We need more places like this! You can go on a walk, run, or even kayak the Salt Creek. I did a loop starting from the mill, crossing the Flat bridge and then taking a right to continue along the opposite side of the creek. It was absolutely beautiful especially with the late fall colors. The mill and the waterfalls are so pretty. If you’re interested, you can visit all four levels of the mill building and learn about a lot of things. There is plenty of parking all around this place.

My husband and I love this walking trail with the river run-off "waterfall". It is so peaceful. So many places for you to sit, relax, recalibrate. We go here often to enjoy the scenery as it changes with the seasons. It most beautiful in the Fall. The walking path is nice, you can ride your bike, run or just take a nice stroll.

I did not actually go into Graue Mill but I had a grand time hiking around it. I learned that this mill was a stop on the underground railroad for slaves to rest/eat before continuing their pursuit of freedom by traveling north. What a cool historical site.

Husband found this on internet. Wonderful place for walk, beauty in nature and historial significance. A 13,000 year old mammoth lives here that was discovered in local farm. Very much a lovely family/individual outing to help appreciate the beauty around! Thrilled to find!

An amazing piece of history and many people’s first field schools field trips here too in and around Chicagoland. Not just mill in its time, but a part of the Underground Railroads history as well. Lots more to explore here and find more fun with me too across social @thechicagomom and on our page TheChicagoMom.com

Beautiful Place, full of Nature, tranquility, great place to meditate by the River and waterfall, HOWEVER, when I went inside the museum, mean old lady with no manners to say Hi or welcome can I help you? No, right away when we turned to the gift shop she said with an attitude can I help you, like as if she got bothered seeing hispanics walking in, what a way to put a person at the front to represent the museum.

Cute, little historic place to visit. Good representation of the mill operation from that period. Good finishing spot as well, especially for kids, able to catch smaller guys every couple minutes or so. Gorgeous place to visit and hang out.

My first time there for a dual high school and 8th grade graduation party. It was wonderful, love the historical beauty of it and it was simply a perfect time! Thank you!

Only decent fishing at best. Usually just really tiny bluegill & the water smells like sewage. But be very wary of the creatures lurking in the depths...creatures of the ancient world await below- the Balrogs of the Deep. After Sauron, Balrogs were the most powerful and most terrifying of his servants. They are fire spirits, who shroud themselves in shadow, darkness, and flame. Most of the Balrogs died in the Great Battle, but a few survived by hiding in the depths...and so they linger on, in Salt Creek...

We were here for a scout activity. You can park on Spring road or the parking lot on the East side of the Mill across the street where some additional structures are. The mill was open, the other structures were not. The mill is three stories but not very spacious on each floor with each floor having exhibits. There is a basement but there was no access to the public. The scouts stayed for the demonstration and the guide did a great job of keeping their attention and getting them involved. The first floor is where they do the demonstration and has a gift shop with two stairways leading up to the second floor where there are exhibits, some with audio playback, and another set of stairs going up to the third floor and additional exhibits. It's not a huge place so it can be a bit tight if there are a lot of people or a group like ours visiting. No washroom but there is a port-a-potty outside and I believe one back at the parking lot.

Historical working Mill from 1852, preserved mill with a complete educational tie in for everyone. Learn how to mill corn, wheat, flax and more as you watch the process to mill grains by hand, by hand crank, and a mill stone. Learn about the history behind the mill, the owner, the underground railroad road, President Lincoln visiting the mill, and more. View all 4 levels and the outside to this working Mill: the basement shows the underground railroad artifacts and time pieces from the 1850s, a giant millstone and more. The first floor shows how to mill grain and gift shop, 2nd floor you learn how to weave thread with a historical working weaving machine done by hand and foot plus other neat artifacts, and the 3rd floor you see what a general store would have looked like, a child's bedroom, the kitchen and a general room in a home in the 1850s. Also learn how to spin wool to turn it into thread. The outside of the mill you can walk around and view the garden that is planted with grains from that era to be milled, learn about the handmade bricks and the glass and the white oak timbers inside the mill as well as the giant water wheel that powered the mill. Such an excellent and awesome learning experience for my family! We loved it and hope to visit again!

It's a beautiful place and a reminder of the hard working roots of the area. There's a walking path along the creek through the woods to take in the views.

Really enjoyed taking the kids here! They had a lot of fun by the waterfall searching for crayfish, frogs, and fish. I had to basically drag them out because they were having so much fun. Definitely will be visiting again and excited to learn more about the history and the Mill!

Great place with rich history. I loved the area outside. The Nature center is a short walk/drive away. I had a great time with the kids. Close to major streets and highways.

Wonderful historic place to visit and learn. Very little has changed in the last 50 years that I've been visiting but the site is well maintained and they are trying to make it even better. The grounds are beautiful to walk and the staff are pleasant, friendly, and especially helpful answering questions and interacting during the mill demonstration.

My niece recently got married here and not only was it a perfect June day weather wise, the grounds were so simple, yet gorgeous. The staff made it so accommodating and I can't say enough about how wonderful that ceremony was.

Our family loves walking around the mill and watching the animals around the dam. As a child, I used to love finding and catching crayfish under the rocks on the lower dam shore and my daughter loves it now too. The mill museum is also a great place to show kids how grains were milled in the past and help them connect how foods like bread get to the table. Personally, I loved the Civil War camp reenactments the most. The Union Soldiers would stay in character many times and made for a very entertaining time, almost making me feel like I was there in the early 1860s.I really hope the county decides to preserve the dam.
