I used to love this hospital till last week. I took my daughter to the hospital; she had a fever, congestion, and a nasty cough. The nurses were lovely and very diligent in registering my daughter. Once we got in, the doctor was utterly careless, she went inside the room, asked me if she had a history of asthma, and I said yes. She stepped out and returned after 35 minutes; all this, my daughter had a 103 fever... She Came back in the room and TOLD ME that it could be viral..... And since my daughter has asthma, that could be the cause of my daughter being sick! Okay, it made sense to me. The issue was that they waited for an hour to give my daughter Motrin; no albuterol was given to my daughter, no x-ray was done, and all they did was Motrin and nasal swapped; on top of that, they took me out of the room place me in the hallway because they needed the space for someone else; I was okay with that, no problem. The night continues, doctor nowhere to be found... She passed a few times in front of my daughter, did not check again, nothing. I asked the nurse if they had any updates regarding the nasal swapping; as per the nurse, everything came out negative!! Okay... I'll keep waiting patiently..... My daughter's heart rate is 140....146....160....and she's only five!!!!! This was like that for 3 hours, AND NO ONE CALL A cardiologist; no one did anything to check why her HR was not going down. We got discharged, and according to the nurse, my daughter looked fine!! But my daughter keeps up Coughing none stop. We left... When we got home, she got worse... I took her to her doctor... My daughter was whizzing; her lungs were tight...after X-rays were done, my daughter had pneumonia!! After seven hours in the hospital, nothing was done 😔 We need to do better here!

I came to emergency center for my son because he injured himself while running and have a lack in between the middle of his nose, which it shows the meat, and bleeding. I asked numerous people for help, I understand other patience’s are here how ever my son was bleeding. He’s only 2 years old, they kept having us wait. Very upset regarding this situation. I was told he has a “ controlled bleed” , how ever that doesn’t mean it should take long for a 2 year old to get scene with meat showing and blood all over his clothes! Extremely disappointed! It wasn’t even that busy and yet they still took extremely long. I won’t be coming here again.

I took my daughter to the ER a few days ago and I had a horrible experience. My daughter was vomiting an abnormal amount of mucus and couldn't hold any food down. The doctor refused to give her a chest x ray, refused to do blook work and wouldn't swab her to see what virus she had. I was told there is 1000 different viruses out there right now you will never know which one she has. Also, to stop any cough medicine and just have her rest and it will pass. When we got home from the hospital, she was vomiting a crazy amount of mucus again. We decided to take her to her pediatrician (which we should of went to first, but we panicked) Once the pediatrician looked in her mouth, she saw that her tonsils were covered in pus and was diagnosed with tonsilitis. We asked the ER doctor if her tonsils were okay and ALL she said was yea they're a little swollen but nothing to be concerned about. How she completely did not see her tonsils covered in pus and completely misdiagnosed her is very concerning. I will never bring my child back to Hackensack Children's Hospital ever again.

I was told to go to the er if I had any issues with my son so I did. I was there over 4 hrs and no one was assigned to my son thats what I was told when I ask to leave. I was in the room waiting for a bit over 2hrs when someone came to register my son didn't even give there name. I would never take my son or any family member there again. I understand everywhere is short staff but a little bed side manners would go a long way. I've heard so much about the Dr's that they very good too bad i didn't get that.

Ok, so I’ve been admitted here well at least 6 times already and I’m no longer a patient here but I just want to say something that Kimberley the black lady I don’t know if she’s there anymore you know her the lady that’s in the emergency room for kids. She said something nasty over me cause she had seen me in a nasty or angry way before like getting all upset so she said that oh is that Blossom? Cause she loves it here. I’m like dude back off or I’ll punch you. So yeah rest of them are good but this hostipal is bipolar

What a horrible experience , I’m a mother of 7 with that being said I got a lot experience going in to a er, in more than 16 year and let me tell you it’s horrible , they make wait for hours , the staff is unhelpful, I wait almost 3 hours just for my daughter to be cut on her nose with a covid test , she was bleeding and they just give a tissue no one came to help her with the bleeding the staff just be chatting laughing at everything ,ohhh and after all that they just send me outside to the waiting room again with rest patients to wait for my for my discharge paper ,it’s incredible the lack of privacy and humanity Im so upset they going to charge money to the insurance for do just nothing 0 star hospital

First time visiting this place on a Saturday and it topped one of the worst experiences I ever had at a hospital. I brought my 1 year old to the ER with High fever and non stop crying being unable to eat or drink anything. Got there at 8pm and didn’t get to see a Doctor until 3 hours later to check our baby, which she only spent less than 5 minutes, to just say that he had had a throat infection (He wasn’t even coughing but w.e.). They gave our son some medicine and 2 hours later we are still at the hospital (yes writing this as I wait for my wife to get out of the hospital). 5 hours and counting, unacceptable. I thought going to the DMV was a horrible experience but this one topped it. I won’t ever be stepping a foot in this place, ever.

