I love the Golden Frog but whether or not you will depends on what you’re looking for. The main building has reception, the restaurant and a small but nice pool. Smaller buildings are scattered throughout a lush landscape with stone walks and steps. Some are multi-floored and some are more like duplexes with large front porches. If you’re older or have trouble with distances or stairs, tell them that when you make your reservation. I was able to park next to my room and had very few stairs to negotiate. I’m not certain I could have handled getting to or up one of the multi-story buildings. My room had beautiful furniture and tile. It was obviously old, though, with cracks and dents. The small kitchen and bath had very old appliances but everything was clean and serviceable. There is no air conditioning … the rationale being that the constant breezes keep everything cool. That was true on days 1-3, and the ceiling fan (and 1 floor fan in the hot part of the afternoon) was more than sufficient. On days 4-5 the breezes apparently shifted direction and, even with large open windows on 3 sides, the room was terribly hot. I’d have slept on the porch if possible. That second day, the electricity went out for a few hours (which tends to happen frequently in Latin American countries) and the loss of the fans made things more unbearable. I went to the market. Cons (which don’t really bother me): The electricity (not including the outage) is weak. If you need to charge anything, you’ll have trouble with that. The WiFi can be a little weak occasionally, as well. The location can be difficult to find. I suggest you use Google maps in advance (while you have WiFi) and watch for the small signs. The last “street” is only wide enough for 1 car so you may have to back up at times to let other cars through. Despite the breezes, my room got hot at times without air conditioning. The front porch was always cool, though, and other rooms might be better situated. Pros: The views are marvelous and the setting is very quiet and peaceful. The staff are the sweetest and friendliest I’ve seen in Panama, and many speak enough English for you to get by if you don’t speak Spanish. The food is limited but very good. (Try the homemade ice cream.) I thought the food was a little pricey for this area but that doesn’t mean it’s expensive. The breakfast (which came with the room rate) was excellent and they brought it to my room every morning so I could eat on my front porch. (If you have WhatsApp, you can text them every evening and tell them what you want for breakfast and when.) The bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows and the linens and towels were spotless. The front porch was a great place to eat, read, doze, etc. The location is about 10 minutes from “downtown” so it’s easy to get to the store, Sunday market, restaurants, etc. There’s plenty of hot water if you follow the directions in the bathroom. The pool is convenient, clean and never crowded. Even with air conditioning, I love the Golden Frog.

I had a wonderful stay at the Golden Frog Inn. The room was clean, the view was amazing, and the king sized bed was spacious and comfortable. The water pressure in the shower was excellent and the restaurant below was convenient and I enjoyed their breakfast.

I didn't stay here, but had lunch at the restaurant which features Mexican food. It was quite good, and spicy! Most food in Panama is painfully bland, even when it's supposed to be spicy, but this packed some real heat. Location was pleasant, service was good.

One of my favorite hotels I've ever stayed at. The view was absolutely stunning and the room was extremely comfortable! We stayed here for two nights and I wish we could of stayed longer. It's a great location for hiking and the staff was very helpful. We also ate dinner here and the food was excellent.

I'm giving this place 5 stars and I haven't booked a room yet. We randomly stopped by for dinner after hiking the waterfalls. Wow!! The properly is nestled in the middle of God's beautiful nature. It's totally picturesque ❤️. The bathrooms are clean and smell very good. The food was not only plated beautifully, it was GRRRREAT! Everything was delicious. I think I've found a hideaway ❤️ It was Antonio's 5th day of working here and he was amazing. To the owner: great job!!!

Beautiful grounds and views! The people were very nice. Room was clean. Not modern, but that’s to be expected. Would definitely stay here again

I cannot rave enough about the hospitable staff, fabulous Mexican food and delicious cocktail - the El Valle Spitzer. Google advised us to come to this Inn to access a beginner's hiking trail. We went in to the front desk to ask and they not only gave us walking sticks to borrow, they said we could come back and use their pool/bathroom afterwards. On our way up the trail, a beautiful white dog guided us up the mountain and back down. He waited for all of us to catch up to him both ways (I really wished I could bring this beautiful boy home with us!) We had a lovely swim, cocktails and a stunning Mexican meal that was delicious and authentic. We will definitely stay here on our next visit to Panama given the level of hospitality, the stunning garden and breathtaking mountain views.

