An excellent boutique hotel. It has its quirks, like brass taps and showers. The interior design an gorgeous and its no suprise that it took five years to build this tiny hotel. If you want big rooms with faceless staff then go to the Holiday Inn or Hilton. If you like quirky with excellent service then Amarla is the place!

It's difficult to describe this place. One thing I can say though is that if you consider staying in Panama City, you should definitely go to this hotel. Amarla hotel is so beautiful. Everything is at the right place. The staff is wonderful and make you feel like you are at home (but better). Thanks again, we really enjoyed our stay.

We booked a week at the Amarla Boutique Casco Viejo. Weeks before, we tried to contact someone at the hotel to get answers to our questions and to inform the front desk why we chose Amarla; which was to celebrate our 30th anniversary! It was disappointing that we couldn't get anyone on the phone. When we arrived in Panama, we tried again to contact the hotel to get someone to pick us up from the airport; the hotel information stated they could have someone pick us up at the airport, again no one answered the phone. We took a taxi and when we arrived we immediately inform the desk personnel our concerns. The front desk staff was very apologetic. He offered 10% discount off our first meal in the restaurant; which we didn't get. He did inform us that it's better to contact them through email or call them through Whats App, The person at the front desk ask us what was our reason for coming to Panama and we informed him that we were celebrating our 30th anniversary! We checked in and we received a virgin drink and we went to our room. We had already read the information on the cleanliness of the hotel, which is one reason we chose this hotel and we read the reviews; so we were excited to get in the room. Unfortunately, we were NOT impressed. The room was quint and cute, which was what we wanted. I know this is out of the normal but, I always bring a mini broom, dust pan and cleaning supplies because I cannot be in a room with dust. I did sweep up dirt. The top of the ceiling fan was covered with dust; however, I was not able to clean the ceiling fan. I am sure many of you are wondering, why didn't I notify the front desk? Their ad stated that they clean the room and do not allow anyone in the room for 24 hours; so I was expecting it to be clean. I am not afraid to make a not so good situation better, so I took the effort to make it comfort for us. I cleaned the room and we did not allow anyone in the room; we do not use maid service. As I stated previously we informed the front desk the reason we were in Panama; to celebrate our 30th anniversary! On our day the hotel did not acknowledge our anniversary. We had mention to another waiter at another restaurant, the reason we were in Panama and when we attended that restaurant one night, the waiter remembered and presented us with cake and a glass of wine to celebrate our anniversary! We were disappointed that Amarla staff did not acknowledge our anniversary. However, we had a great anniversary! We booked also at Amala because it was adult only; pass the test! Breakfast at the restaurant every day; the breakfast was great! The roof top was nice; however, we only went up there one day, it wasn't much! Maybe a hammock, swing or something else to make it more desirable. I wanted to leave this review because I didn't get the same experience that was in other reviews; I had to speak my truth. Our Experience...

Amarla is the embodiment of hospitality. This boutique gem will always have a special place in my heart. From the beautiful spaces, delicious food to the warm and helpful staff, I could not recommend this hotel enough. The hotel is situated on a quiet but nearby the bars, restaurants & stores. We thoroughly enjoyed the coffee tasting with Luis and the welcome drinks. Special shout out to two of the most hospitable persons I have ever experienced, Jorge and Augusto. You made this stay extra special. Thank you so much, can’t wait to return!!

Really great low-key fancy boutique hotel in the old part of Panama city. Staff is friendly and helpful, rooms are cool and clean, and their restaurant is amazing. Convenient location as well.

Amarla was one of the highlights of my time in Casco Viejo. Luis (he's awesome!) welcomed me into their restaurant, Kaandela, to help me escape the heavy rain. The customer experience I received just from ordering a cappuccino alone was incredible. At the time I was staying at an airbnb around the corner where I was having a bad experience. When my airbnb stay continued to get worse, I quickly called and booked a room at Amarla. When I checked-in, Raul could tell I was upset (from my airbnb experience) and he immediately put me at ease. I'm not kidding when I say I was welcomed so warmly by so many of the staff members that it turned my worst day in Panama completely around. Leo, Nelvin, Jorge...everyone at Amarla is so friendly and so kind. As a solo traveler, I felt so comfortable and right at home. While I usually travel on a stricter budget, I made an exception for Amarla due to the incredible customer service, comfortable rooms, beautiful aesthetic, and amazing food. I was in Panama for a long period of time, hopping back and forth from different towns. I loved Amarla so much I came to stay at Amarla on 3 different occasions. Prior to working in marketing, I worked in the restaurant and hospitality industry for 4 years and I was completely blown away by my experience at Amarla. I cannot recommend the hotel or the restaurant enough. Thank you for everything, Amarla!!!

