I happened upon this place while killing time during a 9 hour layover. The city is still under extensive lockdown so I took advantage of the freedom of movement and visited the old town. Thanks to fellow Google reviewers, I decided upon this place to dine where I found the most delightful husband and wife team preparing simply exquisite meals. Five courses for a price I gladly would have paid three times as much for. Do yourself a favor and skip the fancy places.... This is premium dining on a modest budget.

A great little cafe on the side of the Plaza Mayor. Not an extensive menu but the food was delicious. My friends had both the fish and the chicken, and both dishes came with a salad and a wonderful rice dish. Delicious and unusual. I had the mango wontons with a fruit drink. A delightful spot after a day of walking through the old city in the sun. Highly recommended!

This place is pretty awesome. Tucked next to a little square, the curb appeal is very attractive. There is out door seating and inside there are a half dozen tables and an open kitchen. The menu is very limited, you are basically ordering a multi course meal and just deciding if you want meat (beef, fish or chicken ) or veggie and if you want a lunch or dinner size portion. The meal will start with apps and salad, then the main course and includes dessert at the end. Don't let the menu fool you tho, the food here is outstanding. Let the cook do her job and know that giving up a little control over your meal, in this case, will result in a really fantastic experience. Your choices will be limited but they will all be amazing choices, so you can't go wrong. I personally haven't had too many meals out that I enjoyed more then the experience of eating at Rene. Can not recommend it enough. Just go and you will thank me later.

Hidden gem! $10 set lunch was simple but delicious - sweet potato tortilla & salad to start, followed by super fresh sea bass caught that morning, and tres leches cake for dessert. Friendly attentive service.

I went to this restaurant back in November of 2018 and let me tell you it was the best. Our tour guide Michelle recommended the place to us which was precisely on her birthday the 4th. The service and the food was amazing. From the complimentary salad the give you to the desert we had it was amazing. I loved the place because it felt like I was eating at my grandmothers house. The place has such a home feeling and so cute and well put together. Honestly I’m glad we choose that place, because I would have missed such great food and service even the latte was great.

This place is great! We chose it randomly but noticed we were there about 15 minutes before they opened. The owner must have seen us because he opened the door and invited us in. We enjoyed an excellent meal which was very reasonably priced. While there we noticed they were preparing for a large group, which we took as a good sign. The dining area is small enough that besides the large group, we were the only two others that could even be accommodated. The food was great, service was great, prices were great. I highly recommend this place.

One of the best restaurants in Casco Viejo! You really can't beat the $10 lunch - delicious salad, bread, omelet- like thing, and the main course (meat or fish plus rice). Then a small dessert. Also, the drinks were great. If you are a food snob, you might not think much of it. But if you are a regular person who wants to good food and not spend a ton on it, this is a great place to go!
