Worst hotel in Panama City. If you are thinking about staying here, think twice. Their costumer service is the WORST I've experienced (and I've visited many hotels in the country). They are rude and would do NOTHING to help you if you need something. I had an issue due to covid and they said they would help me with the reservation and they never did. They tell you something first and then completely change it. BEWARE of their manager "Aurelio", he is a complete liar and would say things without proof. Their "5 star" hotel should be lower than 2 stars. They only care about the money and forget they have to improve their attention towards guests. If they stay like this their reputation will continue to go down. Me and my family will make sure no never go there again :)

The Gamboa is one of my favorite places in the world. You are surrounded by nature on every side. The birds and other animals you see every day are just incredible! They also offer a wide variety of tours and experiences. My wife and I have been there twice and even though we were just there, we can't wait to go back!

This place is incredibly beautiful! I was on a tour and we stopped here, if I ever travel to Panama again, I will definitely stay here! The view is incredible and the property is just magnificent!

Dirty and moldy walls and ceilings throughout the hotel and in the rooms. Cracks in the ceiling, deteriorated bathroom walls and door, and rusty railings. It is clear that they do not maintain the hotel facilities from a long time ago. The price of food and drinks was exaggeratedly expensive for the quality and quantity served. Also the prices of the tours are extremely expensive. The staff's attention was good.

Nice resort, awesome rainforest trails around there. I was there about 10 years ago and it's all the same...which I like. The resort offers some good tours, but getting out and primitive yourself is always a good thing.

When you first enter the resort, you are welcomed with a giant room that’s very spacious which I love and the view was amazing looking out at the pool and the lakes. There are many places to walk around and explore the area. The rooms come with one or two bed depending on which one do you want and the air conditioning is amazing because you can turn it all the way down and with this scorching sun, it’s a must. The buffet is average nothing fancy that I haven’t tried before and noting exotic but there’s many dishes to choose from which is amazing. Overall, a great place to relax and spend time with the family or friends.

Very expensive for incidentals (for example $7 espresso plus auto gratuity added). Staff is civil in attitude with a high level of entitlement for $. Works best on catering to a mass market with one size fits all. Nice facility and spacious clean rooms. Lovely location. Very close to canal! Isolated from other businesses. Food is OK and is a buffet. About an hour from city.

The luxury suite was totally worth it. It was like being in Jurassic Park. The food was excellent and worth the price. Definitely book a river trip to see the monkeys. Note that the hotel was closed for 2 years so not all amenities are available yet, like the gym.

A pretty resort, but ill kept and with awful service. While it's rainforest location makes for great views, it also forces you to overpay for their mediocre excursions. I wouldn't recommend.

The views here are incredible and it’s in a good location for outdoor activities. Their overall service is very poor, most staff ignore you or act annoyed if you ask a question. What is more, they talk about you in Spanish right in front of you. We had clothing laundered and they lost one of my socks, they claimed I never sent it and said it was my fault. Unfortunately for me, they were compression socks that cost $25 per pair. I asked for the value of the socks or a small discount on the cost of the laundered items and they said, no didn’t even apologize. It was the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had. Rooms were not clean, views off of room were lovely. I wouldn’t stay overnight here but rather visit for a day trip and nothing more.

Rooms are great (suites at least) but drinks are too expensive ($5 for local beers, $12 for cocktail). Don't even bother with the cocktails, terribly expensive and mediocre, not even properly decorated. The property is very nice, lots of nature but food and drinks too expensive. The pool is very nice but service stops there at 16:00 and bathrooms down there don't appear to be cleaned regularly as you would expect for a resort of that category. The views are spectacular but also you are relatively far from the city. The suites are great and come with amenities like coffee and an (empty) fridge. If you want ice you have to bring the ice bucket to the lobby. At their Westin there is at least one ice making machine on every floor (formerly one on each wing but they are becoming careless). Check in is sort of late and checkout at NOON! For the money you pay you would expect more. Over the years it has become more average rather than better.

Nice location, good birding, our room was great, but first floor was scary. Pool extensive, mixed service some were great, servers need attitude adjustment, night tour was nice, monkey island was very well done.

