First visit, celebrating our wedding anniversary. Loved it, great food, prices, friendly staff and plenty of street parking. Eclectic background music and great drink assortment. My wife is of Scottish background so we’re somewhat familiar with British meals. Can’t wait to return for the Friday fish n’ chips!

Their menu has expanded since the last time I was there years ago. It is much more than just pies. Bartender Jill made me a Malore drink. Yummy.

Some of the best savory pies in Chicago! I recommend the kale mushroom pie, but don’t forget to also ask about the pie of the day. Add a “crown” to your pie for a generous portion of mashed potatoes and gravy on top! Good variety of rotating drafts and really great rotating cocktails as well, including seasonal drinks. During the warm months, this spot has a lovely patio with soft breezes. During the cold months, this spot feels cozy - the perfect place for a meal with warm drinks! Service is speedy, attentive, and welcoming. This is a must-try place!

Very good experience. Service was good. The food was so yummy. Lots of things to try here. The place was decorated very cutely. Pies 4/5 Can’t go wrong with any of these. Wish they were a bit more saucy but other than that it was good. Sausage 5/5 Filling dish. The sausage was very light and with the mash potatoes and gravy was a good mix. The caramelized onion also helped create a sweetness. Scotch egg 4/5 Pretty good. The yolk was still soft which I liked. Curry chips 4/5 Good amount of fries. Gravy chips 5/5 Savory and tasty. Liked this chips much more. Chicken sandwich 5/5 My friend really enjoyed it.

Wonderful lunch in a great setting. The chicken balti pie had wonderful flavor and a Guinness always hits the spot. This is a great place for a small group of people and I’ll certainly be back.

Steak and ale is like pot roast in a pie so delicious! Really, all their pies are delicious, just very different from each other. Their mashed with gravy is excellent. Their Peas used to be better (buttery), but they're still kinda decent. The Scotch egg is yummy. It's a boiled egg inside some sausage inside some breading and fried with some tasty mustard on the side. Milk tea was weak and weird-tasting and barely warm. The bread pudding was great. Try it! The Welsh rarebit on sourdough was rich, a little sharp, and so cheesy, and yes, it tasted like beer cheese... my husband thought it tasted like old school pimento cheese spread, but better. I loved it. Everything was well seasoned but not salty. There is a learning curve here. You have to scan the codes for the menu. You don't get a menu. There was a bit of a wait before being seated and little after, cause no one came to take my order until I flagged someone down. But the food came very fast. Servers are a little inattentive checking in on you and taking drink and food orders. We had one guy who was a bit surly. But we got our food fast so it wasn't too serious. Maybe he was just having a bad day.

Pleasantly surprised how great the food was here! I was looking for a place that served mulled wine and this spot popped up. It was a plus that they also served pot pie as on this cold winter day how comforting. The Scottish egg was very yummy, of course the pot pie and mulled wine was excellent. They sticky toffee pudding was warm and decadent. We got the cookies to go. I also asked for a mulled wine to go which I will make at home (they give you the ingredients to make it). The waitress was very friendly and helpful. My husband’s cousin has the chicken pot pie which the waitress recommended he get it crowned with curry sauce instead of gravy which was a good call. All in all would come again!

When we walked through the door and could hear a British accent coming from a customer in the corner, I knew I was in an authentic British pub. It was my Mothers Day outing with my son. The drinks were excellent. Our appetizer, the Deluxe Gravy Chips, was to die for. We had royal pies with perfectly flaky crusts and delicious fillings. Mine was the Mushroom & Kale and his was the Chicken Balti. We both loved our selections! I would go back and bring others along!

From a Brit, pie and chips were excellent. A little high in price for what is a basic dish back home. - $7 for a half pint of cider is very steep. Also that was not ( I suspect ) HP Sauce in the pot and the British flags on the Christmas tree are the wrong way round on the poles. I say this with absolute light heart because nothing will compare to a classic British pub and with great staff - still worth the visit and so must recommend.

