Paphos is one of rare places where I found the ‘new’ part of town more charming than the old one. Sure, there are cheesy touristy shops and bars but it still has a really nice boardwalk and many quirky stores in the side streets (visiting late October is probably a factor as well and the impression might be very different during high-season).

A lot of money has been invested in bringing this stretch of Promenade up to date. Now very smart and trendy. The shopping part of it is now pedestrian with the restaurants and bars at the Harbour and Fort end. There is loads of parking in the big car park, several taxi ranks and lots of buses. A nice way to walk off your dinner in the evening with all the boats in the Harbour lit up. Many different boat trips are on sale from the kiosks along the route. This is also where you come to see one of the most impressive and extensive archaeological sites in the World.

We used the promenade, or, the municipal broadwalk as it is described on the map, to walk from Alexander the Great hotel to the harbour area. Specifically the castle at the tip of the peninsular. We explored the castle two years ago, so on this occasion did not feel up to it....it was very hot. Instead we enjoyed a cool drink in one of the cafes before heading back to the hotel. We walked...but we should have got the bus at the harbour station or a taxi.
