The quality of food at Hikaru is good, and the menu extensive and mostly authentic. We did have some complaints the last visit. On entering, there was no welcome "Irasshaimase", no polite bowing, mostly we were ignored. We were given a phone with a QR code for a menu, and nothing was said. There was water all over the floor behind us from the air conditioning which no one had mopped up, they proceeded to mop when I said it could cause someone to slip. The ambient music was modern pop, not soft background music or anything related to the Japanese atmosphere which is what it should be for a restaurant like Hikaru. Our waitress needed more training to listen to her guests concerns and not try to prove the customer was wrong. My salmon was to be cooked to medium and was raw inside, however she tried to tell me that is what medium is.... My friend's noodles were to come with pork, there was no pork - it was forgotten, but she tried to tell us there was pork in the dish it is just cut so small maybe my friend didn't notice it. When we did not accept her explanations, she went to the other staff about it because she was not happy. They gave us a discount to cover the issues however, I have been a client and have going to Hikaru since it opened and have not had issues like that before. I have sent many of my own clients in the past years. Every client these days should be valued, I know very well that the business is tough now. Hikaru, pay attention to the gem which you have in your hands.

This one of the most surprising restaurants in Panama City. Food was super tasty and the service was quick and kind. The Gyoza was just great, crispy and flavorful. We were also not expecting to find a good Ramen in Panama City, as it seems that Japanese food is not very popular around Panama, so this was a great find. Would definitely recommend it if you are in Panama City and looking for tasty and pretty authentic Japanese food 😋🍜

Good japanese restaurant with not just sushi, but plenty of classical dishes. They also have a menu of the day options. The weak point was the cold japanese tea which came pink and didn't have much flavour, so not sure what was that about.

We loved this hidden gem with simply the best authentic Japanese food in town. Freshest possible fish, perfectly crunchy guiozas and a broad variety of dishes including exquisite Ramen make this place a must for anyone who prioritises good food over a fancy setting.

One of my favorites Japanese restaurants in Panama. This a restaurant for keto dieters 🙌🏻 I love their sashimi salad and if you go for lunch, the price will be more cheaper ☺️ Fresh sushi and tasty ramen! Recommend 👍🏻

Delicious. Best sushi I've had in Panama so far. We ate it too fast and only remembered to take the picture at the end.

Excellent sushi and ramen here. Better than your standard fast food ramen. The location is a bit hidden and dodgy.

The food was good but two details were really disappointing. - The shochu was served in a cup filled with ice. I had to ask for a separate cup to remove the excess myself. - The staff was in a rush to go home so they brought the bill half an hour before closing and we had to finish our drinks quickly as well. Yes it is Monday but this is not a reason to be unprofessional.

The katsudon was flavorful and the service was good, can't find a thing to criticize. It was definitely superior to a nearby ramen chain restaurant I visited recently. It was a little tricky to find because it is hidden back from the street. You have to walk a bit into a parking lot before you will see the sign. It was definitely worth the effort though and I plan to return

Tasty, simple, moderatly authentic.. Reasonably priced (march 2017). The bathroom its outside... across the parking lot.

The staff were friendly and nice :) I love that and tasty here. Somw food was a little salty but I understand this restaurante have to match the taste of the locals, but the overall harmony was. ☆ UNAGI SUSHI ☆ was the best choice and my fav taste so I added it more dishes. Unfortunately, The belly of the UNAGI.... A bitter taste and many thorns came out. And My throat hurt and was uncomfortable cause I swallowed a little thorn.... That's why I gave 4 stars :'( and Fish thorns should not come out of the sushi restaurant that was very very sad.

Looking for the best ramen in town? This is it, according to me at least. Very good Japanese cuisine in a small and cozy setting. They also carry some Japanese sodas and drink.

  • 5/5 Ricardo M. 1 year ago on Google
The food is very good. Don't expect real original Japan flavors or exact cooking recipes since it is adapted to the region. This type of japanese food is more typical in latin america. I suggest to come if you are in the neighborhood. The entrance is not visible so from the outside of the street so go inside the parking lot alley.

