It's not Indian food redefined, it's basically a Indian food twisted badly because the food does not have a Indian flavor or authenticity at all. Except for the lamb chops, pretty much everything is a disaster. Expensive to the core for below average food. Not worth at all.

We have been working hard to support the local area restaurants and have been regularly ordering from Kama Bistro and could not be more upset about our experience tonight but cannot imagine we will EVER go there again. We placed our order at 6:20 on-line and showed up at 7:20 to pick it up the time that it was to be ready. We were told they needed another 15 minutes to have it ready. We patiently waited in the car and at 8:00 we were told they lost our order and it would be ready in another 45 to 50 minutes and we should just sit in our car and wait and they would rush the order for us. We said we were not going to wait for it and asked to cancel the order. The manager said they would not cancel it as we had placed it and said we could not talk with the owner. The manager said she did not have the authority to cancel our order and she was not sure IF the owner would refund us our $75 order. UNACCEPTABLE that we were told they were not sure if we would be refunded and hopefully the owner would call us in a few days. We understand orders get lost and places are busy but do the right thing and refund us. This was not our mistake and we are hungry.

Did not receive all items we ordered. We requested a refund. Instead of refund, charged a second time for the cost of the entire meal.

We went in a large group and ordered a lot of food. Honestly, we only liked the dal makhani. Other dishes were very average. Service was very good but the servers were spread out among many tables so we had to flag to get our server's attention. One interesting thing is that there was no music playing. I'm not sure why but it made the ambience wierd. All we heard is people talking. Prices are quite high so it's normal to expect more from restaurants like these that have high review and some hype to them. There's definitely room for improvement:)

Highly recommended for non veg. Lamb/Chicken Tandoori is a must try. Desert was good too. Non spicy and flavorful. I'd say It's Americanized* Indian food.

Extremely disappointed by the quantity and price of food. The taste was good and I was hungry that's why I gave 3 stars else my initial thoughts were to give them almost 1 star. My recommendation is that you can find Indian restaurants with much better deals and also more options in terms of cuisine, quality of food, Quantity and pricing at places like Lombard, Naperville and Schaumburg.

Overpriced. Small portions. And not as tasty as other Indian restaurants. Service is not all that great.

Great service and nice ambiance ... and the food was delish. The overhead music was enjoyable. Overall I recommend this restaurant.

Everything made from scratch? I am in-today, tomorrow and always!🤤 I loved the fresh food concept, ambiance, and service. Nothing can be any better. Everything is made on order so you can select your protein, that’s a win win for a vegetarian like me. Absolutely loved a cute gesture by the servers - complementary dessert on our anniversary. I am going back again and again and again. 5 ⭐️ Would also like to add, parking around this restaurant is a bit difficult. So plan ahead. :)

First time here as this was a place my daughter recommended Being from NJ, I was kind of skeptical because Chicago is not known for Indian food. Decor is nice. We were greeted by the hostess. Our waitress Rachel was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. She made great suggestions from the menu and we loved everything we ordered. When we visit again, we will definitely be back.

Upscale Indian restaurant just steps off of the Metra. I’ve never had a bad thing here. It has a darker, swanky ambiance with some elegant touches but you can still feel fine walking in in a pair of jeans. The service is top notch, the portions are perfect, and their non-alcoholic drink selection is wonderful.

The place is cute and has a nice vibe. Our waitress was very nice and helped us pick out everything we ordered. The curries ( Lamb Roganjosh & chicken kadai) and appetizers (crispy potatoes, Barbacoa tacos) were very good. But the naan was soooo disappointing. It was tough and dry instead of soft and fluffy. We also ordered mocktails that were tasty but very expensive and small. $8 for probably 2 large gulps.

Although not quite five-star, the food at this Indian restaurant is definitely good. From flavorful curries, innovative cocktails to aromatic starters, there's something to satisfy your cravings. The ambiance adds to the overall dining experience, making it worth a visit.

So yummy!! Ordered the crispy chili potatoes which were spicy but so delicious. Lamb roganjosh, basmati rice, Aloo Gobi. Mixed chicken and mixed lamb grill. SO FIRE. Will be returning 100%. Especially after the service we received from Daisy. She was so sweet & we were fasting so she brought us dates. The food came out late (they were very busy & food was bussin’) and she even comped us a free dessert. Thank you Daisy!