If I could give it a zero stars I would. My eight month old son was there for a bacterial infection, as well as two viral respiratory illnesses. He also received a blood transfusion and two tubes in his side to drain fluid. Two weeks of sleepless nights and not eating and surviving only off of caffeine for the time being, had child protective services called on me, because my “demeanor was off” and I appeared to be a little “shaky”. No one even asked if I was OK or anything. After surviving the traumatic experience with my son, I finally was able to bring him home from the hospital only to have child protective services, run up on us not even having a foot in the door carrying my son in the bitter 8 degree cold weather. CPS looked at us like why the hell did they even call on you??? Exactly. Thanks for adding to the trauma. If you come here, make sure your “demeanor” isn’t off or else you’ll have them called on you. PICU was amazing however it was the nasty god forbid u ask them a question high maintenance doctors on the pediatric floor. Blonde nurse manager and blonde doctor. You could really mess up peoples lives. Next time you want to place an allegation, ask me! There is such thing as sleep deprivation, and loss of appetite when your son is in CRITICAL condition. Not to mention the constant attitude we received up there. I could go on. It’s very very sad 😢

My two year old fell and cut his forehead open on a dining room chair. We went to the children's ER by ambulance. The care my son received by the team in the ER was incredible. Yes, we were there for three hours, but it's an ER. It's expected. He got five stitches and didn't understand what was going on. (I mentioned he's two.). He didn't like the blood pressure cuff, he didn't like the blood oxygen pulse thing, he didn't like the bandage... I guess you can say he didn't like any of it. The doctor and nurses were so patient. They had a hospital professional who explained things to him and coached him through the stitches. Overall, I'm so happy I chose the children's ER at Hackensack and not another local hospital.

This was my first time bringing my daughter to this facility by my best friends (3 kids deep mom lol) referral. She wasn't wrong when she said you'll go and feel that that's the place you'll always want to go to for your child. From the ground floor desk who reassured me I was in the right place (lol) to the gentleman who helped me find my way through the first floor to the waiting room only proved to be a great first impression. The front office, the 3 lovely caring and smiling ladies treated my 2yr old girlie and me with such kindness which made such an unfortunate time actually pleasant and effortless. My little one got a gash on her chin and I was having no luck locally to get her treated. We got seen with barely a wait and Ashley was so understanding, informative and compassionate, especially helping me get through it. I can't ever express how much that meant to me. I was blessed to have such an experienced and supportive staff working on my daughter. Caesar came in to assist in the glue procedure and he was so thoughtful and considerate. I was so touched to see how we all came together to make this a comfortable experience for my courageous little girl. She was such a good patient at their hands. Afterwards, Giselle was helpful and cheerful to exchange in conversation along with the outgoing care package and parking validation she provided us. I'm so grateful for this Children's hospital and all who are their to provide care....in every way from every member of staff. Thank you!

I never want to have to come back here, but I know my children would be in good hands if we did! I rushed my 1 month old into the ED for a high grade fever, we were triaged right away, and placed in a room immediately, probably given his age and symptoms. My nurse Theresa came in quickly after that and immediately recommended a full work up and got started on it. Everything was being explained to me in detail and if I had any questions they were quickly answered. My son ended up needing a spinal tap and I requested the resident not do the procedure and I wasn’t met with any pushback on it. We ultimately got admitted to the hospital and went to the peds floor first, and were soon transferred to the picu where we stood until discharge. My nurses Bethany, Stacey, and Tonya were all so good to my son, and dealing with the millions of questions and anxiety I had during our stay. Walking past the other rooms during my trips to the bathroom, I realized we were probably the least critical patient there, but that didn’t change their care for us. So grateful this hospital is here and that there are nurses that genuinely care and will advocate for their patients. Our doctors were great too, and explained everything to me, I never felt like my concerns weren’t warranted. Thanks to everyone during our stay!

