of the food was excellent, and even though some of the dishes were disappointing, there was plenty on the menu that we loved. The Palak Chaat, Mangalorean Chicken, and Chickpeas Khichadi, Pappadums, and the Truffle Naans were our favorites. The fish chilli garlic and reshmi kebabs were also very good. The lamb biryani was disappointing. Even though the lamb was cooked well, the biryani lacked flavor, and the manager was kind enough to take it off our check. In the drinks, Sania and Sheela were quite good, but the Asha was forgettable. In the desserts, we tried the Gulab Jamun and the Kulfi. Both were average and I wouldn't recommend them. All in all, it was a positive experience where the staff was kind and treated hosts with respect, and the food was generally very good. Highly recommend it!

We were told about this place by a local and it was one of the highlights of our trip! The food was amazing and our waiter, Mani, gave us some wonderful recommendations for our dinner. The palak chaat is to die for! Highly recommend!

The vibe and our server was amazing! We ordered mango shrimp, malai kabab, seekh kabab, lamb biryani, chicken tikka masala, palak chaat, lamb chop, chili fish, and salmon. Everything was good except the biryani. It was super bland and not flavorful like a biryani should be. Not authentic.

One of the best Indian restaurants in DMV area. They have a decent menu and a well stocked bar. The service is excellent and very professional. Although you can walk in and get lucky with a table, it is advisable to make a reservation. The ambience sets the tone for a great experience. Their tandoori chicken tikkas are soft and juicy and so is their briyani which is aromatic and packet with flavours. Their popadam basket is so tempting that you'll keep ordering it over and over again. Overall, this is a great restaurant.

Best Indian food we had in Washington DC. The ambiance, service, quality of food is just chef's kiss perfection. So many food options to try. Best part is that you can get small portions of the main entree as sides. We took small portions of everything so we could try different menu items. The palak (spinach) dish is sooo good that we bought it two days in a row. Even the naan is like a cloud pillowy buttery fresh goodness. A must visit if you are in the area!! We all were happy, blessed, content and well fed humans when we left.

The food was phenomenal! We enjoyed everything: 1) Palak chaat is perfectly lightly deep fried spinach like a greasy healthy snack? I could eat that from a bag all day! 2) Fish chili garlic is so unbelievably tender. You don’t taste the spiciness until the bite is over, subtle and fragrant. 3) Lamb chops are lamb chops! You can’t go wrong. 4) Duck makhani is AMAZING. Perfectly confit’d tandoori duck legs smothered in a rich lightly sweet creamy sauce that’s simply heaven in a bite. 5) Desserts (warm black rice pudding and choc samosas) are delectable on a sweeter side.

I never visit DC without a trip to Rasika. The food is exquisite, the ambiance inviting, and the service impeccable. Palak Chaat is a must! Ask for Amanda. She's amazing, and makes great recommendations. Top tier experience!

Visiting DC and been here twice just 7 days apart. Extraordinary experience both times. Their lamb chops are to die for, better than what I had in London. Amazing fish dishes and lovely sweet potato samosas. Service was fantastic.

Great atmosphere and the service was impeccable! The person waiting on us was extremely nice and gave us complimentary dessert of gulab jamun and cardamom ice cream. The palak chaat does live up to the hype, the goat cheese kulcha is also phenomenal. Besides that the food is alright but I don’t think it’s particularly revolutionary.

Rasika was great. All the dishes were pretty different in their own way, but it also felt authentic and down to earth. The truffle dosa was a great appetizer that mixed a traditional south asian dish with a more contemporary flavor, and it worked! The lamb biryani was so good and flavorful. The spice was balanced out by the yogurt that came with it. And the lamb was so soft. The mango pudding was a nice refresher and was light. 8.6/10

The dining experience at Rasika is top notch. The servers care about giving you a good experience, and the proactivity in ensuring they take away plates/replenish silverware, etc is great. The food was superb. Our favorites were palak chat and duck makhani. The chocolate sample is the must-try dessert. The chicken tikka masala was good, but nothing out of the usual from other Indian restaurants, so I would suggest trying other things on the menu. We were celebrating a birthday of my friend and I, and at the end they brought us a special dessert. Thank you!!

Really phenomenal dinner. It ended up being pretty windy outside so we were offered seats in the bar area instead. I appreciated the gesture and we had a cozy corner - it was a little noisier than the main dining room and the tables were small, but the servers did a great job making it work. Our server was lovely, attentive and made some fantastic recommendations. I ended up trying the tasting menu and adding a black cod dish which was honestly the standout. Looking back, all of the fish dishes ended up being our favorites. The only downside was the desserts which were just overwhelmingly sweet to the point where we couldn't eat them. Otherwise an absolutely fantastic time and we look forward to going back.

Outstandinge experience overall. Rasika is an upscale Indian restaraunt that has changed my view of Indian food. Every dish was extremely tasty and the meat (chicken and lamb dishes) was extremely tender. The service from our waiter, Janaka, was exceptional. Janaka was very attentive and gave us great food recommendations. Our favorite dishes: Malai Seekh Kebab, Palak Chaat, Chicken Tikka Masala, Punjabi Gosh, Garlic Naan I highly recommend this restaurant, and we will definitely be back!

The flavors are so layered and complex, truly the best I’ve had. Must order the palak chaat. You could eat an entire bowl just yourself, it’s that delicious. Chicken tikka masala was so flavorful, unlike you’ve ever had!! The cardamom ice cream was the perfect finish.

Wow! What a gem. Incredible Indian food in a beautifully designed restaurant that transforms you to a secret place full of delicious spices and perfect service. You’ll have to start with their famous Palak Chaat crispy spinach covered in goodness. The smoked eggplant vegetable side was to die for - smooth babaganoosh with a touch of Indian spice and peas. The truffle dosa was a great starter for two people - and very generous slices of truffle stuffed inside! The chicken dish we had was also perfectly spiced and perfectly cooked and came with a small side of rice that was plenty!
