Whenever I come to The Original Island Shrimp House, I feel like I've been magically transported to the coast of Maine! The aroma of goodness floats in the air making it increasingly difficult to choose what you want to eat. Everything is superb, honestly! I can literally point at the menu, with my eyes closed, and be thrilled with an absolutely nourishing, satisfying, and delectably exquisite dish! Quality seafood is not the only aspect worth giving this restaurant a visit, the people who make this place work and function are truly spectacular individuals! It's the kind of place where one may enter alone, but leave with new friendships! In fact, many fellow regulars and I enjoy great conversations and food together - and I have only met them through dining here! It's so much fun! I feel I must add that this restaurant is impeccably clean, seriously, even the bathrooms twinkle and sparkle! If you're hungry, or feel a tad lonesome, or want to appreciate a special event, come here to enjoy a vacation and celebrate life while at The Original Island Shrimp House! Enjoy and have fun! 😁

My mom raved about the Original Island Shrimp House so much that when I came into town it was the first restaurant she wanted to have dinner with me. Well I must say this is some awesome seafood. Seasoned very well, staff are extremely pleasant and the food was so delicious. We shared a shrimp scampi dinner and had our own Beast from the East Lobster Roll. I surely wanted to eat the roll at the restaurant but I decided to take it home. The most important for me outside of the food being delicious was the owner Tim took the time to get to know my mom and I. He gave us a history of the restaurant and how it came to fruition. It’s like a family oriented restaurant that’s a must eat at. All I’m trying to say is make sure to try The Original Island Shrimp House whenever you’re in Chicagoland area.

Let me start by saying the hunt is over for me. I have searched and searched the Chicagoland area for years and I finally found the quintessential lobster roll. My words can't describe what I tasted, it was so good. The lobster roll, "the beast from the east", which I split with my girlfriend and really didn't want too was harmony in my mouth, from the new england style bun that was lightly buttered and toasted, to the 12 ounce or more of lobster with a light mayo and a little bit of crunch. I ate this so slow to savor the taste as I never wanted it to end. Once I was done with that, I moved on to the lobster Mac and cheese. I dont even like Mac and cheese and this was an explosion of cheese accompanied by chunks of lobster. They don't put little pieces like these other places, they put chunks of lobsters. Finally, which I am glad I waited last for was the New England Clam Chowder. I am not joking when I say this, it was the best clam chowder I have ever had and the flavor was parallel to none. It was the soup that kept giving and I never wanted it to end. Big pieces of clams and good flavor. One thing I can say about all these dishes was they were made with tender love and care and they were not over salty, very clean and healthy tasting. Tim the owner which I talked too for 15 min on the phone and another 10 min in the restaurant is a great business owner. Truly cares about his customers all while pumping out quality food. I truly felt like family when I walked in Island Shrimp House. Tim greeted me at the door and shook my hand. I have never found a business owner like this on the south side of Chicago. I wish other businesses would take notes from Tim and his family cause they truly understand what hospitality is and I could see that as they had a line of customer waiting to come in before they even opened. A+++++ establishment please dont change continue to run your business like this consistently and i will be a cusotmer for life. I take my hat off to this family and there business as I was truly blown away!!!!

We showed up about 2 hours before they closed, the Calamari and Scallops were fresh, Hot, and awesome. Big Portions, FYI it's a BYOB establishment right now. The Owner is very friendly and so is the wait staff

Service was attentive, engaging and polite! I recommend their lobster roll and seafood jambalaya (had to get a 2nd! It was so good!). Then key lime pie to top it off! Great place!

I love coming here because food and service is great and consistent. Everything we have ordered has been good: Lobster roll, Taco trio (fish, shrimp, steak), Shrimp po-boy, Clam chowder. Get the cornbread, it’s buttery with crispy edges.

Would always see this place driving towards Orland Park for the past 2 years, finally went in today and wasn't disappointed. I'm sure everything is good, but my friend and I tried the homemade clam chowder and shrimp bisque with garlic bread and corn bread to start. They were both great! Then we got 1/2 peel shrimp (Diablo sauce), lobster roll, and tavern style fish and chips and everything was so tasty and just right. 10/10!

This visit to the Original Island Shrimp House was like every other visit, perfect! Intimate atmosphere and the staff is so attentive. We enjoyed the delicious Tavern Fish & Chips and the amazing clam chowder. If you walk out of here hungry, that’s on you. Portions are very generous. Our goal is to taste every item on the menu. A must try dining experience

The service was amazing from the minute I walked thru the door, however, the food was even more awesome. The creme brulee for dessert, I would drive back everyday for. I tried the blackened Pollock sandwich (first time trying this type of fish), oh my goodness the best, and the flavor..oh my goodness! Also, I'm not a huge tomato person but tried the heirloom tomatoes in the ensalada caprese that was on the daily special menu, it was perfect!!! Oh yea, the waiter recommended the clam chowder for a starter but I didn't want to be to full, in order to enjoy everything, sooo, I got a bowl to go. It was great too! I was really impressed with everything. I can't wait to go back.

