Cool place to visit the locks. The Imax movie was excellent. Great way to learn the history of the canal. The locks themselves are less impressive. Too many people and if you hit it at the wrong time you do not get to experience the ships passing through the locks very well. Still a must see experience to catch a wonder of the world.

Impressive to see those ships cross right in front of you. Well I say ships, watching just one requires much patience. If visiting in the afternoon, being in the top observation area around 3-4pm is recommended to secure a good viewing spot, with the first ship coming shortly after 4pm

Do you want to see how the ships transit through the Panama Canal locks? The building has a terrace on ground level and bleachers on the 1st level for observing the Canal’s operation, the passage of ships through the locks and how they move. It is the ideal place to take pictures and to hold memories of this engineering marvel. Transits of ships may vary depending on schedule. Visiting this technical marvel near Panama City is very interesting because here you can see up close how large ships pass through the Panama Canal locks. The Miraflores Locks were completed in 1913. Since 1914, ships have been traveling through the 82-kilometer-long Panama Canal, passing through a total of three locks. The economic importance of the canal becomes clear when you consider that a ship passage costs an average of 250,000 USD (maximum approx. 400,000 USD). About 40 ships pass through the canal every day... The Miraflores Locks is Panama's most visited attraction. The lock system now also includes a panoramic restaurant, from whose terrace you can easily observe the locking processes. There are also further viewing terraces on three levels and also an interesting museum.

Really intersting to watch the big boats passing. Entrance fee was 10$ per person. We went through the museum part very, very fast, we were more interested in watching the boats pass.

Very unhappy with this place. Very rude staff, the “security” guards especially, yelling at everybody that tries to get a glimpse at the lock without buying a ticket (which is unclear at point of arrival) 10 bucks for the ticket to see the lock. Very crowded and not fully opened, very hard to find a place from which to see the lock from above.

Must visit. Forget social distance, everyone will try to get the best view of the ships. Small and nice museum. We got lucky for 3 ships at once, including a cruise ship.

Must visit if you're in the area. Best time would be if a ship is passing by. Do some research before going to know exact time. It would be worth the wait or coming back when a ship passes. It takes over an hour for a ship to pass through the canal. Museum is nice too. $10 to enter

The part I enjoyed the most was the two bus rides to get there. Return was total $1, surprisingly quick and comfortable. One star deducted because the 3d cinema was closed, no indication when and if it will re-open. One star deducted because the exhibition was 80% closed. One star deducted because of two miserable and unhelpful staff, plus one other staff who couldn't stop talking, and then ignored everyone except for a group of young females who turned up. The experience takes you past the closed film show, up a climb of four floors of mostly closed exhibition and then, if you are lucky, see a ship going through the locks. An event which proceeds at a glacial speed. I arrived at 12:00, which is in the midday direction reversal time, and had to wait 1.5 hours to see one ship. You are allowed 75 minutes viewing time, but I didn't see it being checked. Altogether underwhelming.

I had a wonderful visit. I am/was staying nearby to the locks. I often would see ships from a distance, but it was so neat to get to see up close in person. I went on a Saturday and tried to be there before 8. I was one of the first in line and things do fill up fast. I was lucky to get an incredible spot to watch an oil tanker go through. Place is clean, a person is giving info in Spanish and English. I thought the staff was friendly and helpful. A place like that, I know they have to keep things orderly and moving. The ticket comes with an IMAX movie with Morgan Freeman narrating. I was hoping the movie would be even more about the building of the canal it was, but it was still enjoyable. Highly recommended experience. Foreigners do pay more, but honestly, it is worth it. It is still a technological marvel, even 100+ years after the fact.

A must visit, great presentation of the history of the canal through the 3D movie in the IMAX cinema, and very interesting to see the large ships passing through the locks. There is a speaker explaining the process as well. Clean and nice environment, friendly staff and definitely worth the 17$ entrance that includes the movie screening as well.

Queue was pretty long to get in but moved quite quickly. I believe the locks are closed some time between 11:00 - 13:00 (best to double check before going). Viewing deck was very crowded but could watch some ships passing through the locks which was interesting. There’s also a cinema show included in the ticket price. Would recommend if you have the time.

A historic and fascinating place to see. The exhibits were closed and we did not see a boat pass through the old locks but saw one in the distance at the new locks (definitely check the website for expected times for boats - it’s not the clearest on this but does provide some guidance on times). That said it was still worth a visit. IMAX was very informative.

It was my dream to visit there when I learned Panama Canal in elementary school. I was impressed to see the vessel passed through the canal. It’s not necessarily for small group to buy the ticket in advance. My advice is that it’s better to check the transit schedule before you go there. Otherwise, you may not see vessel going through the canal. You can also watch the IMAX theater movie to learn the canal. Normally, people go to see that canal after movie finish, so it could be crowded a lot. I recommend that you have a front and left side seat. It’s easy to access the canal deck. It’s pretty easy to go there by Uber and also easy to return to Panama City downtown.

