Walking in I knew I had found a pretty special hole in the wall. The initial energy that hits you has you feeling as comfortable as any regular just in for their usual. The staff was incredibly friendly, and educated me on a load of facts on the blues and the artists that helped build it into the beautiful tool of expression it is today. Without question you'll be in caffeinated heaven at the halfway point of your first sip. Couple it with a relaxing view of a quaint downtown neighborhood, and you've got the perfect ingredients for your new coffee spot. ☕ CHEERS!! ☕

This place is AWESOME. The baristas, owner, and overall vibes of this place cannot be beat. They worked with me last minute to help on a work task, and they were the best in helping me achieve my goal. Highly highly recommend!! 😊

Dark Matter has been a staple of my coffee life since they opened back in Chicago in the mid 2000s. Electric Mud is located in Bucktown and Chocolate City is EVERYTHING! It’s the best ice coffee I’ve had to date. They even sell it in growlers to go. Their merchandise features artist. And they ship their coffee across the US. I’ve purchased closing gifts for real estate clients and their coffee is always a hit!

Leave one of the best places in Bucktown for coffee. I love stopping over here for their on tap brews. Always good for a grab and go when you are in West Bucktown or Bucktown. The staff is awesome. This is one of my favorites.

I love trying unique drinks and decided to try a special latte but I can’t remember the name! I know it had sage in it. It was very subtle and smooth. A very tasty drink for fall! You can order ahead from their app for faster service.

Always glad to have a dark matter within walking distance. Has a lot of good stuff on hand including merchandise, beans, and both pastries and hot items along with their coffee. Decor is nice and I've always liked how each dark matter location feels like it's own unique thing. If you're nearby this is definitely one you should be stopping at!

The guy who attended me was super sweet! He recommended me the Dolor de Oro drink. It was very smooth and not too sweet either. Loveeee the decor

Favorite coffee shop in the city, Rosemary and the rest of the staff are as good as it gets. I used to walk past and go to Starbucks but now after the friendly staff and great service this is where I get my coffee every morning.

Outstanding coffee, always delivers. Big fan of their Cafe Tola empanadas & tacos. The pastry options are yummy. Their baristas are awesome! This is my go-to neighborhood coffee shop.

Love this spot. The staff makes me feel like I’m walking into Cheers, where everybody knows your name; a real local feel. The Mayan mocha rocks and the breakfast tacos are fire. The blues decor and sounds are also vibey. There were a few solid tables available to work at in the morning into the afternoon and I didn’t feel rushed out on a Wednesday when I came on two occasions.

Electric Mud Coffee Bar, located just off of the Western "L" stop in Bucktown, is a must-visit spot for coffee lovers seeking a cozy, artistic, and friendly atmosphere. As a Dark Matter Coffee location, it stands out with its top-notch staff and incredible music selection, which perfectly complements the eye-catching, wacky murals that adorn its walls. This unique space defies the cookie-cutter coffee shop aesthetic, offering a refreshing alternative to Pinterest-inspired, overdone marketing ploys. During my visit, I enjoyed a 12oz mocha oat milk latte alongside a glazed donut – the perfect treat for a productive work session on my laptop. While the cafe is on the smaller side, offering around 7 tables with 2-3 seats each, I had no trouble finding a spot and felt right at home. So, if you're on the lookout for a one-of-a-kind, anti-corporate coffee experience in Bucktown, be sure to drop by Electric Mud Coffee Bar – you won't be disappointed! ◽️◾️◾️◽️◽️◽️◽️◾️◽️◾️◾️◽️◾️◽️◾️◽️◽️◾️◾️◽️◽️◾️◽️◾️ ◽️◽️◾️◽️◽️◾️◽️◾️

Love this place! The coffee is fire. They are so friendly too which truly makes such a difference, especially before you’ve had your coffee in the AM . . .

Mollie is the best and so accommodating. She taught me about coffee making techniques when the shop was slower, and the team is always efficient when it’s busy. This is our favorite coffee shop for sure.

This is a nice little in and out coffee shop. The product is good but of course, high priced. Wouldn’t say the pastries are anything to brag on and there’s not a lot of seating, but if all you really want is a very good cup of coffee, this is a decent spot for you.

Always 5 stars, easily top of the list of coffee places in chi. I love the Dark Matter brand and frequented Meddle almost daily before moving neighborhoods(open up in printers row please)! My only complaint was that service at this location was very slow compared to the usually speedy service at Meddle, where they put emphasis on "espresso only" orders so that its timely and fresh, preparing them even before or during more complex drink orders, even those placed prior to "espresso only" orders. Or maybe that's just Meddle and I was spoiled there. 😊 Observational query: Why does it take like 40 seconds to finish a card transaction on any of Dark Matters POS system?

Best coffee shop in the area. The baristas are incredibly nice, the pastries are always fresh and fantastic, hot food is always solid, and can’t go wrong getting Dark Matter made well. Having moved to Chicago in the past year coming from a place with very few local coffee spots, I feel so lucky to have Electric Mud around the corner.

Very good coffee - both hot and cold brew/nitro. Selection of beans is also good. Bean quality for at home us seems to be on point (so far). Thanks to Angel O (Angelo?) for grinding a bag to suit my AeroPress on my first visit. Kept me coming back for the 2 weeks of my stay.

Unfortunately quality has gone downhill. I have received cold to lukewarm cappuccinos on multiple occasions. When I request it "extra hot" to try to get reasonably warm coffee, the barista just adds another cup as insulation.... this doesn't fix the problem of serving lukewarm coffee. Used to love coming here but will not be ordering coffee here ever again, as it's clearly a pattern and I'll never receive an actually warm cappuccino from here.

Love stopping in here for ground coffee when I'm in town from Ohio. A Love Supreme is my fav...and I always forget...you get a free cup of coffee with your purchase!!

Over rated, coffee is average, staff is either super cool, or too hipster to be bothered by a simpleton like me.

Really great coffee, great vibe and look of the place itself. Also! They have an option of soy milk along with the regular half and half, which is a very kind thought, which other places should have. They also have really fun merch for coffee and things for it. And hot sauce, too. Definitely recommend.

Great coffee with a funky atmosphere, I'll definitely be dropping back in on when I'm in the area next time.

Very friendly staff and cool interior. The pourover was huge (16oz). There isn't a whole lot of seating in here, but I suspect that most people who frequent this place order coffee to go. This coffee shop has a lot going for it, but relative to my own tastes it wasn't quite what I was looking for. For many others though, I'm sure this would be a wonderful spot to visit! Very cool shop, and I'm glad that I tried it while in Chicago.

Very slow. Good coffee though. Put you on the spot to tip basically forced to tip for already expensive coffee

Awesome place! The location is great, the decor is amazing and the lattes are pretty good! Maybe a bit too sweet for my taste but that doesn't make them bad. So, if you feel like having a nice sweet latte beverage, this is your place to go

A great place to chill out! Every time I visit this coffee shop, I feel a different kind of comfort. I am a huge lover of their icy mocha. It is well worth your time to visit this location, whether alone or with friends and family. No one can compete with their excellent client service, good coffee, and reasonable prices. Strongly advised!
