One of the famous and oldest temple in Kolkata .This temple is located on the banks of the river Hoogly and is next to a crematorium. The Bashma Aarti of Bhootnath temple in Kolkata has continued even during the lockdown. Every day, at 6 am and 7 pm, the aarti is conducted as a ritual. Though the Bhootnath temple was closed during the lockdown and during the saavan month, the Bhasma Aarti, which is a 300-year-old tradition, has been continued by the priests of the temple. A Bhasma is the ashes of a dead body that is burnt in a crematorium. Devotees believe that in order to offer Bhasma to Lord Shiva, every day a body reaches Nimtalla burning ghat which is the nearby crematorium. Senior priest Ganesh explained, “It is the glory of the lord. The way the sun and the moon rise on its usual time, similarly, every day at the time of the art, a pyre is brought to the crematorium and the Bhasma Aarti is conducted on the usual time. It's the faith of the lord that a body reaches before these timings and we get the ashes to be offered for the aarti too". Har har mahadev ❤️🙏

Bhootnath temple is known for God Shiva. Though there are many temples near by of different God and Goddess, but the footfall is more for to visit Bhootnath temple. The best thing that the place offer is visitor can sit on the banks of Ganga and enjoy the view secondly the "tea" and "litti chokha".

#A_different_world_from_my_lens You may be thinking why such name ? Because I have seen a totally different side ,which someway or the other we all have seen but we forget or we ignore it or we try to hide it . No no ! Don't think I am blaming you not at all because I am also one of like you . You see being covered with so golden and glitters I have forgot that grey also exist . A grey which is neither the white nor the black but it is mixed in between of hope and dissatisfaction . So the story is I went to visit this place known as Bhootnath Temple to find peace to discover and capture the new world through my camera and I was successful in it . I did saw those people faces sitting in one corner thinking of wether they will be able to have even one time meal ? I did capture those malnourished childrens who are not even covered properly . I did capture the urge of food and the pain of hunger such that it made the person have a piece of potato from a thrown plate or what we call as waste food . I know I know you must be thinking "oh!! So painful but what can we do ? " It's true we can't . We can only help them for little but for life long ? We can't . All I just wanna say is this someway it made me realise how lucky I am that I wasn't in grey . I am either a white or a black . You think life is hard ? Yes it is but atleast you have colours to see , you have freedom to dream . You have freedom to dream Isn't that's beautiful ? Aren't you lucky ? That's why I want to call it 'A Different World From My Lens '. Because it captured those grey in the midst of glitters that I and you are covered with .

Nearest Metro station is Sobhabazar and from there you can take auto to Ahiritola Ghat, just 2 min walking from there - the temple is peaceful but is crowded

If you talk about me I visit there mostly everyday if I am in Kolkata because it’s is based near River Hooghly where if you go and sit nearby, you won’t think about time.

The Shri Bhootnath Baba Temple, Kolkata is one of the most famous temples designated to Lord Shiva. He is associated with all the spirits and bhoots hence the name Bhootnath. The Hindus rever Him especially in this regard because He is known to calm down the spirits and save the living. They also regard the Shri Bhootnath Baba Temple Prasad as the most sacred offering. This Shri Bhootnath Baba Temple is the ultimate destination to visit during the Shivratri season when Bhootnath Baba Himself is His fullest avatar. It is a spectacle worth watching.