Worth a visit. An Imax cinema with a movie about the history and functioning of the canal, and a viewing platform for passing ships. Keep in mind that the ships do not pass all the time! And it gets quite crowded when they do. Try to find out in advance the time that ships go through canal for the full experience.

This is an interesting place with lots of very entertaining informative history of the Panama Canal. The 3D IMAX movie is actually very impressive. Learning through this place makes one appreciate the fact that the Panama Canal is one of mankind's most important engineering achievements of all time.

(Translated by Google) When asked what is in Panama? most often you'll hear: "channel". There are many places from which you can observe the canal and the ships passing in it (e.g. my balcony). The skimpy can even "pass" the Pedro Miguel Locks - free of charge, but the Miraflores Locks are the most crowded tourist attraction in Panama, and for good reason. Ok, the price of a ticket for a foreigner is several times higher than for a Panamanian, but it is not robber! (I recommend the ticket version with the movie in IMAX). What in exchange? 4 levels from which you can watch ships pass through "old" locks. Depending on the season, the traffic is alternating in one direction, sometimes, however, in two directions at the same time - extra. all the time in English, alternating with Spanish, the announcer talks about passing vessels and about sewer curiosities. The exhibition-museum is also worth visiting, my favorite place is on the last level - a simulator of the bridge of a ship that crosses a part of the canal. There are several places where you can drink good Panama coffee and eat. You can request a free channel brochure (multi-language versions) from reception. IMPORTANT !! before departure, check on the internet what time the transit of ships is on that day! sometimes there is stillness for several hours. (Original) Na pytanie co jest w Panamie? najczęściej usłyszysz: "kanał". Jest wiele miejsc z których można obserwować kanał i przepływające w nim statki (np. mój balkon). Skąpi nawet mogą "zaliczyć" śluzę Pedro Miguel - bezpłatnie, jednak Śluzy Miraflores to najbardziej oblegana atrakcja turystyczna w Panamie i nie bez powodu.

Great place to Know more about the Panama Canal! The people here answers all your questions. The history of the Panama Canal is very interesting. The construction begun on the 1903! It was finished in 1913. Inside of this establishment has a museum where you can see the history, construction and more facts. If you are lucky you’ll see a ship crossing the channel.

The first time I saw a canal in my life was spectacular. It was so cool and impressive. The road to the canal center was not difficult, and the parking lot was wide, so there was no inconvenience. Buses also run, so you can easily visit without a car.

Too expensive for Panama. Exhibition is somehow closed and the staff forces you to go quickly up to the observation deck. View from there is nice but you can only stay 30 minutes which nobody is checking. Interesting place and a must see.

Cool experience. Good viewing area to see ships if you happen to come at the right time. There is a museum in the first few floors that you go through before seeing the deck. Call ahead before you go if you can, to see what time a ship is coming so you can see a ship as you wait instead of just seeing the miraflores locks. From the deck, you can see the two lower locks operate. Pros: Good price, simple, interesting Cons: IMAX center closed and no info on it,

They open at 8:00 am and your last chance to see the boat transit is at 8:30,otherwise you have to wait till 2:30 pm. So you have only one possibility to see the transit of the large container ships and at that time almost never happened. They always pass earlier…. The 3d movie is really good, but tbh spend 17.22$ to see small boats passing the canal and just the movie is a bit too much. Of course there is no information at all about transit or anything else.

Really great place you cannot miss if you visit Panama city! There will probably be tons of people and try to visit when there's boats crossing as it makes it 10x better! Especially with the narration of what's happening which helps a lot understanding the situation.

The canal museum is located on the canal itself. There is an imax movie on the history and construction of the canal at a cost of $7.22. After here you can go watch the docks and enjoy the engineering wonder at a cost of 10 dollars. It is recommended at the end of the movie to rush out to be in the first row of the balcony overlooking the canal platforms. You can buy popcorn, drink, coffee, wine and more and put in a movie

The Miraflores Visitor's Center is an absolute must-see when visiting the area. Situated in the heart of Miraflores, it offers a captivating glimpse into the engineering marvel that is the Panama Canal. From the informative exhibits to the breathtaking views of ships traversing the locks, every moment at the Visitor's Center is both educational and awe-inspiring. While it may not cater specifically to young children, who might not grasp the significance of the canal's history and operations, a visit here still holds value. It's an opportunity for them to witness a world-renowned landmark firsthand and perhaps gain a newfound appreciation for its importance. Plus, they can proudly say they've experienced this iconic site, adding a memorable touch to their travel adventures. For adults and older children, the Miraflores Visitor's Center offers a truly enriching experience, providing insights into the canal's role in global trade and its impact on Panama's history and economy. The interactive displays, informative videos, and guided tours ensure that visitors leave with a deeper understanding of this incredible feat of engineering. In summary, while the Miraflores Visitor's Center may not be geared towards young children, it remains a must-see destination for anyone visiting the area. Its significance and impact are undeniable, making it a worthwhile stop for travelers of all ages.

