My wife always orders from here because she knows I like the lamb chops ….after we were done eating she saw so much hair the bottom of the plate she got sick to her stomach. We won’t be dining here again because that is definitely a health code violation. The amount of negligence is astounding. I will not be dining here again.

I am visiting from Baltimore and Ja' Grill is right across from my hotel. I love Jamaican food and decided to try it. I'm so glad I did. It was very busy, but the staff were really attentive and didn't miss a beat. My server was Paris and she was very good and personable. This restaurant is now at the top of my list for the best Jamaican food. I've had the real deal from Jamaica a few times, but this was some of the best I've had. I had the jerk ribs as an appetizer and ox tails for my meal. All of it was fantastic. The cabbage was excellent and cooked perfectly. Often times Jamaican cabbage is not as tender/soft as I like but this was not the case. The ribs and ox tails were well seasoned and tender.

I went to this restaurant on 7/22/2022. This restaurant has the perfect vibe and employees for any time of the day. I went for lunch and had the chicken curry with sweet tea. Entrées automatically come with sides that was awesome as well. It was really good and I enjoyed the man who was serving me. Definitely coming back!!

Ja Grill in Hyde Park Ever since I watched the second season of Luke Cage on Netflix I wanted to try the Jamaican food. In that season a large part of the show takes place in a Jamaican restaurant and I was curious. On our way to MSI we hit this place up. The 1/2 Jerk chicken was delicious, the ribs was not over powering. I ordered it hot and it not burning to where you can’t enjoy it. It came with cabbage and rice and fried plantains. All sumptuous. The Jamaican old fashion was a delight as well highly recommended. The jerk shrimp was similar to the jerk chicken as it came with the similar, rice plantains and such. The shrimp were plentiful and is also a high recommended dish to get. Overall we will be back great food and service.

Dined here during the Christmas holiday with my husband and father, and we were all happy with our choice to eat at this restaurant. The waitstaff was friendly and welcoming, the food was delicious and the overall ambiance was wonderful! Would gladly dine here again.

Loved this restaurant! Cute inside and our food came out fast and was very yummy. We got the honey jerk wings, rice and peas, and beef patty. Janeen was our server and she was sweet and attentive. Will definitely be back!

Came here to have dinner w friends and we quickly got a table for 6 (no reservation). I got jerk wings, spicy sauce served on the side. It’s smoky, flavorful and definitely has a kick. My friends had the jerk chicken dinner, curry dinner, which have big portion, delicious grilled plantains (definitely recommend getting the dinner). Finally, we had both the original rum cake (i prefer this one) and the chocolate run cake and I gotta thats the highlight of the meal, strong rum flavor, decadent sweetness that feels like a warm hug (served warm). The only thing is that it was loud in there so it was quite hard to hear each other.

great ambiance, great service and good food! the cabbage was to die for and the plantains were cooked perfectly! i knew the jerk sauce would be spicy but i think there was some type of vegetable in my meal that made me taste something overly spicy. i had to eat the bread to cool my mouth down!

The food was great, drinks are strong. I gave it 4 stars because my lamb chops had a LOT of fat on them.

Went here with my cousin for a girls day out and the vibe was great! The food was delish and the drinks and music were on point. If you’re looking for a nice and quaint place for a day out consider Ja’ Grille! You won’t be disappointed!

**UPDATED REVIEW!!** Don't waste your Time or Money here!! Either they have "new management" or different owners, but this place has SHRUNK in size and has gone Completely down hill in service!! It was so bad I left after not receiving any water, drinks, or food that I ordered after waiting Over 30 minutes!!! It's Fine, clearly they didn't feel the need to serve me and my husband, and I'm more than happy to go to one of the other 100's of places in the area that will be More than happy to take my Money!!! Hopefully, you can improve, but until then, Good Luck!! Such a Shame. Try to support local businesses, and this is what you get.

The jerk lamb is a MUST have. I ordered the appetizer. It was seasoned to perfection and cooked just right. I recommend medium. Tip: Get the jerk sauce on the side if you're unsure about your spice tolerance. The jerk chicken entrée (pictured) was amazing. And finally the rum cake (pictured) with a shot of rum for a little extra mmph! There are no words. Chef's kiss. I would definitely recommend. All around great experience. The service was excellent. The drinks... heavy pour. This place is a gem.

This was my first time coming to Ja’Grill. I ordered the honey jerk wings and they were soooooo goooood!😋 Best wings I’ve ever had PERIODDD….. I’m definitely coming back.

Food was good, drinks was ok I like how they’re presented. We got a jerk chicken dinner and a red snapper fish (my girl said it wasn’t no meat on the fish it was all sticking to the skin, customer service was good until the lunch crowd really started coming in they seemed under staffed cause it was only one waitress and it took forever to get his attention to get the check

I came here with my brother. He had a Escovitch salmon and I had stew chicken. My stew chicken had a rich flavor. It was very heavy in flavor if that makes sense. My brother let me try his salmon and I preferred that over what I had. We asked to be served outside because it was packed inside the restaurant and it was hot in there. We came on a Sunday around 4 or 5 o’clock.

