The stars they show is not a rating, it's a logo. This is a hotel in Decay. We had mold inside our mirror. There was no plug in our bathtub, so we couldn't actually fill it. Our AC controllers did not work and the refrigerator had been removed. Cleaning staff were nice and friendly. The rooms were large and looked nice.. If the owner had less staff who was just standing around doing nothing, they would maybe be able to do maintainance on the surroundings 😅

This review is not for everybody, but for those who care about cleanliness. As seen in the photos, the bed sheets and napkins were stained. The glass stained. I felt so uncomfortable in the bed after seeing the stain in the sheets. The shower curtain either visible mold.

Spent here 9 days. Our premium cabin door lock didn't work properly (door would not opem, we always just got new keys, totalling five of them. Our door could be opened with another room's key). Once the food I ordered from the room service included some fried flying insects. Staff didn't really speak english. Food was tasteless and everything was generally overly priced.

COCKROACHES IN THE ROOM!! At around 9pm, we saw two cockroaches in the bedroom. We went to the front desk to complain and we were met with a very disrespectful front desk agent named Marcos. When I told him that we saw cockroaches in the room, he laughed and was texting on his phone while we were talking with him. We felt so disrespected. He didn’t want to help us much and then gave us a new room. He mumbled something about changing our reservation. I speak Spanish as I am Mexican and we could understand each other perfectly but he was not clear at all and you could tell he did not want to help us. He reluctantly gives us a new room but what made this worse was that he wouldn’t stop texting on his cell phone instead of listening to us and helping. I am mad that I have to pay so much for a hotel stay with cockroaches. I would appreciate a refund or a partial refund or something for the inconvenience of cockroaches and disrespectful customer service from Marcos at the front desk. The following morning I went down to front desk to speak with a supervisor about this experience and I could tell that he did not know about the cockroach experience. He said that he was very worried about the fact there was a cockroach. You could tell that Marcos NEVER told hotel supervisors about the cockroaches. Marcos should not laugh about these instances. Cockroaches in a hotel room are very upsetting and disturbing. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.

Very well located and plenty of amenities. Yet the room smelled of a mix of mothball and mold. There was only one thin towel for us. I had asked the reception for more and they just ignored us. Good luck.

I used to work here in the lates 90s. I worked special events . Started at 16 years old . Met some famous people in the few years I worked there. It was very hard work. It was my intro to different food and people from other countries . I knew nothing of it . Back then this hotel was five stars. We were trained hard . Our capitan was a Colombian man with last name Ceballos . He trained us like we were paramilitaries or something . Harmodios the second captain was more agreeable. My first job ever and it was hard. There were times I recall working 24 hours . We would maybe a few hours of rest and go back on . It was humbling work . Some of the rich people were mean. I saw the most beautiful weddings there . I served so many of them . This job taught me a lot . I still when I can and have time when I visit Panama I try to stay there at least a night . It def is not what I was before . I will always be thankful for what I learned there . Although during my time there as a server I used to dream of having a different life and not having to do that job anymore . I am grateful now . I remember getting there from Arraijan to this hotel would take hours . Getting out of an event at 2am , I would have to sleep on a skinny bench in the bathroom to wait for the bus that went by there at around 5am. I wouldn’t get home until 8am . Sleep a few hours be up by 12pm and get ready to go back to work cause the traffic could take some time . Very humbling work. I thank God that it was my first job. This job humbled me . If I had gotten a job as receptionist or something I prob would have been proud . This job taught me how to serve people . Which is exactly what Jesus says “we are servants “ . My last time here , I enjoyed it . Def not the five star I remember but I stay there because of the memories. As a 16 year old never crossed my mind that one day I could afford to stay there . I had one of my friends stay there too . We both worked at this place . Memories , memories ! I know the ins and outs of this hotel . The kitchen was always clean. Everyone that worked there during that time were hard workers . I would love to go where clients weren’t allowed just to see how much it changed . Memories, memories ! Thank you Jesus !

