A great place to picnic, hike or rent a kayak. They have various trails from under a mile to over four, these trails also connect to Blackwell and St. James farm if you are looking for a good bike path to go for miles. They also have a few vending machines with snacks, drinks and even worms for fishing. They do have picnic shelters for get together, parties or BBQs! A great spot whether you want to relax on the lake or go for a hike.

Absolutely gorgeous preserve. A mix of prairie and woods with rolling hills. Trails are casual and can be tackled by any skill level. Path is shared with bicycles, horses, pets and hikers but it's wide enough to accommodate us all. There are outhouse style bathrooms in the south parking lot. Lots of shelter options and benches. The loop around the preserve is approximately 5 miles not including the loop around the lake.

We had a picnic at one of the many picnic tables which was very nice and not overcrowded at all. We took a stroller on the oath around the lake which was around 1 mile and the stroller did fine on the dirt/gravel path. There were many dogs which us always fun since we also bring out dog out with us. I can't wait to come back in the summer when it's nice and green!

Beautiful scenery, reasonably clean rest facilities (some with running water). Picnic areas, gravel covered paths. Some paths have an uphill grade but numerous others don't. A lap around the lake is about 2 miles. Canoes available to rent. Paths are crushed limestone so if it's raining expect to get splattered with white ;) but because of the crushed Limestone you don't have mud problems so really very nice main paths even when wet.

Nice place to take a walk- though the trails were not super long. Nice place to take a short stroll around the lake. It was very busy on a fall morning

If you go in the fall when the leaves change color, you’ll have a truly satisfying experience. The trees along the lake were really beautiful. I would definitely visit again and highly recommend it to you all. One downside was that the restroom was dirty and dreary. Also, there are any restrooms in the middle of the trail.

Hedrick Lake Forest Preserve is a nice picnic spot, suitable for hiking, running, horror riding or biking. It has unique flora and fauna and many beautiful birds.

This is honestly a really cool place to visit! You can honestly spend hours here going along the trails, hang out by a nice lake or even go canoeing. On just one walk I was able to see a bunch of different little animals. If you get tired of walking and want to go canoeing they have a rental area, which also has vending machines. One even dispenses bait if you feel like fishing.

Beautiful beautiful beautiful! Well kept trails, beautiful look out points, great fishing spots. Plenty of picnic tables and seating area. Easy to get around and trails arent very long. We often go here for picnics and a quick walk. They offer boating and canoes. When we recently went, they had a kind helper walking around letting everyone know not to touch the water due to a toxic algae in there. Which happens. Plenty of wildlife and everyone that goes respects the wildlife, the land, and you never see litter. Great quick walking area.

So close to where I live yet one if the better preserves to visit. I see some folks fishing but never saw anyone catch anything. The trails are great to walk on.

Nice and quiet. It looks very clean and theres a long trail that connects with another one so in case you plan on moving all day, youre good to go

This is a great place to go for a walk but with COVID-19 times it is a little crowded. Once you get up a little further it's a little more sparse.

Gorgeous! A hidden treasure with the Danada Forest Preserve. Herrick is surrounded by gravel trails good for biking, walking, running, or watching the horses trot by. A breath taking site with canoes, and other boats for rent on a moderate size pond teaming with fish. Not sure if poles are for rent. Two shelters one with a vending machine, and a bathroom on site. I was able to catch a snap shot of a stork relaxing amongst the other wildlife. Abundant parking, usually all but empty except on holidays. A perfect retreat, and place to rest or ride. If you're lucky you might get to see some of the horses from Danada Equestrian Center ride through. You can also purchase a horse back ride there.

Herrick Lake is a great place for a relaxing walk, photography, bicycling and many other activities. The paths are wide and well maintained; even on ‘busy’ days the visitors disburse throughout and it doesn’t appear crowded. Keep an eye out for horseback riders when following the various paths through the woods, so not to spook them and throw off their riders.

Good place for spending some time outdoor. Lots of shades where you can setup a hammock, have a picnic. The trails are good - there is a short one going around the lake, and there are a few long ones connected to Danada Forest Preserve.

Beautiful, peaceful lake so close to the city, but seems a world away. You can choose the trail that circles the lake or take one of many that venture into the woods. Darian and I saw a momma bird swoop into her nest in the eaves of one of the picnic shelters and feed her babies! It was amazing.

Great views of the tree colors and lake. So peaceful and relaxing. Lots of spots to picnic. There’s kayaking on the lake too! It would be a great hike at the start of fall to witness the full spectrum of fall colors

We had a group event at the South Shelter. It is a really nice place to have a gathering, easily 40 people +, but it's divided into three sections so you can do fewer people and have it feel more intimate. It is a stone "half building" - one wall is stone, it has a roof. It has a fireplace. It is right on the lake with a very pretty view. Downsides are that there is no grill and the nearest restrooms are a little bit of a walk.

Some patches of ice and snow on the gravel trail. Not much to look at, except a few frozen ponds and the equestrian track. It’s a long and boring trail to walk on, but looks nice to go for a run or bike.

We have come here several times for an extended family get together. Lots of space in the shade for setting up an area for 20 people and parking near that space and room for kids to play and walk around the lake without parents overhearing them, and geese to watch. Nice bathrooms nearby. Never a complaint heard.

Nice hiking and biking around the lake and connects to other parks along the DuPage River including connecting to the Prairie Path. Home to a Great Blue Heron that can be seen most days. Also home to a wild Turkey that hides in the west woods. You can rent canoes and boats on the east side of the lake but you are not allowed to bring in your own. It’s a nice loop around the lake I like to walk around year round. Many people enjoy fishing including ice fishing.

Herrick is always a nice place to visit. It generally isnt the best for fishing unless you are letting your bait sit. Also it is a really popular hub for trails so you can expect it to be decently busy in the winter and packed in the summer.

Just had a group of 40 enjoy a socially distanced day retreat at the East Picnic Shelter here. The Forest Preserve staff made sure the space was picked up, helped us move tables around, showed us the switch for the lights, and gave us extra garbage bags which was really helpful. The space can fit 100 during normal times and 50 during COVID times. It was perfect for our group to have a lot of space. It's also right next to a big grassy area and extra picnic tables outside of the shelter. I would highly recommend anyone reserve this space for a larger group gathering.

The weekend was cold and chilly but we enjoyed the walk through all the trails. The frost on the trees was captivating. People walking the dogs should always remember to pick after the dog's poop.

I've been here many times and recently just came here for a family picnic for labor day. The place is clean and there are great views of Herrick lake from all around. Fabulous place to do picnics, great trails for hikes and biking, wonderful place for dogs and can't forget plenty of restroom areas. If you get a chance to check it out then I say you must.

Today was my first time visiting Herrick Lake Forest Preserve. I walked around the path along the lake. There are lots of picnic tables and benches to rest along the way. They have public restrooms and boat rental area. The paths are well marked. I walked about 1.25 miles around the whole lake.

Herrick Lake Forest Preserve is a hidden gem! It’s not far from the Chicago downtown, and it provides a very nice area with the Lake, picnic areas and trails for both walking and biking. Will recommend to families for a relaxing afternoon or social distancing gatherings on the lawn during summer time.

Nice area to hike but not after a snow. Trails are covered by ice and snow and it's easy to slip. I like the lake, specifically.
