BEST INDIAN MEAL OF MY LIFE!! I heard about the James Beard awards so I had high expectations. It was incredible! The local sourced food and the story of where the food comes from was fascinating. The chicken that is marinated for 40 hours....my goodness it was good. The Duck.....it was tender and so much flavor! The mango pie....I neeeeed it in my life. Everything was made from scratch and it tasted like the chef was proud. Really impressive experience. Our party of 7 all said it was the best Indian meal of their life. We look forward to our next meal here.

It was good, we went for lunch. With lunch, you get rice and naan bread and soup or salad. We got the soup and it was very good. My husband got butter chicken and said it was good, I got punjabi chicken, and it was good, but I felt like it was a little watered down. I'll stick to my traditional curry. Our waiter Ajay was good and helpful.

Excellent dinner this evening with my brother at Lehja. We sat outside since the weather was so nice. We ordered Gobi Manchurian as an appetizer. Very delicious and unique spice profile compared to other Gobi Manchurian I have tried. For our main course we ordered Banarsi vegetables, kofta chaman dilkhush, and garlic naan. All spice levels were level 3 of max 5. The spice profiles were excellent for both the vegetables and kofta entrees. Lehja has very distinct flavors which I love and appreciate. Service was good. Garlic naan was delicious. Overall, a flavorful, relaxed, and excellent dinner. I will return if I am in Richmond again.

Me and my wife were in Short Pump and we were in the mood for Some Indian cuisine. The restaurant was empty because they were about to close after lunch hours but i glad it was because the food came out fast, delicious and fresh. This was our first time here and it was a great experience, the waiter was great and friendly. We will definitely be back again because everything was great.

I have been to this place multiple times with family. But my last visit was a business gathering. Loved the manager coming and explaining the story and nuances on food. Loved the wine tasting as part of the full course meal. Ambience was good. Loved the chicken, tuna sushi with bhel, kachori, loved the Indian food with international touch . Loved the evening dinner.

Two for ambience. But the food!!? Not to the standards of their prices. It’s not pretty much an authentic taste of Indian food, and moreover they charged a lot for the small quantity offered. Plating is a art and science that includes many aspects. The quantity and the quality don’t match the extreme prices they quoted upon. It’s NOT AT ALL RECOMMENDED! Big dissatisfaction.

Amazing, High quality, authentic Indian cuisine. Our first dine-in experience was fantastic. My pet peeve with some Indian restaurants is over cooked food… but not here! Scallops were cooked to perfection paired with generous amounts of Chesapeake Bay crab. The lamb was very tender and full of flavor. The Executive Chef (Sonny) was talking with customers and personally ensuring all were well attended. Thank you for an amazing Lunch and a wonderful first time experience! I’ll be back soon to try the NC trout when it’s on the menu. (Thanks for the advice and tips, Sonny).

I ordered a starter, main course and gulab jamun. The starters and main course were pretty good in taste. But the gulab jamun wasn't good at all, it was rubbery when I ate it and it felt that it wasn't even fresh, they had just warmed it up and served it to me. Really disappointed with the quality of gulab jamun. Overall the food is very expensive. The good service was commendable, I feel the person taking the order should have shown some welcoming nature.

I loved it! Me and my boyfriend went for my birthday on Memorial Day. It was warm, nice, and beautiful inside and out. As soon as I walked in I noticed familiar music! We were seated and served greatly too. I wish I remembered our server's name but he wore these cute little suspenders and he recommend so many things he suggested a drink. I was just turning 21 and very excited to order my first one, it was soooooo good tasted just like mango juice (with a spunk). The drink presentation was amazing and so were his other recommendations for the “flourless chocolate cake” I believe that was the name. And he wrote happy birthday for me on my plate ! The chocolate it was so rich I wanted to eat slowly 😭 my boyfriend and I could barely get a picture the food looked so good we dug in immediately but here’s what we were able to capture! (The owner was so amazing he also came to our table. I knew I was going to write a great review when he came and talked to us.he didn’t tell me he was the owner but I just knew the way he carried himself and the way he spoke he HAD to be) great service great food great looks and great music 😭that rice!?!? Let me tell you😍😍😍

Excellent Vegetarian dishes-they don’t taste laden with oil & Sat well in my stomach-food appearance is visually appealing- Mr Sunny B. was a James Beard Semifinalist-a formidable feat to rise up to! Well worth the cost! You earned it! Thank you! Courteous, efficient personable service.