The location of the hotel is great. Approximately 30 years ago it was for sure a 5 star hotel. Pricing still is 5 star worth. A renovation and redesign is desperately needed. Rooms spacious. Breakfast good. Pool area is nice but the pool itself is dirty. In the room the air condition control panel doesn't work. A technician came and set it but no chance to change or set it myself. At least now it's not set to 12 degrees Celsius. :)

Wouldn’t spend 1 more dollar here. Paid to use the pool for the day. No towels and staff didn’t know where to find. Loud music had to go inside to make a call. Ended up leaving due to no service and had to wait 45 minutes for no soda or drink. I got a free meal for paying for the pool for the day, but that didn’t arrive. Ended up leaving since I was too upset .

The worst 4-star hotel I’ve been to. Never again!!!! All the hotel services let us down in a very, very shameful manner. First of all, almost nobody even in the reception speaks English at all, and those who do, are far from fluent speakers. It has made communicating even about very basic issues almost impossible. Also, it seems that, when your staff does not understand the customer well enough, they don’t even try to solve the situation. They just give up. The key cards to our room were de-activated three times during our stay. One of those situations happened when we tried to access our room when there was a lot of tear gas in the air because of the demonstrations nearby. The reception staff offered us poor and clearly fictitious explanations about key cards being too close to Apple Watches. We are a traveling production team. We know how key cards work. During our stay the cleaning staff left our balcony door open after cleaning our room, while we were at work. We found the open door hours later, when we arrived back to the room. It is purely your luck that nothing valuable was stolen from us because of your staff’s neglectful behavior. Also, one person from our group found insects from their room service food, got an unexpected extra bed to their room without asking for one, waited for the room service foods for hours and spent countless hours of solving problems with key cards that did not work to their own hotel room doors, but to other rooms. All that with the hotel staff that does not speak English. In addition to this, our cabin by the pool was located right next to a convention center where some kind of a religious event took place for the whole week. Every other night the event closed after midnight, which meant that sleeping was totally out of the question when one hundred convention visitors sang, danced and made all kinds of noises on their way back. On Saturday night they made noise until 3 a.m. and I had to go tell them to be quiet myself. As a whole, this is absolutely unacceptable. Hotel El Panama is not a four star hotel, it is a one star hotel with four star hotel prices. Note: We did give all this feedback first directly to the hotel to give them a chance to fix this with a partly refund. They said no.

A good place to stay in, specially if I didn't had to pqy. That is the advantage to flight with good airlines

We arrived in Panama on a last minute trip that we didn't have time to plan well. We needed a place to stay before we could get thru customs. Hotel el Panama came up on my hotel search and seemed like a decent place for us to stay a night and figure out where to stay next. For staying in the city, we liked it so much that we stayed 2 nights. Rooms are spacious, clean. We felt secure while there and the staff was wonderful. Free breakfast was delicious and had a great variety of foods. You can store your bags in a secure location if you need to before check in or after checkout. Centrally located to explore Panama City. Pool area is lovely.

Dirty, run down, no hot water, a/c but no thermostat. Poor service. Neighborhood was dirty many damaged buildings.

I’ll not stay in that hotel even if they provide me with “free everything”. The customer service, specially the front desk women are so so rude, it’s horrific! You want to pick up your bags and go home.

Well, my stay was not pleasant at all…. As I shared with the hotel staff and the managers, I faced several issues during my stay, which I was not expecting to have to deal with. I have to be honest and say it was probably one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had… 1. The second day I was there the lock on my door did not work. I could not leave my room for about 2 hours until a technician worked on it. Then he had to come back the next day to continue working on the metal plate because the bottom lock was not adjusting correctly. 2. I had no hot water in my room first room for 3 days. I alerted the technician (after multiple attempts of reaching the reception with no one answering the phones,) and they came up and worked on my room for about 2 1/2 hours. The water issue was NOT resolved. 3. The last night of my stay I was offered a different room, and was assured there would be hot water. When I arrive to the room and attempted to shower in the evening, there was NO hot water again. 4. The multiple times I attempted to call down to the reception area, the front reception employees, or the operator, do not answer the phone, or I would receive a recorded message saying the line was busy. I must’ve called 7-8 times during my stay, and 95% of the time, no one would answer, or the line was busy. this is absolutely unheard of at a hotel to have no front staff assisting guests!! 5. Housekeeping at the hotel was quite good. Furthermore, room service staff were great and the food was good. 6. When I was in the room on the second floor, it was a very large room, but the items were very very old and not functioning properly. When I was moved to the room on the eighth floor, that room was smaller, yet much more updated and appropriate- although still no hot water. So total of 4 days with NO HOT WATER… 7. The breakfast buffet was absolutely great- wonderful selections to choose from, but understaffed as tables were dirty and I had to hunt down napkins on multiple occasions from the servers station. So those are my thoughts regarding my stay, as you can see, it was NOT a pleasant stay at all. I travel quite often, but this experience has been pretty terrible to be honest. I would like to give a very excellent review to one of of the staff members in the reception area, her name is PAMELA. She was able to assist me on multiple days with a couple of these issues. She was very receptive and listened to my concerns. She was also the only one who seemed to be answering the phones when other representatives would not…. I hope your management realizes what a gem she is.! On the last day management did try to somewhat compensate me for the issues I faced. However, the experience was not pleasant, and I would not stay at this hotel again. It is unfortunate because the location is great and the hotel has great potential to be great again (it was 30-40 years ago)….

