What an amazing place to stay ! Rooms are cute, confortable and spotless clean, the food is homemade and super tasty and activities offered by Vijeesh are excellent. Don't miss the sunset boat ride away from the crowd, the kayak sunrise adventure and the Munroe special mocktail - must try! Vijeesh and his family get out of their way to provide the most wholesome experience possible. We strongly recommand this homestay, we will come back 😊

One of the highlights of our travels through India. Thank you Vijeesh for such a lovely stay, and the humour. Fantastic paddle through the backwaters as the sun set, and met some lovely people too. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Munroe Island backwaters homestay was of the highlights of our trip to kerala. Vijeesh was fun, friendly and made us feel right at home. He was able to organise a range of authentic experiences including backwaters canoe trip, kayaking at sunrise and stand up paddle boarding (although this sounds touristy it was anything but). We shared some really nice moments with Vijeeshs family and the fresh food that was prepared was honestly incredible (shout out to the puttu and pomegranate). We wish we could have stayed longer and would revisit in a heartbeat. Thank you vijeesh, our time spent with you was amazing!!

Thanks Vijeesh for hospitality. This place is definitely the go to place to experience Munroe island. We had an ad-hoc trip and requested Vijeesh mom for lunch based on the reviews here. Wow ! Easily one of the best traditional meals I have had for quite sometime and something I will remember!!Lunch here must try !!

We had an incredible experience here!! The homestay is super lovely, surrounded by nature, the village and enchanting backwaters. Very chill and friendly atmosphere, but mostly the host is amazing - it really feels like being part of the family! Make sure to take part in the canoe and kayak tours which are magical and we will never forget! Vijeesh is knowledgeable about all birds, animals, nature and knows the island like the back of his hand. Thank you so much Vijeesh we will surely come back ! 💖💫 Logistics-wise, it is easy to reach from the Munroturuttu train station and a short short rickshaw ride.

Spent a great 3 nights here that exceeded our expectations. We were hoping to experience the tranquility and uniqueness of the backwaters without the heavy tourism, and munroe island was definitely the right pick. Backwaters homestay is just a minute walk from the water front. Rooms were the cleanest we had experienced backpacking in India, home cooked Keralan-style meals proved generous and delicious, complementary chai teas added to the hospitality. Bikes were not available at the time but generally are an option. We enjoyed the slow pace and lush vegetation just wandering around the island by foot and kayak/SUP. Prices were higher than what we are used to paying but also higher quality and very fair considering the value for money. Highly recommended for a relaxed and comfortable stay.

A nice place to stay and meet Vijeesh and his family. All of them are so nice . It was just the perfect local experience. We went out for a kayak tour early morning, before sunrise and it was one of our best moment. He took us for a walk around the village, really precious to have someone local to show you the remote places and tell you all kind of stories about life there. Ask for the fruit juice shop experience it’s a bonus…

Best homestay experience in Kerala so far!! Vijeesh is a wonderful host and knows exactly what travellers are looking for! He will make you connect with the locals, discover the backwaters on boat, kayaks or paddle-board, bring you to local temples for ceremonies, visit local handicrafts factories...and eat some of the most delicious food Kerala has to offer. And he is also very funny and friendly and will make all the guests easily connect with each other’s. Quite a family experience indeed! Rooms are comfortable and the family/staff is caring and attentive. We’ll be back for sure!

We were supposed to spend 2 days in Munroe island during our trip in Kerala but we fell in love we this place and could leave. We stayed 6 dys kayaking and enjoying the beautiful nature. Vijeesh is a great host, super fun with a sharp sens of humor 🤣. He knows lot about the fauna and flora and is happy to share his passion. The rooms are spacious and very clean and comfortable. The food is freshly made by the family and very tasty. The kayak and canoe tours are dreamy. ... I still think about this place after leaving India.

Munroe island is beautiful and this was one of my favourite places to stay in India! Vijesh and his family are very welcoming and helpful, the authentic Keralan food was delicious, and the rooms / communal areas were very nice. Don’t miss the sunrise canoe tour which was a real highlight of my whole trip and well worth the early start!

Loved the overall experience here! Vijesh and his family are extremely welcoming. The lunch on the day of our arrival was the best meal we had in all of Kerala. The sunset and sunrise tours were splendid. Highly recommended if you are travelling to Mundrothuruthu.

This was one of the most special places we stayed in India. The ambiance, location, and amenities were all excellent, but it's the homey feel that really sells the place. Vijeesh and his family are such excellent hosts! The stay is so much more than lodging, as we also got to participate in multiple boat tours, both by kayak and by canoe; nature walks, where he pointed out native flora and fauna, as well as showing us local businesses and traditional material crafting; as well as guided swim times and fun hangouts around meals. Vijeesh is excellent at curating a fun, friendly environment, helping guests make friends with other travelers staying there from around the world. Cannot recommend this stay more highly!

I ended up staying here for 10 nights in stead of 3 nights. I really enjoyed the nature and calm atmosphere. It was the perfect spot to simply be and enjoy. I practiced yoga early mornings on the roof terras, went often for swimming in the (warm) backwaters, went for kayaking, stand up paddeling, and an early morning canoetrip. And I have been reading a lot in the hammock. Vijeesh and his family were so welcoming and kind. The food was every day amazing. One night we watched the cooking and the ladies explained everything about how to cook the various dishes. There is also a good ayurvedic treatment place closeby if you want to enjoy a massage. I can recommend this place very much. I hope to come back in the future! Thank you Vijeesh and family!

We spent 2 nights in this friendly place, here you can find a family atmosphere and some activities to do like the sunrise boat trip (highly recommended), canoeing, paddle board, cycle short trip. There is no many things to do around because it's a rural village, so you can definitely appreciate the company of the funny owner and other travellers the ones who can share the family fresh meals and pleasant conversations.