I had steak and ale pie on a trip to London earlier this year and fell in love with it. This was the only place in Chicago that had it on the menu. The only criticism I’ll give it is that the meat seemed more like stew beef as opposed to steak. However I still found it delicious and will come back next time I have a taste for steak and ale pie. In addition to the food I enjoyed eating here and the service was great!

Amazing authentic English Food in an amazingly cozy vintage venue. The service was on point and the prices were very reasonable. Wine selection was very limited but the cocktail abs beer choices would please most. Check em out folks!

We ordered delivery from Pleasant House. I asked for a couple of things that were on the regular menu, but not the online menu. They accommodated those requests beautifully! I would've totally understood if they'd declined my requests, so I can't thank them enough. Beyond that, the food was outstanding even as delivery. Not many places can deliver fries (or chips, in this case) well, but they came through. And they were quick! I added a pic of my meal to demonstrate the excellent fried egg I requested. Next time we're in town, we're going into the actual pub. I can't wait! Thank you, Pleasant House Pub!

We came here five years ago on our first trip to Chicago, and we recently moved to the city and finally came back. It was as good as we remembered from the first time. I'm not a vegetarian but their mushroom and kale pie was sooooooo good, even my fiance said it was amazing. He both the chicken balti and it was great too. Love it. A little expensive, but as a treat this place is great.

I only had their pies to go before. It was our first time dining in today. The pies were great and the atmosphere is nice. The server and service was great. I completely forgot to crown our pies and he was nice enough to take it back and to crown them after it was already brought out. I can't wait to go back again when I'm visiting Chicago again

Had a wonderful brunch experience. There are two rooms, each with its unique character with sunny, big windows. We ordered the steak and ale pie and fried chicken sandwich, which came with pickled zucchini! The chai latte was so fragrant from the spices they used. Highly recommend.

We went in on a Sunday during brunch and absolutely loved the vibe. They were busy, but the wait time was minimal even though we didn't have a reservation. We started with a scotch egg to share and it was absolutely perfectly crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. The stone ground mustard paired really nicely with it. We both ordered the chicken sandwich and MAN was it good. The curry sauce on the side for dipping our fries in was also a stellar addition. To drink, I ordered the royal milk tea. I absolutely loved it and wish more restaurants and coffee shops made their tea like this because if I could have this every day, I absolutely would.

Absolutely loved my time at Pleasant House! Went for brunch and came back for dinner! Don't be fooled, the GB G&T is huge, not just a rocks glass, and the whole cocktail menu is made terrificly both day and night. An Espresso Negroni was perfect for my full English. Dry cider on tap, Pimms cup on tap, and a wonderful staff round out a fantastic British Pub experience! I'll be seeing much more of this place!

This is one of my favorite places and it has been since they were serving out of walk in. Absolutely unique and creative menu - there’s really nothing that you can go wrong with here. Steak and Ale pie is of course the classic (always get mashed potatoes on top) but my personal favorite is the fried chicken sandwich - the pickles are so good, sauce is amazing, and the crisp around the chicken is soo so good. Also get the scotch egg - absolutely love.

Took my family (5 adults) here for dinner and we loved everything! Scotch egg, royal pies, curry chips, burgers, beer, gin and tonic, cookies ... Everything was delicious and the service was excellent! 5 stars, highly recommend. Love the decor and English pub-in-Pilsen atmosphere! Don't miss the William Morris wallpaper in the loo!

To find an authentic British pub in the heart of Chicago was my a goal of mine when u moved to the city and after my visit to Pleasant House Pub my goal is complete. No one has ever called British cuisine fine dining but Pleasant House isn’t trying to be. With large portion sizes of British dishes I couldn’t prepare better myself and amazing service Pleasant House Pub will be added to my list of 5 stars in Chicago. Thank you and you’ll be seeing me soon!