The grounds are well maintained yet remain naturally lush. On the first night here we saw toucans, sloths, and capybara walking through the grounds - amazing. I recommend signing up for the evening safari through the hotel grounds - fun and informative. There are also great biking trails, multiple restaurants, bikes, unique rooms, and phenomenal views. The service is impeccable - we will absolutely be back.

Worth the drive! This incredible reserve is committed to helping all animals in need whether it be permanent sanctuary or respite. The guides, both employed and volunteers, are knowledgeable and kind. Bring bug spray, sunscreen, and cash to support the beautiful indigenous women selling their handmade gifts. I promise you'll love Gamboa Rainforest Reserve.

The sound of the AC machines outside room 627 is just horrible, and this applies to all rooms after the elevators (620-627, 520-527, 420-427...)!!! This is not what you expect when you book in the middle of the jungle (to listen to silence and sound of nature) or when you beek the first night after a 30 minutes flight!! The hotel is fully booked and no solution for the noise!

Absolutely NOT a 5 star hotel, if looking for 1 or 2 star it’s ok. Negatives - during rain (which is a daily event during rainy season) there is water leakage all over. This is dangerous as many places it’s easy to slip and fall as there’s pools of water on the ground. - the air conditioning was not working in our room but it was loud! - we were promised a connecting door between two room for our family with young children. They didn’t have this when we got to hotel. We were fine with one room so we ended up with that after 20 min of waiting for them to find us a two rooms. We have young kids under 10 and were not going to allow them to sleep in a room by themselves as they told us we needed to. - the balcony is NOT safe for children. They could easily get between to the bars and fall. - food is overpriced. $26 for an adult but down the road you can get a full meal for $6 that was really good. - most of the chairs by the pool were broken -pool area definitely needs a refresh. -chair in our room was broken. - the tv doesn’t work when it rains. Positives - room was clean - breakfast was amazing (except I’m pretty sure I got food poising from it, can’t be sure but highly suspect). - pool was large and hardly anyone there. -views were breathtaking We decided not to do the activities after arriving here as they seemed really overpriced as the hotel is. It wasn’t awful, definitely not 5 stars and we are glad we only stayed a night.

Beautiful! We stumbled upon the hotel and the Monkey bar on our way to the Sloth Sanctuary. The Sloth Sanctuary was nice. Saw 5 orphaned Sloths that are being taken care of by the staff. The boat cruise to Monkey Island was amazing. Lunch at Monkey bar was nice. The menu is limited but good. The view makes it all worthwhile. Definitely worth the stop to the Rainforest Hotel.

The hotel/resort needs much TLC. Service is rather spotty at times. Great location to explore Gamboa but I wouldn't stay but a few days. Overall the resort gets a "meh". Some cool things to do in Gamboa though

We went to the Sloth, butterfly and frog Sanctuary Tour. The only person attending was the lady who charged us. A friend recommended this tour said there were guides who presented information on the animals. There wasn't any guide in the whole sanctuary. I tried to send a complaint through the hotel but no solution yet...

The tram ride was interesting as we could see the trees and other plants up close as we moved to the top. We didn't see a lot of animals because we were there midday when they are less active. The views from the tower at the top are spectacular! It's a ramp rather than steps so even though it's ten flights up, it's manageable. The ride back down on the tram provides the same wonderful close-up views as the way up. Very peaceful and pleasant. I also especially enjoyed the poison dart frog exhibit on the grounds. They are so tiny and colorful!

Beautiful, quiet, friendly, and located in the lush jungle. Spectacular pools, and the buffet was incredible. Free night tour, we saw caiman croc, sloths and several other critters. In the daytime, parrots and other exotic birds abound. Near the canal, and lots of stuff to see and do. Very affordable for the experience.

I had the pleasure of experiencing the Lago Gatun tour, which offers a delightful boat ride lasting approximately one to one and a half hours. During this excursion, they take you around to witness various animals, such as monkeys, birds, fish, and small crocodiles, in their natural habitats.