We only went there for lunch. The place was spacious and we were not close to other customers for lunch during this Pendamic time. The food was excellent. I had Pork chops. My husband had a steak. Both were excellent. Definitely will come back again. The place look very cosy, with a swimming pool for their guests. Although the water didn't look too clear to me but still looked very inviting. The garden was beautiful. We didn't look at their rooms. They had veranda outside each room with chairs and table. Very nice set up.

Lovely inn nestled in a safe and quiet area of El Valle de Anton, only 5 minutes from the village. We had a standard room, it was small and didn't have AC but it was clean and it had a big balcony with 2 comfy chairs and a hammock. We were offered a bigger room with AC but we preferred to choose the one without AC but with balcony. Only downside of not having AC is not the heat (20 C at night in August so no Ac needed) but it was always damp and smelled funny. We did 3 nights so it was ok, we were never in the room the day only at night time. The restaurant has a few veggie options so we had dinner 1 night here, welcome drinks were a nice treat. We recommend visiting La Casa de Lourdes for dinner which was amazing and we also went to la ranita, Good food and cheap. Lots of hikes to do around the area, from short to long, free or paid you can check goggle maps for those. We recommend having a car around here but can get by with taxi if needed. Cocco latte was also nice for lunch coffee and snacks. Price was $80 a night with breakfast included so that was a great deal (they didn't charge 10% for paying with card). Pool was chilly but looked lovely. Highly recommend this place!

We just pick the restaurant on Google and went for dinner. Next time I'll book a room there to stay closer to the restaurant. The food is just perfect!

This is a very unique property with a mix of hotel rooms and small villas. Our accommodations included a main room with bed and sitting area with couch and chairs. Then it had a separate room with another full bed. It allowed us to fit 2 adults and 3 kids easily. The grounds are very well maintained with lots of beautiful plants and flowers and the pool is nice. Breakfast was included in the rate of $160 but happy hour drinks cost extra. We did the short hike up the mountain behind the inn and the views of the valley were excellent. It is an easy drive into town for restaurants, shops, etc.

Super sweet hotel in Valle del Antón. The rooms are very nice, everything super clean, friendly and helpful staff. Arriving, we had a problem with the breaks of our car and we were looking for a shop to get them checked. An employee drove with us to the shop and helped us to get it checked. Beautiful view, located a few minutes from the center, really quiet. Nice pool and good cocktails.

This place is absolutely magical. I would give it more than 5 stars. The grounds are incredibly lush, the staff is extremely friendly, the food is delicious but the view…the view is magical. We got the king room with a balcony. My favorite hotel so far on this trip!

Absolutely beautiful place worth of price! You did a very big difference from other places in Panama by putting a coffee maker in a room so we could prepare ourself early morning a great cup of coffee before our (included) excellent breakfast! The guy in breakfast who was serving super kind and friendly! Room #7 is excellent for us. There is a pool but now in mantanience. We didn't have the plan to come here as we were going to the beach but cause if some issues we decided to go to Cerro Anton and in last moment I found great offer of Golden Frog and although we arrived at 8pm we absolutely enjoyed. Will be back! 👌🙂🌼💚

Lovely place. Nice room and helpful staff. The food is simple but very very tasty, we simply ate in the restaurant instead of wasting time in the town.

A beautiful retreat on the edge of town. Sit on a second story balcony for an amazing view of the valley. The pool and gardens are beautiful and peaceful to relax in. The service has been amazing and the restaurant is a great place to eat at. Due to the limited number of rooms it does not feel crowded. Bathrooms, beds, and rooms are clean and modern. Many things in the valley close at 5, so it was great to come back to live music Saturday evening for some chill nightlife.

Beautiful pool. I swam every day. So relaxing. Delightful view from the dining area. Wonderful spot to sit in the late afternoon for card or board games and a glass of wine.

To be honest, we were hoping for more based on the good reviews. Especially the breakfast did not live up to the reviews and the published pictures. It was either a juice or a coffee included, everything else is charged extra. Furthermore, there was nothing of the rich buffet in the pictures. Breakfast was al a carte and there were 5 options to choose from which is substandard compared to other hotels. In addition, the water in the pool is extremely murky and it can be assumed that it has already tipped over. Unfortunately the Wifi is not working in our room. On a positive note, the rooms are very clean and nice. The view from the balcony towards the mountains is also breathtaking. Also, the staff is always helpful and nice. Taken together, however, these advantages definitely do not justify the high price of 135€, which is proclaimed per night. If the price were lower, you could give it 4 stars, but it's only 2.