People service skills are excellent! The server was very genuine and attentive and introduced the different dishes to us. He deserves a big "high five". Food was excellent. Atmosphere was friendly, warm and casual. Two sections of dining. There's an indoor space with a bar, and another indoor section with open exterior patio. Street parking was easy to find.

Tremendous little restaurant. The best British pub/restaurant in the city. They sell Cask Ale which is fantastic Good was good, they have a a vegan option which was OK, it would be nice if the vegan option was a bit more traditional.

Great place for a tradition English breakfast. My boyfriend and I went on a Saturday afternoon and the place was fairly packed but we were seated right away. They have an outdoor area that is pretty cool. The inside decor gives an English vibe that I love. Also, the Bloody Mary was very very tasty. I will definitely be coming back soon.

Hearty and filling shepherd's pie. Pastry was nice and flaky, and the filling was pleasant through and through. In addition, their curry special of the day was seasoned nicely. Nice selection of beers to quaff on with your meal or after a hard day of work.

The food was great and beautiful presentation. The restaurant has a quirky and welcoming atmosphere. The wait wasn't long at all to sit or to eat. I'm glad we came!

Had a nice brunch here. We ordered the Royal English Breakfast, which came with everything one would have in England. It was pretty good. The milk tea was a good choice, too. Not too sweet. We did have to request a few items, such as napkins and salt/pepper. But I love the space, decor and the bathrooms are comfortable and clean.

Pleasant House Pub lives up to its name. I felt at home with its pleasant light airy atmosphere. You’ll be dazzled by the authentic British atmosphere it’s combination with its dark wood trim and light airy white especially if you come for lunch during the day. You’ll feel like you stepped into Hogsmeade. Don’t forget to ask for malt vinegar to go with your crispy chips. Just don’t forget chips are fries. The burger was perfectly balanced with a delicious special sauce mixed with chopped onions with a nice tart pickle on top of a perfectly cooked double patty on a delicious bun. Don’t forget to check out the bathroom, you’ll feel like you stepped into an upper class British loo.

I’m English and there aren’t many foods from home that I really miss but decent pies are one of them. Had the chicken balti pie, was fully expecting it to be too dry and lacking in flavor but it was ace. The pastry was really good and I will definitely be going back to Pleasant House to try the steak and ale pie. Couldn’t resist trying the scotch egg - an excellent take and better than you’d find in most English pubs, but I’m happy with one scotch egg about every two years so that’s that craving satisfied for a while.

The house burger is great. Two smash patties, cheddar, and some special stuff going on. I like to keep it pure on this one--no ketchup or mustard. And the chips (fries) are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and delicious on the inside. Order with a side of mayo and definitely malt vinegar. Feeling like I'm in London. Staff is easy going. Quiet atmosphere. I've enjoyed a book or two year once or twice here. One bike stand out front. Ditch the car, burn off those dinner calories!

I almost no fail order the chicken balti pie with extra curry sauce. The crust is crisp and the inside is not too spicy, but nicely balanced. Order the extra curry sauce on the side and douse the pie. If you get the steak and ale, crown it (mashed potatoes on top.) Patio has a slightly more casual vibe then the inner dinning room. Don’t forget you can take frozen pies to go.

My favorite pies in Chicago 🤩😋 we got takeout and two frozen pies for a different day. They are so delicious, must get frozen every time if you're not close to go there.

Such a cute spot and the food was magnificent (and very filling). Got a table immediately for noon on a Sunday. Plenty of options for my vegetarian friend and the pies were great. Doesn't look like much from the outside but the inside will surprise you.

Delicious food... who could go wrong with an English style meat pie? Eat them there and take a few home for later. I got into potted pickled vegetables (pickled cantaloupe was really interesting in here), a Scotch egg, and a Steak and Ale meat pie all washed down with a nice Festbier. I took home Steak and Ale and the Curry Chicken pie. Just as good at home!
