Last day in Panama we had the good fortune to stumble on Plaza Herrera in old town Panama City. Sat, ate, drank, people watched. Phenomenal :)

Beautiful square in Casco Viejo. Several restaurants, bars, and at least one very fancy hotel. Lots of park benches to rest your tired legs and feet. Some of the restaurants will actually seat and serve you at umbrella covered tables.

Center of activity in Casco Viejo on any given day or a special holiday as I witnessed for Independence Day with traditional dancers in the plaza. The American Trade Hotel is the largest hotel and building on the plaza square and often the most photographed for its architectural beauty. But don’t overlook the Casa Casco building for its petite historical glory and its view from the top of its restaurant which overlooks not just the plaza but the canal and Ancon Hill.

Had a great time at the one of the restraunts here where we ate outside. Had a great steak and enjoyed the park with a modern atmosphere. Only qualm was the QR codes are everywhere!! I'm in vacation not carrying my phone everywhere and my phone doesnt even have a QR code scanner built in. No wifi meant the waiter had to use a tablet that was just troublesome so my advice is bring a phone with service. Amazing dessert.

It is a Historical plaza in Casco Antiguo, there are many museums around, you can visit different monuments and read about the History of Panama and Central America. There are also many restaurants around and artisan spots and tables where you can buy souvenirs.

This is a great area to explore old buildings and eat at one of the many restaurants. The best time to visit is in the evening. It really comes alive after sunset.

Casco Viejo is a very cute, calm and safe area to visit. I used this park as my Uber location.

I really like this park, lined with colonial styled buildings. in the evenings, it becomes the outdoor extension of several restaurants at its fringes. If you're a people watcher, or just need a pleasant rest grom walking in Casco, this is a great spot.

Great architecture and feeling of the 'new' old city around you. The buildings have mostly been renovated but still in the old style, there are lots of restaurants and bars around the square and a lot to see and do in the nearby area.

This is a pretty plaza in the day but in the night bella! With trees draped in lights that fall to the ground and a vibrant dinner crowd that flocks to the restaurants, the reflecting lights make for a perfect evening. On new years, this was the most active plaza in casco viejo. Don't forget your picture in the present!

We were quite underwhelmed by the "old city" in Panama. There was a lot of construction going on. there were lines of cars in the one way streets honking horns because traffic just didn't move. All the gift shops had the same stuff. Lots of crumbling buildings and some beautiful restored buildings which seemed mostly government buildings. The police force is out in droves. We didn't see many restaurants but there was a wonderful fish place that serves artisanal gelato and we enjoyed that sitting at plaza Herrera.