Wonderful little slice of heaven. Everything was perfect with our stay here. We especially enjoyed relaxing with drinks by the pool while watching clouds seemingly emerge from the nearby peaks. The staff were very very friendly, the room was clean, and the entire experience was an absolute treat.

We loved the Golden Frog and would definitely visit again. Traveled with 3 couples and we all had a terrific experience. It was a 2nd visit for one of our friends and we all came based on their recommendation and we’re not disappointed. The rooms were wonderful with a view out to beautiful landscaping. We enjoyed a welcome cocktail and a nice dinner in the outdoor dining area. Leisurely dip in the pol the next morning after a hike. We enjoyed everything about our stay here, except it was too short nBrenda checked us in and took wonderful care of us during our stay. Highly recommend in your in the El Valle area

The Golden Frog is always an amazing experience. We've visited with friends, then family, then friends and family and each visit has been great. It's laid back, has great sunsets, seriously excellent food, and a service staff that is a true joy to be around.

This is honestly the best place to stay in this city!! The owner runs a fantastic operation! This hotel is the place you want to stay here! Incredible service, great rooms. The hospitality that you will experience here will ensure your trip here is absolutely fantastic!!!

Great place, quiet atmosphere and staff are lovely. We felt the food is pricey ($7 for a taco!) and also the hotel advertises a shared kitchen when there is not. Please note there are also no free bikes.

I am writing this while waiting on dessert during my last night of stay here. The Golden Frog, named after an extinct amphibian I am told, is a rare gem. Fantastic staff, clean, affordable, and comfortable rooms, and excellent food and drinks. I rarely eat at the same restaurant twice when I am travelling because I want to try as much as possible, but both my son and I had to eat there again and again as we wanted to taste as much of the menu as possible. Everything we had was wonderful. There is lots to do in the area, we had a fantastic time. I can see us coming back here, it is that good. Thank you for a superlative stay, staff of the Golden Frog!

My family had initially planned to stay here based in the pictures and stellar reviews but after reading some reviews about the questionable nature of the pool at the time I decided to pass. I emailed them and was told it was being worked on and to swim at my own risk. Ended up coming over for a drink with the family and the service was impeccable. Sadly, the pool was in dire shape still weeks after and it did not seem a priority for the owner. As someone who personally owns a pool, I know what happens if you swim in green water and I also know it can be remedied quite easily with powder chlorine shock and a longer than standard cleaning cycle - they need to get to it!

I went for lunch, and to use the pool. It's a really attractive place, very welcoming people, tasty lunch. The pool is way below the level of the filtration/skimmer height, so the water will not be going thru the pump, and as such, I didn't get in the water. There is a chlorine ' bobber' in the water, but it's a bit odd.

Our time in El Valle was amazing partly because of our experience at golden frog. Spent most of our nights eating dinner at the in house restaurant. Amazing tacos and enchilada. The staffs were amazing and helpful. Special shout out to Mr.Kim for helping us to arrange transfer to santa catalina. Also, bonus points to the doggos and cats 😍

I love this place so much, I have gone twice. My first visit in 2021 introduced me to Valle de Anton and all its Beauty. But my first trip was too short and I realized it would be lovely to return and finish the hikes and sites I didn’t make in this region the year prior. After researching all options, I would continue to always stay here in El Valle. The price is great for the amazing location. I stayed in a remodeled room, the same one both times, in the main building. This room, number 6, has a queen bed and a fold out couch for a second bed. It is large with a huge bathroom and lots of storage space. A new building has been added to the property in the year since I visited. This building features consistent amenities and looks beautiful. I could go on for hours about the natural beauty of the property, which was owned by a former Vice President of Panama. But the photos speak for themselves. They have an active Instagram page, which I enjoy seeing when back home too. The food at the restaurant is So delicious that we ate all our meals here on my 2021 trip. And we only ate out once nearby on my second visit. Breakfast is included and if you stay here, do not miss it. They will even kindly pack you a breakfast bag to go if you request it the night before if you have early morning adventures like we did one day. The staff here is top notch and so attentive. I was happy to see Genesis was still working at the property upon my return in 2022. She seems to hold the place together on a daily basis and can speak excellent English. (But speaking Spanish in this region is Recommeded as it is not trampled by expats yet. Thank goodness!) Do research on the area, roads, transportation options before making plans to visit. El Valle and the Golden Frog are not for the average “Gringo” tourist who enjoys a resort vacation. This is a hidden and near extinct treasure, just like the Golden Frog it’s named after.