First time there and our experience with our 19-month old daughter was amazing. Everyone from the doctors to nurses to reception team was so kind and competent. We were also seen and treated very quickly when our daughter was having issues breathing. Thank you so much to everyone there!

So I brought my eight months to this hospital with a really bad rash, and or cyst in his mouth and they didn’t even do blood didn’t even draw blood out of my baby. They just gave him medication without even knowing what is going on. This is the worst hospital do not bring your kid here

Last time we use this hospital. Really bad experience. They made us wait in the hallway for hours. They don’t even have rooms now. Nurses don’t care and doctors nowhere to be found. Nurses walking by you don’t even look at you. Hours waiting and when they’ll see you for a couple of minutes and send you home. It used to be a good hospital but not anymore.

Every time I have been there have had to leave without being seen because they last hours for a doctor to see you and they don’t even care if you leave they encourage you too because they don’t know where the doctor is.

this hospital is the worst, I came with my 5-year-old daughter with vomiting and diarrhea for almost 1 week, my daughter was already very pale and was only sleeping, when the doctor saw her he said that she did not look dehydrated that he was going to give something for nausea. They didn't want to do blood tests. I had to beg them to do it. When the results came back, they saw that my daughter was so dehydrated that they had to leave her hospitalized. I don't understand how they are able to send children home without being sure what they have. DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN HERE!!! oh

Hackensack used to be humane and we used to have respect for. NOT ANYMORE. Due to all of the great doctors having been fired + replaced by “buddies” of that corporate team… now look what has happened.

I think this is the best emergency room I’ve ever been to. The other day I had a medical inconvenience and had to see a doctor immediately. We went over and the parking staff were so nice. The staff in the waiting room are also amazingly nice. We waited for abt 2 hours (it’s an emergency room I get it) and we were brought in by an amazing nurse. The doctor came in shortly after and I was told that bloodwork would be done. A nurse came in to do the blood work (she was the same nurse I had 2 months prior as I sprained an ankle) and they did it so calmly and nicely. If I had to go back for an emergency I definitely would go there no doubt

ER SITUATION upon arriving they check my sister vital signs. HR is not normal they take her inside ER with me. 7hrs inside the ER for OBSERVATION but they only check her 3x 🙃 no doctor only residence that limited knowledge lol. in that 7hrs my sister been pooping with blood for more than 10x i ask the nurse what is the next step of care? Cause we’ve been waiting 7hrs and I showed her my sister poop with blood and that is THE ONLY TIME SHE CALL DOCTOR AND ASKING FOR A ROOM FOR MY SISTER little did I know she’s going to be admit. What was that? Delayed care? I can’t blame nurses for being busy specially in the ER but I hope higher management they will focus this kind of situation. Nursing stuffing PEDIATRIC WARD My sister was admitted to this hospital for 10 days. She was actively bleeding when pooping (20x) more than usual. In that 10 days I encounter all of his nurses who handled her i could say there is SOME nurses literally hands on to her they really understand my sister situation they keep on checking her from time to time cause my sister is not stable for 5 days. I do really appreciate them cause it takes a few NURSES who work with compassion. And there is this nurse also not one but 3-4 of them when they are on duty they only check her 5-6x? Not observing poop with blood? in their 12hrs shift 🙃 gosh my sister situation still not stable actively bleeding and have a pain on his stomach. ALSO, I hope they not only giving medicine they should aware the interaction of drugs. and they not even ask if my sister eat already or what. They just give the medicine 😏😏😏 taking meds together / empty stomach is not okay in the kidney/liver. AndI encounter this new nurse or student nurse as I observed she don’t keep aseptic technique when giving IV sol. 🙃 Day before colonoscopy they stop the IV and my sister doctor came to visit she’s questioning why they stop the IV 😳 A lot that happened in 10 days. 😐

Joseph Sanzari Children’s Hospital saved our sons life. Before he even arrived they were preparing, calling in Neuro team, preparing the ER, they were read for him! Within minutes they had him in surgery to repair his TBI. This hospital, these Doctors and nurses saved our son. Their quick response and expertise made it possible for my son to be back doing everything he loved months after leaving the hospital. We are forever grateful ❤️ The PICU will also always a spot in my heart. That team is remarkable!!!