Stay away and definitely to not pay in advance..... You can improve your hotel by answering your telephones. I tried to call your hotel 60+ times. Radisson Hotels and Priceline tried to call your hotel 20+ times. After paying in advance, you made me pay again and the police were there to enforce my payment or I could not leave. ...... Stay away from this hotel.

It's starting to show it's age.. not bad by any means, but it's lacking compared to newer hotel's. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, bathroom needs renovations and/ or maintenance/updating the standard. Restaurants and food is good.

Roaches in my room upon arrival. Housekeeping does not clean your room. Most days only gave me 1 towel for a bed that fits 4. The food is sub par. Parties go on until 4am. This hotel is very dirty. Mold on the air ducts. The wooden furniture is destroyed from past guest. Wifi is terrible here. The only good thing is the pool. The gym sauna had dozens of towels laying in it I can tell it never gets cleaned. The walls are fading with paint with dead roaches smashed on the wall. This was horrible

Me and a group of buddies stayed here 3 nights during a recent trip. Overall, it is upscale, has large comfy rooms, a great restaurant, very friendly staff, and coming from out of the country it felt secure and safe. The only drawback is that there are a lot of disco late into the night, and depending on your room location, it might be a problem.

I had mushrooms growing in my room, no hot water, no resolution. I spoke to staff there was no supervisors on site to deal with any issues. Absolutely the worse hotel I have ever had the displeasure of staying I'm. Never again.

Worst hotel experience I’ve had in Panama. Customer service is very poor. My room was left with no toilet paper and towel for two days, every time I called reception they’re on their way and never arrived. Went to reception “they will be right there. Never came I had to go buy the dam toilet paper. Reception never picks up the calls. Door doesn’t open with key. I had to go around to use the other door. Oh and if it rains you’re stuck in your room cause there’s no shelter to get to reception.

Large room. Nice king-size bed. Awful pillows. No hot water. Might be able to get some lukewarm water if you let water run for a while. Seems as they depend on solar water heaters. Good breakfast buffet.

Our room has roaches, ants and spiders and it smelled funny, the bathroom was dirty. You can hear everything from nearest rooms and the hallway. There was not a safe to keep your belongings. The staff was very friendly. Restaurants food was really nice and affordable.

  • 4/5 Eduardo F. 2 years ago on Google
The hotel is located in a safe location (safe to walk around day/night), the staff is nice and helpful, the rooms are spacious and clean. The Negative: The gym needs new equipment and new wall mirrors, the floor area around the pool area needs work, missing tiles and cracks. Also, some spots of the hotel could use some fresh paint and power washing. In general, I do recommend this hotel, it is perfect for tourist/business travelers. Furthermore, if you are traveling with a significant other or solo, a regular room is all you need. Do not let my negative opinion push you away, is just to make management aware so they can take action. I would stay here again.

Beautiful place but not that good service. I stayed almost a month here. Hot water supply isn’t always available. Food menus are very limited. You will have to order food within 7-8 menus only. Some of the menus are unavailable all the time. Hardly anyone speaks English here. Really not that level service of 4 star hotel.

