A beautiful architecture in the heart of Kolkata. This pagoda was originally built in Burma (Myanmar). In 1853, Lord Dalhousie brought this pagoda to Kolkata. The pagoda stands on a land surrounded by a waterbody, inside the Eden Uddyan (Park). Proper maintenance of such beautiful architecture is very much needed as several parts of the pagoda have been damaged and large spider webs are hanging from the ceiling! Visitors should also maintain the beauty and sanctity of the place by not throwing chips packets and other garbage in the pagoda premises or not writing their love stories on the pillars of the pagoda.

You can spend a great time here with friends or family. Enchanting green, calm and pleasant environment. Fishes playing with clean water, birds chirping, you would not think so close to the bustling area of Kolkata. Best time to visit here is afternoon. Toilet facilities are available here.

There are many benches lined up beside the lake...where people can sit sit and spend some quality time💏💑...this place is kinda safe for lovebirds as this place is not that popular and crowded...so you can enjoy more...💏 However, this part is not family friendly...🙈🔞

The Buddhist pagoda or more popularly called the Burmese pagoda was placed in the Eden gardens about 150 years ago and was brought from Burma (now known as Myanmar). The pagoda stands on a green strip of land and more or less about 80 percent of it is surrounded by a lake. The beautiful woodwork was designed by Ma Kin of Prome, around 1852. On a visitation to Prome of Burma, in 1853, Lord Dalhousie admired the structure and wished it to be brought to Kolkata (then Calcutta). The Pagoda was then shipped to the country in 1854. After 3 months of work by Burmese artisans, it was erected again in Eden Gardens in 1856. This pagoda has a tiered Buddhist Shrine, formerly called Tazaung, in which the tiers shortens as it rises and has a spire on top. Various characters from mythology such as animals and birds are delicately curved on the woods. A magnificent image of Lord Buddha is inside the pagoda. The deity has a jewel-encrusted forehead.

Buddhist Pagoda is located in an island garden, right behind the famous Eden Garden stadium. The 150 year old Pagoda originally belonged to Prome, Burma (now Pyay, Myanmar). It was built in 1852 by Ma Kin, the widow of Maung Honon, Governor of Prome.  In 1853, when Lord Dalhousie visited Prome after the town was taken by the British, he shifted the Pagoda to Calcutta.
