Modern trendy bars and restaurants, luxury hotels, cafes, museums, renovated facades, tourist shops. All sharing the streets with historic churches, colonial buildings, cobblestone streets and poverty. They all come together to form the liveliest, hippest tourist hotspot. Walking along the streets you will see that the new is replacing the old. Though it is fantastic that new facades are designed to stay true to the original classic designs. Well, it is a UNESCO site so it is incumbent upon the neighborhood to retain certain aesthetics. I see this as the only place in the city where you can roam aimlessly. You feel like you are in a small town outside away from the city. No skyscrapers, just buildings a few floors high. Plaza de la independencia is the center square where you will see masses of tourists visiting the church and museums. If you are a tourist, take advantage of your time here by trying out the shaved ice (raspao). The sellers walk around with their push carts, usually in the daytime, and sell flavored ice scraped off an ice block right in front of you. Make sure to top off your flavor of choice with condensed milk. You are seaside so enjoy the ocean. My favorite place is the paseo las bovedas which is a walkway on the far east side that overlooks the ocean. Tranquil, safe and away from loud music, from there you can see a postcard view of the city. As for restaurants, I love the ones with a full 360 degree rooftop view. The prices are high but the quality of food you get is quite fancy. Well, prices are high at most food establishments here. You will find residents who live in the old houses that are untouched by time. They can be seen along certain alleyways sitting in their front porch with their front doors open. Some are situated along the busy spots so you will likely walk right past them. Some moved away after selling their homes to be renovated as new businesses. Others have stayed which will remind you that before recent modernization, this place used to be a residential neighborhood. And still is. A couple of things are less than ideal. The trendy postcard area is still surrounded by dark streets along the far corners, especially westward. They will make you turn around once you see them. And streetside parking is difficult to find depending on the day of the week so you may have to park in one of the few paid parking lots.

neighborhood comprises a Tejas-tiled cluster of pastel colonial buildings at the tip of a heavily fortified peninsula. These ramparts successfully protected the first Spanish settlement on the Pacific Coast; today they make up a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with plazas, churches, and narrow streets Very Very Beautiful,!!

Casco Viejo takes you to a history journey, lovely to walk through the streets. When we were there, a heavy rain started and that’s how we found small nice restaurants and coffee shops.

Casco Viejo is “Old Town” Panamá 🇵🇦 A very touristy attraction with shops and views of the old buildings.

Great place to visit in Panama. A lot of construction going on right now but still great atmosphere and lots of places to shop in the area. Fun place to visit for adults but not for kids. They would be bored. Many shops to buy souvenirs to take back and some shop owners are willing to bargain on prices.

This place is absolutely beautiful. It was such a delight going down each of the streets and looking at the older building and the beautiful square. It's always nice to see history considering that this was the original Panama, it definitely looks old but beautiful and well preserved. I was imagining how it looked originally back in the day, it looks very romantic and a nice place to visit and sit out for coffee or a nice meal. The streets are quaint and narrow. It's like it's own city within the city.

One of the best places to visit in Panama City. If you get hungry there are some local really nice restaurants you can visit. You can also see cool city panorama once you are there.

Must go in Panama!!!!!! Represents the culture very well, lots of nice restaurants. Compared to other neighborhoods in Panama, they have the best staffing ever. Just be careful with your bag (like any other place in the world) and you’ll be happy there.

A fantastic walk around and way to spend your morning or afternoon exploring Panama City. Catch an Uber to casco viejo and then follow the maps at each landmark (easy enough to follow) and see all the sites! I also went to the Panama Canal museum seen as this is one of the sites of interest - and would recommend as some interesting history there. Enjoy!

Really beautiful part of Panama City! Great museums, art, ice cream, and sights. The architecture is so cute too. I spent the day here on my own and felt safe exploring.
