I had zero idea about Ships and Boats. Chose this place to make my boyfriend happy. This place has alot to offer. It gives you an idea of the history and how far this industry has grown. It took us less than an hour to look around. Great for kids to learn new things during your trip to Barcelona. Would recommend to families to definitely visit this place.

Being a student of nautical archaeology and a big history lover I fell in immediate love with this museum. It did not hurt that I was able to escape the shopping and tourist hordes to be found in other parts of Barcelona. To be sure, the most eye-catching display is clearly the exquisite full-scale reproduction of the Royal Galley. It’s location under one of the grand arches, very much like many of the ships built here in centuries past gave the impression of a cathedral dedicated to ship building. Any maritime history lover or any lover of sailing or boats will enjoy spending hours here. Great multi-language support on the signage.

My visit to the Barcelona Maritime Museum was a voyage through time. Exploring centuries of maritime history, from shipbuilding to naval exploration, was a captivating experience. The well-preserved vessels and nautical artifacts transported me to an era of seafaring adventures, offering a deep appreciation for Barcelona's maritime legacy. It was an educational and visually stunning journey that left me with a profound sense of the city's maritime heritage.

If you like history and boats from different eras this is the place for you. It has 1:20 models of all the important and historic boats. There are lots of other items related to boats such as engines, blades and items that used to be imported or export with the boats. There is also audio guide available in every language that makes the experience better. We spend around 30-45 mins inside. I would recommend it if you are close by.

I LOVED IT. Sadly my alergies kicked in since the air in Barcelona was really bad and Im sensitive so we couldn't finish the entire museum but from what we saw it was absolutely amazing, well structured, very cheap in price, very big even with 1:1 full sized ship inside. It was really nice, I highly recommend this museum.

Very nice museum especially for sea and sailing fans. Also gives a very good picture of the development of the Port of Barcelona over the ages. Good amount of models of variety of boats. Great perk: we went there on a Sunday afternoon and the entry was free from 15:00.

Pretty good museum with a large collection of maritime memorabilia and boating displays. A sizeable section of the museum had devotion to pictures of a famous artist, Ave being at the start of the museum detracted from the essence of 'maritime' aspect. The large ship reconstructed within the walls stood quite proud, but could have been made more impressive with the displays in either side were faced the other was as to not encapsulate the main display with their walls.

Great museum, interesting and suitable even for small kids. They can learn about evolution of boats and gow boat life looked like. There are a lot of great miniature boats, along with couple small full size ones and one big boat replica. On weekdays, the museum is not crowded. There is a restaurant here, where you can have some coffee or sandwitches.

You must visit this! Superb exhibits in mint condition as was the whole of the old renovated shipyards. All displays with descriptions in three languages and not dumbed-down information for kids. Great food and excellent value at the adjoining restaurant/cafe. Included in the €10 ticket is entry an old sailing ship in the harbour ... I'm off the later today, guaranteed to be good judging by yesterday's visit. Thank you

A museum containing several ancient ships and equipment. Pocket guides are available for free at the entrance. Suited nicely for children and families. Visited during the Nights of Museums, 13 May 2023. The palace also hosts events.

A lovely museum, very informative with a few interactive displays scattered throughout the museum, which allowed users to learn more about the different topics discussed. A recreation of the flagship was a great centerpiece to the museum, which allowed for a visualization of the magnitude of construction involved in building a large ship for the royal navy.

Very professional and a nice replica of a galley, but ultimately little of genuine interest unless you are very interested in the general transition from galleys to propellor driven ships. Good English support, very friendly staff. The cafe does terrible coffee.

A very good display of naval history. Audio guides are included. The displayed real size galley is awesome. The shown short movies are well made and informative. We didn't like that there were no instructions where to go and we mixed up the timeline. If you find yourself in the 19th century after the 13th century galley, you took the wrong turn.

It’s a great spot for 90 minutes with modern multi-lingual audio guides included in the entrance. They lead you through the exhibition without entering numbers :-). Great information in three languages on displays, enough interactive displays for younger ones. Some explanations are a bit political to demonstrate Catalunya‘s stake as a country (using the kingdom of Sicily to throw out the French ;-)). Interesting facets about life and history on the sea. In a beautiful ship factory. To revisit.

