My husband and I visited the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art on a rainy afternoon during our holiday. I will be first to admit that I’m not the biggest art gallery fan, but I was pleasantly surprised. The highlight for me was the exhibition by Laura Lima, which was an ever-changing artwork concept. I spent almost an hour sat watching the different artworks being showcased, and it was as much fun to watch as it was fascinating. Overall, I had a great time at the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, and I would highly recommend a visit to see Laura Lima whilst she’s still showcasing her artwork there too!

I went at 14:00. There were few crowds, so I was able to appreciate it slowly and carefully. It was very interesting with exhibits such as Basquiat's art and old false HIV advertisements. There was also a booth about war, which was very thought-provoking and a reminder that things shouldn't be repeated. 11€ and entrance fee are also conscientious. It seems that there is a free day, so if you want to keep costs down, I recommend checking online early.

The Barcelona Museum of Modern Art stands as a breathtaking testament to the fusion of contemporary architecture and avant-garde art, making it an essential visit for enthusiasts and casual observers alike. The structure itself is a masterpiece, with its innovative design and use of space that challenges traditional museum layouts. Its bold lines and imaginative use of light and shadow create an immersive experience, setting the stage for the treasures held within. Inside, the museum's permanent collection showcases a thoughtfully curated selection of works that span the breadth of modern art, featuring both established and emerging artists. The collection is a vibrant tapestry of artistic expressions, encompassing a range of mediums and styles that reflect the dynamic nature of contemporary art. Each piece is thoughtfully displayed, inviting visitors to engage in a dialogue with the art and explore the stories and ideas that animate these works. The temporary exhibitions are particularly noteworthy for their originality and innovation. These exhibitions are carefully selected to challenge perceptions and push the boundaries of what art can be. They often feature interdisciplinary works that blend technology, science, and art, creating immersive experiences that are both intellectually stimulating and emotionally resonant. These exhibitions are a testament to the museum's commitment to being at the forefront of contemporary art, providing a platform for groundbreaking artists and ideas. The Barcelona Museum of Modern Art is more than just a museum; it is a beacon of creativity and a hub for cultural exchange. Its stunning architecture and the cutting-edge art it houses make it a must-visit destination, offering a unique and enriching experience that lingers long after one leaves its halls. Whether you are a seasoned art aficionado or simply looking for an inspiring day out, this museum is sure to captivate and enchant in equal measure.

Great Museum. When entering a friendly worker greeted me and gave me a sticker to put on my clothes - the entry was for free. Current exhibition there was taking a closer look at the work and life of Nancy Holt. The exhibition was fantastically curated and I had a wonderful time. Rest of the museum was fascinating as well. Giftshop is also very playful and has a wide selection of books in particular. 5/5⭐

This museum is an absolute must for people who enjoy arts! On Saturdays between 4pm - 8pm it's free admission! The museum exhibits so much incredible works. It has 3 levels and all of them tell their own story. Tip: take a good amount of time out of your day to explore the works, because there are so many of them! :)

This is one of the best places to spend some time and to open your mind while looking at interesting pieces of modern art. For me as a photographer, this place is full of unique spots to create breathtaking images. If you are in Barcelona for few days and you want to do something during the day go visit it. Check the opening times before going because they close one day during the week.

I loved this museum. Take your time to enjoy the exhibitions, we will take two days to see the whole museum. It's very large, there are three floors with each their own exhibition. The building itself is also a piece of art. To me, this is something you must have seen visiting Barcelona.

Big and nice museum of modern art. Some of art work I personally found to be quite not impressive but some were quite good. As any museum it is a bit boring and cold but no surprise. On Sundays we could book a free entries, so thanks a lot for that ! To enter is fast and easy and not too crowded and quite lots of space.

It just wasn't for me , there were no signs or anything to go with the art that was up so it was hard to see who made it. I did enjoy the fun obstacle course on the top floor with objects that looked like they were covered in tar ? But again no signage to back up my thoughts

It would be nice to put some stickers to let people know where to start the expositions, but maybe because it doesn't really matter in the contemporany art, but yeah i felt a little bit confused during my visit. Overall, the space is big and very well organized , the themes were not really to my liking but it was a great experience. It's 3 floors and i spent almost 1h30 to visit all of it.

This place is really great, inside and out. It’s got all things amazing art to look at on the inside, and incredible skateboarders to watch outside once you’re done visiting. It’s good coming in earlier in the morning to get more quiet time. Perfect place to visit on a sunny day!! :)

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at MACBA, the changing exhibits every few months make this worth coming back to, and being placed right in the middle of hipsterville is awesome. Great coffee and food options nearby and plenty of time to discuss how the pieces moved you.

The building architecture is cool, and there are many people skateboarding outside which was also very cool, however the art inside the museum didn't inspire me at all, and I find it hard to believe it would inspire other people. Perhaps if I had taken the time to read through everything I might have had a better experience, but I was carrying a heavy backpack that they made me wear in front (instead of on my back), so I almost felt rushed getting through the museum because I was uncomfortable. I went on a Sunday, and there was almost no one inside. If you go to Barcelona, I would recommend checking out another museum instead of this one... Quick recommendation, if you are in this area, check out Departure Coffee. I went there right after visiting the museum since it was only a couple minutes walk, and it was very relaxing (great to study as well).

I loved this museum. If you like contemporary art you must visit this place. The museum has wide range of art. I also stayed a long time inside since it has allot to offer. I really enjoyed the political influences the art and the museum has. One small thing that I really enjoyed where the skaters in front of the museum. The MACBA museum is just amazing.