One of my 🍤 seem odd compared to all others served to me for my pick up order. Out of the 1lb of shrimp there is 1 that sticks out as you see in photo. Otherwise this fried seafood taste great. Looks like someone bit out of it. It was a pick up order within 1 hour of close time. I did arrive around 8pm.

What an amazing gem! A very comfortable atmosphere, beautiful decor, amazing staff! We were greeted at the the door by Tim, an amazing connoisseur of life, seafood and adventures! We asked for suggestions on menu items, wonderful story for each menu item. All the food we tried was amazing. Humble fresh ingredients elevated to amazing items. Delicious starter salad! Heirloom tomatoes, fresh mozzarella cheese, and basil. A lovely scented rich cup of shrimp bisque. Thick and velvety. You can taste thick rich bisque, slow cooked for days! Main entree delicious Oscar Salmon, lovely crispy skin salmon. Fresh asparagus with delicate hollandaise sauce, with a side of garlic mashed potatoes. My husband had the tavern fish fry. Light sweet cod, deep fried with perfect French fries, the fries are tossed with parsley. Lastly delicious crème brûlée 🥰😛. The crème brûlée is made with real vanilla beans, no imitation vanilla. Topped with fresh fruit and whipped cream. We have to come back to try all the menu items!! YOU MUST TRY THIS RESTAURANT!!!’ Dine-in a much better experience than ordering pickup! Get it how you can, just get them! Definitely true to their word, one of the best seafood restaurants in Illinois!!

First time trying this place. Ordered the 1/2 lb breaded shrimp. Loved them. Nice and fresh. Just enough batter. The batter is seasoned really good. Cocktail sauce has a nice sweetness to it. Very friendly staff. Very clean establishment.

I really really want to love this place. The young lady at the counter was great. She was helpful and very kind. The food, however, was disappointing. The Buffalo shrimp was cooked perfectly, but the flavor is not Buffalo. All of our food was very oily too. I am going to give this place another try. The food was fresh, hot, just not the best flavor.

Just…absolutely breathtaking. The music, the ambiance and the food of this place make it a clear winner. Being in the Midwest we are not seen as a center of seafood but this place does not disappoint. We tried the shrimp bisque soup and then went on a Fried and grilled culinary journey. To say I was pleasantly surprised was an understatement. Would come again!

Family run, casual, Great spot for Seafood. If you appreciate truly fresh seafood well prepared this is your place. The Clam Chowder is the best I’ve ever had. Breaded shrimp, fish & chips, Crab Legs, Lobster Rolls….. All on point! They also have pasta & dinner specials everyday. And it’s a casual atmosphere. You can come in shorts & a t-shirt and not feel out of place. They do serve beer & wine also. Definitely worth trying.

Surprisingly great food prepared from scratch and cooked after you order. Their Seafood Jambalaya soup was bursting with flavors. The scallop po' boy sandwich was very well prepared. We finished off our dinner with their Key Lime Tart and it's plating and flavors were something you would experience in fine dining restaurants.

Definitely recommended. This is a place which takes East Coast seafood seriously and focuses on quality of the food in an accessible setting. We were all happy with our entrees and would easily recommend anything on the menu. We were very pleased with the service, also. Our server was friendly and attentive, and happy to talk through some of the menu items. A senior staff member (possibly the proprieter?) also checked in from time to time without being obtrusive. All in all a very satisfying experience.

Amazing food and service! This restaurant has taken top spot as my family’s most favorite restaurant! Make sure to stop by on Thursdays Fridays and Saturdays for the chef’s specials!! Insane flavor combinations. See photo of the Roasted Salmon Octoberfest! And the Island Bang Shrimp! Wow! Super clean restaurant and bathrooms. Not a speck of dust anywhere! I wish we would have stopped in earlier as we have driven past many times. Our family’s new favorite sea food place for sure!! You will equally be as amazed as we were.

Today my wife and I went here for the first time. Been passing this place up for the past 2 years living in Palos. Finally decided to try it out. Awesome place awesome service. Tim immediately gave us multiple recommendations and all were delicious. The staff there were all very respectful and courteous not only to us but to others as well. I’m glad we finally stopped in to try this place out. He also mentioned having the best tacos in Tuesdays! I’ll definitely be back to try those out too. Thanks for a great night!

Myself and my wife usually drop in here after a weekend hike. The owner is very friendly and keeps the place immaculate. I happen to be a stickler about cleanliness and its one of the cleanest restaurants I've been to. Food is good. My general go-to is the shrimp po'boy with some sides and the garlic fries. Prices are reasonable for seafood. Would recommend if you are in the mood for some casual dining with great service.
