Such a good dining experience. Each dish had a unique flavor and each flavor was pronounced. My favorite dish was the Cassava Tostada with Tuna Carpaccio. The fried chicken had a salty/ Indian spice flavor. The crispy pork belly had smoky undertones- good comfort food. The sangria was strong. The staff was friendly and helpful. Would recommend if you’re in the old city.

Best food I haver ever had so far! Amazing! Honestly, I don't understand why this place does not have 5 stars! The menu is unreal, every single bite was so tasty!! Highly recommended, if you come to Panama City you must come here!

We left our resort to dine here and it was not disappointing. Great atmosphere. Great food. Great time with family and friends. We will definitely come back. Also make sure you try the fried chicken. It will be the best chicken you have ever had.

Best food I’ve ever had. And that’s saying a lot for me. Price matches the quality of the food. Quantity could be slightly better. Although for what you get, it isn’t too bad. Food comes out as its finished. So no waiting for all entrees to hit the table simultaneously. Which is a plus! Highly recommend the garlic squid with fish fritters. Ordered 3 separate orders because they tasted that good! The ambiance is very adult and subtle, with a nice Spanish jazz vibe. The entrance seems misleading because it doesn’t necessarily scream at you that it is there.

Amazing experience. The service was great, but the food was on a whole different level. Everything was full of flavor & cooked to perfection. The pho broth was very tasty. You almost want to sip on it all night. The fried chicken was seasoned & cooked so well, that it makes you want to keep coming back for more.

The food was incredibly good. Best fried chicken ever, and the mashed potatoes was out of this world. The concolon and the fried tortillas were also quite special, you must try them. The service was very fast but we found the waiters to be a bit pushy (trying to clean the table constantly, while we were taking our time to enjoy the food). For the rest, incredible ambiance and experience. Highly recommended!

A concept that you would find often in metropolitan cities (4-5 shared plates for 2 people) but rare in Panama. During low season (July), we arrived at 8 on a Wednesday night and were told the wait would be 20-30 minutes but the hostess forgot to write down our names and we waited for over an hour, until we said something. You wait in a bar area that can serve you a small selection of drinks but I definitely recommend making a reservation year round. Once in, the food, cocktails and service were all great. The tuna carpaccio was delicious!! We also got the fried chicken which was good. Everything was a bit too salty for our taste but we still recommend checking this place out!

A local recommended this to us as real Panamanian food and it did not disappoint. Food was absolutely delicious with smaller portions and huge flavor. The tostada was our favorite. Ceviche was amazing. We would come here again next time we are in Panama.

I came here for a bite to eat when I had a layover in town. The vibe was great, and the service was excellent. I wish I had people with me so I could have tried more food. I went with a shrimp ceviche and the fried chicken. It was a lot of food for one person, but it was too good to leave behind. I also had a mocktail drink which was good, but I could have gone without.

Fantastic Panama food. Top notch service, good prices. The menu had English and a description of how the food would arrive as it is ready and most of their dishes are made for sharing. The vibe was just perfect!!

This place is on all the 'must-eat-there' lists for a reason. We walked in on a Saturday night, there was a short wait for a table (they don't take reservations). The hostess cheerfully served us drinks from the bar. We were seated in one of their cozy main dining areas in view of the kitchen. Our waiter Joshua was friendly and helpful with our menu selections. They don't have an extensive menu by any means, but what they do have is phenomenal. We started with their shrimp ceviche and Cassava Tuna Tostada, both amazing. If they have the Sexy Clams, definitely give those a try. Finished off with a rich delicious caramel flan. Service was great, food was great, we'd go back in a heartbeat.

Absolutely amazing restaurant. The service is phenomenal and the food is incredible. Principales: Pollo Frito - 5/5 Postres: Flan - 5/5 Fonda Lo Que Hay is currently the No. 57 spot on the top 100 restaurants in Latin America. It did not disappoint. The restaurant itself is super fun. Staff is amazing, super friendly and great recommendations. The food is spectacular. Easily one of my top 3 best meals in Panama City. The fried chicken is some of the best I have ever had. The flan was perfect. Not too sweet but just the right balance of delicious dessertness. I highly recommend the entire menu.