Absolutely gorgeous location, has potential to be a paradise but disappointed due to lack of upkeep. With a bit of TLC it could be wonderful. The staff is friendly, albeit not very well trained or organized. Many of them are multi tasking and simply do not have the answers you may seek, like for example, where do I get pool towels? We asked three different people (including front desk staff) and were given three different answers. Breakfast and dinner included are very nice and the view from the restaurant is spectacular, especially in the morning. The room was clean and the bed and bedding comfortable. That being said, there was a lingering musty odor all over the hotel and damage from humidity was evident in the room, which came with its own dehumidifyer (which my husband emptied early in the morning). The pool was perhaps the biggest disappointment since the water was green and not clear, even though locals were swiming in it not seeming to notice. We were given a free tour of a butterfly and frog exhibit which could have been spectacular, but was in fact a little sad and empty, with just a few survivors lurching around. The sloth rescue was actually very nice and informative as well as the night time safari. Overall, it´s fine for a one night weekend getaway as long as you don´t have high expectations, just remember to bring your own hair dryer.

This review is taking into consideration price to value at approximately $170/night, and the hotel representing itself as a 5-star resort. IF this hotel claimed to be the 2-star hotel it truly is and charged less for everything, I would be giving a 5 star review. I was largely disappointed in hotel during a 3-night stay with my teen daughter. The good: the lobby is comfortable and clean, the pool is nice, the staff were mostly friendly (with some notable exceptions), guests are provided with a free bottle of water each day, there is plenty of free parking, the campus is large and beautiful with a short but well-maintained hiking path, and some very good third-party vendors at the hotel (the zipline and the bike rental companies were great), linens and towels were clean, the balcony is huge and features a hammock that my daughter loved, and there is a truly beautiful view. The bad and ugly: The woman who checked me in was unwelcoming and provided no information about hotel amenities other than where/when to find breakfast. The hotel is only a few stories high, but has unendingly long hallways lined with guest rooms, meaning long walks to and from your room if you’re at the end of the hall like we were. The room was dated and humid, the furniture was old and starting to break down, the mini fridge was small and not very cold, and a phone was strikingly absent. The bathroom was large but dingy with paint drips across the mirror, a broken sink plug, filthy light switches, a broken electric socket, a hairdryer which only blew cold air, and every caulked seam of the shower was mildewed. For the first two nights we had painfully slow lobby wi-fi and very weak/no wi-fi or cell service in the room. The wi-fi only worked suitably on the final day. We were awoken at 5:30am on day 1 by what sounded like a loose metal fan blade slamming around in the AC intake. On our second night there was an electrical failure at the hotel (NOT an area-wide outage) and rooms were without power for 6 hrs+. Housekeeping didn’t make it to our room until 4-5pm daily. The poolside furniture is grubby and there were several clearly broken chairs. The pool bar was a disaster- think $12 piña colada that was nothing more than murky ice water and a small shot of rum in a juice glass garnished with an unripe pineapple slice. The breakfast buffet had a fairly good selection of items, and I was satisfied with the overall quality and presentation of food, but every other dining option in the hotel was overpriced and underwhelming. The Monkey Bar, the most reasonable option, was just meh. The hotel is largely unaccommodating and do not offer transportation to the many nearby hiking paths, Summit Zoo/Park, or canal locks, nor do they provide info about these local attractions. The only thing they want to provide are services you have to pay big $ for. We took their only free offering, a “night safari” where the guide fed a crocodile so tourist could posed for pics with it... BUS LOADS of tourist were dropped off at the door daily. Huge crowds clog up the lobby, forming long lines to the bathrooms as tour groups are called from a loudspeaker. Not exactly relaxing. Monday morning I waited at the tour desk for ages before the nice bellman called an employee to assist us and we learned that the tram/sanctuary are closed “every Monday for maintenance.” I don’t mind this, but there is nothing telling you on their “hours of operation” sign and no one informed me at check-in. I felt badly for a couple I met on my last day who were stranded at the hotel without a car and feeling terribly ripped off (the resort wouldn’t pick them up from the airport due to a delayed flight and, not speaking Spanish and without a smartphone, had to figure out how to get a $90 taxi to the hotel). If you set your expectations low and don’t mind overpaying for everything, this place is totally fine. If you’d rather save a few hundred dollars and get better quality service and proper rooms, stay anywhere else. All in all, this resort felt like a disorganized money grab.

