The Museu de Belles Arts de València (Valencian pronunciation: [muˈzɛw ðe ˈbeʎez ˈaɾdz de vaˈlensia]; Spanish: Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia; English: "Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia") is an art gallery in Valencia, Spain, founded in 1913. It houses some 2,000 works, most dating from the 14th–17th centuries, including a Self portrait of Diego Velázquez, a St. John the Baptist by El Greco, Goya's Playing Children, Gonzalo Pérez's Altarpiece of Sts. Ursula, Martin and Antony and a Madonna with Writing Child and Bishop by the Italian Renaissance master Pinturicchio. It houses a large series of engravings by Giovan Battista Piranesi.

This museum is simply beautiful. There are many impressive works of art here and it is free to visit too. Allow around 45 minutes to explore all in detail.

The Museum is beautiful. You can easily spend around 2 hours there. The building is beautiful itself. There are 2 main sections, and a third section for temporary exhibitions. During my visit in October 2023, the temporary exhibition was a beautiful Sorolla collection. The entrance is free of charge.

Best museum in Valencia! The doors are usually closed so don’t be afraid and go in. The museum was free entry for us but I don’t know if that was because it was a weekend, however, I still believe it’s worth a visit! There’s a combination of holy paintings, Greco paintings, ceramics, historical paintings, etc. Its a huge museum that has everything you could desire and it has a stunning blue patio which is great for photos. You will be told to leave your belongings in a locker which costs €1 but it will give you the money back. If you don’t have any change, go to the reception as they will give you a coin for use.

Free activity to do in the city is nice. You have to pay for a locker to put your bag they won’t let you bring it in.

I visited the site twice due to my first visit I got hungry, It was free, not crowded, and had a large range of different pieces though no typical known masters. That said I enjoyed the museum and found several pieces that were quite interesting to me.

Amazing museum with large permanent exhibitions covering religious art, painting & sculpture. Great collection of local artists displayed chronologically. I was lucky to meet an incredible temporary exhibition of famously known Valencian artist Sorolla which was extraordinary. The museum is free which is so generous and the facilities are great with many bathrooms and handicap access. The only downside for me was that you need to leave your bag and water in a locker that works with only works with euro coins (which is given back). That’s a headache If you don’t bring any cash which is not that uncommon nowadays.

The ticket was free of charge. The Francisco Goya part impressed me the most. A very nice opportunity to get aquatinted with one of the most significant series, which is “LOS CAPRICHOS”. The overall museum was an aesthetically pleasing experience. Must visit.

The entrance was free, we were visiting on a Friday. There are 2 main sections: one covering pre-nineteen century with religious works and one after-nineteen century covering both paintings and sculptures. The location looks good and is clean, and there was also a temporary exhibition with paintings done by Spanish painters that were influenced by Rome. The only minor thing is that in one small section, there was sewage smell.

This place was okay as all of the artwork had a religious tone to it. Not that it is bad, but just an FYI for others. I would have given it four stars but I had to put my bag in one of those little cubicles which required 1 euro and the staff didn't have change for me from 2 euro which I think is a bit unacceptable.

The museum gets 5-stars from me for several reasons. At 2€ or less depending on your age or educational status it's a bargain. The museum is peaceful, well-kept and has friendly staff. They have a fairly substantial collection of perfectly preserved religious-themed paintings along with some pieces carved in Alabaster. Their works span from the mid-1400’s into the 1800’s by talented and some well-known artists. The details and colors in many of the older works are still vivid, spectacular really, especially considering their age. Other than in one painting from the 1400’s of St. Michael the Archangel spearing an evil beast, almost no one else in any painting was really cracking a smile. Even the cat was angry. You would think that nobody had any fun at all for over 350 years, except for St. Michael.

This museum is definitely a gem. Moreover, it’s free! Although I’m not a fan of medieval art, the collection here is quite impressive. There are some Sorolla’s paintings and artworks related to him. Don’t forget to check out the court garden; it’s super lovely. The staff members were also friendly.

My Spanish isn't super great so I had a hard time with some of the signs and speaking to staff but overall nice experience. Been here twice, weekends are definitely busy but during the week you have the museum for yourself. Enjoy a sit in the garden as well! No fee to enter and a lot of art, although the corresponding signs didnt cover much information.

