De Mar's in Blue Island, IL is a must-visit for anyone in the mood for classic American diner fare. The restaurant has a cozy, old-school feel that instantly transports you to a simpler time. Every time I sit down in a booth it makes me feel like i can talk about nothing, (a Seinfeld reference). The menu is full of classic diner dishes, from hearty breakfast options to juicy burgers and sandwiches to homemade soups and salads. I particularly enjoyed the Tuna melt, which was perfectly put together with just the right amount of cheese and tune on white bread. The French toast was also excellent, with a soft and fluffy texture that melted in my mouth. But if you want the traditional, just order the all American breakfast, 2 eggs sunny side up, bacon, hash browns and two slices of bread, along with a cup of coffee. Everything was delicious, outstanding. The staff at De Mar's are friendly and attentive, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. They were quick to offer suggestions on what to order and were always on hand to refill drinks or answer any questions. The restaurant itself is clean and well-maintained, with a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes you want to stay for hours. There is plenty of seating, so you won't have to wait long to be seated, and the prices are reasonable for the quality of the food and service. Overall, I highly recommend De Mar's to anyone looking for a traditional American diner experience. So if you are in the area of Blue Island this restaurant is a gem, that I plan on returning to in the future.

Mannnn LOOK!!! Put some RESPECK on DE MAR's RESTAURANT!!! Hmmkay!!!! For about a month or so, Husbae & I like to try out different lil restaurants around the South part of the city. We went to this other lil cafe first but they didn't have pancakes which Husbae had a craving for so we left. I put pancakes in Google Maps and De Mars came up as the closest restaurant to us that was still open. It's crazy how many restaurants close @3 on a Saturday! But not De Mar. Bless his heart! They were open til 7 & we were starving so we headed over. Immediately cuz we were starving. Boy were we NOT disappointed! The place wasn't flashy nor appealing to the eye so I was a lil hesitant. I'm here to say, do not judge a book by its cover cuz you will miss out! Glad I didn't let that deter me. Plus this place got 4.3 stars. I was staying put. Cute decor is so overrated! Anywho I got the steak skillet. It had butt steak, hashbrowns, scrambled eggs (to your liking. I got scrambled med), cheddar cheese, green peppers and sweet onions. There aren't enough words to explain the joy to my mouth and tummy at first bite! It was love at first bite y'all!! The steak was thick, tender and flavorful! I love sweet onions! They use sweet onions!! Anybody using sweet onions is good with me! So sweet onions, grn peppers, potatoes, chddr cheese and their special seasonings makes a delicious dish! Just magically delicious y'all! I was stuffed but couldn't leave any on my plate. It was that good, LOL! Man my mouth is watering trying to type this. I need y'all to understand this joy I had cuz of this meal! But I'm not descriptive enough LBS. Y'all take my word & meet me at De Mars tomorrow, Hmmkay?!!! I'm gonna go for my morning run and then run right up there! Oh yea and they have $5 mimosas! Yes, good and strong! I was tipsy when I took a pic of it for y'all. Take a look. I think I had three good sips when I started feeling real niiiice! If you're gonna get one and you're driving, get a designated driver. Maybe I'm a lightweight but I couldn't drive. But I dnt have to ever drive when Husbae is wit me anyway sooooo (Lol) Oh yea he had, I cnt remember the name but it consisted of 2 pancakes, bacon and eggs. He ordered an extra short stack cuz he's greedy. He was wounded cuz he loved his food too. He was full before the extra short stack but he ain't no punk either. So yea we ate everything but the plates, LBS! You get good helpings too. Now the hubby and I in the past month have never went to the same restaurant TWICE. We haven't had a reason to but now?!! Shiiiidddd... De Mar has left a special impression on us! Just stuck. We ain't going nowhere except that first booth looking out that restaurant! Bow your heads urr'body! Let us pray. Father God, I come to you as I humbly know how. I ask that you bless the De Mar family and their family restaurant. Bless the cook father God. Keep him/her covered God. They are doing the Lord's work! Bless them abundantly for many years to come! This is my prayer! Thank you father God! AMEN!!! See y'all tomorrow. Dnt meet me there, beat me there!

De Mar's Family Restaurant is a large, casual diner located in Blue Island, Illinois. The restaurant has a wide variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. I visited De Mar's for a quick breakfast and ordered the hash browns, grits, wheat toast, and fruit. The hash browns were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The grits were creamy and flavorful. The wheat toast was fresh and hot. The fruit, however, was not fresh. It was mushy and tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. I was also disappointed to see that De Mar's has slot machines inside the restaurant. I understand that the restaurant is trying to make more money, but I don't think slot machines are appropriate in a family restaurant. Overall, I had a mixed experience at De Mar's Family Restaurant. The food was ok, but the fruit was not fresh and I didn't like the fact that there were slot machines inside the restaurant. I would recommend De Mar's for a quick meal, but I would not recommend it for a family breakfast. Here are some pros and cons of De Mar's Family Restaurant: **Pros:** * Large menu with a variety of options * Friendly and attentive service * Affordable prices **Cons:** * Fruit is not fresh * Slot machines inside the restaurant * Can be crowded during peak hours Overall, I would give De Mar's Family Restaurant a 3 out of 5 stars. It is a good option for a quick meal, but I would not recommend it for a family breakfast.

