I frequent this thrift store with my sister. I realized today that out of all the times I've visited I've never bought a single item....And I never will. The pics I posted are actual prices. This thrift store always seems to make me reconsider a purchase. Why would I buy an overpriced used item when I can spend the same amount and sometimes less buying brand new. For example, an old used DVD/CD player priced for $99.00. Why? Their pricer needs to get a grip seriously. Greed is killing this country and it's sickening 😒

Super cool experience walking into the store. They had lots of available items a large women’s section a large golf section which was pretty cool. The electronics were impressive and I saw a couple pieces of furniture that I might come back for and get the staff seem to be well adjusted to moving around the environment and helping individuals out and it was also quite a few people inside of the building at the same time.

This store is exceptionally well organized. You can find furniture and misc large items here that you won't find at many other thrift shops- like sewing machines, vacuum cleaners, and on and on. BUT you will also pay more at this store than other discount stores in the area. They actually have some prices, where I can find the item new in retail stores for the same or maybe even less. They have fitting rooms, and a designer area. Also LOTS of space down the aisles. The selection is HUGE, as is this location.

This was my favorite thrift store of all time. You could find great deals if you would just search. Obviously a lot of locals would drop off their gently used items and you could generally find cool stuff at a good price. Then a new store manager arrived, and the prices on everything shot up to the moon. I don’t know what this guy is thinking, but I’m not going to spend $40 on a pair of used Chuck Taylors that I can get brand new at Marshall’s for $28. He had a vintage Star Wars vinyl priced at $50. The outer sleeve was in terrible shape, so I asked to take a closer look at it, and it had a massive scratch on it! All you have to do is look online to find that even a very good condition LP goes for $5-$7 at best. I showed the young lady behind the counter that it was priced for $5 on Discogs and she just shook her head. I have a sense the volunteers don’t like this guy very much. I understand that they want to make money, and that’s fine. But you can’t just throw a huge price tag on everything and think that it’s going to sell. I’ve been a fairly regular customer coming in an average of twice a month, but after what I saw today, I probably won’t be back again. Any suggestions on another thrift store nearby without massive price gouging?

This store has been out of touch with reality for years it's unbelievable. I've always shopped here. I live a frugal life and they have great selections so I go here almost on a weekly basis. This was way back around 2005ish. Back then no clothing is over 3.99. This was also before the place was renovated. Post renovation, prices went up, but I'd say still reasonable. Every Saturday, the week's color on sale are dropped down to 69 cents. Post pandemic, came the unbelievable pricing. My last trip was this weekend, and it is probably going to be my last visit. I've since moved to Indiana but would make the trip to this place if im in the city. The prices were OUTRAGEOUS. They are selling DONATED items which are supposed to benefit the less fortunate community who cannot afford new clothing or whatever. I still am hoping that the management would seriously consider how they are pricing their items. Otherwise, will not recommend this store.

This location was my very favorite place to find a great deal. I found the best deals on furniture and accessories. This place was so hard to resist, that I looked forward to finding my next treasure there. This year, July 2022, I have seen the prices at the Salvation Army store on Clybourn have quadrupled! My jaw dropped when I saw the prices of old, damaged, parts missing furniture. From dressers to accent tables to chairs. Very disappointed in the direction you have taken. Let me add a comment for the shoe section. I only looked at the mens shoes and whoa, $50 for a used pair of shoes. Went to goodwill and found a nice leather pair for $7.

I used to like the book selection a lot before, now there is a "buyer" who scans all the books to set aside the good ones, so there is no selection anymore. Also, there is a guy in the jewelry shop and he's not nice, in this section the prices there were absurd on the Vynil records, and some other items, you can get them cheaper online and in much better condition. Everybody else was nice, the greeter is very kind and also the cashiers.

This location always has a very good selection of furniture. I thrifted some items here back in 2017, refinished them, and they are still key pieces in my home. I agree with other posters. I have gone back in recent years and they are definitely a bit more pricey. Some items I have found to be comparably priced with similar, brand new retail items in other stores. You can still find a good bargain though if you keep looking and have a knack for refurbishing items. The 4 stars are for the pricing.

Great place to find some nice stuff ,however, it is well overpriced. Sometimes, I have found some good useful items ,but also mainly what they have in bric a brac are priced as if they were new and sometimes worse, I've found tuppers the kind that you get 2 for 1.25 at dollar tree priced at 1.99 for a single item there and a used Tommy Hilfiger undershirt that comes in a pack of 3 that's usually priced 28 at the Tommy store brand new, priced at 16.99 is it not supposed to be a thrift store?

Warning: Pickpockets lurking this store!! Unsafe and overpriced. I turned my back for less than a minute and there was a man rummaging through the pockets of my coat in my cart. He was there with another man and the two were clearly there only to rob people. Luckily I carry all of my belongings in my bag, which I always have on my person. With their ridiculous prices and overstock of trash, there's no reason to come here. Don't risk your safety and your belongings, it's not worth it.

