The oldest cafe in Panama! Founded in 1875.

Where do I start? Well we came in at 11:15am. Ordered a Cappuccino, got that at 12:10pm. The food hasn't arrived yet. Everyone got their food before us and they came in after us. There are 3 other tables. The place is not even busy. That rice dish came at 12:11pm. That club sandwich arrived at 12:15pm. And the pasta dish came at 12:18pm. This bland food is not worth waiting an hour for. So, I'll only recommend this place if you are looking for bland simple food at a historical landmark if you have a day to waste, otherwise don't waste your time or your appetite.

Cafe Coca Cola opened its doors in 1875 making it the oldest cafe in Panama City! It's also the only cafe in the world named after the Coca Cola Corporation acquiring the UNESCO World Heritage site location of special cultural significance. The food and service were decent but that doesn't even matter because you are in a historical cafe that once served Teddy Roosevelt, Fidel Castro and Julio Iglesias. I highly recommend visiting Cafe Coca Cola for the ambiance, historical significance, delicious local food, and cheap prices.

Huge menu but not a lot of local food which should of warned me what type of restaurant this was, one for tourists. Food was ok but not great and prices were somewhere in the middle. Service is slow.

As the oldest cafe in Panama, Cafe Coca Cola had the potential of being so much more. Instead of being proud of the history, it felt the restaurant was more interested in using the history for marketing. Old buildings with rich history and culture does not have to be in disrepair with everything falling apart. You can still create an authentic atmosphere while taking care of the place. The only reminder of its history was one page in the inside of the menu and the old wooden counter where the dozen employees — serving 2 patrons — were hiding behind on their phones ignoring everything. The one dish I ordered was brought after about 45 minutes, cold, dry, and looked very convincingly like it was made 2 weeks prior. I recommend going inside, taking a few pictures, and walking right out.

Great food at a great price. The Cafe is at the edge of Old Town. Don't let the look deter you. Remember it opened in 1875 and had Teddy Roosevelt as a customer! Most of the food is under $10 with the entree a side of rice vegetables and cup of noodles. The Ropa Viejo was excellent. The watermelon juice was excellent. The service is on 'island' time but it's worth it.

Such an amazing place! This is a cafe- restaurant that serves Panamanian food and it is so good that we went there everyday! The sea bass with garlic sauce was so good and the shrimp in creole sauce. The plates are enormous and the prices are so good! The service is really nice and in general it is nice to be in such a historic cafe (the first cafe in all of the city). Highly recommended!!

Café Coca Cola is a nice casual restaurant. We went here for breakfast 3 times on our trip. The staff are friendly and the food is good. There is a good breakfast menu here, with pancakes, eggs, bacon etc. The coffee is also very nice. Value for money here is very good. I would recommend this Café for breakfast.

Travelers and ex pats beware! The blogs lied. I don't get it. The hype I mean. I don't get this place at all. The building has a coca cola sign on it. That's about as cool as the 'vibe' gets. I've seen more interesting diners in new jersey. And that's what this is, a diner. Salads, Italian food, sandwiches, eggs. That's the kind of thing they have. Sorry to say the food was awful. The bathrooms were gross and there was no hand soap (really? In today's times???). The STAFF are LOVELY and this is not a personal attack. I am just sick of bloggers exalting places like this just because they are old. I've eaten in the OLDEST pub in England and the food is outstanding. Old building doesn't mean good food, you can't rest on the laurels of your name forever. Look, I didn't feel a sense of history. The food was awful. The condiments were a cheap, awful hot sauce, WHITE pepper and cheap table salt. Read: no flavor to anything. Also they butchered the Cuban sandwich. I thought we all agreed what went into a Cuban? Not chewy pork chop meat (mostly gristle) and half melted American cheese. No pickle. No mustard. The only theme I see in other reviews is that it is cheap. I agree, it's cheap as hell. We ordered a bunch of different stuff for 25 bucks (2 people!) But who cares? Who cares about spending an extra 10 or 20 bucks if you could get edible flavorful food and don't end up on the toilet wishing you'd never been there...

Cheap local food. Taste good. I ordered tongue 👅 and taste great! Do not order meat (churrasquito)! Why 3 stars? Portions are small! And the service is awful.

Food is decent. After some walking in old town, great to enjoy a Coca Cola with Ice. We ordered shrimp pasta, fish with garlic sauce and octopus. Shrimp pasta and fish, good. Octopus a bit chewy. Overall happy to experience this restaurant which was opened in 1875!!

Very cool atmosphere, food better than we expected. Fun story about the cafe that is shared in the menu. Windows have trees growing inside of the cafe!

