Temple is located in picturesque surroundings on the banks of Valapattinam river. The climb-down from the bus-stand amidst greenery through steps (about 100) or a winding road (using bikes/ Autorickshaw/car) is a memorable experience. The only temple in Kerala that receives devotees with Tea and traditional snacks. The belief is that Sree Muthappan disapproves devotees coming to worship Him with starving stomachs. Great indeed. Free lunch is available at the temple complex after 12.30 PM. Boat ride across the river is an enchanting option. Vellattam (an ancient ritualistic form of worship in which the priest in an elaborate traditional attire (as in Theyyam) goes into trance and acts like an oracle listening to the grievances of devotees and suggesting remedial measures) takes place in the morning and evening. Overall, an unforgettable spiritual experience. Those who visit once are certain to come again and again.

A must visit temple in North Kerala. It's almost 12 km away from Kannur. No restriction for temple entry. All humans, irrespective of religion or caste or custom, are welcomed and treated equally. Toddy, the local palm wine, is one of the main offerings here. If you are a strong believer of the infinite strength of your mind, this place is for you. You will feel your inner God on purity here.

The best part of parassinikadavu Temple is that despite belonging to any religion you can visit this temple and they will only treat you equally. This is the most welcoming part of this temple. There is positivity filled in in this temple. Do visit this temple once in a while.

A temple situated on the banks of river Valapattanam for all Lord Mutthapa worshippers. The temple has food service (prasadam) as well. It has a decent infrastructure with properly managed entry and exit. There are boating services as well which give you serene view of the temple. Also, there is a Snake park 15 mins away from this temple.

Beautiful temple, located on the banks of Valapattanam River. The surrounding scenery is beautiful and it fills you with a sense of calm and happiness. There are also many boats which offer rides across the river. The temple is surrounded by various colorful toy and fancy shops.

A temple in North Kerala that you must visit. Make sure you call to temple prior your visit and know the Vellatt, Thiruvappana timings earlier. Saturdays would be ideal to see both Muthappan and Thiruvappan. Food and Accommodations is not even a problem to think about since there are so many hotels and lodges available within walkable distance from the temple. Nearest bus station in just 10 mins walking distance from Temple from which you can get bus to both Dharmashala and Kannur(where the nearest Railway station present). There’s a facility for boating in Valapattanam river by government of Kerala tourism department which can also be tried if you have ample time during the visit. Timing of boat is announced in the temple.

An amazing temple which allows anybody to enter in. It is a very famous temple in Malabar for its acceptance of any people without asking their race caste gender or any other things. Dogs are the main attraction in the temple. They are allowed to wander, sleep and sit wherever they want to. Even sculptures of dogs are placed in front of the temple. Direct buses are available from Kannur to the Parassini stand which is nearby the temple. Beautiful river side view is available. Food is being served for thousands a day which is completely free. Offerings are very cheap and the total offerings price is just Rs. 170 only. A must visit temple in Kerala.

Parassinikadavu Muthappan temple is a temple, located at Parassinikadavu in Anthoor Municipality on the banks of the Valapattanam river about 10 km from Taliparamba and 16 km from Kannur City in Kannur District, Kerala.Principal deity of the temple is Sree Muthappan, whose divinity is presented as a ritualistic theyyam enactment in two versions called Thiruvappana and Vellattam. According to the local tradition the presiding deity is a manifestation of Lord Shiva Vellattam and Thiruvappana are the generic names for two types of ' Theyyam Ketti-aadal ' in the kavu/temples of North Malabar. Vellattom is a minor version of the ritual enactment where the ornaments, decorations and parapharnelia are minimal thanks to which all actions including vaaythari (speech) is maximum and Attam (dance) will be at its peak. If you compare this level of enactment to the idol of a deity in a temple sanctum which is installed as per sathwic sasthra and vedic rituals, Vellattom is at par with the idol alone without the prabha-mandalam which circles it. A more easier example is the Seeveli ceremony with only the small idol on top of the elephant

Parassinikadavu Muthappan temple is a temple located at Parassinikadavu in Anthoor municipality on the banks of the Valapattanam river about 10 km from Taliparamba and 20 km from Kannur town in Kannur district, Kerala. Parassinikkadavu is noted for the famous Muthappan temple where people go for worshipping Sree Muthappan. This is the only Hindu Temple in Kerala where a Theyyam performance is a daily ritual offering.

The diety Sree Muthappan though born as a Brahmin broke all caste and class hierarchies. The temple does not follow the satvik Brahminical form of worship and the customary offerings to appease the deity of this temple are fish, meat and toddy, the favourite cuisines of Sree Muthappan. One can find dogs walking in and out of the temple because dogs have been a constant companion of Muthappan. They are well fed and well cared for in this beautiful abode of a diety who is secular in every sense of the term. 🙏

Favorite place in my district. It's a symbol of that shows "Love is beyond everything" . A temple that has no restrictions by Religions. And whenever you go there food will be there for you. And now tourism is growing well. Boat ride pulled up the visitors count.

Superstition at its peak. Sad to see people donating money to a person dressed in a funny attire to get imaginary blessings. The place was very crowded.

One of the most beautiful temples that I visited in Kerala. Once you have arrived, you will find that you have entered a another universe. You are welcome to share all of your concerns and difficulties with Muthappan, and in return, he will bless you and offer his guidance. The temple is open from 5.30 in the morning till 8 in the evening. You must go to Muthappan at either six in the morning or six in the evening if you want to see him. Things might be different on Friday. If you want to view Thiruappan, you have to arrive at the temple by six in the morning. Annadanam will be held in the afternoon from 1:30 to 2:30 and again in the evening from 8:15 to 9:30. If you are there at a different time than the annandan timing, the cherupayar and tea will be waiting for you at the back door. There are restrooms accessible for your use. Fee accommodations will be made available to anyone who want to stay there (viri). Those who arrive by bus are required to walk, whereas those who drive themselves can drive right up to the front entrance.

Serene temple. Beautiful route to drive. The whole experience was magnificent. This is one of the best temples to explore and witness the authentic northern Kerala folklore tradition. You get food as Prasadam all day here. There’s ample private parking space. The temple is situated on the shore of a river where boating services are available. It’s an exemplary temple where you can enter irrespective of religion or caste. There is no Vedic form of worship followed here but mostly ritualistic.

One of the must visit location if you're in Kannur. A famous pilgrim site, located on the bank of the Valapattanam River, near Thalipparambu in the district of Kannur. The presiding deity of the temple, Sri Muthappan, is believed to be an embodiment of two mythical beings, Thiruvappana (Lord Vishnu) and Vellatom (Lord Shiva). Dogs are considered sacred here as it was the vehicle of the deity. Devotees that remain for a very short time are given prasadam-tea, boiled beans, and a piece of coconut kernal. The temple offers free meals and accommodation for all of its visitors.

Temple ambience n vibe n cleanliness is just awesome.. always parassini muthappan gives a different vibe to the life .. The small n big hotels near the temple premises need to be checked for the cleanliness in kitchen n availability of more vegetarian food options n the customer service can be improved more... Basic sanitation facilities available in the temple are not truly hygienic n looked upon....but yeah it has improved tremendously compared to few years back. A permanent n regulated cleaning team would resolve the issue.