I had to wait an unreasonable amount of time to see items in the front ,jewelry counter. Then after I asked one of the sales girls to hold a few items that I wanted to buy ,a pair of earrings that were held for less than five min. disappeared. After all three clerks searched for them for about 10 mins. the earrings were never found.I bought several other items, and a large bag,but felt frustrated that the earrings were never found. I had to stand there and wait, making me late for an appointment. Otherwise,I like the stores new organized merchandising.

I just went there today to drop off a whole van full of items left over from a garage sale. The people working the donation area were extremely rude. Not one lifted a finger to help. The one guy just kept barking orders on where I should put everything, and basically trying to get me to hurry up. In the past and other facilities I have gone too the employees always helped to unload to move things along. Not stand there and watch and yell at people. I still ended up going in to look around. What a joke. The prices were astronomical! $29.99 for a purse. $15.99 FOR A SMALL PICTURE GRAME! Just awful. I will not donating or shopping there any more. Ill give somewhere else

Been coming here for about 6 years. Since the pandemic the prices are absolutely INSANE for a store that gets everything used and donated. They are clearly taking advantage of the neighborhood they’re in. You do find nice things here but unless it’s the color of the week price tag, you’re getting ripped off. Be careful, look closely. Some things are ripped, torn, broken and they still charge you what TJ Maxx or Marshall’s would charge for the same brand new item.

All of the workers are rude. Everything is overpriced. I overheard the manager of the store brag about how he sold a box of random legos for $50. They always have fake Jordan’s/Yeezys for sale for hundreds of dollars. Not a great place. Definitely needs new management.

Employees are rude and unprofessional. Took my kids in with their friends. Everyone purchased items. One of my daughters purchased a bag full of items and then came back In to wait in line with me and was accosted by one of the security guards for re-entering the store with a bag. She was told to leave (15 yr). Next the checkout woman had my other daughter (11yr) pulled back in the store and accused her of not paying for a pair of socks. We provided check out woman the receipt (from my other daughter) to prove we paid and she didn’t even have the decency to apologize or thank us for our understanding. Totally rude and out of line and treated my kids with such disrespect. I have donated here for 25 years. First time I’ve shopped and will never donate, shop or come back here again. Unbelievable!

Have shopped here multiple times. There is always 1 lady that is just so incredibly rude for no reason. (Heavy set lady) I was browsing a section, and she was near trying to organize it, and she just kept smaking her lips , loudly making sigh sounds. She finally said I'm trying to work very rudely. I left. There was no reason to be so rude. I was not in her way, but she is heavy set and I guess needed the extra space to be able to reach. She could have been nicer about it, but she wasn't. I have seen her multiple times be rude to other people. Also, some items are stupidly over price . I have seen broken items with high price tags. Purses at almost regular price, mind you, they are used bags at a THRIFT STORE!!! They practically want to sell everything at new price

Favorite thrift store in the city, but has become way too overpriced! Gamecube games for $150? Used target shoes for $25?! I even saw a box of opened Walgreens brand tampons the other day for $6. The people pricing items now are out of their minds.

The Salvation Army stores suck. The employee says, you have to check your bag. No hello. No welcome. Okay, so my bag will sit behind a counter unwatched and possibly be invaded by a roach or a bedbug. We give them things for free and they act like they're Neiman Marcus. I walked out and will never return and definitely will tell all the rich families I work for to find somewhere else to donate. This store sucks. I predict this store will close very soon and condos will go up.

They have a lot of stuff, it's a big store, and it's clean. However it's the most overpriced thrift store in the city. It's hard to believe some of the prices here to be honest. Not thrift store prices. If you want thrift prices, Goodwill and Value Discount thrifts are way better and they have the tag sales that are actual deals. Their tag sales here make some things somewhat affordable. The $8 loft skirts are now $4 (that's what they'd start at with the other thrifts.) However their tag system is not great either because the colored tags can be confusing. The purple, tan, and blue tags are sometimes so faded or light that they look white, which is also the color of a tag they use. Every other thrift store gets prices and tags right. Even though I'm an avid thrifter, I only go here if I'm bored while my puppy gets his hair trimmed a few doors down.

Clothes are on the cheaper end! But some furniture can be a little cheaper like clothes. Overall it is a pleasant experience. You get lost looking at the great prices and the store is much more organized than some other thrift shops I know! Clean store and great atmosphere. Everything is spaced out as it should be. Great job Salvation army. I see people donating stuff all the time! If you have $10-$20 to spare, come over here and grab your self some cheap end stuff!

I think the only thing this store has going for them is the organization. If you want to spend a lot …this is the place for you. I’m a firm believer that thrift stores are supposed to be affordable, especially to struggling families. 15.99 for a pair of used kids shorts is too much. Another thing about this location is cashiers will walk away from a busy checkout line. There was literally more than 20 people in line and a cashier just closed her register and left the poor gentlemen all by himself. He asked for assistance 3 times and no one showed up for him. Props to the gentlemen for having patience during a busy time. I think I’ll stick to Goodwill.

This store is ridiculous. They have non vintage items labeled as vintage and more expensive than their new counterparts. I saw a pair of vintage speakers that were in need of TLC for $299.97, outrageous. I was able to find an actual vintage 1950's stoneware pitcher for dirt cheap but saw some mass produced stereo speakers from the late 1980's for $299.97 so you can find stuff but it really highlights how little staff knows about the items they're pricing because they're "premium" or "vintage". If you're looking to thrift I'd recommend elsewhere in the city.