My experience here was AMAZING! I dined in for Chicago Restaurant Week. My partner has never tried Indian food so I felt this high-end, Americanized version would be a great first spot for him. He was blown away! Our cocktails were amazing, each of the 6 dishes we ordered was delicious. Plus, even though it was packed on a Friday night and there was a small wait on food, our server was super attentive and friendly. I can’t wait to visit again and try more of the menu!

We were a group of 5 people and came here on a Friday night. We made reservations in advance and were seated promptly on arrival. We had 2 vegetarians in our group. We ordered samosas, chili chicken and crispy chilling potatoes for appetizers and a rooibis tea, mango lassi and a few cocktails to start us off. The chili chicken tasted great but it wasn’t really what you’d call as chili chicken in India. The samosas and crispy chili potatoes were good. All the drinks were all pretty decent too. For mains we had a malai kofta, tandoori grilled chicken, lamb nihari, dal makhani, vegetable pulao and raita. We also had a garlic naan and pudina paratha. All in all we knew this was a lot of food for 5 people but we were prepared to take home leftovers. The tandoori grilled chicken had raving reviews from all those who had it in our group. The malai kofta and dal were decent and so was the pudina paratha and pulao. The disappointments were the lamb nihari and garlic naan. The nihari wasn’t really a nihari and didn’t taste like one and the garlic naan wasn’t flavored very well and seemed very dry. The prices are on the higher end but the portion sizes are pretty big too. A pretty decent Indian restaurant by chicago standards and would definitely recommend you to check it out.

So delicious. I usually order a side or appetizer but it's portioned big enough like 1 meal for me. I never skip the Samosas 😋 and the cocktail flight deal on Thursdays is fun because they have a really creative cocktail menu that I would have a hard time choosing one!

Loved this place. It’s contemporary Indian cuisine with amazing food. We went on Valentine’s Day and their special 3 course menu was amazing. We ordered Roasted Cauliflower with walnuts, Chicken Tikka, Mixed Chicken Grill (Kheema, Tandoor and tikka), Rojanghosh Chicken and lastly Rose Lychee Mousse. This was the best Valentine’s Day dinner we’ve had. Loved the Cauliflower and Lychee Moussee

Great Indian food and you have to get it spicy. My go to spot. Start with the samosa then the chicken tikka and of course the butter naan. Wash it down with a nice thick mango Lassi.

Had high hopes after seeing all the good reviews. Unfortunately, it seems like the quality has declined in recent years. Positives: Waitstaff was friendly and the atmosphere was nice. I liked the nonalcoholic cocktail I ordered. Prices were a bit on the high end, but still reasonable for a nice dinner and drinks: around $80 (plus tip) for two people to have a shared appetizer, one drink per person, and one entree per person. Negatives: Dishes on the table were dirty, with crumbs and grease on them. Alcoholic beverages were overly syrupy. Kitchen forgot to start our order. When the appetizer finally came out, the samosas were freshly cooked, but filling was basically bland brown mashed potatoes. The basmathi rice that came with the entree was overcoooked and mushy. Makhani was overpoweringly sweet, with very little spice, and for some unknown reason had a tiny freeze-dried tomato slice as a garnish. The lamb chunks in the makhani sauce were somehow dry and also overcooked.

Have dined here a few times now over the years. The food quality has ranged from decent to very good. Cocktails are creative and excellent. Speed of food after ordering is a bit too good... We would have gladly waited a bit more for better execution in quality -considering what they charge. Also, the proportion of chutney served with the dishes is scant. People who enjoy/ make Indian food will also notice the little things like: onions accompanying the paneer appetizer should be grilled raw, don't use picked onions. We had asked for spicy mains but were still served mild dishes. Hoping our next visit is better

Let me start this off by saying I don’t usually eat much Indian food. But this place hands down takes the crown. The flavors are layered with depth. Food was presented beautifully i almost didn’t want want to ruin it by sticking my fork in it. The restaurant itself had a great atmosphere, not too loud and not too quiet. The decor was really elegant. I think it’s a perfect place for casual dining and special nights. I left kinda sad because I wasn’t going to experience those first bites and sips again for the first time. I can’t wait to come back again and try more items. Im a meat eater; but I wanted to take a moment to highlight the beautifully executed vegetarian dishes I tried. The daal and the cauliflower are definitely going to be ordered again. The daal has a slight kick to it but the blend of spices in it give your insides a warm hug. The cauliflower was bursting with flavor with all of the components that were accompanying it, I had this dinner two nights ago and I’m still thinking about it.

