“A very scenic walk or bike riding trail with great views ! There’s several hills, train tracks, benches, rivers & a bridge. I would definitely recommend this trail to anyone looking for somewhere to ride bikes or walk!” — Chloe

It was a short visit for a picnic lunch. What I got to see was beautiful! There was a DNR seminar and the park was closing for it so we had to cut our visit short.

I ride my bike through hickory creek almost daily. The path crosses the creek twice. There's also a pond and a few benches to sit on. One end of the path ends at a playground and the other at the little red schoolhouse that used to be kitty corner from Lincolnway high school before Walgreens took the spot.

There are a few different access points for Hickory Creek, which don't all connect to one another (Hickory Creek Barrens, Hickory Creek Junction), but still a great place to walk through the woods. In the fall, the preserve closes early for deer mating season (around 3-4pm), so watch out for signage; you don't want to get stuck in the preserve when it's closed! There are a couple bridges (on either side of the 3+ mile trail) that take you across Hickory Creek, which is a nice stopping place, since it is a bit of a hike. In addition to the asphalt-paved trail, there is a smaller nature trail off from the back parking lot, which is a bit under a mile loop(?) The main pedestrian bridge (you can't miss it, since it is a full metal bridge) takes you to a portion of the Old Plank Trail, great for biking in addition to walking or running.

Very well maintained and interesting trail. Passing a creek through some prairie and woods. Evening times comes with the bonus of close calls with deers. Unfortunately the dogs are not allowed pass the bridge.

Besides the obviously busy roads near the entrances which can be quite loud, the nature preserve is gorgeous, well-maintained, and full of wildlife ranging from squirrels to deer and many great bird singers in between. It's a quaint place to walk every weekend, and the hills keep up the level of activity for any person. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to unwind. Just make sure to bring the bug spray and camera!

I've been hiking here for about 20 years. It's a great place to get out and get some excersize and fresh air. There are paved walking trails as well as dirt hiking trails. Bicycles are welcome. I am disappointed however that the town shuts it down early sometimes and hunt the deer back there.

When we arrived to hike with our dog it was posted that dogs weren't allowed. With the website down it was impossible to know that this was a state nature reserve area. We wouldn't have gone and wasted our time if we knew. Had to turn around and leave. I'm sure the area is very beautiful, I'd just like to know ahead of time. Please maintain the webpages better and list which resources are reserve areas where pets aren't allowed. I want to comply and follow the rules, but I'd rather know ahead of time.

I absolutely love it here, it is absolutely beautiful and you can bike, run, walk, jog or even just sit down and watch all the different birds there are. The only thing though, it would be great irresponsible pet owners to pick up after their dogs so the trails can be poop-free.

I could have stayed there for hours and hours, unfortunately, it got dark too soon. The flowers are just beautiful. With the evening song of the birds, and the sound of the cicadas, who needs to listen to music? I am going tomorrow in the morning, just to enjoy it all over again. If you haven't visited, please, do so, you will not regret it ( unless you have allergies, ragweed all over).

Amazing food and service! I highly recommend the Brussel sprouts! So delicious, yum! And the wine flights are an amazing way to try different wines at a great cost as you get a decent pour.

The most beautiful and scenic bike trail we have been on in the suburbs. Great park for little kids and restrooms!

I come here regularly and truly enjoy the scenery. It's beautifully maintained and the trail is safe to enjoy for all. I like to walk across the bridge and watch the river as it bring me peace. Also, nice that it is well kept and clean.