This place is the oldest café in panamá, the service is great and the menu is very diverse with a lot of traditional Panamanian food. It is very close to the old panamá shopping area where you will find a lot of bargain prices.

We didn't eat. But sat in the oldest cafe in Panama City and had a few beers. Good service and not expensive. And full of history..

  • 3/5 Michelle T. 5 years ago on Google
It is cheap but you get what you pay. The quality of the food is low. The place is packed most of the time. All the free condiments on the table is shockingly bad. The chilli sauce is not chilli sauce, the pepper is pepper with something I don't know. After 2 times, we rather go somewhere else.

The Cafe Coca Cola is a simple and beautiful resteraunt. The coffee is strong and the food is well seasoned. You will not be unhappy...... unless ofcourse you're an absolute prude who refuses to enjoy anything but fine dining and hasn't any respect for nostalgia.

As classic as the name. The oldest restaurant in Panama City and the only restaurant with the name ordained by the company itself! Panama City was the first country outside the Us to manufacture Coca Cola.

  • 3/5 Dimo D. 4 years ago on Google
Cafe Coca Cola boasts to be the oldest restaurant in Panama city. It offers traditional Panamian food. Only about one third of the visitors were tourists, so the ambience is traditional as well. Regarding food, the Sancocho soup was very good. On the other hand, the Bistec Picado left much to be desired. The meat was hard to chew and the fried bananas lacked taste.

My wife ordered a chicken sandwich that truly tasted like 3 day old turkey, we waited well over an hour on a rather empty night while local Panamanians who came in after us got served prior (despite us ordering hamburgers). I am sure this is a great place if you are a Panamanian or speak Spanish well but for the rest of us, might be best to choose dining elsewhere.

  • 5/5 Geuvera P. 2 years ago on Google
This a place that locals and tourists eat. The prices are good with the top meal costing $12. The coffee is good with no option for a latte but only Panama drinks for good prices for quality. Btw, a latte is not a cafe con leche. This is an historical and still relevant place for a reason! The chairs are amazing!

The fried chicken is great. This is more of a locals spot to grab a quick bite. It is also a place to get a cup of coffee and slow down for a few minutes with a friend. The menu is simple, something for everyone. The service is mellow and unrushed. The bathroom is old and worn, still clean.

We stopped here for lunch one day on a whim. Not too many people inside, maybe 2-3 other tables, small groups. Ordered a club sandwich and a combination sandwich. We ended up waiting about an hour to get our food, and it was very basic. People were leaving due to the long wait times. Additionally, the restaurant could use some basic maintenance and updating. Stains in the ceiling, peeling counters and tables. Wouldn’t recommend to others.

This spot is amazing for cheap eats at a very good portion size. I enjoyed coming here after Spanish classes and dining with the locals. The locals eat here. Hence it is popular and cheap. The café has been opened since 1875 and shows no sign of closing. It still has the old coca cola advertisements inside, if I was ever to return to Panama city, I would dine here again.

  • 5/5 Eman M. 9 months ago on Google

  • 3/5 Dave W. 9 months ago on Google
Solid 3 stars, maybe 3.5. It was good to get out of the heat mid afternoon and the Coke was delicious. I thought the batidos were tasty though the family wasn't amazed. The fruit plate was warm which was disappointing. As another reviewer said, not much on the historical side other than it's still there and has some old furnishings.

Food is delicious and typical to the area. Service might be a bit slow to some but its part of the ambiance. It’s slow paced so it might not be good for a quick bite. If you have time to relax, want typical food and have good company you should definitely visit. Prices are great.

Catchy name's cafe restaurant where a lot of local people gather. There is information in lonely planet but when we went there, there aren't many tourists. Each plates have plenty of amount that satisfies your stomach. If you are not too hungry you may want to order one and share it with someone else. You need to ask staffs when you want to use the bathroom. Otherwise it is usually locked.

We went there just before the lunch rush and the service was very slow. The food came out cold and wasn’t anything special. The only thing I would say is positive is 1. The history behind the cafe (being the oldest running cafe in Casco Viejo ans 2. VERY inexpensive.

Wow. Let me just say big portions at an affordable price. Panama’s first restaurant. My grandma’s sister used to go here back in the 1950s and till this day she still remembers cafe Coca Cola. Truly a gem. The food is great beats fast food places like KFC and McDonald’s. The street where it’s located careful if you go down the wrong street. But this is the place where locals go and many tourists. I can’t wait to go back. Too bad of this COVID 19 situation 😩. But I will be back to Panama as soon as things get better.