Spent a week here and did the trip as an all-inclusive, and the things that you can see here are not available in the city. Nor anywhere in the US. The place shows its age, but it is clean and comfy. The cleaning staff did a fantastic job in our room every day. 👏

We visited for the tram tour, the sloth sanctuary and the boat trip. We purchased the tickets on arrival. The boat trip was the highlight, with the guides knowing exactly where to find the animals along the shore. The tram was interesting but didn't really see much wildlife. We were able to see sloths up close in the sanctuary and the carers were knowledgeable and invited questions whilst they held and fed them.

This is a nice family friendly place to go to if you want to experience the rainforest in Panama. The views are great. There are a lot of activities you can do that are provided by the hotel so it's easy to have something fun to do each day. There are a few hiking trails outside of the resort as well as one on the resort grounds that's about 40 minutes in and out if you take your time to enjoy the trail. I paid for the meal plan when I reserved my room and that covers all three meals each day. I would recommend getting it. Outside of the resort and its planned activities there really isn't much else to do so the resort is where you will spend pretty much all of your time. There is a small store in the town just outside of the resort to get a few things that you may need but really nothing else.

Excellent experience of a rain forest and an hours drive from Panama City. Best of both the worlds. This place also has introduced zip lining a fun place for the young and old. And yes if you are a butterfly enthusiast and want to say hi to a sloth Gambao is the place to visit.

We read many reviews and had mixed feeling based off of what we read. People either seem to love this place or not. You can add us to the group that loved it! We thought the resort was very nice and was perfect for our family of four. We booked the #MeetGamboa package for 1 night and would highly recommended it. We were able to do many of the tours they provide to experience the rainforest. Our favorites were the boat tour of Lake Gutan with a trip to "Monkey Island" and the Night Safari that is included with any overnight stay at the resort. When we added up all the tours, meals, drinks, etc. the package really paid for itself. While not the fanciest 5-Star resort, it did not give us the impression of being "run down" as others seemed to indicate. We say many cleaning, painting, etc. all around the resort during our stay. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Panama

Incredible property, so much history here. Built by Canal Zone workers and the nearby town of Gambia is such a gem to visit. The property is very accessible to do the air tram, zip line, monkey island tours. Surreal experience.

If you are in Panama for only a couple, three days and want to get a quick experience of the jungle/rainforest instead of the big city, I can strongly recommend the GRR. My family and I stayed for a three day, two night weekday vacation in August 2023. The facilities were very nice. The campus/property beautiful and secure. The staff was helpful and welcoming. The meals were excellent but surprisingly short of Panamanian dishes. The room was well equipped with a beautiful view, comfortable beds, air conditioning, dehumidifier, WiFi router in the room, mini fridge, and hot water. The butterfly garden/orchids and vanilla/poison dart frogs/sloth rescue was an activity well worth adding to the stay. The night tour for animals was interesting and comfortable. You are riding in an open vehicle with a guide pointing out (and sometimes bribing) the wildlife along the way. True: if you have lived in Panama other than in Panama City for some months or more, you have likely seen all of this in the wild walking to and from your house. But if you are trying to choose a stay that will give you a true-ish taste of Panama, this can be a great choice. The Jungle Canopy Gondola and Observation Tower trip is great. And, if you are concerned that heights might be a problem (if heights are a problem for you or a loved one), my younger daughter (who has a strong problem with heights) says this tour was amazingly comfortable. Even though you are in a gondola being carried above the lower trees and below the upper canopy, there was little feeling of being way above the ground. The observation tower was a bit of a climb (spiraling ramp to a platform above the tallest trees with a 360 degree view) but was built such that it did not feel like It was a long way down. We did not do the fishing boat ride, the canal and monkeys boat ride or the native village boat ride as we have done and seen all of those in everyday life over the years. I hope this helps you make a decision.

I had the pleasure to spend 10 days here. A really nice place, situated well, deep in the jungle, the scenery is breathtaking. The apartments are good and cozy. Although it advertise itself as a 5-star hotel, but if I looked at the service they gave I would consider it is really far away from even any star. The doorlock stopped working in the middle of my stay, and they couldn’t fix it, so I had to have my door open for the last 5 days what was kinda uncomfortable. The food was tasty, but they served really small portions, even the buffet was limited. If we had a question, we had to spend about 30-40 minutes at the reception for nothing, the receptionists were always on the phone all the time and had nice conversations in front of you without any disturbance. Probably this non-caring situation happened because of the lockdown, and it was obvious they didn’t have enough staff, the maid who cleaned your room cleaned the pool afterwards, served you the coffee an hour later in the cafe and you could even meet her at the reception desk as well. It was a bit weird, but this might be the reason they could not even complete anything what we asked for.