  • 2/5 Troy D. 2 years ago on Google
Was not great. Staff is not very friendly to those who do not speak Spanish. However the only reason this is a 3 star review and not 1 is because of one of the staff members Jordán. He was was the only friendly staff member. He spoke the best English out of all of them. He was so willing to help and always made sure to make my group feel welcome and as comfortable as possible. Jordán should honestly be promoted because he is the gold standard of the hospitality industry. The other staff members were very cold and definitely not friendly. Rarely saw them smile at us.

This was a Grand Hotel that lost its grandeur when the hotels management's ripped the beautiful green lawn in front of hotel by building a strip mall on it. The services are very good but not excellent .

It's an excellent hotel, you could say is part of our history. They are known because have an great variety of event rooms simultaneously. They also have a casino where they have live bands, salsa nights, karoke or lip sync contests, really complete, the best part is really centric for city tourism and steps away of the metro station.

Enjoyed the 3 night stay, every thing was fine. I really liked the friendly staff and loved the Palo Alto coffee in the room. One thing I would change is not allow double parking near the check-in entrance, it causes unnecessary problems.

Horrible and disgusting 🤮 The stuff is rude and overspoiled Everything is dirty. No water, no towels, nobody cares of you. Probably good reviews are written here by their stuff NOT recommended! It’s not even 3 stars, what to talk about 5

Beds are uncomfortable, facilities were in disrepair, staff could care less! Our event planner had paid for twenty rooms but half of us had to find other accommodations on old years night 2021.

Beautiful place and really nice service. During this difficult time, it seems they are a bit short staffed. But, still servers and hotel staff were very pleasant when available! I did find it strange that there was no white wine at the restaurant. However, the food we had was wonderful!

This is by far the WORST hotel i have ever stayed in. 1 star is being far too kind!!!. let me first start off saying, this was not a hotel by choice. My flight was delayed so the copa Airline put me in this hotel. They told me it was a 5 star hotel with meals and transportation included...i was extremely excited to have a night in panama free of charge...boy was i wrong. The hotel from the lobby looks so nice. Huge pool, live band, biffet and all...everything was all good until i got to my room the first tjing i see is a HUGE ROACH crawling on the bathroom door....i immediately went back downstairs and informed the front desk of their unwanted visitor (MR ROACH) and asked if they were aware. Of course he said they have never heard of such and promptly put me in another room on the 7th floor. Soon as i walk into the room 2 roaches are scrambling out of the vent, one crawled on the ceiling and lost his balance and almost fell right on the bed, i seen several baby Roaches too. Must have been the entire family getting together for a family reunion for the roaches that day because they were taking over the hotel room. In utter disbelief, i promptly grabbed my things and checked myself out. Never again You are better off booking a hotel on your own. DO NOT BOOK HERE!!!!!

It is a great location, historical building that was beautifully renovated. However, the staffs made a mistake on the charges (they charged me twice but they don’t reply to my complaints. Be careful with the charges!

This hotel is the worst. Very dirty rooms. They doesn't change sheets nor clean the rooms between different guest. In addition is a very ild hotel very bad maintained. One star is too much for this horrible hotel. In addition In located in the middle of one of the worst areas.of Panama City. See photos.

Our flight was cancelled so we were forced to stay at this hotel. They said they were fully booked and could only give us a room on the ground floor in a rundown wing of the hotel. This was a complete lie and they only gave us the dirty part of the hotel because the airline was paying for it. The room and bathroom was disgusting, had mold, and dirty sheets. The hotel was also loud and dirty. There was only one towel so we asked the front desk and they said they would bring another, and of course they did not bring one. They also said there was a shuttle back to the airport the following day at a specific time and when we went back to the front desk of course there was no shuttle so we were forced to pay for a taxi. If your flight gets cancelled you are better off paying for a hotel elsewhere.

Absolute trash. Both me and my girlfriend got food poisoning from the breakfast. Couldn’t eat the rest of the trip. The shower didn’t go hot unless you flushed the toilet at the same time. The food was so overpriced in the pizza bar for something I could cook myself. Overall dirty feeling and upkeep of the place is terrible. The gym is very small and not even worth it. Do not book here in the future.

Staff was friendly and very forthcoming and did efforts to make our stay pleasant but management of hotel has other priorities. Hotel could use a good overall cleaning everywhere. Internet is like in 1995. Noisy at moments. When we were there there were nurses everywhere. Looked more like a hospital then a hotel