It is good, like really good! It reminds you why eating is multisensorial pleasure! It is a beautiful little place, the menu is quite limited and you cannot go wrong! The tuna carpaccio is fabulous, the octopus ceviche divine! Last but not least the service is very friendly and a few waiters speak English.

We should be grateful for this restaurant. The chef is trained in Australia under one of the worlds 50 best. The staff is amazing and super dedicated. Visiting this Fonda is an education not only about what Panamanian food can be but what a great restaurant should be: friendly, passionate and with a mission,

Amazing. Just amazing. I have eaten at lots of good restaurants throughout the world over, this ranks up there. The chef knows what he’s doing. Shut down Donde Jose, opened this one. Hostess, Staff, service, ambiance, all spot on. Not pricey at all for what they offer. We ordered 80% of the menu, all of it 5 stars. Nice job. Very impressed.

Found this place in the 50 best/Discovery and was really excited about going here. So, what can I say in the end: food taste good, yea 100%, but not exceptional, I’ve had better. And is it worth to wait 45 min to sit? To my taste, no. Overall is good, if you have no other better options. And yeah, it’s not fancy, just a small regular tasty bistro.

The best food I have ever had! I don’t know how they are able to make such seemingly simple dishes explode with dynamic flavor. They nailed every aspect of the meal. Everything I tried was the best of that thing I ever had in my life. I cannot express how truly extraordinary the food was. The service was good but not great. The prices were relatively good (especially compared to US prices). But hands down the best food I have had. I came in the middle of the day and so I saw several families including young children so I think this would be a fine place for the whole family. It has a small menu but diverse for it size. The setting was interesting and not too loud. I highly recommend this place.

Maybe the best food in a while I’ve ever had. 1) Yuca Tostada + Tuna Carpaccio + onion ceviche 2) Pollo frito (deep fried chicken) 3) Empanada de Pulpo (octopus) And finished up w flan, the best flan I’ve ever. $$$ but totally worth it. The hot sauce... yum!

We had a delicious dinner tonight. 1 of us had the shrimp, 3 of us had the sea bass. Both dishes were served with fried plantains, and a variety of sauces and toppings. We also had Mangose (an award-winning mango sour beer) The food and drinks were delicious, the staff very friendly and welcoming. I'd highly recommend this restaurant!

Someone recommended this place while I was visiting in Panama and it was pretty ehh to me. I like the aesthetic and atmosphere of this place. However, I found the food and drink overall lack luster. To be fair I didn’t get many of the recommended items so maybe that is on me. I enjoyed the clams and I think that’s about it. I ordered the whole snapper and did not find the flavor appetizing at all which was disappointing. Also, I want to note, I tried snapper at other restaurants in Panama and this place charges double what others charge. I also tried the fried chicken w. mash potatoes and also did not really like that dish either. The mash potatoes were 100% from an instant powder mix lol. I ended up not finishing any of the dishes as I lost my appetite for the night. The service was great at first but started declining as the night started to set in. It def was alot slower and found no one was really attentive at that point. Overall, I’d pass and likely wouldn’t visit again.

Alright So we got allot of recommendations for this place. So we visited for dinner First thing first, he brought watermelon juice in a glass. But the glass was almost filled with ice with only little quantity of juice in it. Dude! I’m paying you for the juice, not for the ice. When we complained, they said this is what it is. Moving on we ordered our main courses, which were pretty good. They have nice bar but sitting is outside for the bar but ambiance us good. There’s live kitchen, where you can actually see your food being prepared in front of you.

I was looking for local Panamanian food and a friend who lives here recommended this place.. although from what I understand it's veered a little from serving authentic local dishes and is now more of a fusion restaurant to accommodate the palettes of tourist, but I really enjoyed it.. literally everything we ordered was so good and very generous portions, we took the leftovers.. service was great, great ambiance and location.. very reasonably priced. Their menu is seasonal so they didn't have some of the items I wanted to try, but very impressed and enjoyed everything nonetheless..