I have no idea how this place is listed as a 5 star hotel, it's 3 at best. The surrounding is really nice and some of the activities are worthwhile. However, it's poorly managed and super disorganized. I signed up for the excursions online which was ignored and then again at check in. Then when I went to the first excursion they told me I had signed up incorrectly and instead of asking me to fix it on return they had me sit on a hot platform in the sun waiting for an hour while everyone else did the excursion just to go back to the hotel, sign up again, and do it again. Really poor service and no one would acknowledge this. The property itself is also quite outdated. The boat excursion was the best part but they fed the animals which I didn't care for. Room was fine and the views are nice. Food was also ok but be careful about the "meal package" they sell you on, I was told to buy it but I wasn't able to partake in 2 of them due to timing so I was pretty ripped off by this.

The Gamboa Rainforest Reserve offers an excellent experience for visitors. Starting from Panama City, you can easily reach the reserve by following "Avenida Omar Torrijos Herrera" with a rental car, which is a cost-effective option (20-40$ per Day) compared to tours with hotel pickups that can be quite expensive (+150$). At the reserve, you'll find a variety of exciting activities to choose from, including walking tours, a Teleferico ride, and a captivating boat trip on the canal where you can observe animals such as crocodiles, monkeys, and sloths. The reserve also houses a sloth sanctuary, where you can get close to these animals m. You can conveniently book these activities in the lobby of the reserve, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. While the reserve does offer overnight accommodations, we opted for a day trip and returned to Panama City in the afternoon. For lunch, the on-site restaurant serves a delicious selection of sandwiches, burgers, and seafood. You can assess the pricing and the incredible wildlife we encountered during our visit in the attached picture to determine if it meets your expectations.

The hotel is in a privileged location surrounded by nature. It's not a five star hotel by European standards but the interior is impressive. However, there was one staff member, a waitress named Katharine, who was very rude and unprofessional, openly making fun of us to her colleagues, made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome and overall affected how we felt at the hotel. I informed the hotel regarding this behaviour but they never bothered to reply.

We went to the Gamboa Rainforest Reserve for a 3 hour fishing trip, booked through the hotel tour desk, and it was fantastic! The scenery alone is worth the trip as you cruise down the Panama Canal, past the large ships, and then back into the lake system. We saw snail kites galore so it’s a great spot if you enjoy birds. The guide was terrific and the fishing fantastic! I was hauling in peacock bass like crazy as was my friend, many of which were large enough to keep. The highlight of the day was trolling for snook! My friend hooked one first and it was huge and a fighter! Then it was my turn and I got a good one as well. When we returned, the guide cleaned and filleted all of our fish (much to the joy of the waiting crocodile) and then took us up to the hotel where they cooked them for us. Lunch on the veranda overlooking the lagoon with our own fresh caught fish was the perfect end to a perfect day!

Beautiful hotel with an amazing view! You can also here the howler monkeys and ever night is a small Jungle Night Tour in a car. The pool is good, the library is amazing, the hotel even has a cinema and a pool room! Only thing which wasn’t great, were the mosquitos…

There are a lot of positives about the hotel. It has a stunning lobby and overlook of the Chagres River. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the hammock on the balcony was very nice for an afternoon rest. The Night Safari rides are wonderful for kids and adults alike, I saw capybaras and owls though it really depends on how lucky you get. The pool area is a little run down. The tennis courts are not usable. The food was okay-- The included breakfast was good and the Monkey Bar has some good items on the menu. Unlike others who mentioned long check in times, we were checked in within minutes. The tours (aerial tram and Gatun Lake boat tour) offered by the hotel were great! You can also get Ubers at the hotel, but be prepared to wait about 30 minutes.