Food is night and day between what it was and what it is now. The first time we went for a family party, and it was excellent. We went back recently, expecting it to be great. And the second time, it’s the worst Indian food I’ve ever had. The lamb was so tough and flavorless it was almost inedible. Go anywhere else, they did not seem interested in admitting how bad the food was. Also notable that when I asked my Indian friend about Lehja, he said do not go there.

One of the better Indian restaurants I’ve been to! Service and atmosphere were both great. The food was very delicious! If you can handle your heat, I’d recommend a level 4. We got their gobi Manchurian, chicken tikka masala, chicken tikka (no gravy) and palak paneer. It was all very delicious! Would recommend this place!

We went for Friday night dinner and ordered few of my staple fav (kala chana goat cheese tikki) and tried few new dishes ( methi malai corn). This was the first time i took my mother there. She was on her first trip to richmond and really liked the food and taste. She was very happy with the owner as he got her special shikanji mocktail without ice and also shared the story of how they added methi malai makai dish on the menu.. Great experience..

Very good food! Ordered my staple, Butter Chicken medium and Garlic Naan and a sparkling water (typically SP or Benedetto but to my surprise they had Voss). Chicken was VERY tender which is not the usual for tandoori and the flavors were exceptional. Only miss was the heat. I order medium (although hot I can handle) as I wanted to preserve the flavors. It was definitely hot. The naan was also very good.

For a place that was award-winning at one point, I was extremely let down. I got the simplest order of butter chicken with rice and naan. The butter chicken, which I had ordered hot, was not hot in the slightest. It had no flavor at all to it! So dissappointing. The rice was okay, just regular basmati rice. But the naan was completely burnt. See picture attached. I had to break off pieces of the burnt to eat the naan. I wouldn’t care as much about the food quality if the meal wasn’t so expensive. Over $20 for butter chicken.. for it to be completely tasteless. Will not be returning.

The expectation was not matched compared to what was received, unfortunately. Based on the reviews I was expecting something out of the ordinary to phenomenal. Right now my husband is in the bathroom, nauseous and sick after eating. Will not be ordering again.

I went to Lehja for New Years Eve dinner based on the recommendation of my dining companion who had had a good meal there in the past. Unfortunately, for this visit, the experience was not good. Though not memorable, the food was tasty enough. No real complaints there. But it was the service that ruined the meal. The servers practically tossed the dishes on the table, the entrees and appetizers showed up at odd times, and the check was presented before we were finished. But the worst moment came when the "busperson" - an older gentleman who looked as though he hadn't smiled in years - loudly stacked the plates and bowls at the next table, then brought them to our table, piled them on our plates and serving bowls before he hastily and noisily cleared them away without a word of acknowledgement of our presence. In my experience, having waitstaff stack plates at a table is unappetizing and distracting. In this case it only added to the overall atmosphere of carelessness and inattention to our comfort and satisfaction.

Visit no. 2 in Dec 2019. Ridiculous food quality and service. The aperizers had a random blend of sauces to make it taste like Indian food. Relative score to 4 other Indian restaurants I visited in Richmond- 2/10 for food quality, 3/10 for service, 6/10 for ambiance.

Lehja can be only described in one word and that is “Exceptional”. This was my second visit to Lehja in the last 2 weeks . I came here with my co workers and fall in love with this place . Our group ordered family style lunch and it was amazing and I made reservations to come with the family during holidays. We came after Christmas and they were packed . The food , service and ambiance all make it one of the greatest restaurants in Richmond . We had Chaat , Cauliflower and Scallops, they were all great and the Grilled Seabass Fillet was probably the best fish dish I have ever tried . We had two wines including an Indian Viognier was amazing . The manager was super nice and helped us picking the right wine and added to the experience. Can’t wait to come back.

