Tobago Island is 20km from Panama City. Take the ferry from the Causeway for $24.00 round trip, & 45 minute trip each way. I planned on staying from 8:00am to 4:00pm, but got lucky and was able to board an earlier ferry to return. Please note: you have to decide what time to return when you purchase your tickets and they do not have to honor your schedule change. Bring cash if you plan on eating while on the island. There is also a fee for the restrooms & shower. Beach lounge chairs rental fee is $10.00. There is a small hut right before the beach that sell the best lobster “corn “ empanadas. Most others sell tropical drinks. Bottle water is $1-$1.50. Try & bring everything that you will need like sunblock, towels, swimsuits....no shopping area. You can also go hiking up the road, but most of the island away from the beach & main area is nature preserve.

I visited Taboga Island just for two weeks so my perspective is more touristic than anything else. Local people are very nice here. Also known as the "Island of Flowers", is a volcanic island in the Gulf of Panama, about 20 km from Panama City. Around 1,600 inhabitants that are mostly Panamanians and just a few foreigners that have made it their home. I encounter few Americans living in the island that they come over to visit and fall in love and decided to move and retired here. A postal Paradise to enjoy life and breathe deeply. The history of the island dates back to the days of pirates and was a popular rest stop for Captain Morgan and his crew. It’s also known for having the second oldest church in Latin America and it’s colorful flowers throughout the town. Flowers at the church are plastic, by the way. Besides relaxing and enjoying the playa you can walk through the quaint and colorful town, people are nice and open to talk and tell you stories about the town. As the Panama Canal is near, there is a constant coming and going of big ships. I have a blast just collecting peaches of colorful glasses on the beach and learning about fishing.

The island is divine and has everything (restaurants, shops and hotels). The town is super clean, colorful and quiet. The only thing to improve is the cleanliness on one of the beaches (it has a lot of garbage in the sand and a garbage can in the mountains).

Charming island. Do not go on weekends, it will be too crowded. Absolutely go on a weekday. Very very easy to get to (easier than going to the Pacific beaches imo), you just take a ferry from the end of the Causeway. I went with Taboga Express, lots of available departures and only a 30min ride. The island had very good walkways, was clean and full of flowers, and I saw no garbage. You can rent parasols, chairs, and use of bathroom/showers. There are numerous places for finger food or fish close to the beach area. My suggestion for you: take the last ferry (3pm) and arrange a hotel overnight. When you get to the island, the day trippers will be already packing up to leave. Then you will have the beach to yourself in the afternoon, as well as early in the morning the next day before the ferry arrives. Leave around 11 or 1. The only difficult part might be finding a place for dinners or drink. It's a very sleepy town. But hotel Vereda Tropical serves dinner from 630 to 830pm.

Getting here from Panama City is easy and affordable. We needed to have a negative Covid test within 48 hours before we could purchase our ticket. The ferry ride was beautiful, as we passed by ships waiting to cross the canal. The island was beautiful, with blue waters and a shore filled with smooth rocks and shells. The small restaurants were family owned, with fresh seafood with great views of the Pacific Ocean.

Taboga is an Island for people who want to escape from busy and noisy city life, relax, connect with the nature and just enjoy the life. It is worth to visit quiet, peaceful island with couple of sandy beaches, pelican resort, second oldest Catholic Churches in Latin America and many more attractions. There are few lovely hotels to stay in.

Taboga Island is beautiful. The way to get to the island is by ferry that leaves Flamenco Island on the Amador causeway; The trip is 30 minutes to reach the island. The beach is clear water and white sand. It has a restaurant, craft shops and a hill called the cross from which the entire island can be seen; I recommend it, the view is impressive. The cost is modest and accessible. You can get food, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks that are not glass.

Best beaches close to Panama City. Hiking, biking , Historical significance, tranquil. Gift shops, restaurants, ocean activities and much more. Awesome day trip. CAUTION: the sun is very intense especially if visiting from Northern climes.

Fun place to visit with some great local fish n chip restaurants to enjoy with locals. Beach a little crowded and a fair amount of stupid people (locals?), that just throw our leave their garbage to float away in the surf. 😕

Nice and quiet island not too far from Panama city. Is nice to visit it on weekdays as is not crowded. The ferry will drop you at the pier and from there you can rent a shade/long chairs/table for about 5$ each. There are washrooms and dressers available for a small fee per visit or a flat rate for the whole day.