I admire this spot! They have first-rate dishes, their menu is rich, The chief cook in that place is an expert, I enjoy very much eating all their dishes. The food is always fresh, the service towards the clients is agreeable. I often go to this restaurant and I was never disappointed. Highly recommended.

Full disclosure, we never even got to the point of eating food. So this review isn’t based on that. My partner and I went looking forward to trying a new place. We were “greeted” at the front door by an employee (not sure what his position was) and we asked if there were seats inside. After taking his time LOOKING US UP AND DOWN, he said to come in. We automatically felt judged and wondered if we weren’t dressed appropriately (we were both dressed in shorts and t-shirts, having a casual and comfy day). Not a great way to make me feel comfortable coming into a restaurant. Then the waitress arrives at our table and lets us know there will be a $4 sanitation fee to clean when we leave. I’m sorry??? Were the tables not sanitized pre-Covid??? I’ve worked in the service industry and know that tables are (at least should be) sanitized between each party. We likely won’t be back.

I don't know when I've had such perfectly prepared Indian food I'm a restaurant. They grind their spices fresh, everything is prepared to order, they accommodate dietary requirements, and they have a great bar! There is not one thing about this experience that wasn't wonderful, and I'm picky!

Food was amazing. Definitely try Ghee cauliflower. Truly delicious. While some desserts were amazing and very well thought through some were still lacking flare. But overall truly unique and blissful experience.

This restaurant charged us EXTRA FEE for sanitizing tables!!! Aren't restaurants supposed to clean and sanitize tables regardless of COVID? As if big bucks for small portions wasn't enough, they are charging extra for what they should be doing anyway! Food and service was average, contrary to the reviews. We left very disappointed and we don't recommend this place. We refuse to feed their greed.

Great food. Tasty..Great ambiance. Located in heart of downtown lagrange. Wish they offered buffet for lunch. Loved how they are into holidays. They are having awesome Halloween party. Sounds like fun place to go to on holidays. The chicken dishes were succulent unlike some Indian places I've been to where their chicken was very dry. Great job Kama.. cute bistro

They serve a lot of awesome dishes.. Worth trying. Surprisingly good fusion preps. But the best is still a cliche.. SAMOSA. Or may be its my personal bias.

Only place I found Indian fusion. Loved the tikka, prawns molley! Lamp tacos was absolutely fantastic, must try! Expected black pepper masala to be little different, should say was little disappointed. Cocktails were different, luckily not just sweet syrup. Overall if you love Indian fusion food which has not lost its soul, I would highly recommend this place.

  • 5/5 Maureen M. 3 years ago on Google
I have no words for how good the food is - inspired, innovative, crave worthy, amazing. I've had the sea bass, crispy chili potatoes, and sweet potatoes - twice now because they were so good the first time but hope to set those aside next time because there are several items that look tempting. And I thought I didn't especially like Indian food.

We were looking forward to a nice lunch and a glass of wine until we were told every table has a $5.00 sanitation fee. What?? Help me understand.......if I want to eat on a sanitized table with sanitized utensils and my food is prepared in a sanitized kitchen I have to pay? Isn't that automatic when you're in the food industry? I wonder what the department of health is going to think of this? We'll soon find out!

We ordered takeout. Food was ready ahead of schedule and I received a text when the food was ready. the staff was at the door ready to safely hand over the food... very organized! Not to mention the food was fantastic, hands down probably one of the best Indian restaurants in the suburbs. Sauces were flavorful and the meat was cooked perfectly. Would definitely order again.

This restaurant is in the one of the few places that serves Indian fusion in the greater Chicago area. It's actually located in downtown LaGrange and an absolute go to spot when I make a visit to Chi town. The dishes are beyond unique with blends of flavors and spices you wouldn't even imagine to combine, but very obvious the chef has a mastered skill. The menu changes sporadically, keeping their top sellers in place, but with additions of special dishes that are seasonal. My go to dish is the paneer tikka masala with garlic naan. All their dishes and drinks have never been disappointing however, their mango lassi could use a slight upgrade 0 there's just some classics you don't try and mess with fusing. Apart from the food, the customer service is superb. From the moment I step out of my car, I get a warm greeting from valet services, with the hostess at the front door waiting to take down my name. This place is always crowded on the weekends, particularly Saturdays, but they have a bar where you can enjoy a nice cocktail or two while waiting to be seated.

