Personally I could not ingest the food served by the restaurants on the Varkala cliff strip. Enter the saviour "Thiramala Home Foods". This is a small family run place and the speciality is home cooked meals with veg and non veg(fish) set meals. They serve on a banana leaf with rice, 2 veggie preparations and 2 fish preparations (mackarel, tuna, or sardines)with papadam. We love different fishes and upon request uncle gets fish of your choice. We had squids, snapper, prawns, prompret (on different days and paying extra which is very reasonable). On one occasion we had three portions of prawns, 2 meals, fresh pineapple (whole) for around 1000 bucks only (pic attached). Aunty is very warm and welcoming. I loved her cooking style and preparations. She even made payasam upon request. So if you are looking for hot and fresh meals and the freshest catch of the day head over here. Sure, it's friendly on the pocket but the USP for me was the quality of the food(I was visiting for 40 days). The best thing I like to hear when I am travelling and late for food is "it's over". Which invariably means we serve only fresh food and it's made in limited quantity. Lunch generally starts at 12.15 here and food gets over by 2.30 pm. Dinner is 7.00 to 9.00 pm (though reach by 8.00 pm) Oh yeah, upon request she will also serve hot egg omlettes. Conclusion: A place for home made meals for travellers wanting to experience local cuisine culture and fresh fish. UPI and cash are the modes of payment.

I have been to this place couple of times , for breakfast and lunch!! I was amazed that such small place have so many varieties of food with various options However I feel the fish thali at the local place in Varkala was a culinary delight . The freshness of the seafood was evident in every bite, and the variety of dishes in the thali provided a wonderful sampling of local flavors. From the perfectly spiced fish curry to the coconut-infused side dishes, each element was well-executed. The laid-back atmosphere of the place added to the overall charm of the dining experience. Highly recommended for seafood enthusiasts

If you are looking for authentic kerala meal then this is just the place for you. The food was amazing and made with so much love and care. Prices are also resonable. Don’t go by the looks of the place , it’s a small establishment run by a local family but the food is top notch. Would definitely recommend it.

Small but easy to find eatery near the helipad in Varkala. Homely, delicious food served in an outdoor setting. Very reasonable and highly recommended. My fav: Fish Fry.

Home made food, nicely prepared local dishes prepared by the owners family. One non-veg mostly fish for lunch, different dish for dinner, veg options are side dishes and curry. Many locals were getting a takeaway meals during the lunchtime

THE place in Varkala for an excellent value, home-style, authentic, Keralan lunch. I have come here several times and there is always a mix of foreign and domestic tourists and locals. I have been assured by several locals that this is exactly like the food they eat at home. Don't expect a menu: there is one delicious veg meal which you can upgrade with fish if you like. You don't need a menu anyway, it's always delicious and changing a little each time. I pay only 100 rupees for my veg meal (one advantage of being a vegetarian!) It's a simple family run place. It's not fancy, but the family will look after you and you will eat like a local.

The food is much good and tasty too, their ambience is nice and you don't have to worry about the quantity of food they serve until your stomach full. The cost is so reasonable, especially non veg items chicken and fish are really very tasty.

We recently visited this Kerala Mess in Varkala with high hopes of experiencing authentic and delicious Kerala food. Unfortunately, our overall dining experience was marred by cold food, buzzing flies and a particularly disappointing dish— the tuna fish fry. This home-mess is run by a family outside their home, so it would be inappropriate to discuss ambiance. On the day we visited, it was raining, and we found it challenging to navigate the narrow street filled with puddles of water. There were lot of flies and mosquitoes that kept us busy during the meal. But they were kind enough to let us return to the main road through their backyard. However, when our order of tuna fish fry arrived, it was clear that something was amiss. The fish was grey, overcooked and super-oily, lacking the tender and juicy texture that is expected from a good fish fry. It was evident that the preparation and execution of this particular dish fell short of our expectations. Despite this disappointing experience with the tuna fish fry, the rest of the meal was satisfactory. We asked for meals with white rice and the Meals were served cold with white rice that was thick, resembling Kerala matta rice.. Again, not something everyone can eat. Sweet/Kerala Poppadum was also not given with the meals. On a positive note, the portions were okay, and the ingredients seemed fresh and of good quality. I would rate my experience at Thiramala Home Food as average.

you’re doing a disservice to yourself if you don’t get lunch here. we had the most delicious and satisfying home cooked meal; if we were in the area longer, we’d probably get lunch and dinner here every day. this was a highlight of my time at varkala beach where most of the food options are mediocre and touristy.

Awesome spot just behind the main road. Food was so good and they kept it coming until we were so full. Fish was super crispy and well spiced, pickles and sides were amazing. I’m going back again tomorrow for sure

Here is the most delicious dosa in Varkala. It is not overcooked, as in many places. The owner of the cafe is a very pleasant woman. There is no menu, food will be prepared for you according to availability.

It always has been the best place in the area for the most beautiful home cooked food. I spend a lot of time in varkala and it is truly the most amazing authentic local food. Made with love!

The only place in the North Cliff worth having your meals from. A small place that offers authentic, homely Kerala meals. The Kerala style chicken curry was my fav !

Food was okay, nothing exciting. Atmosphere was pretty dead and their pricing seemed a bit random (although overall not unreasonable). There is no menu, just a choice of veg, chicken or fish curry. Fine for quick and cheap bite to eat, not much more.