Food was excellent! I recieve better service at the McDonald's drive thru. Took over an hour to receive our food. The excuse was that one member of our group ordered something that took longer to prepare. REALLY? Word to the wise don't order the lamb chops if you want your food in a timely manner. Saw multiple tables come and leave. We were also rushed out by people taking plates that people were not done with and to go dishes shoved in our faces. The gentleman taking the plates from the table spilled food on my husbands lap and did not even acknowledge it. Tickets were wrong twice. Had to take pens and cross out what we didnt have and write in what we did have for the server to get it right. Again the food was excellent but the service ensures that I will never go back.

The food is always amazing. One of the best restaurants in Richmond. Save room for dessert. Rose, pistachio and mango ice cream.

The food was okay. It is important that the servers follow the guidance of Servsafe. If the server were trained on food sanitation, they need to be retrained on the proper way to hold a plate. It is never okay to hold a plate with your thumb in the edge of a plate with or without food in it.

  • 2/5 Mujahid A. 4 years ago on Google
The food was amazing! We did have a few issues with the servers being abrasive, putting his thumb in the plate, standing very close and reaching over people in our group to pour water. At the end of our visit, the server put everyone's food on one receipt. When we asked for separate receipts, it was as if we asked them to shift the building a few feet. One server kept pressuring one person in our group to give him the book with receipt and credit card. She was not ready to give it to him, but he wad persistent in telling her where to put the card and trying to grab it from her. My overall thought for this place is to order the food at the counter and take it to go.

I’m a connoisseur of fine Indian and Pakistani food. Even if it’s self-declared, my palate knows it’s stuff :) Lehja is absolutely phenomenal. I’ve had the chicken tikka masala and the lamb rogan josh and they were mind blowing. Tonight, I had a specialty lamb dish that isn’t normally on the menu and it nearly brought tears to my eyes. So good! This place never disappoints. Service, food, atmosphere are A+ in my book!

My family of four had a great, great time at our dinner at Lehja. We made advance reservations via OpenTable and everything worked as per plan. The place has a great ambience and the food is simply amazing! Chef “Sunny” Baweja explained to us how his entire menu is farm-to-table using materials from local places and the menu has a ton of variety covering food delicacies from all parts of India!! All of our food items were simply delicious with unique tastes to every dish and the playing was perfection!! The food also arrived in a timely manner — and the serving staff was also very courteous and respectful. All in all, a top-notch experience!!

Well. Both myself and my wife in our fifties. We are from Kashmir. We have eaten, cooked and sampled ALL varieties of Asian foods all our lives. Enter Lehja. To say we immensely enjoyed our dinner would be a huge understatement. Parking is plentiful. The restaurant is clean with classy ambience. We were served immediately and our drinks were on our table within 5 minutes of being seated. (my pet peeve...having to wait around for a waiter to take our drink order). Started with the most delectable gobi manchurian served on a delicious tomato sauce patina. My wife's cocktail Princess of Kashmir was slurpily delicious. The tomato soup was tangy, coconutty and downright obscenely decadent. We shared a mango lassi so delicious that we saved it for dessert. The wine list is several pages long and boasts as being one of the top in the US. Main course...my tandoori lamb chops had that special char that can only be tasted not described. My wife's saag paneer and Dal Lehja were sublime. The garlic naan and anchari paratha were finely textured and rich and literally melt in the mouth. My Malvani Rassa Goat was replete with nuanced flavors unlike anything I have ever eaten and I've been eating goat all my life. And the icing on the cake was the humility and grace of the owner, Sunny, who took personal pleasure in going around the tables and speaking to the diners. A real life true blue American success story. Well, finally, I feel nothing is more telling than the fact that we went back for another evening of pure gluttony the very next day. This time we had the Dal Makhani, Firecracker Chicken, Duck A La Pondicherry and the Goat Biryani all quite exquisite once again. A must eat restaurant in Short Pump, Richmond, VA.

Honestly kinda disappointed in the quality of food and service I have received from this restaurant. I was very excited to eat here after the raving reviews but from my experience I feel you get a more authentic Indian cusine from the smaller rva restaurants. My problem first occurred when I walked into a hot and humid restaurant. We then got seated to our table and it took make 15-20 for someone to come take our order we asked the server if we can place our order and he walked away and then walked back and forth past my table. We then ordered the ghost pepper chicken tikka and it was not up to par it looked like the took a frozen chicken kebab and played it as fresh. The butter chicken we ordered was not up to the level of its pricing at all. Overall okay service and food.