Very nice, casual place with good food. Biscuits were fresh and pecan rolls were perfect. Also, I ordered 2 eggs and got 3 instead(yay). My friend also got 6 eggs instead of 4 brought to him. Very clean and nice bathrooms. No complaints.

Cream of mushroom soup is good. Home made soups are good. The breaded tenderloin sandwich with mashed potatoes was good. Showed up a bit weird though. The breaded tenderloin was on top of the bread with mashed potatoes and gravy to the side. The entire dish was then covered in brown gravy. There was no way possible to make a sandwich, but I cut it all up together and ate it as a mix. It was still good.

The server at the front Alex(older lady) that the name she gave me was horrible. I asked for condiments that should have came with a to go order and she told me no it doesn’t. When I know for sure they usually give it. I asked for a manager she said they wasn’t there, and she was in charge, but attitude was rude towards blacks. My total was $20.43, she gave me $20 and told me she couldn’t give me the .43 because that’s that the machine charged me, but I would’ve been an ignorant black lady to go up side her head. I walked off, but would love to speak to higher management, because she is terrible.

Nice dine in family restaurant with all the regular menu items. Good food for the price. My meal was patty melt, fries, and soup all was good and freshly made. Fries tasted like the oil was recently changed which is a plus. I would recommend this location if you wanted to sit down with your family.

Food was hot, tasty, full of flavor, order correct. Our waitress was friendly, paid attention to what we wanted and answered our questions, checked kn us during the meal, paid attention to when our drinks were low & git us boxes & bags for our leftovers. The buyer was quick & got the dirty dishes out of our way, & she was friendly.

I always enjoy the food here, usually go for one of the specials, this last time was battered fish with Mac and cheese on the side. The fact that they batter it there made it fantastic (come on now, most fish and chips at a restaurant are dumped from frozen into the fryer) Not here! Great prices, friendly waitresses, and can always find something off the specials board. If you're in the area and hungry, it's a no brainer 🧠

Very authentic diner on the south side of Chicago. I enjoyed my steak and eggs (cooked exactly at I wanted), medium with 2 over easy eggs. My daughter had pancakes. They were really good. Great texture (not doughy). And they had all day breakfast...Winning!

Dined on a Sunday during lunch with a large group. Approximately 25 people including a few children. We showed up totally unexpected due to another restaurant not being able to accommodate a large group. My first experience st this establishment. A bit of chaos. A few orders were wrong. A few orders were not complete. The wait staff was very very friendly. I will return to patronize them with just one or two people. Food was good.

One star is for the waitress! I ordered a Riley steak breakfast w/ hashbrowns and 2 eggs for 16.95. When I opened that 0late of food I was flabbergasted! The steak was 2oz which I had weight. I took it back to be told all the steaks come in that size. The price need to match! I have never seen anything like it. I'm new to the neighborhood and I will never service this place. Than the lady was rude cause I asked her who is paying 16.95 as a satisfied customer for a steak that looks gross and 2oz!

Live near this restaurant so decided to take my family here for breakfast and we had a very pleasant experience. The food was tasty, the service was excellent, the environment was nice and clean but dated and the prices were reasonable. My only complaint is that I had to send our eggs back because they were runny and I told the waitress scrambled hard but she took them back and returned shortly with them done more to my liking. This is a nice family restaurant that I would recommend to family and friends.

I haven't had a place yet that compares to their waffles. They're so delicious, just the right amount of crunchy and soft and the amount of butter is great too- you don't even need to add extra(unless you love butter) I've eaten at Dr mar's since I was little and the food is still as great as it was back then. (If interested, I had the pecan waffles) I also have the biscuits in gravy-they were very flavorful!

We enjoyed a delicious breakfast and the place was very clean and the owner and waitresses were very friendly! One of the customers was very nice and he payed for our food that totaled $25.64! Not only did he make our day, believe it or not one of the other guys with him gave us $40.00 more dollars and bought us lunch. What a blessing from our God, Jehovah!

My first time here for my son’s bday. It was close to his house so we decided to give them a try. Food was not good and they charged us for a small plastic salad dressing carry out. Staff was pleasant but I wouldn’t recommend overpriced and we didn’t enjoy our meal.

Tried this place out on a whim. Turned out to be a great move. The ambiance had an old school diner feel, which I really loved. The food was very good. The portion was very filling, so I don't think you'll walk away feeling hungry. Liz was my server, and she was outstanding. Checked on you at the right time and was incredibly professional. If you're looking for a cozy place to eat, give this place a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

This restaurant in Blue Island Illinois has been around for a long long time. I went there cuz I had an urge for a dogwood burger. It's too hamburger patties with bacon and cheese and lettuce and ketchup and mustard and it's big and it was so good. And on Mondays they've got this cream of potato soup which is fantastic. I would recommend this place to anybody if you're in Blue Island. And it's very accessible by car or bus.
