One of the temples that is part of the Nava Graha temple circuit, Suriya Perumal temple is about 15kms from Kumbakonam. One important feature of the temple is the presence of smaller temples for the other 8 grahas, around the main temple. There is an option to have 'special darshan' by paying Rs.20/- and this can help in having a quick darshan. On the way to the temple there are numerous street vendors selling offerings for the Lord and pink lotus flower was the popular offering.

Great temple, you may attain magical powers by visiting this place, nice shoppes on the walk to the temple, please support all small businesses. The temple itself at one time was probably great and authentic, they have ruined it by adding a roof to the temple and covering up its authentic look. Priest have to make a dollar so be sure to throw money at them. Try to walk/exit temple in clockwise position, they(priest) will try to ruin powers by making you walk counterclockwise. People be sure to do everything clockwise then and only then can you attain powers beyond any mortal.

Lord Shiva as Shiva Surya Peruman in this temple and it is Located in Thiruvidaimaruthur, Suriyanar Kovil. It is one of the 9 Navagraha Sthalas and associated with Sun Graha. Bhagwan Surya along with His consorts Pratyusha (Chhaya) Devi and Usha Devi is probably the only temple in which all 9 grahas are present (with 8 other Upadevalayas in same orientation and direction as how we install them in other temples)

Suryanar Temple is one of the popular Hindu temples dedicated to the Sun God. The temple also houses the consorts of the Sun god goddess Ushadevi and goddess Pratyusha Devi. The temple is popularly known as the Navagraha pooja, Homam and other rituals. The temple has a vast area for the assembly of devotees to perform various rituals. This ancient temple exhibits the Dravidian architecture Koil Temple Timings 6:00 am to 12:30 pm 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Suryanar Kovil is a great place of worship where devotees go to rectify the faults in their planets. A must-visit temple on your trip to Kumbakonam, Tamilnadu. Have a blissful darshan at Suryanar Kovil in Tamilnadu. May the Lord give relief from all your hardships in life and blesses you.

Suryanar Kovil (also called Suryanar Temple) is a Hindu temple🕉️ dedicated to the deity Hindu Sun-God, Surya, located in Suryanar Kovil, a village near the South Indian town of Kumbakonam Thanjavur District in Tamil Nadu, India. 💚 The presiding deity is Suriyanar, the Sun and his consorts Ushadevi and Pratyusha Devi. The temple also has separate shrines for the other eight planetary deities. The temple is considered one of the nine Navagraha temples in Tamil Nadu. The temple is one of the few historic temples dedicated to Sun god and is also the only temple in Tamil Nadu which has shrines for all the planetary deities. The present masonry structure was built during the reign of Kulottunga Choladeva (1060-1118 CE)😶 in the 11th century with later additions from the Vijayanagar period. Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple has a five-tiered rajagopuram, the gateway tower and a granite wall enclosing all the shrines of the temple. It is believed that the planetary deities were cursed by Brahma to dwell in Vellurukku Vanam, the white wild flower jungle and were blessed by Shiva 🌟to make it their abode to devotees. The temple has six daily rituals at various times from 5:30 a.m.🌄 to 9 p.m., 🌛and two yearly festivals on its calendar. The temple is maintained and administered by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Tourists watch out- Pilgrimage scam center. The temple office is run by scammers. most of the original architecture has been covered up and plastered over with concrete. You can see glimpses of an old Pandiya Gopuram and one of the Gopura has chola imagery. The Rahu / Kethu imagery here is unique also. Lots of beggars near the entrance. People hounding you to give money. Don’t buy archana or “Annadhanam” here they don’t actually get food for the sanyasi the guy will pretend to go get food and then they will bring the food back to the restaurant to run a scam. Very disappointed in the operations of this temple. None of the temple inscriptions are visible because they have been painted over or covered in concrete. Find a better temple to visit. None of the temple Staff knows about the history or significance of the carvings and they make up nonsense about it.

There is a particular order to pray to the deities starting from Kol Vinai Theertha Vinayagar to Suryanar Swamy followed by the remaining eight celestial bodies.

A unique temple for the Sun God of Tanjore District, located near Kumbakonam! The temple is not maintained very well. I must think. The consorts of Sun God are very tiny and found outside the shrine on either side of the doorstep. I don't know why they are not housed next to him, inside the sanctorum itself! I found in Kanchi also, in Jorahareshwar temple, in the shrine of Chithragupt, his consort is outside the shrine, on one side of the doorstep! The Sun God has a horse for a symbol of transport that customarily finds place at a straight line from the main shrine but outside the Ardhamandapam, at the foot of the Dojastumbam! For the name Suryanar Koil has, it easily deserves a better upkeep! I think!

Suriyanar Koil, the main deity is the lord SUN. This is the first temple in Navagraha order. Guru bahvan is standing in front of SUN. There is an order how we should worship in this temple. I’ll upload that in photo section.

Temple is clean and good... Lot of beggers and shop vendors might disturb you. Shopkeepers are money minded... They ask you to keep your luggages in their shop, which is not advisable.

The Temple for Soorya (Sun) first Griha in Vedic astrology is small but beautiful. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit and offering to this place.

Since this particular temple has many visitors the temple administration could have improved the maintenance and guidance, even the free dharshan board is misguided..

Good ancient temple. But its all over the drama of Money Money Money. You need to be careful, with all Shop keepers. Take proper knowledge of what items you need for pooja & buy it outside & go. Its like... The whole village is thriving out of the temple.