This might go down as one of my greatest culinary experiences of all time. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The cocktails were so damn delicious, but the food. I was literally smiling while eating the Octopus Ceviche and then the Fried Chicken…..Sweet Baby Jesus! It is phenomenal. I will be coming back to Panama again and again if for no other reason than to gorge myself on their delicious food and drink. Sommelier perfectly paired everything I ordered too! This might be top ten in the world for me.

Hands down an amazing and unique experience. Friend and I who have both eaten all over the world were tired and in a bad mood - the food was so good we ordered seconds and were incredibly happy at the end of the meal. Busy, very casual, incredibly tasty. The tuna dish is an 11/10, a large portion, and we ordered a second.

What an amazing little spot in Casco Viejo! The staff were soooo friendly and offered wonderful recommendations on what to order! The first 7 items on their menu are appetizers and the rest are main dishes. We had 2 appetizers and 1 main and that left us feeling quite satisfied and had room for dessert! The flan was very good as was the shave ice! We had a combo of passion fruit and tamarind which was perfect! They serve all the fruit purées, condensed milk and sweet powder on the side so you can add as much or as little as you want! Sit at the bar so you can watch everything get created! :) we will be going back to this place for sure!!

One of the most delicious meals I have had. The combination of flavors and textures was excellent. I would recommend sitting at the bar and watch the chefs do their thing and talk to them. One of the best dining experiences I had in a long time in the midst friendly and casual environment.

Amazing… the drinks, the appetizer, the main course and the desert were incredible. The food challenged my preconceived opinions regarding certain dishes… tuna carpaccio and yucca? Plantains and beef tongue in Cacio e Pepe? They even blew my mind with the desert, they took boring shaved ice and made it amazing. On paper these are odd combinations but on a plate they are some of the best dishes I’ve had. Bravo!

Excellent food, great service, and the ambiance and music are top notch. The concolon (crunchy rice) is a must-have for appetizers. The menu is short, yet diverse in flavors. Went back for the Mojito Fest and this place does not disappoint. 10/10!!!

Fantastic place! The food is good, the ambience is nice and the service is nice. Also the prices are good for casco viejo. We sat in the terrace on the inside, which we liked very much. Would for sure recommend! There’s not a lot of vegetarian options but the one there is (salad wraps) is really yummy!

Maybe living in Boston the past two years has left my taste buds longing for flavour, but the food here was truly fantastic. Really a memorable meal, I'll be thinking about this tuna for sometime.

This place came highly recommended. Waited about 20 minutes for our table. Ordered an Old Fashioned which was strong & tasty. The menu was online. Nothing looked good to us — a very limited selection & it was all Pork Belly! We asked for the famous fried chicken & they said they didn’t have any. The catch of the day was catfish, no thanks for $20-25. The atmosphere was nice & the service was excellent.

I have visited twice on this trip so far. I love the neighbourhood it is in. The food is amazing. First time was shrimp ceviche and fried chicken. Second time switched up appetizer and fried chicken. Both appetizers were fantastic, but that fried chicken is the best I have had. I honestly went back for that fried chicken it is that good. Service was good. Price point was fair. First time the staff charged my phone for me without hesitation as I didn't have a cable, or much battery left. Definitely would recommend checking out the place.

Fantastic dinner! Each dish was better than the next. The roasted whole fish (sea bass) was so full of flavor. Then the pork tamal was incredible. A great meal on the patio with great atmosphere and service. Don't miss out! (Go earlier for less of a wait)

  • 5/5 Giles C. 1 year ago on Google
The best food and dining experience I had in Panama! So much to say about every dish we had there, but I still wouldn't be able to do it justice. This is a restaurant that you should go to and happily order everything you want on the menu, don't leave wishing you'd ordered just one more dish. Quite simply, dining done right! The tuna was the star dish, in an all star menu! Order it all!