Everything about our stay at Amarla was absolutely fantastic! The staff were so informative, kind, and helpful. We weren’t sure what to expect when it came to the included breakfast and were blown away. They provided an array of breakfast option and accommodated our vegetarian restrictions without limiting our options from their delicious menu. The location was absolutely perfect and in walking distance to amazing museums, little shops, and other restaurants. It was overall such a great vibe and stay 10/10 recommend.

What a gorgeous boutique hotel! We stayed here after our stay at another 5 star hotel around the corner, and the difference in service was stark. We were welcomed and felt the passion in the staff working there. The rooms are beautifully furnished and the jacuzzi and rooftop area is stunning. The restaurant is absolutely fantastic and I can't recommend it enough. We will be aiming to see at Amarla and any other hotel they open on our next holidays.

I’m torn about this review but all I can do is be honest. The staff is very nice, very friendly. The place is clean. I absolutely loved the aesthetics. Whoever did all of the finishes/details for this boutique was very thoughtful and did very well. That said, I was super disappointed that my experience with the particulars as a guest did not match all of the hoohah I read about this place online. First off, their standard room is absolutely not big enough for two people. OK, technically it can hold two people, BUT it’s nowhere near as big as it should be for two grown people— especially considering the cost of this place and the fact that you’re on vacation (not squeezing into the last spare room available at your second cousin’s place) We felt like sardines and made sure we only went back inside when we were ready to go to sleep straight away. Then there was the restaurant which I read great things about. Very unremarkable food. Last the rooftop. Pictures online were so nice. Even if it lived up to the picture, which it didn’t, you’d still be met with a COLD jacuzzi tub. :( Disappointing

What a warm place to stay from start to finish—being greeted by Jorge with welcome drinks and a cold towel, to the lovely breakfast in the morning. Each and every person at Amarla made you feel like you were staying and eating in their home. It is located in a great area, but remains quiet. I didn’t get to enjoy the rooftop hot tub, but hoping it’s a reason to come back. Next time I will spring for one of their 2 level rooms!

I can’t think of a negative thing to say about this hotel. From the moment you walk in, you’ll notice it feels chic and upscale without a bit of pretense. The staff is warm, more than accommodating—and that’s applicable to every person I met there. And the welcome cocktail was a nice touch. The attention to detail in the restaurant, common areas, and rooms was incredible. They spared no expense and just made really smart design choices with the space they had. Aside from the aesthetics and great staff, there was a lot in the way of creature comforts: quiet and adults only, great bed, best breakfast I’ve ever had included in a price—and better than most I’ve had when I eat out—pour over coffee setup in the room with excellent coffee supplied, a well-stocked fridge, nice bath products, lovely rooftop, location central to everything in the neighborhood. Got so much more here than I would at most any price point, but Amarla was a total steal. It’s a newer hotel, but I’m sure it’s going to be a hard to get reservation in no time. Whether you’re going solo or with a companion, you’d be nuts to skip this place.

Adorable restaurant with a delicious cuisine and a very attentive waitress and staff. The menu is limited (3 starters, 4 main courses and 2 desserts) but for me it’s a sign of quality. We tried everything and all was absolutely delicious 🤤 ! I’ll come back!

The hotel is small, intimate, beautiful and welcoming. It is located in the best part of Casco Viejo and attends to details in the bar and restaurant. The staff is exceptional and responsive. Special thanks to Jorge, Augusto and Liz for making us feel so special. Keep up the good work, you have a fine hotel!

The Amarla is amazing. The customer service is top-notch - the drinks and cold towels at check-in, the friendly knowledgeable staff and daily eco-bottled water delivery to the room. The hotel is gorgeous - stayed in a classic room and everything was well-appointed. The included breakfast - so many options and all of them are cooked to order (includes fruit plate, drink and entree). I would stay again in a heartbeat!

I wish I could give this amazing place 10 stars. It is my new favorite boutique hotel. I have traveled a lot and the guest experience team is perfection at Amarla. Everyone went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. The decor and architecture of this building are absolutely stunning. The welcome drink was delicious and in a gorgeous handpainted cup. Honestly, I might come back to Panama City from the US just to stay here!

The service was above and beyond. I cannot think of a hotel stay where I have felt as personally looked after as I did here. The staff were truly wonderful, attentive and caring. We stayed in a classic room which is very small, but each inch of the layout was beautifully designed and filled with elegant things. My only warning would be to watch the hot water tap because the brass shower head does get burning hot to touch — turn the cold on first and off last. The pillows are quite high and stiff, it would be nice to have the second pillows be softer and flatter to give those who prefer a smaller neck raise while sleeping an alternative option. Other than those minor details. We loved the tranquility and peace of our 2 night stay, recommend this place without hesitation. Thank you Amarla staff!
