Interesting experience! 1980s themed exhibit! Lots of reading, but some hands on experiences like playing Mario on a Nintendo!

Best hostess ever, Nancy was so welcoming and explained the exhibit with so much knowledge about the pieces, the artists and the background. She made it all come to life for us and relatable.

I have a lot of great memories of coming to this little museum. It's not usually crowded and it's a nice quiet place to enjoy the artwork (and get out of the heat in the summer--I am not ashamed to admit I've done this) I'm glad the town was able to work it out with the state to keep it operating. Long live the state museum! Since the state budget crisis, the hours of the museum have changed! They're only open 9am-5pm W, Th, Fri, and 12pm-5pm on Sat & Sun. Museum is closed on Mon & Tues. This is direct from their facebook page.

Sad. I was looking for the historical museum about the I&M canal, this is what they gave me. It had been located in the actual house that building the canal was managed from. When I volunteered there I use to get chills thinking I was standing where Abraham Lincoln stood at times when he'd come checking on progress. They were fighting then to keep the house alive. They must of lost

Outstanding exhibit of Philip Juras’ Prairie Paintings! His paintings are so realistic and beautifully rendered that at first glance I thought they were photographs! The paintings’ accompanying descriptions share the artist’s first impressions of experiencing these endangered prairies. Museum Docent and representative Nancy offers a warm a welcome and full of captivating knowledge about the featured artist! Highly recommend!

The Philip Juras exhibit was amazing! So amazing that I went back a second time to view it. Unfortunately, on the second day that I went, the museum was setting up for a special function for the evening. The curators and set up people were unbelievably loud and spoiled what should have been an enjoyable experience. I think that in the future they should either wait til the museum closes for the day to set up or close it early.

I always learn something! The display now is unusual. Things made out of prison bars, jewelry, glass, etc. It's small enough to read everything &checkout the story about the wardens wife , amazing. It's there until Jan. Or Feb. Then it goes to Springfield. Joliet prison leftovers, the artists were given time to go in and salvage whatever they could and make it art!

My father Mark Nelson and I were the featured exhibit here at the Illinois State Museum. The exibit was titled art made in and around the Illinois and Michigan Canal. Back in the 1990's the canal was dredged to deepen the I&M and they put all the mud on the side of the canal. Well after a major rain my dad and me started finding Old Old bottles all the way to the 1860s. Medicine bottles, whiskey bottles, milk, beer, pop and wine bottles. I never thought that collecting bottles with my dad would be displayed in a State Museum! We had the time of our lifes finding them. It was a daily treasure hunt i will never forget. Also Now my collection has been featured in an art exhibit at a historical museum right next to the same Canal that is a great part of my childhood memories with my Father. Thank you John and Nancy for making our dreams come true!

👍👍 Best haunted house I’ve ever been to! We upgraded to VIP for a shorter wait time which was totally worth it. The whole experience in total was about 45 minutes including the graveyard, which was probably my favorite part! The actors were amazing and very dedicated to their roles. My husband and I ha...