Nice enough place, needs tome TLC as it is showing alot of wear and tear and lack of maintenance. Staff is relatively friendly, great buffet breakfast, huge pool, all rooms have a hammock and a view, 20 minute evening wildlife tour included. Paid meals are a bit pricey for what they are (food felt like it was frozen vs. cooked fresh). Great place for a single night stay to check it out but not much going on in the area and onsite activities are all on premises and priced a bit high for what they are.

Great place. I've been a 7 times over the last 6 months and this was by far the best. Normally the service is shocking and that's putting it lightly. We go back so much as the area is amazing and we love the hikes. This time it was great. We got a free upgrade and had a lovely stay.

Gamboa was by far the best part of our trip to Panama. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. There is wildlife all around the Reserve. there are a lot of activities to do during the day or you just relax in the beautiful pool. I will absolutely be staying here again next time I come to Panama.

Crabby waitress got my order wrong TWICE. Dirty placemats. Icky bathroom. The chocolate cake was wonderful, so 2 stars instead of one.

It's a amazing place among the nature. We loved it the fauna and flora and the fresh air, as well.

What a wonderful place and experience. The staff overall were asking and helpful, the property is vast and seems to be getting it's TLC regularly, the different activities nearby were really nicely done. It was a relaxing getaway for three nights.

Rooms were tired and a bit grubby. The bedlinen and bathroom facilities were clean. However, the floor in the bathroom and the bedroom was not. The shelves and edges of the stairs had thick dust. The food was of poor quality and the buffet in the evening was limited. The snack bar served small meals, which varied, but were mostly OK and cheaper than the buffet. When we were there mostly the sun chairs were away and the other bar and snack bar by the pool was shut. The actual views and location are perfect. The exhibitions and trips within the park are also well worth doing. This makes the poor housekeeping, maintenance and food quality even more annoying.

This is a fun place to stay in the rainforest. We went with a 3 and 4 year old and stayed for 2 nights. There was plenty to do between the pool, hikes, and tours. The grounds we filled with lots of birds and there seemed to be a mix of all types of travelers.

Beautiful property. I had dinner here one night and the seafood platter was delicious. 3 of us ate it and there were still leftovers. We went back the next day for lunch. We were greeted by a golf instructor and he told us about a guided and self guided tour that we could join since we purchased a meal. Otherwise, the grounds are for hotel guests only. We opted for the self guided tour and saw a variety of birds. Highly recommend.

Been here twice. Great place for nature lovers. The hotel lobby has a tour office offering a package of 3 different tours; tram and hike, boat, and animal/butterfly sanctuary.

Nice place. We only did the sloth experience- we saw 3 from far away and 6 that lived there closer up. There is a short walk to take through a frog, turtle, and butterfly habitat. Try to plan your visit times around rush hour- it's difficult to get an Uber back to the city.

As a birdwatcher enthusiast this is the place as well as the canopy tower. Food in the restaurant is good. Service in the snack bar is sub par. Rooms have been sort of refurbished and they are charming in their way. For a bird and nature enthusiast, this is enough for me

Unfortunately our room smelled moldy and mildewy. The shower had black mold on the caulking, shower amenities broken or empty, and the vanity mirror was hanging by one screw. Food was just okay and really pricey. Staff wipe tables and clear used items fast but attention to detail is lacking. The benches had all the old food and people's hairs all over it like nothing gets wiped down but the tables. Good parts-location with a nice lake view. The main lobby is nicely kept and welcoming. Overall we wouldn't stay again. We would take another sanctuary tour and tram ride but that's about all. With some good investment from the owners it could be a real 5 star but at best a 3 star.

Came to visit my brother in Panama with my mother and niece and nephew. We stayed one night in March. Weather was beautiful. Scenery is amazing. Tours were pretty cool. Highly recommend the jungle tram. The staff was mostly wonderful. Must mention that management is very disappointing. For a 5 star hotel they forgot about special arrangements made for nephews birthday. They told us to arrive early for tours only to find out tours were canceled so we waited for 5hrs in the lobby for our rooms to be ready. We even had to pay $85 for breakfast while waiting. We had buffet 4 times. All four times food was empty in some offerings and not refilled. The uncovered food like salads and fruit often had flies on them and even a giant beetle once. They give you complementary snack coupons but beware it's very confusing as to what u get with it. I would suggest you take the tours but skip staying at the hotel. Definitely not worth the money.