Man, do I love Ja Grill. Particularly in this location in Hyde Park, the vibe is just completely different than the one in the south loop. They stay pretty busy, but you can at least grab a seat at the bar. First, the rum punch here is the best I've had! They do great cocktails and the bartender is someone fun to watch. Now the food... delicious! Delicious. Delicious. I've never had bad or off food from here. They do jerk just right. The jerk sauce, I could drink it if it weren't as spicy as it is, yet still has so much flavor. My favorite is the lamb chops. The entrees come with their rice and beans, outstanding, and plantains, cooked perfectly. Hands down, this is a great place for any type of event! They also have tvs at the bar so you can watch the games.

Celebrated #56 here with my sweet family! It was just simply worth it!!! The lamb chops were the size of pork chops! There were succulent, savory, so well-seasoned. Everything that I ate was delicious. The atmosphere was live and vibrant. I would celebrate a birthday at this establishment any day!!!

Stopped in spur of moment for bite to eat with a old friend, sat outside nice sunny day had a beer, was offered free water down drinks in shot glasses too lol, lamb chop appetizer was good would have been better minus the fat, red snapper looks good but...was dry and under seasoned unfortunately and the sauce just made what could have at least been crispy SOGGY all to hell, cornbread was nice and moist, plantains were excellent!!! though I probably won't be back for the twos and fews I enjoyed...Step it up and maybe I'll check you out again.

The FOOD WAS TERRIBLE they jerked my plantain the rice seemed like it was cooked for a while. The chicken lacked flavor the steamed cabbage was bland. I just felt like the only thing they had going good was a nice atmosphere. Pretty nice waitress with good music in nice bar but the food gets one star do better no love in it. It’s like the cook just pushed out anything.

A good brother of mine took me to this spot the summer of 2022. Since then, it has become my favorite restaurant to visit next to Pizza Capri in Hyde Park. I love the Jamaican Punch drink. The bartender always makes the drinks 🍸 just right. I was shocked to find 2 items that were not on the menu recommended by the waiter. One of them was Jerk Jamaican Skirt Steak. Believe me when I tell you it was delicious and its highly recommended.

Ja Grill is a Jamaican restaurant located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. The restaurant offers a variety of authentic Jamaican dishes for both vegan and non-vegan guests. Ja Grill also has a full bar with a wide selection of rum drinks. I recently had the opportunity to dine at Ja Grill and I was very impressed with the food and service. I started with an appetizer. The Veggie Patty, which is a Jamaican-style patty filled with seasoned vegetables. The patty was very flavorful and juicy. For my main course, I had the Ital Stew, which is one of Ja Grills’ signature dishes. The Ital Stew is totally vegan made with callaloo, butter beans, carrots, onions, mixed vegetables, herbs, spices, and sautéed in coconut cream. The stew was very flavorful and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. I also had a Jamaican Old Fashioned, which is Mount Gay Barrel Rum with Jamaican Bitters. The drink was very smooth and flavorful. The service at Ja Grill was excellent. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. She made sure that we had everything we needed and she was always checking on us to make sure that our food was good. Overall, I had a great experience at Ja Grill. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was very welcoming. I would definitely recommend Ja Grill to anyone looking for a great Jamaican meal in Chicago. However, there is one thing that I would like to mention about Ja Grill. The cell phone reception inside the restaurant is very poor they had a guest connection but it was locked. The cell phone is need to upload the menu from the QR code. Very small inconvenience but definitely DID NOT ruin the vibe.

Start with the rum punch and add the jerk chicken. The chicken is fall off the bone and the sauce on the side adds a ton more flavor. The cabbage was flavorful and maybe saltier than I needed but it was good. Service was solid given I walked in shortly before closing.

Food: Finally got to visit and I can say I was very impressed. We dined in during lunch hours there was no wait they allow you to choose your seating. All items on receipt are pictured below. Nice serving portions, food did taste good, and the drinks were well mixed. The Red Snapper was a little crisp for my liking but the flavor was there. The rice is a bit dry for me luckily the fish has a lot of sauce so I used that to add flavor and gravy for the rice. The cabbage is good. Service: There was one waiter for 6 tables. At first I thought yikes this wait will be long but actually he has really good customer service and he works the floor like a champ! There was someone around to clear the table and refill the water he was good as well didn’t even have to ask for anything he saw and he took care of it. I would definitely dine in again if not for the food because the service was really good and you don’t get great service many places nowadays. Overall Rate: 8.5/10

I've been here twice, Today was the second time. I had the jerk lamb and curry shrimp dinner best decision ever first time trying lamb chop and I absolutely loved it. The server was also phenomenal and very helpful bot sure of his name but he was great.

Was in Hyde Park for a biz dinner and was hungry for lunch. Happened upon Ja' Grill. Omg was it amazing! Sat at the bar. Ordered the lamb chops appetizer and the cabbage. So delicious. And so was the bourbon martini. Enjoyed talking to the locals at the bar. The bartender was delightful and she made some damn good drinks! Can't wait for my next trip to Chicago.

Love the environment. Great customer service. The food I would rate a 3/5. I didn’t care for the red beans and rice. It was very dry and had literally no gravy to it at all. I literally had to ask the waiter for a side of gravy because there was none on my red beans and rice. The lamb chops I heard were one of the best selling things on the menu. However, they were very dry and over cooked. The drinks were amazing, and the chicken was good.
