If you are visiting Panama and want to try Central American restaurant for the local experience. I highly recommend the place not also on very expensive, it’s moderately priced! I ordered platter which covers most of the famous things in Panama City so happy to get the experience. I am tourist and I liked it :-) so hopefully this will help some tourists to get some local experience!

This is traditional Panamanian food. If from USA you may not like everything on the menu. We enjoyed the variety platter. But again everything was not to our liking. Service is a little slow but good.

It was very clean, but no greeting, just can I take your order. Since I had been to several other places, I think that’s just how it is. It took a while for the food. The bag was stapled, so it wasn't until I got back to the hotel that I realized I was missing some of my order, For the most part, the food was delicious, except for the empanada

This is as close as you can get to “traditional” Panamanian food at El Trapiche. The small chain has several locations in Panama City. I did not realize they were franchised. This is the second time I have eaten at the restaurant, but first time at this location on Via Argentina in El Cangrejo. The food is consistent and filling and the “Fiesta Platter” is a great sampling of a little of all of Panama’s best dishes. Our service was very good and we sat outdoors at this location, under the awning. My lack of a five star rating is only because the building/atmosphere feels like it could use a refurbishment without losing its old school appeal of the place. I do especially love the sign and tiled roof. But just a little dust up would be perfect.

We had a nice first evening in Panama City at El Trapiche. We ordered a plate to try out various typical foods which was perfect for a first taste of Panama and added two small appetisers to that. Food and drinks were good. The piece of crispy pork skin (very front of the plate) was so hard we could barely eat it, but the rest was fine.

I took my whole Family’s out to Dinner here tonight while visiting Panama. Great Food, Great Atmosphere, Great Customer Service. Friendly employees and very helpful on the menu and kids friendly. Definitely one of my favorites while in Panama. Came back for breakfast the next day and breakfast was good too. They also have some employees that speak English for Tourists if not, they get someone to help you that speaks English. The only reason I gave it a four stars is the place needs a little upgrading.

Really nothing special... would expect much more at these prices. Shared plate - a lot of things were fried a time ago, not fresh (photo attached)... Than we tried Ropa Vieja - again meat was cold, in some places was hot, so it was probably microwaved... Tha I tried Seabass. It was OK, really nothing special. Staff is ok, but seem to be really bored... I would not come again.

if you are looking for Typical Panamanian Cuisine, this is the one. The prices are a bit high because this is made for foreigners but reasonable. Taste is ok if compare to real mother’s home food 😝

The restaurant offering wide range of traditional Panamanian food. When I got in there were only locals which was a good sing to sit in. They have a few house specialities and I had one of them - Ropa Vieja with fried yuca and it was delicious, meat was super tender and well seasoned. It is not an expensive restaurant, compare to other places. It is a great value and taste for normal price. You should pop-in for Especialides de la casa.

Kind of very average food. It ain't bad, but it ain't good either. They did have tripe, which is my favorite dish but it was not exceptional. Fruit juices were sugar bombs.

This is a great spot to start your eating adventures in Panama City. They have fair prices, a great selection of Panamanian food, and outdoor seating. In the past 5 days in the city I have stopped by twice (both time for dinner). I ordered the Chicken Soup (Panamaian Sancocho), Yucca Frita, Panamaian party (a little of everything) , Emparedado de ropa vieja en hojaldra (I believe that is pork in a fried breading).

Excellent traditional panamense food! We’ve come many times during our stay in Panama, and strongly recommend.. We loved the patacones, hojaldres, colcolon y el pescado. Servings are generous and service was great too.

The prices are quite high for Panama. The food is okay, but nothing special. If you don't appear like a tourist who's willing to spend a lot of money, you will only receive minimum service. If you want a western, touristy experience, go for it. If you want something authentic, better leave it!

As a local myself, the food was pretty good. They sell mostly traditional Panamanian food, the atmosphere is also decorated traditionally. However the service was not that great, they took too long and did not even serve water for us compared to the other tables. The price for the food is good for its taste and the portion. Overall I would recommend it.

I really like this restaurant, which we heard from our Uber driver. We ordered the whole fish and fish soup, and they are the best we had in Panama. There is a lot of food. Yesterday we were scammed by a restaurant in old city (Fonda Lo Que Hay 4.7 stars), which manipulates its rating every day(! Dozens of good ratings every day, so any real reviews are drowned out), and this restaurant is a major change. I really love the soup, it has a lot of seafood and made a meal for me. Total spend for two is less than 30. Highly recommended!

This place is a must because it has the most authentic Panamanian food around. So much fried foods - which are not my cup of tea. I did however enjoy the chicken and friends loved the chicharon. I would try other things there for sure.

Don't visit for breakfast... It was a disappointing experience and way overpriced. Trapiche is meant to be a super touristy spot which isn't really a good thing but I have tried another Trapiche branch for dinner and it was alright. Food was not the best *Beans super bland *Grilled Cheese was cold and not grilled or even just pan seared I enjoyed the croquettes but the sauce doesn't pair with it whatsoever. They removed the grilled cheese from the bill which we had to wait 20min for but sneaked in a couple of extra coffee cups to cover for removing the cheese dish 🤦🏾‍♂️... Please do not order the coffee as it is a super cheap coffee (Duran) and they charge 3 bucks for that which is the price of a quality cup of coffee right next door at Unido. Definitely will not go again...

I've got to be honest, I was a little skeptical about this restaurant. After having dined there, it's pretty good. I can't say it's my favorite place I ate while in Panama City, but it was pretty solid Panamanian food.

  • 5/5 Tamara M. 1 year ago on Google
Very tasty Panamian cuisine and super fast and attentive service. We had a typical Panama plate with a little bit of everything (fiesta panameña) and tamal a la olla. For dessert we had passion fruit cheesecake. Everything was very tasty.

Went for a lovely dinner. We didn’t know what to order so husband and I tried the fiesta panameña- wasn’t enough to split so we ordered more but it was great to try lots of different dishes. The Tamal de olla was really tasty and so were the empanadas. One of our favourite meals during our visit.

Excellent restaurant. Do yourself a favor, and order the Ropa Vieja. Get it as a main dish, a patacon appetizer, or as a sandwich, with hojandra bread. It is amazing. I've eaten Ropa Vieja all my life, and this ranks up with some of the best I've ever had.

This place was recommended by our hotel concierge. It was a beautiful night with seating both inside and me outside. The service and food was mediocre. I feel the food needed more seasoning and my shrimp were over cooked. I really loved the fried dough and corn queso empanada.

We wanted to try an authentic Panamanian restaurant and was not disappointed by El Trapiche. The food was incredibly delicious. We enjoyed all of our dishes and the coffee was great too. Good food, nice atmosphere, reasonably priced. The only problem: drinks are not good. The Margaritas and other local cocktails were so weak that you could barely taste the alcohol at all. Food was great though... change the barman and you will be 5-star

We just arrived and was referred to this place for food. Chicken soup was delicious. Big bowl! Service was good even though the waiter (older gentleman) did not speak English. For many years Trapiche was one of our family's favorite places to have a fantastic meal. Sadly this has changed. We went there November 8th and my how the pandemic has ruined a great dining establishment. The menu has changed. The items that are the same are now prepared differently. The new social distancing requirements have changed the entire atmosphere. If you used to eat here give it a pass for now and remember what it used to be.
