Very small but cute museum that tells about the west Indian community and how they came to Panama. Explains some of the inherently racist policies that were in place up to relatively recent times. The museum is in an old wooden church that should definitely be preserved for posterity.

El Museo Afroantillano de Panama was a treat. Small museum but very informative. The ladies that work there were very welcoming. They made a small museum feel enormous with all the Historical information there was to share. Our guide was awesome. You can feel the pride and excitement she has for the Panamanian History and Culture. Well worth the visit. Thanks Ladies! 👍🏼❤🇵🇦 Free entry. Mask required.

The only place on the isthmus that documents the history of Afroantillanos in Panama. They host beautiful art exhibits here occasionally as well.

Had a great experience here with my family while visiting Panama. I loved the attention to detail and desire to uplift and inform all of the Afro contributions to Panama.

Nice old building. After visiting a friend me tionwd to be careful in that area. There is parking lot that belongs to the museum. Just don't go alone or late in the day.

Small little gem inside an old 100+ year old church, where you can find more about the lives of the people from West Indies who sacrificed their lives for the great canal of Panama to be built!

The hours listed on the website and Google are incorrect — we tried to pay a visit mid-day on a Saturday and they were closed. No signage indicating why. Bummer as we were really looking forward to learning about this important part of Panamanian history during our trip!

I love the mixed culture of Panama's history. Caribbeana dn Latin American culture is clearly depicted within the limited refines of this museum. Great place to start for a history of Panama's culture.

This is very special place and they speak some English. Be aware of the location not the best place in Panama, but just have your eyes open and you will be okay. Small Museum and parking is available on the back of the Museum

Small but mighty and so much history.. (the building is in really poor shape). There's a small fee to visit, which I honestly think it can be increased a bit.. but otherwise really informative and learned so much. You can request a guided tour although it's mostly in Spanish, but everything else is in English so if you're a Spanish speaker, I would recommend the guided tour. A few of them spoke limited English and we spoke limited Spanish, but we were somehow able to communicate and understand each other... We wanted to visit Mercado San Felipe Neri and the fish market afterwards and they were so helpful even with the language barrier, we were able to communicate and understand each other!

I first visited in April 2022. It was an amazing collection of memorabilia of real artifacts of the homes, tools, and history of the canal and the lives of the people who came here to work on the Panama Canal.

I had the best time at the Museo Afrantillano!! This place has my heart. Despite being a small museum I spent more than four hours looking at all of the exhibits and asking Jorge and Miriam so many questions. This was truly an enriching experience and Jorge and Miriam are incredibly knowledgeable. Visiting this museum was the highlight of my trip and I highly recommend a visit!

The museum had both Spanish and English display reading. We had to use the phone for English to Spanish translator. No one spoke English. I learned a lot, though.

Great museum to visit. Small but very informative. We talked to Jorge the director, and he gave us so much insight on the history of Panama and how their culture has evolved. It was also free!

(Translated by Google) It is an ancient temple restored by Reina Torres de Arauz and converted into a museum about the history of the Aforantilla influence in the country. It is quite small, it does not stop being an important space about our history. The attention was very good, we had the opportunity to talk with Mrs. Romi about different historical and cultural events. Admission is $ 1.00 Let's support these cultural spaces! A very small museum about the West Indian community in Panama. The little house is in itself so cute. Located right outside the metro station at Cinco De Mayo. It covers the history of the West Indians settlement in Panama, their contribution to the construction of the Panama Canal sleuth the French and the Americans . It’s a nice place to visit.

The history this museum works to preserve is so important. The museum is small but packed full with interesting artifacts and history. Although I was familiar with Afroantillan Panamanian history, I learned so much more at the museum. I also appreciated that the displays were well-maintained. This is an institution worth supporting!

The museum was very informative, the ladies there are very pleasent, warm, welcoming and friendly. As a Barbadian whose relative worked on the Panama Canal, I felt proud to learn and see first hand what he and others did and the far reaching effects of the contribution made. Definitely a museum worth visiting 😁. Also there is a beautiful mural on the wall outside which depicts the impact of AfroCaribbeans on Panama...it is AWESOME

They close at 3:30 and are inflexible especially considering the hours are supposed to be until 4pm. They should update the hours on the website or stay for the tourists who are interested in visiting.

I loved this place. Especially since my ancestors worked on the canal. I wish it was much bigger with more artifacts because black West Indians influenced so much in panama culture and it seems that this group is underrepresented. None the less I would recommend a visit. I also purchased some books. I can’t wait to have a read.

(Translated by Google) It is located in an old church. It is a not very extensive exhibition. There is information about the contribution of blackheads to Panama. It is a part of the history of the country that you need to know and that perhaps is not yet sufficiently visible. The price is 2 dollars per person. I found it a bit expensive to see it.
