Modern
trendy
bars
and
restaurants,
luxury
hotels,
cafes,
museums,
renovated
facades,
tourist
shops.
All
sharing
the
streets
with
historic
churches,
colonial
buildings,
cobblestone
streets
and
poverty.
They
all
come
together
to
form
the
liveliest,
hippest
tourist
hotspot.
Walking
along
the
streets
you
will
see
that
the
new
is
replacing
the
old.
Though
it
is
fantastic
that
new
facades
are
designed
to
stay
true
to
the
original
classic
designs.
Well,
it
is
a
UNESCO
site
so
it
is
incumbent
upon
the
neighborhood
to
retain
certain
aesthetics.
I
see
this
as
the
only
place
in
the
city
where
you
can
roam
aimlessly.
You
feel
like
you
are
in
a
small
town
outside
away
from
the
city.
No
skyscrapers,
just
buildings
a
few
floors
high.
Plaza
de
la
independencia
is
the
center
square
where
you
will
see
masses
of
tourists
visiting
the
church
and
museums.
If
you
are
a
tourist,
take
advantage
of
your
time
here
by
trying
out
the
shaved
ice
(raspao).
The
sellers
walk
around
with
their
push
carts,
usually
in
the
daytime,
and
sell
flavored
ice
scraped
off
an
ice
block
right
in
front
of
you.
Make
sure
to
top
off
your
flavor
of
choice
with
condensed
milk.
You
are
seaside
so
enjoy
the
ocean.
My
favorite
place
is
the
paseo
las
bovedas
which
is
a
walkway
on
the
far
east
side
that
overlooks
the
ocean.
Tranquil,
safe
and
away
from
loud
music,
from
there
you
can
see
a
postcard
view
of
the
city.
As
for
restaurants,
I
love
the
ones
with
a
full
360
degree
rooftop
view.
The
prices
are
high
but
the
quality
of
food
you
get
is
quite
fancy.
Well,
prices
are
high
at
most
food
establishments
here.
You
will
find
residents
who
live
in
the
old
houses
that
are
untouched
by
time.
They
can
be
seen
along
certain
alleyways
sitting
in
their
front
porch
with
their
front
doors
open.
Some
are
situated
along
the
busy
spots
so
you
will
likely
walk
right
past
them.
Some
moved
away
after
selling
their
homes
to
be
renovated
as
new
businesses.
Others
have
stayed
which
will
remind
you
that
before
recent
modernization,
this
place
used
to
be
a
residential
neighborhood.
And
still
is.
A
couple
of
things
are
less
than
ideal.
The
trendy
postcard
area
is
still
surrounded
by
dark
streets
along
the
far
corners,
especially
westward.
They
will
make
you
turn
around
once
you
see
them.
And
streetside
parking
is
difficult
to
find
depending
on
the
day
of
the
week
so
you
may
have
to
park
in
one
of
the
few
paid
parking
lots.
