Hidden in the outer Himalayan range of the Kumaoni mountains is an emerald-colored jewel called Khurpatal Lake in the Khurpatal town. This lesser famous town is a tourist's and photographer's paradise as the emerald-colored waters of this lake offer the best pictures, with backdrop as good as a postcard. Located 10 km away from the Nainital city, Khurpatal town is a beautiful town surrounded by lush green forests and sky-high trees. The lake is trowel-shaped water body hence named Khurpatal in the local language. A 'khurpa' is a hindi word for a digging tool used in gardening. The color is emerald which looks heavenly and offers the best pictures. The lake is home to a variety of fish which makes it a perfect destination for angling and fishing. A lot of fishing activities are carried out throughout the year at Khurpatal lake which suffices for the fish-eating population in the area. The fishing here is done in the traditional way and is a family activity.

Amazing view. One of the least visited place, and hence it is mostly left undisturbed. Place is a government resort. If you can, visit the lake side and spend some quite time there - it will definitely help you recharge. Best time to visit will be a weekend.

This is located near Nainital. There is a temple. But due to rain and fog we cannot see anything very clear. Overall nice location.

A beautiful place near Nainital, much underrated though... Just 11 km from Nainital, takes only half an hour to reach Nainital. Staying at Khurpatal is a cool experience, away from hustle bustle of Nainital... Enjoy the serene atmosphere amidst the hills...

We had not visited khurpatal but seen khurpatal lake view point from above. It is the best point according to me. Local public said this lake was so deep up to patal and made by pandavas and lake water change color seven time in one year. Khurpatal lake view point is one of the 12 points of nainital darsan tour by taxi Rs. 1500 all day As the region of Nainital is famous for its lakes and various water bodies, Khurpatal lake is one such body which plays an essential role in supplying water to the town. These lakes make sure that residents can drink safe water and never fall short of it. There are hills and tall trees surrounding the lake which makes the location look more beautiful. Location: It is located in the Khurpatal town of Nainital. The place is just at a distance of 10 km from Nainital. Highlights: You can spot a lot of fishes here because it provides a natural habitat for many fish species. Even fishing activities are carried out here which suffices the need of fish eating habits in the region. If you notice, the lake resembles the color of an emerald. This is quite interesting for the tourists and they love to take pictures of this beautiful natural lake.

This lake is the only lake not commercial in Nainital. It has no direct connection or road to reach. The beauty of this lake is that it changes 07 colours in a year. So you need to visit throughout the year to witness this beautiful phenomena. The lake is surrounded by the forest on one side and the village on the other, while western side of the lake touches the Army Colony.

Beautiful place to hang out, network could be an issue here but the view is breathtaking, one can see the plains as well as the beautiful lake ... best time to visit would be after rains or early morning when it is clear

Khurpatal is a small, beautiful lake in Kumaon district, and is shaped (as is indicated by its name) like the hoof of a cow. This spot along the highway offers a scenic view of Khurpatal. Compared to Nainital View and Snow View, this one is less popular, and therefore less crowded. For the best view, you do need to walk out a few metres onto the side of the mountain, but if you're careful, it's safe enough.