Interesting part of Panama Canal. Miraflores is the entry To the lake in the morning and the exit to the Pacific Ocean in the afternoon. You can see how engineers created this incredible place to move up and Down enormous ships in and out of the Panama Canal. This place is a gold mine for Panama’s economy where about 35 boats cross the canal daily and the minimum price to do it is 100k. Biggest ships pay about 1000000 usd. There is a museum and the price ranges from 10-20 usd for foreign visitors

If in Panama this is a must visit. Place is clean, organized and well staffed. Be ready to wear your mask in and outside due to Covid. Cost is $10.00 per person.

This was a lot of fun and very interesting. The guide spoke passable English but she rushed us through the very good exhibits in the name of Covid. I hope they figure this out so that people can enjoy their high quality and seemingly informative exhibits. The top floor offers a good vantage to see ships passing through the locks and while it may seem akin to watching paint dry (some of the children got bored) it was intriguing to watch the engineering in action. It was well worth the trip!

Informative. Nice museum. IMAX was not open during this visit, mid-October.

Wonderful place to learn about the history of the canal. Also to view the transit through the smaller locks. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. I could say more, however it's best that you personally experience it all.

The excellent views of the Miraflores locks are the main draw. Keep in mind that you need to get lucky to see ships pass through the locks during your visit. Unfortunately, the exhibits themselves are somewhat limited and many were closed for renovations when we visited.

To learn about the canal and actually watch the ships pass through is fantastic. The center is dated and is scheduled to close in November and will go through a two year remodel. But the viewing aspect is worth the trip alone.

Excellent atmosphere to be with the family. I wish it can be a little bit more affordable. If you go with lots is people you will spend money. One good advice would be to add restaurant. People takes kids and usually this will bring more tourists.

What an experience! Such an incredible achievement. Everything was amazing except the snack bar. What a ripoff. Not so much the cost but the quality of food was trash

TRULY SPECTACULAR. The Panama Canal and the locks are a modern marvel that are not to be missed. During our visit, a cruise ship and a natural gas tanker came through the locks. There is a 45 minute IMAX movie included in the ticket which explains some of the history. Don’t think twice - go, go, go!!!!

Really cool to see the lock system and also got to see a container ship and a small passenger vessel go through. I definitely recommend checking the schedule ahead of time to see when ships will be passing through the Miraflores lock and get there a little early as it can get a crowded on the observation decks! They also had a commentator who shared background information about the boats and the process in both Spanish and English on the observation deck, which was a great as you watched the process in action. If you’ve got some extra time, the IMAX film is also cool - though I found it to be a much abridged (and slightly whitewashed) version of the history I had read about at the canal museum in Casco Viejo.

We arrived at just the right moment, few minutes of queuing, a ship was just passing through as we arrived, first in the imax, great experience. on the other hand those who arrived a half hour later found an enormous throng of people and possibly hours of queuing... The Imax movie is surprisingly good!

Super crowded!! Get there before noon. IMAX movie was amazing but followed no real schedule. When’s it’s about 5 mins over get an Uber and head out as the drive back to the city can be 30+ mins and a friend to 1.5hr a to airport.. Either way it was pretty cool

Very clean and easy to get to. We didn’t have to wait in line we arrived around 11:20 am and went to the bar/ concession area to buy food and drinks while we waited for the 12:15 movie to begin. The theater was a little chilly but the seats were comfortable and it was a pleasant experience. After the movie we will be going up to the locks to see the ships pass by.

It was pretty cool to watch those big ships pass the canal but it was too crowded!! There's a lot of visitors, so they could have build a bigger place so that people won't be like sardines. The movie was knowledgeable and interesting. The food in the cafeteria wasn't so good. 4$ for a hot dog.

Worth the trip to see the Panama Canal. Right now some things are being remodeled. However, you can see the locks and hopefully one of the bigger ships will be passing in the farthest west canal where you can see the top of it as it goes through. I would probably only give the visitor center a 3 or 4, put I got to see the Panama Canal, the ultimate shortcut since 1914, so it's a 5.

A must-see if you're visiting Panama. There were no ships passing thru the lock when we were there, but you get a great view of it from the viewing deck. It is also recommended to pay the extra money to see the Imax movie to get a better idea of the history of the canal.

An engineering marvel. The visitor center is well organized and streamlined. From ticket sales to the open space to watch the ships, it is very seamless. The IMAX show was informative and fast paced.

I came to Panamá to understand one of the modern engineering feats. It did not fail me. I found very interesting although the viewing platform could use more space based on the numbers of people. The IMAX show is not to missed. We pitched popcorn, beer and a glass of wine to bring into the movie. Under $20 total! Cheaper than at home. I might also go in the morning next time. We went in the afternoon and the angle of the sun made for bad photos.