We really enjoyed our visit to this museum. It was back in February and still a lot of Covid restrictions were in place, but the museum stuff did a great job in organizing a safe and wonderful visit for everyone. The museum is very friendly, greatly organized and presents the naval history in a very entertaining manner. So, very recommended for families with children and for anyone who likes boats and history.

Amazing museum to learn about the history of sailing and shipping in Spain. This museum is housed in the former shipyard of Barcelona, and there’s an impressive replica of the Royal Spanish Galley. It’s very worth the 10 euro ticket price, and it’s not crowded despite the scale and huge amount of exhibits here.

Very nice boat museum. I personally am not for museums overall but worth checking out. The best time to go on Sundays after 3PM, when it is FREE!!! I expected it to be very crowded, or long lines to get in then, but that was not the case at all, when i went in at around 7 PM. I would say you an leisurely spend about 1.5 hours in there.

  • 5/5 Hector Castelli Z. 4 years ago on Google
A really cool museum. The replica inside the building is amazing and the audio guides really help understanding everything about it. Starting the tour by taking a look at the building you are currently in is very interesting and makes you appreciate how much history is in this place. The layout was a little confusing and the headphones were a little uncomfortable, but those are just minor details. Definitely worth it.

We went to see the Escher exposition. Over 200 prints and lots of videos and interactions! There was only one woodblock (the cat) so we were left hungry for more.

Like ships and/or history? Visiting Barcelona? Do NOT miss this museum! The best maritime museum I've ever visited. 1st, very large with very many super high quality displays of ships and related items. 2nd, there is a full-sized galley ship inside. It's based upon the flagship that fought in the Battle of Lepanto (super important battle centuries ago). 3rd, the breadth of what is covered is really impressive: models of ships of all types from ancient to modern, how critically maritime is to Catalunya and vice versa is shown very well with so many displays, descriptive text audio guides and short video recreation tie everything together, and all of the museum is within the rehabilitated ancient shipbuilding yards. Fantastic.

Good range of static and audio visual displays explaining the maritime history of the region. The museum itself is housed in the old naval boat repair workshop, itself a highlight of the museum. Most appreciated all information also displayed in English.

Beautifully restored ship building area - dating back to pre medieval times when the waves literally reached the doors of the complex. Exhibitions of all ship related things - from slave power to modern day. Centre piece is the massive Doges boat from Venice. The cafe area is very pleasant also. Very enjoyable visit. Recomended.

Cool museum! Beginning is a bit boring, with many photos and just info. But as further you go, as more exciting it is. A lot of ships models with description and finally real huge row-boat build in 1970s in the local shipyard.

The Maritime Museum of Barcelona is dedicated to shipbuilding between the thirteenth century and eighteenth century. The first mention of these arsenals date from 1243 in a document indicating the boundaries of the city of Barcelona where it mentions its shipyard. It shows the history of the navigation from the early days together with the history of the Spanish Navy since the Catholic Monarchs, in the 15th century, up to the present. It also hosts several navigation instruments, weapons, portolans and paintings. The museum was declared Museum of National Interest by the Government of Catalonia.

Often the temporary exhibition worth a visit. This one was an immersive exhibition about Pompei. You can walk on the street of popei with a 3d Basque and you really feel being inside the city. It’s mainly for children but adults can enjoy it as well.

An outstanding collection of nautical and maritime artifacts along many very detailed models all housed in a magnificently restored shipyard. By happy coincidence, we attended on International Museum Day and enjoyed free admission. The restaurant, Norai Raval, is worth a visit for the menu del dia, even if you don't visit the museum. However, the best plan is both! Also included with museum admission is a visit to the sailing ship Santa Eulalia, which is moored a short walk away.

For me, that was one of the biggest surprise in Barcelona. Just the reconstructed gally would worth the price, and it should be the place on the biggest attraction list of Barcelona.

Museum structure circa 1243, over 700 years old. Free on Sunday, most impressive exhibition is the full scale galley. Worth visiting if you're into ancient marine technology but it's not very hands on.