MunroeIsland Backwaters Homestay is more than an accommodation - it‘s an experience. It’s was one of the highlights of our India Trip. The host Vijeesh and is family are remarkable characters with an amazing sense of humor. Besides clean rooms and a wonderful common area they provide authentic meals prepared with lots of love. Vijeesh is organizing many trips from exploring the backwaters to taking you on temple festivals. The trips offered to all guests create a pleasant community among the travelers from young to old. The prices are more than fair! I could not recommend anything more than staying in this homestay. AMAZING!

This homestay deserves all the positive reviews it has gotten on all platforms. The place is lovely, the rooms are nice and clean, it is a good place to either relax or see the backwaters from. The homestay offers boat tours at sunrise and sunset which are great and you can also rent a kayak and go explore on the river on your own. The host, Vijeesh, goes out of his way to be there for the guests. He's always close if you have a question, he gave us advice how to reach and leave the homestay with public transport, he even took all the guests with him during the evening on a bus ride to a temple where a festivity was going on, where we spent some time before heading back to the delicious food his mother makes. If you're in Kerala, make sure to fit Munroe Island and this homestay in your itinerary, you will be happy you did.

We loved our time with Vijeesh and his family. We went out on both the sunset and sunrise boat trips and Vijeesh pointed out all the wonderful birds around the island. We also went for a lovely stroll through the village and kayaked in the evening. The food provided was incredible! The rooms are pleasant, great communal area to meet and chat with other guests, good wifi. We loved Munroe Island and this fabulous homestay. We hope to return one day!!

If you are someone who is searching for a place to be calm and peaceful, stop searching and start packing your bags. This is the destination. No words to explain the hospitality of Rajeesh brother and his parents. Food is another level. The ambiance is scintillating and the boat ride to see the sunrise in Ashtamudi lake is mind-blowing. If you have any plans to visit Munroe Island please stay here and there is a reason why I am suggesting you to pick this place and let the reason be a surprise.

The MIBH is an absolute must if you are in the area! Vijeesh is a wonderful host - funny, communicative, and educational. We went on canoe trips at sunrise and sunset, swam in the river, motorbiked around the island... His family makes incredible food, which we were privileged to eat every day. We eat meals communally on the roof, and it was fun to meet the other guests, have conversations, play games, etc. I hope this place is around to host visitors for many years to come!

Highly recommend this. 👉First time I went there was few years back with my family and then on 2019 December again I went with few japanese colleagues and they really enjoyed the small boat ride arranged by them. 👉English speaking. We came to Varkala and came to know Munroe Island backwaters is one of the must-visit places. Came to this homestay, Mr. Vijeesh runs this place. Had nice lunch and Vijeesh took us on a boat on the Munroe Island backwaters. Saw mangroves here, enjoyed the sunset... It was a peaceful 2 hour experience.

Definitely the best way to enjoy the backwaters! We were afraid of the too touristic water boats in Alleppey, so we decided to go to Munroe Island instead. We stayed with Virjeesh, such a nice genuine person with a great sense of humor, that truly makes sure you take the most out of the days you are spending with him. For the 3 days we spent there, we ate together (delicious food!!! prepared by his sister Adira), we walked around Munroe Island, and we enjoyed some sunrises and sunsets in the channels in a cannoe or kayak. We watched them cook and learn how to make those delicious meals (we tried to help but it was not easy), we learned about Kabaddi and watched a game together, we talked a lot. We were also lucky with the guests but they really made is feel at home! Definitely recommend!!

Absolutely loved the experience of the homestay. The service and hospitality provided by Mr.Vijeesh was exemplary. He catered to our needs like a friend and was more than happy to converse with us. The home cooked meals were delicious and filling and the midnight boat ride was more than we could ask for.

Truly an unforgettable and fantastic 3 hr canoe ride experience with Bimalan who runs this place with his son Bijeesh. Family owned business providing an amazing canoeing experience around the island passing through canals, mangroves, bridges and the lake. Bimalan speaks most regional Indian languages and few European languages and English, and is an amazing tour guide. Notes: 1. They offer sunrise and sunset tours, and tours mid day that lasts for 3 hrs weather permitting, Please call them prior to make sure. 2. We paid INR 1400 for 2.5 hrs boat trip for 3 ppl, my opinion is it was completely worth the money and felt value was much greater. 3. They have an amazing home stay serving home made local food, for people who would like to stay for couple days to explore the pristine beauty of this island. 4. Shallow waters for most of ride, but they do provide really good life jackets should anyone requires it. 5. Kayaking is another option for tourists, and they have really good kayaks you could rent for kayak tours! Thoughts, definitely a place to be added to your travel bucketlst!

Room quality 5/5, value for time 5/5, value for money 5/5, hospitality and food 5/5, local trip management by homestay 5/5. The home stay has ac and non ac rooms though ac is not required as all rooms have fans. Mr Vigesh along with his sister manages the Homestay. They are open hearted, pleasant people who went out of their way to accommodate every need of the guests both at the homestay and boat tours on the canal and river making the experience worthwhile. The homestay settings match with the nature around . English speaking hosts. Go for the local home cooked food at the homestay and be pleasantly surprised. Ask for a midnight boat trip and early morning trip for a memorable experience on the river. Mr Vijesh takes you himself.

Best experience ever. Forget the resorts or 5 star hotels. Vijeesh and family showered us with so much hospitality that it was like leaving our family when we left the place after 2 days. We enjoyed kayaking, canoeing, general sight seeing plus all the excellent home made Kerala delicacies. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a safe and personalized holiday