Aboard a beautiful ferry ride and spend a beautiful day on this beautiful island!! Taboga is a small laid back, quaint island, with unique charm. What an amazing escape from the city...we didn't want to leave! Would 100% recommend. Note: Bring change with you for use of public restrooms and change rooms.

i don’t even know where to begin. the water is very dirty, part of the beach is covered in glass, and the entire beach has garbage scattered everywhere. the water is murky and dirty from the big ships going through the Panama Canal. we were advised against going into the water due to stingrays lurking on the shore. an hour before we arrived, a woman got stung and had to be taken to the hospital. they charge to use the restroom. an upside (possibly the only one) was the food kiosk. i had excellent pescado frito from a kiosk near the beach. our group highly regrets not spending the extra $$ to get to san blas and if we had an extra day before departing tomorrow, we definitely would’ve went.

The Ferry that takes you to Taboga Island has tons of shopping centers on the pier😁, but once you take the ferry ride and arrive on Taboga island. I would recommend you have a guide if it's your first time like me and my wife, the tour was great; a slight warning PLEASE, wear sandals because the sand is 🔥🔥HOT🔥🔥and Jet Skis are $5 to ride on.

It is ok for a beach near the city. The best part is not the beach for me but the trail in the rainy season, observation post, and the view of the city at night. Stay 2 nights for best value. Bring food as the shacks by the entrance is the best value. They thought too long on the price and charge $2 or $3 more than local pricing. Everyone assumes you speak english if white. Racist policy. The bar and cafe by the church is the place to go. The famous hotel and cafe has great coffee and views, expensive food but not much more than the rest. Good for a romantic get away but no cheap lodging options.

We stayed in an private house, party of 7. Enjoyed every minute of the island. Amazing, great people, one of my favorite spots since childhood. Even got a massage on the beach by a nice Colombian lady. Enjoyed piña coladas, fresh fried fish. Better go and stay a couple of days to enjoy everything ☺️

I fell in love with this island close to the city, the first beach in the Pacific that conquers me, very colorful and several options to do, there are several options in terms of restaurants, food stands and cocktails. The cleanliness of the beach needs to be greatly improved, as the majority collect their waste but there is another percentage that throws everything onto the beach. Or the garbage moves from nearby areas.

One of my favorite beaches in Panama due to its proximity to Panama City (45 minute ferry ride). It's a pretty nice beach to be honest, although there are better beaches in Panama that others may suggest first. Check Taboga out still, it's a good day trip.

not much to see on this island, no restaurant open during the day, breakfast in only very limited places and definitely not good. On the water you see lot of big ships (supertankers). Really no need to go there.

Great place for a day trip or a few nights away from the city. I was there during the week, so food and drink options were limited, but what was open was good and cheap. It's a beautiful place to just stroll around. Check out Casa Rosie on Airbnb if you want to stay a few nights.

There is a rental fee for sitting on the chairs and using the umbrella on the beach there is also a fee for using the restrooms on the island as well. The vendors for the most part are very friendly and nice. Best to wear sandals or flip flops on this trip given you have to get on and off the Boat, the sand is extremely hot dreamily hot so be careful..

Amazing island, there's a wonderful strip of sand that connects to an island not far from the coast. You can hiking if you want following "el camino de la cruz", a path in the forest that arrive up in the hill, here you can see a beautiful view.

Great beach island about 25 minute ferry ride from Panama City. Worth a visit for sure. Drinks were fairly cheap also. Just watch those thieving little birds, they were stealing everyone’s food and drink when they went for a dip in the water.

(Translated by Google) I found the island and its beaches very beautiful. It has many beach bars to eat local food. They rent cars and scooters to tour the island. Umbrellas and chairs at good prices. They have several bathrooms (for a fee) to be able to shower and change. When you get off the ferry you have to go on the right path to reach the beaches that are just in front of the Bay of Panama. Very good place. In low season and weekdays you are luxury. (Original) Me pareció muy bonita la isla y sus playas. Tiene muchos chiringuitos donde comer comida local. Alquilan carros y scooters para recorrer la isla. Sombrillas y sillas a Buenos precios.
