The erstwhile Manjusha under the West Bengal Handicrafts Development Corporationwas a loss bearing enterprise. Manjusha posted its first operational profit of Rs 3.15 crore since 1976, while Tantuja (under the West Bengal State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society), set up in 1945, made record operational profits in 2015-16 at Rs 3.5 crore. Till 2013, the two entities - established with the purpose of promoting and marketing the craftsmanship of Bengal - were heavily subsidised by the state government. After coming to power in 2011, Mamata Banerjeeinitiated the development of a micro, small and medium enterprises. In 2013, Biswa Bangla came into existence to promote the state's dying arts and crafts. The first store to sell products under the brand came up in 2014 in Kolkata.[5]

The store is a decent size store with a lot of handicraft items which are highly priced. These shops are only frequented by people who will not get a chance to visit the poush mela or the karunamoyee mela etc and hence they will pay the price for the items which are 1/10th in places like Kumartuli and other artisan areas. Good collection of items and polite staff.

Not a very warm team. When I asked the individual at the counter, regarding any warranty on the handicrafts, which were nothing less than 2-5k minimum, they said there's none and to check properly before purchasing. Doesn't sound right - paying 2k for something and the paint rubs off and you guys don't do anything about it..

Very intriguing and unique selection of merchandise. However, there could be more variety. The choice is rather limited so there is scope for improvement.

Store has good collection but the behaviour of the man behind the cash counter was unacceptable. He was quite rude. We had gone to exchange a saree bought online but instead of cooperating, he said a flat no. His way of talking was not right. Had to call the head office and Mr. Mafizul offered his kind help and got us through the process.

Grossly overpriced! Even Banalaksmi Ghee is priced double of the actual price. Limited range of products, staff is very casual and disinterested. AVOID THIS STORE!

Very unprofessional sales team. They will not pack your item however costly it may be. Not bothered to lose sales and customers for this. Fixed salary every month so not bothered.

Good options. Costly stuff. Staff needs to be more friendly (too much attitude) and at closing time it's like : go, tomorrow.

The staffs were not polite at all. One staff was extremely arrogant and rude. He behaved in such an insulting way that made us walk out of the store. They don't even deserve 1/4th a star.
