Hickory Knolls Discovery Center

Tourist attraction Nature preserve

👍👍 I visited this place with my kids (3-8 years old) mostly to get out of the house. The kids felt good there. We enjoyed the chance to check out some amazing animals that we get to share this planet with and this center takes care of them (pluss stuffed ones). May it assist many others in discovery... First of all! If you haven't taken your kid here, do so ASAP especially if they love animals. They offer a program where you can feed some of their animals. And I high recommend ir! We had such a good time learning about the animals and their care. A great experience for any age. My kids and I loved it! 😍

Great place to bring littles! There’s a giant turtle tank with a ramp for little kids to stand on to see inside! Lots of different aquariums filled with snakes, spiders, lizards, fish, and turtles! Back play area for the kids is all logs, rocks and a sand area. No playground but great fun for the kids to walk on all the different things!

My best friend had her wedding here. They were so accommodating when it rained, they let us have the wedding inside one of the buildings. The grounds are beautiful and they have reptiles and animals in the building. It was pretty nice! There is a water park there also. I will be visiting there again. Beautiful place. I think there may be a basketball or tennis court there too. I m not sure though? Great place to take the kids.

My husband and I got married here in July 2017. Everything was perfect and the kids absolutely loved being able to see the animals. This is a beautiful place and the staff are super sweet and knowledgeable.

I went for the native plant sale the first weekend of June and came out with over 20 plants for the hummingbirds and bees! Would love to go again and the people running the sale were very knowledgeable.

We love coming to Hickory Knolls. The staff are friendly and always willing to chat about the creatures they have there. They'll even sometimes take them out to show the kids, outside of their daily meet and greets at 11 & 3. It's a large place too with just enough for kids to do. Lots of turtles, snakes, lizards etc.. They have a huge viewing window with lots of bird feeders to watch. Very clean, flushing, toilets. They host classes and events and you can rent rooms there too. The natural playground could do with a sprucing up but my kids always have a blast there with their friends. There are hiking trails behind the Center with a story to follow along with. All in all, a great place to spend some time.

Lived in the area for 5 years but had no idea this place existed. Had a baby and after she became mobile I started looking for places to take her to and boom this place appeared. First time I went there for a Storytime st. Charles public library does there from time to time and loved it. Nice clean space and there are a lot of things to look at and explore. At a time my baby got to see rare turtles, snakes , reptiles and even pet a pyton. The staff is friendly and professional. Definitely worth checking out!

LOVE THIS PLACE. I had my sons first birthday party here and we did a critter meet and greet. We visit here all the time throughout the week. Great free activity to do with the kiddos and they love!!!!! Small building that takes 15 min to walk through.

We were looking for something to do on a rainy day with the grandkids, and we found it. The interaction with the turtles, & getting to feed the lizzard was their favorite.

Awesome experience with my daughter! She loved all of the reptiles and especially the albino rabbit that she was able to pet. Really neat place with so much to explore!

Our kids loved our experience at Hickory Knolls Discovery Center. We did not expect anything when we decided to check out the place. We were amazed by what they had. For such a small place, they have quite a variety of species for small kids to enjoy and learn. Both our 7-year-old and our teen had a great time. Our little one was enthusiastic about the different species of snakes that they had. She loved the turtles, and she couldn't stop talking about the bearded dragon. Of course, she was happy with her petting experience with STAR, the rabbit. Our teen got excited about their outdoor space in the back. She loved taking photos, and that was what she did. They had a variety of blooming flowers. The trees were incredible. It felt like we were not in the middle of St. Charles. They also have sitting areas both indoor and outdoor. We packed our lunchboxes for a quick lunch and enjoyed it in one of their picnic tables in the back of the discovery center. It was definitely worth our time.

👍👍 Very nice wooded area with pockets of open space. The walking path is short, however it extends into a quiet neighborhood. The playground has 3 slides and 6 swings with 3 suitable for older individuals. There is a public restroom and water fountain that has a dog option. Nice covered picnic area as...