We ordered 2 veg biryani for Saturday night on 5/15/2020. They added whole tamarind with seeds in it. They added uncut carrot and unpeeled potatoes. Worst biryani ever. I know their biryani is more like pulaw but today it was not even that it was real bad. Even the raita was pain curd with no flavor to it and it felt like curd bought from store directly. Generally they have decent food but this time you really messed up.

With many places being busy for Mothers Day it was destiny that led us to Lehja. Always wanting to try something new, this was pure heaven. After a short wait we were seated and drooled over the menu. Even though I cannot remember the name of what we ate, I will not forget the decadent flavors served here. We will surely be back again.

Delicious but tiny portins for a large price tag. The pic with the rice and lamb was over $12. All the entrees were over $12 and not enough to fill up the average person. We asked for medium spicy and everyone, no matter which dish, were all mild. Still yummy but not exactly what we ordered. I feel the portions were not big enough to justify the price. They did not give us the correct spice level, ( and I'm a thai spicy kinda person) again, still delicious but not spicy at all. So, overall, depsite it being well decorated, and very nice staff, a bit disappointing. ?

I called them to do order to go, it was 1 PM sunday. I opened them menu from their website my order should be 28$ + tax, when I went their the bill was 45.91$. When I asked them why it, their answer was this menu online used from Monday-Friday, NOT on weekends. I asked okay, why there's no weekends menu online on the website. She told I don't know. What a twisted way to get money. Disrespectful, not honest, rude, manipulated and its only for greediness. Instead of gaining customer they lose one. My advice if you do order with them online, in the end ask for the price. Be careful with them.

Can't tell you how bad the service is here. Our waiter was terrible. He acted like he was doing us a favor and looked completely anoid that we were there. Had to ask for plates, silverware, forgot one of our appetizers, had to literally go find him to see what happened to the drinks we ordered 20 minutes ago. I must be in the minority, the place was busy and has solid reviews, but the food, and atmosphere were just okay, put bad service in there and I'm never going back. I had chicken and veggies.. And there was hardly any vegetables.

Amazing experience. I went with my girl friend on Valentines Day. They were so busy, but everything was so well organized.I ordered the Chaat, Gobhi Manchurian to start with and for main courses we had Tandoori Chillian Seabass and Crab Scallop Meljol with the Mushroom- Goat cheese ,truffle naan. It was probably the best meal of my life with the best company. I know now why they are the best restaurant in Richmond. We saw the governor coming in to dine in while we were leaving. So this place is genuinely delicious .Lehja, I am dreaming about you since that day. I will be back soon. If you haven’t tried this place, you are missing life.

The absolute best food, staff, and owner. The owner/chef came out and explained our dishes to us with a bit of Indian history to go with each of them. The Paneer Asparagus was full of flavor that hit on many levels and the care that was put into the slow cooking of the dish was evident. The same went for the lamb in cashew sauce which was beyond creamy yet held no cream. The were beyond decadent and fit for a king. Thank goodness for the delicious garlic Naan to wipe the dish clean otherwise I would have had to resort to other measures! The staff made sure to always check in and top off our drinks. It was also well priced for the quantity and quality of food. Highly recommend!

I didn't get to experience the whole dining experience. I'm a healthcare worker and the owner was so gracious to offer a free lunch to healthcare workers. I got chicken marsala, naan, and rice. Hands down the best Indian food I’ve ever had. All the familiar flavors in a new way, incredibly helpful staff who can recommend menu items or wine for you (and tell you about secret menu items not listed that are amazing, like the fried spinach appetizer). Portions are just right to be filling but not overwhelming. They also will make up a nice kebab for picky kids. The freshly made to order chai is a wonderful post-dinner treat.

The customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The hostess was also our server. He asked no questions and didn't come back to check in. The food was mediocre. I had the butter chicken. It was ok. My husband had the lamb and got sick when we got home. The garlic naan was delicious, and I had a Tito's and mango, and that was also good. Bill was $100 & I had to stop on the way home to feed my teen again. She had the coconut soup. Which she said had no taste and was spicy when you swallowed. Consistency was also very watery. First and last visit.