May 25th, 2023 I was there with my elderly employer, she's 95, so she's a lot slower. The store was closing and I understood that we need to get going. As I was approaching one checkout counter, this cashier said, come on, jeez!! Like wow, I know you're closing, with an elderly or not, is that how you're going to treat your customers? Salvation Army. you need to evaluate the behavior of your employee. Yikes! I don't feel so excited to go back there. CLYBOURN STORE. BTW

This is about the best SA you can find in the city, and it's still a miserable experience. If your desire is to be charitable, you're better off going elsewhere. If your desire is to find good deals, you're better off going elsewhere. Anything cheap is obviously trash, and everything actually useful is too expensive for being a thrift store.

I know that most people go there for clothes and my review doesn't takes this category into the whole experience. (I simply don't have the patience to go through all those hangers to find the few items I would like). Three stars because this store price their electronics and household items very high. Very often as much or even much higher as the same item on eBay. Why would I want pay that with no possibility of return. Not very item can be tested in the store, so usually not worth the gamble.

Favorite thrift for quality of goods. Prices are too high though. Literally saw one of those ancient fake leather camera carrying cases that is nothing more than cardboard lined in plastic -- price tag was $39. Then again, snagged some Cole Haan loafers for $30. So....worth scoping it

I was here for the first time with my mom, my sister, and a couple of her friends. Everything was good the organization of the clothes, sizing, and easy access to the fitting rooms. When we were checking out I had bought something for one of my sisters friends and took the receipt and went outside. I got called by my mom to come back in where the cashier was saying the kid I was here with (a 12 year old) was stealing. Once I gave her the receipt and she realized that I was the one who had just bought it 5 minutes ago she gave both me and the kid a nasty look. She didn’t even apologize when she caused a whole scene and had people staring at us. Everything else was great except for this moment.

I do not understand how can a business promote to manager people who are unwelcoming, confrontational, and rude. This lady "manager" was so utterly rude to me, the client, that made me freeze. I was so appalled that I could not articulate a word when she introduced herself with "how long is it going to take you to leave?...what is the problem?...what do you need?...I am waiting to close the doors"..."I have nothing to do with your time". This person had absolutely no manners and showed no humanity. A pretty bad choice for a company that claims to have a mission to support other people. Well, it starts with choosing managers who will have polite and respectful conversations with others, specially if they are the ones who spend the money in the shop. By the way, this manager chose to be rude and made the store lose the money of what I intended to purchase, plus a client. It is shameful to see how this lack of solidarity in the treatment of others is accepted and actually encouraged anywhere, but even more in companies that are people centered. I will never come back to this place and I will make sure to tell everybody my experience there.

This used to be my favorite store! However, things have gone SIGNIFICANTLY downhill. Let’s talk about books: There’s been a woman there “stocking” the books lately, but she literally just puts them where they fit, with zero regard to the sections. It’s a complete mess and you can’t find ANYTHING you’re looking for. Now prices: on MOST things, they’re fairly reasonable. On art and electronics, they’re outrageously overpriced, as well as on many clothing items. If you’re looking for wall art, go to TJMax. You’ll pay less. But PLEASE for the love of God, hire someone who knows the difference between an autobiography and a cookbook and clean up those books! (I bet you’d sell a lot more too)

the prices are absolutely ridiculous…and not in a good way. i go thrifting for a deal not to buy used stuff at full price. i’ve only ever purchased a pair of reasonably priced earrings there because i can’t justify buying anything else

Very big and yet still well organized. Nice jewelry section upon entering, and I thought most of the prices were fair. There were lots of nice unbranded pieces, so maybe not best for resellers? They had lots of nice furniture in the back, but as a temporary visitor, I couldn't bring any home. Tons of clothes, I could've spent all day if I had the time. Pictured is what I left with. Great genre sorted book section. Some lady did run over my foot with a cart l, but that's not on them ya know... was fairly busy for a Monday, but again holiday season?

I'm not really sure what business a donations center has charging retail prices for clearly used and wore down goods. This place is truly a waste of time.

Today I had to put everything down and leave the store due to a very rude employee by the name of Raymond who all I asked to do was assist me with opening the fitting room. I had to speak to his manager Angie that assured me she would address him later. I work to hard and refuse to spend my money where I'm disrespected as a customer. I hope he gets some form of corrective action once I contact corporate.

I love the stuff you can find here, but they won’t let you in the store if you get there 10 minutes before closing. If you aren’t in the store by 6:30-6:45 you might be screwed.

  • 2/5 Scooby V. 2 years ago on Google
I went with a friend who suggested I check there for a queen bed frame I was lookin for. They didn't have any but I stayed and looked around and ended up spending almost $100 unnecessary dollars but I figured hey...goes to a worthy cause. The only practical item I got was an electric teapot for approx $18 because of some hot water issues at home only to find that it doesn't work. I was then told no refunds no exchanges. Completely unfair and leads me to ask...are they knowingly selling broken things and hiding behind this NO policy...