A bit hidden and hard to find but very cozy. Really enjoyed the fried chicken with rice, comforting food and very good service. I was just not a big fan of the fried octopus balls but that’s just a personal taste. Have not tried the sushi so can’t comment on that, maybe next time !

This place used to be a gem, sushi and sashimi where the best in Panama, and really good overall. Now quality is in line with the rest, but price is much, much higer. Service is awful, personnel is only thinking about packing delivery food and giving no attention to customers. What a shame it was an excellent restaurant!

Great sushi and service. Octopus balls a must.

  • 4/5 Alejandro A. 1 year ago on Google
We ordered the octopus fried potatoe balls, and noodles. I recommend the noodles, delicious. The ramen water was warm, not hot, the eggs were cold, regardless the combination of the piping hot noodles, pork, and murshrooms was absolutely delicious. It was the Miso Ramen.

The food was good, service could be better. This restaurant is intimate and was a bit difficult to find (for me as a tourist, maybe?). I really enjoyed the chicken—the sauce and rice was just perfect and really complemented each other. I usually order takoyaki whenever I visit Japanese restaurants and I liked theirs as well. Their sushi and matcha mochi were standard. Honestly, I liked all the food and sake I ordered. They just really need to improve their customer service.

Until now its one of the few restaurants were you can find real japanese flavor, and many different dishes. From udon, curry, sashimi, etc The staff even greeting you like Japan and always are happy to help you or say thanks. The bad things are the virtual menu and prices. The menu is only on web so you need a phone with internet, something that restrict the public. The cost, as many others, its too expensive. A normal panamanian cant afford to eat there. Also the option for kids is not so healthy or almost no so many options , costly too.

Great sushi and excellent Ramen as well. Service was accommodating and I enjoyed the atmosphere. Seemed like there were some regulars who come often, which is a good sign.

Hikaru is the best authentic Japanese restaurant in town. The place is simple and cozy and the service is always good and employees are attentive. I have visited Hikaru dozens of time and have tried large range of their menu. Their gyozas, neguitoro, chicken nanban and omakase sushi are my family’s favorite but we haven’t really tried anything we didn’t like. Parking is relatively small and can get busy, but there is a lovely guy always coordinating the traffic. It can get expensive (specially if ordering sushi and sashimi) but you can also experience an authentic Japanese dishes at more affordable prices.

We found this place is because good comments, but once we came but anyway we decided stay. The waitresses was unhappy faces. During all the time approach was a very low level. Food level was no so good that we expected based on the comments. In general we are not recommended

Delicious Japanese cuisine, but don't get the udon though, too expensive for what is delivered and leaves a feeling of something is missing when you finish it. Other than that, the wings and fried chicken appetizers are the bomb digity. Years later: still one of the best japanese cuisine spots in Panama. I've tried most in Panama. Amazing sashimis and nigiris, quality fish.

The sushi here was outstanding. Even though they made a couple mistakes with our order they quickly made it right. It's just off the street so you'll have to look for it. Definitely worth a trip if you want some amazing sushi!

The food was super good! We could feel that the ingredients were fresh and that is important in a sushi place! The spicy salmon maki roll was also super good! The service is super nice. Don’t miss it, the restaurant is just off the street you need to enter a small street between two restaurants to get there :) Really nice japanese in Panama City!

Delicious Japanese food and excellent service! I recommend this place a 100%. The location is a little bit tricky and the place is small so you should definitely make a reservation.

  • 5/5 Claudio T. 6 years ago on Google
This is a very small restaurant but with extremely tasteful food. The best traditional restaurant you will ever find in Panama. Be aware to make a reservation, it may be difficult to find a free table depending on day/time. There is a bar you can sit if going alone or in a small group. The place is not suitable for large groups. As the entree I recommend the "Gyoza" or the "Tori no Karaage". Also as main course the "Shimesaba aburi", the "Butano kakuni" and "Ebi no tempura". Sashimis are very fresh and sushis are made with extreme care. Do not expect to see mangos or cream cheese within them, as I mentioned this is a very traditional Japanese restaurant. They offer a small assortment of Japanese beer and sake, as well as local beer. I have to mention the service is flawless, very polite and attentive. This restaurant became my favorite one. I strongly recommend this one.