  • 5/5 Monica D. 11 months ago on Google
Atmosphere- 4 Service - 4.5 Food - 5 Drinks - 3.5 The reviews are not wrong, they have amazing fried chicken. The best I have ever had? Well I have family from the south of the US so I wouldn't say it's the best I've ever had, but it is definitely crispy, juicy and flavorful, and in my top 5 best fried chicken experiences. Service was good, drinks were slightly above average.

The most memorable meal we had in Panama City! Everything we ordered tasted delicious, especially the fried chicken was some of the best I’ve ever had. Will be back for sure.

  • 5/5 Jim R. 1 year ago on Google
This place has a comfortable ambiance with eclectic decoration and upbeat music. We both had the local catch of the day (sea bass) which was baked in banana leaves with a tasty sauce. It was amazingly good - moist, melt in your mouth good! We also had “sexy clams” which was also excellent in a very flavorful sauce, with a side of coconut rice. Their regular margarita was good. The fried plantains cakes were a bit bland (they needed a sauce, like pineapple sweet and sour, or something else to juice it up). The flan was the perfect texture and flavor with a nice sauce, but there was a smoked herb in the whipped cream that was a little weird, but not bad. The service was very good and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The menu was a bit limited, especially if you don’t eat meat. All in all, it was a very good meal.

Firstly this is a restaurant that is about the food experience more than to just fill your stomach. I had the tuna carpaccio based on other reviews which didn't disappoint. The fish of the day was buttery smooth and the highlight of my day. Super delicious! Good music and attentive waitrons made it overall a delight.

Exquisite. Gourmet version of a Panamanian cafe. Opened by the head chef of Donde Jose. Menu changes weekly. Now located at the Donde Jose site due to the pandemic. Our first meal in Panama and it couldn’t have been any better. We shared 5 dishes between us, each one better than the last - the final two dishes, Caribbean scampi & shaved ice were abnormally good. Cocktails - also great - we tried the mojito and the Lo Que Hay All set in an idyllic little courtyard This is an authentic world class dining experience at a very reasonable price. If you don’t eat here while you’re in Panama City you’re an awful person that makes awful decisions and leads an awful life

We were stuck at the end of the bar with no room for our legs, see the photos, while there was a large empty table.

My favorite restaurant in Panama City!!! Creative locally sourced food, open kitchen (sit at the bar!), local beers and amazing staff!

(Translated by Google) A small place, but cozy; the food is delicious the interesting thing is a menu with Panamanian options but with a different touch that makes an unforgettable experience the taste of what you taste, for example I tried the rice concolón and the way they present it and with the sauce they serve it is A delight of flavor, I also tried the mere and the way they present it is a detail to how it looks before the eyes and the delight that it is. I recommend it 100% and I urge you to discover in this spot a different and exquisite way of eating the Panamanian. And for dessert do not stop asking for the scrape, I leave them homework. Antonio was great and phenomenal. Literally took the shirt off his back when my mom asked if she could have a restaurant t shirt. By far the culinary highlight of our trip to Panamá. Mil gracias a todos.

Fonda lo que Hay is located in Casco Viejo, the historic district of Panama City, it's one of the best restaurants to go for panamanian food. Le Cordon Bleu trained chef Jose Carles interprets dishes of different cultural influences in a fun, playfull way using local ingredients. My favorite is the concolon, a giant jasmine rice cake fried to perfection to make it crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, served with different sauces, seafood, chicken curry. This is food you can share, so try several items, the best seller Tuna Carpaccio over a Yuca Cracker and onion ceviche, Octopus in a coconut milk sauce with patacones, do not miss the iconic dessert, Raspao, shaved ice served with different flavored fruit syrups, sweet condensed milk and malted powder.

Wonderful spot to eat local! Friendly staff. Adhi even showed me how to eat it like a local and not a tourist! That made a huge difference..mixing the flavors together. I learned something today!

(Translated by Google) Delicate dishes with a soft flavor, local with a right atmosphere with antique majolica and open kitchen, and with a large and long counter that also serves as a table, the thing that is missing and the choice of wines, poor, and more on sale in bottles of 375 ml.