I've been in the Chicagoland area for five years and have yet to find Indian cuisine that's not been bagged Sysco style food warmed up and slopped onto plates. Kama Bistro is the opposite. The sauces are outstanding and every item we've eaten is next level. Enjoy!

The vibes and interior is too good. Indian cuisine in Bistro concept is a decent thing to have in USA. Taste wise food was also good, if you like spicy don't forget to let them know seperately to make it spicy. Need to work on menu to provide more options. May be due to Corona they might have limited options.

This was our second time. Both were excellent experiences. I recommend dining in for the ambiance and great service. Cocktails are delicious, maybe a little pricey. All the food we had was incredible. We definitely recommend the lobster bisque.

This bistro may be a fit for the patrons exploring Indian cuisine 101 because the "modern" seem to be taking shortcuts. Ordered the BASICS for lunch and it WAS DISAPPOINTING. A drastic change from our pre-COVID visit and it is possible there's been a change in ownership. * Papadum tasted stale, perhaps the chickpeas were mixed with other ingredients(?) because it was not crispy or fragrant. ** The Chicken Tikka Masala was missing several spices and tasted more like Vindaloo without the creamy texture. ***Where was the ginger and garlic in the Saag Paneer? The primary reason that my review is not a one star is because of the cocktail menu and the attentive wait staff. The ambience is dark and during the brighter non-winter months, most patrons obviously opted for the few available window seating facing the street.

What an amazing staff. My mom can be a bit much to handle which can stress me out when going out to eat with her but the staff and owner were incredibly kind. My dad ordered the lamb grill and I’ve never seen him happier with his food. The tikka chicken was absolutely delicious with good size portions. We all left incredibly happy!

Best Indian food I have ever had! My family and I used to go to this Indian restaurant called Taj Mahal and they were amazing. Sadly, they ran out of business. So my family and I started to go to Kama Bistro and we absolutely love it! I also love Chasing Venus - it is my favorite wine!

What a great spot for fresh Indian food. Loved the vibe, our server was fantastic. Food came our quickly and everything we tried was delicious. Have to try the specialty cocktails as well, they were really impressive. Save room for the bourbon gulab jamun

Kama Bistro is an exceptional restaurant that offers some of the best food and dining experiences that I have ever encountered. The food is simply outstanding, featuring a range of authentic Indian dishes that are sure to tantalize your taste buds. Every dish that I tried was made with care and attention to detail, resulting in an explosion of flavor in every bite. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also top-notch, with a warm and welcoming ambiance that makes you feel right at home. The decor is tasteful and stylish, and the staff are attentive and friendly, always happy to assist with any requests or questions you may have. One of the standout dishes at Kama Bistro that I tried is the butter chicken, which is a rich and creamy curry that is both savory and satisfying. perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. The naan bread is soft and fluffy, and the samosas are crispy and delicious. Overall, I highly recommend Kama Bistro to anyone looking for an amazing dining experience. The food is exceptional, the service is outstanding, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Whether you're a fan of Indian cuisine or simply looking to try something new, Kama Bistro is a must-visit restaurant that you won't regret trying.

Pleasantly surprised on the restaurant's take on fusion Indian food. The mixed lamb grill was excellent. The lobster Molly was the most expansive in the flavors that popped. The tikka masala was in line with what I would expect in a classic Indian dish. Very Highly recommended!

Solid food! We got a few drinks, snacks, and dessert. All the meat was tender, cooked fresh, and the naan tasted great too. Would come back again!

Kama is an outstanding dinner experienced. I am a big fan of the Chicken Harissa and the lamb shank vindaloo - by special request ! Awesome!!! Drinks best in Chicago land, most try the tequila based el conquistador and goan sour.

Okay this place is seriously amazing. The quality of the food is top notch. So thoughtful and unique. And the lengthy cocktail menu! Tikka Masala is my go to with the garlic naan (so fresh). We were lucky enough to have Mansoor today and he was the best; so kind and funny wish such a passion for the food and knew great details of how it was prepared. Thank you Mansoor!!
