Its a nice short walk with some interesting historical information. But it's nestled between I-55 and Harlem so I wouldn't really call it relaxing. However, if you need a quick break or want to stretch your legs, the walkway is partially paved and partially gravel. Good for walking dogs or short stroll about a mile in length.

Interesting place to visit and photograph - the sculpture is clearly visible in Google earth. Nice trails and woods, valleys and swamps.

Beautiful spot. To bad they donโ€™t do more to preserve it. So much history and itโ€™s not well known. For more information, please visit my fb page at Emโ€™s National Park Adventures

While this is a nice park, having walked the entire trail it totally fails to convey any sense of why this site was such an historic site as a portage between the Great Lakes and the Des Plaines River / Mississippi River system. There is no sense at all of the "portage", just a nice small park.

Sweet little slice of nature and history in the midst of industry and city chaos. The loop isn't long but there's lots of wildlife and it's a great length for an adventure with small kids. My almost 4 year old walked the whole loop (with very minimal tired whining at the end) and we didn't get too exhausted holding the 1 year old for most of it.

Nice little park with parking, sculpture, and historical interpretation signage. The lollipop trail is very short and doesnโ€™t give you a true sense of what the area looked looked due to industrialization and development. However, it is a beautiful slice of nature, and perfect for dogs and families with young kids. I enjoyed reading the history and couldnโ€™t help but think of the many travelers before me as I walked. Worth checking out for history nerds or if looking for a little space to walk.

A quiet, clean place, with policemen taking care of the place, I really liked it.

Beautiful but the parking is limited. In addition folks want to drive there instead of walking or biking despite those provisions. Nonetheless it's a move spot to hang out and read a book or relax.

A great place to find yourself or think out loud. This place is very magical, from the water, animals and history. If you look you will find nature.

Very interesting to see the west end of the portage preserved. You can walk the trail to go see the Des Plaines river where all pioneer and French traders passed over this route with their merchandise. I wasn't happy to see the perimiter fences and industry around, but it's completely understandable considering the location. I am thrilled that this site has been preserved!!!

Good place to walk around, relax. Feed the animals. Also if you don't have anywhere to go and you are tired you can sleep in your car and no one will bother you, like at Ottawa trail woods were gay people come and ask you if you want to have sex with them. The forest police should put a stop to this, people come here to relax and these faggets come around and bother people.I don't see any police coming here to check up on what's going on so be on your gaurd. Also you have to watch kinder-morgan across the street they think everyone is a terrorist who Park's at the woods.

Had a nice afternoon walk getting away from the city congestion for a few hours. The maps were helpful finding a trail and deciding where to walk.

Amazing. I love that ppl so t understand how world-changing this portage site was. If the Jonesโ€™ Act were repealed, we would understand a lot better. I believe we can limit the shipping to certain, friendly nationsโ€™ ships. If Portugal or South Korea or Morocco want to have a barge to pick up iron or or grain or heavy machinery from our bountiful interior on the Great Lakes-Mississippi-Gulf/Atlantic Coastal waterway, why not? They are not Iran or North Korea. Also, can we like make a deal to mix it up with Canada more, at the very least?? We are bestest of friends. They ainโ€™t gonna attack us via boat on the Great Lakes. This ainโ€™t 1812. Repeal the Jones Act. We can still keep our fleet. Just donโ€™t let countries mess around with flagging and all that. Write out what we all want in the bill, and we will get it. The American version of Aristotle Onassis will get over it. VISIT THIS SITE! And read up on it before you go :)

It is a very cozy historical marker. It has the monument representing the explorers with their indigenous helpers and guides. Is not very big but not many peole stop by. You wouldn't see too many people.

I brought my dog here recently, and it's a great loop to walk. It's a nice change from our normal walks around the neighborhood. Parking is easy and you can learn some history about the region. I'd love if there were permanent bathrooms, but there is a port-a-potty if you're desperate.

Very nice park to take a walk or bike ride. The open trail is almost a mile long, or for a longer walk, one path leads to a sidewalk over the Des Plaines River along 47th Street.

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ I have this place five stars and it's not even finished. River access is the top draw. You can picnic right next to the water. There are nice bathrooms, a play ground and soon a skate park. Follow the river to a small art exhibit in the wood.
