It was a lovely evening! We stop by the natural preserve center with the children and had so much fun. It’s perfect for any age. At the end the place manager had above talk about the importance of conserving and maintaining the green , preserving natural places for the animals to live. 👌😍

The Little Red Schoolhouse is a terrific place to go no matter your age. There are great nature trails to explore, a fantastic nature center with lots of animals to observe, and incredibly helpful staff that is excited to educate you. There is an outdoor and indoor learning area for littles and so much to observe for all ages. Be sure to check out the original school house as well for some more to observe and learn about the history of the area. Just a heads up, no dogs allowed on the trails.

Excellent hiking trails. Fall leaves were everywhere. Great staff, clean restrooms, limited parking due to Covid restrictions. They're open 10 to 4pm.

This nature center is really cool! It has a main building with nice restrooms and sitting area with books for kids and a chalk board. There is cool taxidermy on display as well as some live animals such as snakes and spiders. There is an old red school with other old items on display from past times. The trails are really nice and well marked. There were birds everywhere as well as some coyotes, which is why you can bring your dogs. I had a great time!

Nice place to bring the family. They have a children's area with books, a large chalkboard, a table with sensory items, aquariums with fish and turtles. Clean restrooms, that include women's, men's and family rooms. Lots of benches to enjoy the outdoors, lots of trails and plenty of parking. No Admission Fee.

I went toady with my 2 year old. We loved the place. I can only imagine how beautiful this place would be during spring and fall times. Plenty of activities for kids and adults. Also perfect indoor area during winter . Animal viewing was my daughter’s favorite part of the visit . Also there was a small playground area that included books , puzzles , chalkboard .

I went there on a field trip with Argo Community High School. We walked around to see the different parts of the forest and we talked about populations living in the community of the forest. Our tour guide was very nice and friendly. I might go there to volunteer when it's a bit colder.

The Little Red School House Nature Center and the surrounding Palos Forest Preserves are beautiful natural areas which can be accessed from the city of Chicago in less than 45 minutes. We have been visiting the area since the 80s and we have never grown tired of it. In this time of COVID it becomes our go place. The natural center is wonderful but unfortunately it is closed during the pandemic. The trails in the whole Palos area are however accessible. Here the trails are on glacial moraines so they have ups and downs but never too steep. The area can be enjoyed every season. We just went on a November day and took the black oak trail behind the nature center. It was just beautiful. The oak trees turned different shades of yellow, brown, purple. Leaves dropping leisurely in the breeze. The prairie grasses were shimmering golden in the sun. It was a wonderful relief from sheltering in place. In the winter the area offers great cross country skiing, snow shoeing, and toboggan opportunities. I am just thankful that the forefathers of chicago had the foresight to set aside tracks of natural areas for protection.

I 100% love of this place and I pray to God that he lets me go back. The inside of I think it's called the little Greenhouse don't quote me on that though where they have the exhibits and stuff and the my favorite snapping turtles which are so beautiful. But if you love nature you want to get out and just breathe the Clean Air see God's creation I would 100% recommend this place and if you go you're going to go back!

I've been coming here for many years to enjoy the scenic nature trails. A variety of Wildlife and plant life to enjoy. There is an educational Nature Center that is great for families and kids as well as free educational programs such as the monthly astronomy program that takes place April through October. This is a great place for nature photography as well.

I'm sure I would have given a higher rating if we had been able to see everything. We went to check out the Little Red School house and discovered it was closed on Fridays - and of course we went on a Friday - due to deep cleaning the center, and because most schools and camps do their field trips Monday thru Thursday. We were able to walk on the paths. The main building was only open for restroom use. There was a play area for kids and the trails were available to walk on. We loved the giant chair and seeing the snakes was exciting! We went down and saw the lake with thousands of water lilies which was beautiful. We also discovered pets are not allowed at all on the property so our dog stayed in the car.

The nature center is fantastic and has programing for kids of all ages and ASL programing. There are a variety of hiking trails that are stroller friendly. Stick to the trails because Poison Ivy is prevalent but after a few steps you surrounded by nature.

Little Red School House has been a tradition in our family for many years. The conservatory is awesome, too bad it's not open at the moment because of the pandemic. It's a nice small trail of a little over a mile, anyone can walk this, it's very accessable.

Great for taking littles to run with a short loop or longer trails depending on what you're up for that day. It also has a fun natural play area.

  • 5/5 Kristen S. 3 years ago on Google
Great place to enjoy, especially for kids. Trails are easy enough to get the little ones used to walking and fun things can be seen along the way. When my child was younger they ran some great programs/classes perfect for the target age. As mine gets older he still loves going to many of the events.
