Difficult to find, to get in. You have to ring a doorbell - we had to find a neighbour to even find the location to advise if we were in the right location plus how to get in. They were not answering their phone when we called many times. Once you are in, you are locked in. They said they have five monkeys, one which is being treated by a Vet. They said they rescue monkeys yet the confinement that we saw for two monkeys was very limited in setup//space. Poor enrichment area for them. They said across from them was a dog rescue, and that there were about 35 dogs, and we checked it out the next day. No signs, no registration nor able to find the name in searching the web. We heard several bad dog fights the morning of our stay, and were literally on our way to check things out when the fights stopped. We did talk to a man outside the home and he said yes it was a rescue yet for 35 dogs, so small. We did make a nominal donation as we saw one of the dogs in a wheelchair, and being a federally registered NPO ourselves that focuses on the special needs, we did wish to help. Monkeys are highly intelligent, need stimulation and the body language of them were ones of stress. We were told they had five dogs themselves and we met four and they were lovely. The youngest is super bossy - 8/9 month old Dutch Shepherd, and we hope that the behaviour is appropriately managed for they are already pushing/growling out/at the weaker more submissive ones. Two had allergies, which we hope are being treated as one of them has really bad skin. So itchy, swollen eyes plus feet. The beds are what my husband aptly described as laying on plywood. I went to lay on the cot in the small room yet it kept moving away from the wall. I ended up taking one of the mattresses from the cot and putting it on the bed. No hot water and finding parking to get into the lodge is a nightmare. The vegetation is amazing! The food and the hospitality was lovely! The views were truly amazing. Our dinner was delicious! For dinner/drinks plus tip, it came to $109+ USD. In talking to our wonderful friendly hosts, they moved here 15 years ago and built this place from scratch. Not sure we would stay here again yet grateful to have had the experience! Is

Amazing place! The location is beautiful and is a little away from any roads making it peaceful and quiet. The family that runs the place is amazingly nice and welcoming and the meals they make are exquisite. If you have the opportunity to stay here, take it.

This was a little hard to review for me. If it were based on the owners and food alone, I would have given it a 5 star review. If it were based on the grounds, it would have been a 3 star, therefore the 4 stars you see. Speaking of the food, I have food allergies and Sabrina was a doll and made sure I was taken care of. Everything we ate was homemade and wonderful. When you are on vacation, and eating at restaurants, her meals were a welcome taste of home cooking. I didn't see any mention of the dogs that they have on site. I think they have about 5, they are super sweet animals & I loved their personalities! However, if you're not a dog person, that could be really off putting. Between the smell of the monkeys, dogs and their poo left one the grounds, not everywhere, but when you walk by and smell it, it it's not pleasant. The pool area is nice, but the deck boards need to be screwed down, I tripped, coming up the stars on a board that was popped up. The sounds are not the middle of the jungle, quiet, peaceful sounds you might expect to hear. The compound is situated between two main roads. You hear the road noise, Jake-breaks, sirens, etc. We took one trip with Frabrice, he was great! We went to swim at the base of a waterfall. It wasn't a tall grand waterfall, but it was beautiful and the water was warm and we swam for a bit before heading out and stopping at a village for lunch with a local indigenous tribe. Somehow, we always seems to end up on the funnest tours with the best guides, and this was no exception. If you are looking for someone who gives you a recorded/rehearsed speech and have everything pinned down to the schedule, keep looking. If you are a go with the flow, drink some beers, and have some fun, kinda person, you can't go wrong with Monkey Tours!

This hidden, secluded paradise provides the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure. The gardens and grounds are breathtaking, the assortment of pet monkeys and dogs make for precious companions, and the limited number of rooms allow for a tranquil vacation.

Beautiful gardens, charming little hotel with three cottages and a fourth room attached to the main building. The owner Fabrice is a perfect local guide. Seems he knows almost everything about Panamá. His spouse Sabrine is a great chef. Si far so good. But: We paid $ 250 (credit card was charged immediately after making the reservation with the whole price) for two nights plus $ 72 for dinner. That's way tooooo much! No Wifi inside and outside the rooms, no TV. Only at terrace / restaurant. No other restaurants or just supermarkets w/in walking distance. Well it's always good to feel save in a foreign country. But we felt like in jail / concentration camp... too much cameras, electric fence etc. So we were happy to leave. Stayed at luxury hotel for more nights closer to the city and much cheaper.