The gallery is very interesting and well organized: a wide exhibition of the most precious Catalan and European art from XIII to the XIX century. Francisco Ribalta, Velasquez, Luca Giordano, and Bruegel are just a few names that you will find here

Very nice and well maintained museum, especially the last floor (lots of Sorolla and his followers). Don’t miss the impressive huge painting in the entrance! The only downside are the security guards, they follow you everywhere and it feels a bit u comfortable....(but that’s their job so it’s ok 😁)

Not bad for a free museum, i think so or quite low price but we were looking at the pictures and that’s it, no real guidance though. The pictures were quite nice, some of them, painted by the local artists, the best ones. But we were visitors and not so into arts so we did not so much about the whole history behind the pictures and in the end was a nice walk.

Touted as Spain’s second finest gallery of fine arts. If it is its organisation is disappointing. There is intimidating number of security guards who wear almost like police uniforms. Super unpleasant experience. The map is super confusing and incorrect as the 19-20c art will need three attempts to find it. Gothic art is great not much else in honesty. You will find yourself walking is narrow corridors for the most part. Reception staff don’t really talk English and guess what exhibits have descriptions only in Spanish and Valenciano. Why? But it’s free.

The main collection of the museum are religious paintings. Although the surroundings in which the paintings are set is of top quality, the paintings themselves cannot always convince me. One exception for the more expressionistic section on the second floor. A must is to also visit the gardens next to the museum.

  • 5/5 Bernard-Joseph B. 2 years ago on Google
A bit too heavy on the religious art for my taste, but everything was beautiful, well displayed, and it’s FREE to enter. It is small so you only need to spend a couple hours in it. If you’re in Valencia and you like art, you should probably make your way over there. It’s supposedly the 2nd most important art museum in Spain. The bus (6 & 11) drop you off at the front door but you have to walk a while to catch the bus back downtown. (Cross the bridge, take a left and walk down to the bus stop down by the old ruins. It’s probably 15 minutes away.) I probably wouldn’t go back a second time but I’m glad i went the first.

The second largest art gallery in Spain, woth works from the 15th to the 19th century, including rooms dedicated to the underrated Valencian painter Joaquin Sorolla, as well as room dedicated to Francisco de Goya. The museum is filled to the brim with beautiful paintings from across the centuries. A lot of it is religious art with a Catholic focus, but there's plenty to be seen here, including a Botticelli piece. The building itself is incredibly special - as you walk through the grand doors you're met with a magnificent foyer under the sapphire blue dome itself. The courtyard filled with palm trees took my breath away, and to top it all off it was completely free! Not to mention it is very clean, the receptionist was very helpful, and there were security everywhere so it felt safe.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful building, which alone would be worth a visit. Good collection of art; standing out the picture gallery and the splendid sculptures. Although there are some pieces by renowned authors (Goya, Alonso Cano, Velázquez), the presence of works by Valencian artists stands out for obvious reasons. The works of primitive locals follow one another, along with the Ribera, Maella, Vergara, Sorolla, ... among others, and of course, the Pinazo and Benlliure families. Interesting temporary exhibitions. And looking for improvements, he needs to fill that gap, of almost a century of contemporary art. Very difficult to park in the area.

Fantastic museum featuring art and artefacts from about 700 years. Best bit - it's free! The bottom floor is largely dedicated to Valencian Gothic Art, Renaissance and Baroque while the first and second floor display a collection of Spanish, Flemish and Italian art. Most famous painters include Joaquin Sorolla. The museum is located in a lovely building with several courtyards. Not a busy place, I was surprised. It also has a restaurant. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to try out the menu del dia which looked delicious on paper.

The pieces of art in the museum are just amazing, and the building in general is fascinating. However, I was disappointed to see that more than 90% of the museum covers the religious theme. Precisely, paintings on Jesus Christ and the virgin. I was looking forward seeing more variety.

There is a mosaic with a delicate and precious tiger. (Original) Estoy acostumbrada al Prado y lo vi muy pequeñito. Eso sí estábamos sólos. Tiene obras de los más grandes, una de cada pero ahí están. Hay un mosaico con un tigre delicado y precioso.

(Translated by Google) Permanent exhibition with a wide choice of Spanish and Valencian painters. We can regret the limited number of paintings by foreign painters of the same period to appreciate the different techniques. But it's still a very good museum, great setting, friendly and helpful staff.