Our trip was in September 2022, considered to be the off-season. We stayed Tuesday-Friday. We arrived at Monkey Lodge via Uber after a stay on the San Blas Islands. As other reviewers mentioned, it was initially difficult to find, but a quick text to Mia fixed that! Upon arrival, we were treated like family. Mia, Max, Fabrice, and his wife were simply amazing. We were the only overnight guests there which made it even more peaceful and relaxing. We signed up for two tours with Max; the Panama Canal/Monkey Island tour and the Emberas Village/Chagre River tour. Both tours exceeded any expectations that we had. Max was simply amazing. Again, we were the ONLY people. We had two full days of private touring and absolutely loved every minute, including Max's company! Monkey Lodge itself was lovely. There are 4 cabinas and all are comfortable, well-appointed, and private. Breakfast was provided every morning and was good. We just ate what they fixed. No sense in cooking something different for just us! There are five rescue monkeys on site and they were fun to watch. And, they have several dogs on site too. The dogs were simply delightful. They were so well-behaved and quiet. We wanted to bring one of them home! If you are looking for a place that is quiet, off-the-beaten-path, and not touristy, then this is your place. We would go back in a heartbeat and were actually sad to leave. We felt like we made new friends!

I spent 4 nights there and it was wonderful. Based on reviews, my husband and I were worried about getting there with our rental. Google maps shows no road connection between the main road and where the lodge is. We followed Google direction then the sign for monkey lodge. It is a steep and narrow concrete road but any car can handle it. We had a rental car since there aren't any activities to do in walking distance and it was the best decision. It is conveniently located near panama city-colon expressway so it was about 30 min to northern Panama city/Miraflores visitor center/Pipeline road and 50min to Agua Clara visitor center. There are some close by hiking spots as well. Since we had a car, Max gave us a key to the outside door so we could enter/exit the premise any time. We were glad to get a key since we left to go hiking 6- 6:30am. The FOOD! My husband and I had the best homemade ravioli and other good food there. You could order from the menu or get the "chef's special" that changes everyday. Good food and drink, 18 for a dinner and 10 for drinks (with extra shots if needed) is very reasonable for the quality. Max will even make his own drinks for you:) The reason I didn't give 5 stars are small improvements that could be made like more lighting in the room, slightly rocking sink and door that jams.

Pretty cool idea to have it in the middle of forest. The hosts were amazing and super friendly. They have a few monkeys there but that are behind fences so you can not play with them. The area was very clean and well maintained. The hosts also provided us with good tips on where to go and how to get around.

Very nice b&b. Best if you have a car. The tours were nice but then the rest of the time there is nothing to do so rent a car if you want to see more otherwise the pool was a great relaxation area. Wonderful meals and kind people.

The property is so peaceful. The tropical flowers and plants are beautiful and very well maintained. Febreze and his wife are wonderful hosts. If you love dogs, you'll be in heaven. The rescue monkeys are separated from the guests. If you like, Iban will take you on a boat tour of the Panama Canal and monkey island.

Super friendly and hospitable host. The resident monkeys are all rescued animals and I was very impressed with their level of care and the huge enclosure they have for them. (4 in total) they also have five dogs on the property which are very friendly and well taken care of. Two of them are rescued as well. We went during off season, so we were the only guests that were booked at the lodge. Having the place to ourselves was very relaxing and tranquil. The meals offered are very good and not too pricy. $18 per person and decent portions. Wine bottles are $18 as well. The accommodations were clean and comfortable and included well working A/C. My only complaint would be the water pressure/temperature from the showers. I have very thick and long hair, so it would have taken me 30-45 minutes to actually wash my hair because the pressure was low, it also has one of the shower head heaters, so the water doesn’t get much warmer than room temperature. The trips that the host offers for the Panama Canal is an amazing private tour and guided by the host himself. We were the only ones on a 25ft boat and got to see so much wildlife including capuchins, howler monkeys, Tamarins, iguana, basilisks, etc. The capuchins and tamarins will come right up to the boat as they are used to tourists. We spent all day out on Gatun Lake looking for wildlife and fishing for bass. @natalie_siebers

Not the best option in the area. Nothing to do around the hotel, you can't even have a walk. Very expensive meals (1 course :18 USD).