Very underwhelming. To be very honest, artistically, the museum has very little to offer and it mostly represents the kind of contemporary art which is full of itself but had very little actual content. However, an absolute highlight were the photography pieces my Francesc Torres which are simply mind blowing. Perhaps the museum is worth visiting just for those gems alone, even if you don’t appreciate the rest.

In this museum full of sunlight 🌞😎, I rethink the definition of living organisms at Hans haacke's condensation cube as the minimalistic representation of a self-sufficient thing that unpredictably varies to respond to the environment. ⬛ I appreciated carles pujol's kaleidoscope 🌈 with changing projections of a leaning frame in the elegant music of Schubert , of creating dynamics and colors out of simple humble objects. In a theatre of doubts 🎭, I am reminded to not listen to only one opinion🤔 . The relation between sports 🏀 and wars is interestingly presented by siegesallee's two rows of helmets. ⛑️

Key spot to understand Catalan and Spanish art and culture. There are also temporary exhibits with worldwide famous pieces! These pics are from 08/2022, so art pieces might change🖼 Pro tip from a local: Make sure you book your ticket on Saturdays (free afternoons, gets vvvv busy) and don’t stay in the area too long, because it gets a bit dangerous in the evening/night!

I really enjoyed the experience here. The exhibition was on AI and it was really fun and informative. The interactive pieces were the best. It wasn't too crowded when we went. I suggested buying tickets in advance or getting the museum passport but there wasn't a queue to get in.

Two exhibitions were closed at the time, staff was careful to notify visitors before they bought tickets. It was just an in between time to visit museum, after the holidays. I purchased tickets at a discount due to it being non peak visiting hours. Staff was incredibly kind and helpful, some staff spoke great English and those that didn’t were still very helpful. I downloaded the online tour guide in English and using it with the museum Wi-Fi and my AirPods. The Wi-Fi password is on your ticket. The courtyard at the museum entrance is a skateboarder hangout, don’t be intimidated, enjoy watching the skaters do their tricks, they usually mess up but every now and then someone does a cool trick! Museum collection was very eclectic and abstract, interesting to visit. Come with an open mind. Two artists had commentaries on AI from very different perspectives which I appreciated. Not for everyone but I recommend if you are an art appreciator. I enjoyed the gift shop too!

The place...So.so, good art and collection, and exquisite building. Some areas too much light, to be a museum. But the city.. Thanks to mayor's rules and excess of tourism, is becoming unhabitable for citizens. Tourist, please, do not suggest other to come Barcelona :(

(Translated by Google) Well, could I explain why I value this museum only with 3 stars, although its work as a museum is exceptional. The real problem is the artistic content that is exposed in it. If we compare it with the artistic representations of previous centuries we can consider ourselves a terrible disgust. The chronology of this space begins after 1930, and we can see that creativity is petty compared to what a da Vinci or Goya could contribute. However, I must admit that in this museum there are incredible things such as what the Beatles, Stones, the Doors and other geniuses who shook the world with their music represent. After visiting it I was left with a bittersweet taste, where I even judged my ability as an art critic, and the reality is that the museum simply exposes what we were. To my particular taste, and observing how poor art is today, I can understand that all these last hundred years leave much to be desired compared to the magnanimous, stupefying and genius of previous centuries.

Barcelona is Europe's skateboarding capital and Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (aka MACBA) is its center – the capitol of skateboarding, if you will: ledges, stairs, cirbs, perfect flatground, high andlow drops. Since years it's the first spot for skateboard tourists to come here – skate, film tricks, meets friends and party. Sadly, there is a lot of pickpocketing and waste being thrown away. No wonder the locals don't go here often...

Must visit place for those, who wants to see something outstanding and into the art of spanish and european artist overall. In addition place itself impresses a lot with it's clean white concrete and glass facade with ensemble of sharp strict lines and softed, rounded, yet geometric forms. Located inside of a tiny and cozy square, so it creates an impression of really huge volume and heights in comparison with nearby buildings. So if you're an art seeker and city explorer - this place is definitely should be visited. Also, enomorous store inside with loads of various artist merch, books etc.

It is a very nice museum, and it is not typically busy unless it is the first Sunday. The permanent gallery was very nice with some history and the progression of art shown as examples. The two rotating installations were also very interesting. A lot of the art takes a long time to get through and a while to understand or create your own thoughts about it. One of the most unique art museums that I have been to.

In a city where sustainable transport is supposed to be promoted it is a shame not to be able to enter one of the city’s main cultural centers for this reason. Many other museums and facilities in the city have let us leave them in a corner despite the context of the pandemic. We returned the following week and enjoyed our visit, also with the children. The outside: Such an interesting and amazing view over Barcelona's rooftops when you look up at the building. It mirrors almost the entire city. An original point of view... I didn't get inside, but I heard good things about the exhibitions.

Not a fan of such modern art, there was 10% nice installations. But most of them useless star, with no beauty, art or real sense. They try’s to buy you with the really “deep” thoughts in the notes near to them. But all of that scam and pretending to be something. Sad(((

MACBA is a must within the Barcelona arts circuit. It’s a really big and spacious museum and would recommend to go with enough time as there’s a lot to enjoy. Also if you get the arts ticket which gives you access to several museums for €35 your ticket will be cheaper and it has its own window at the museum.

A really interesting place to visit. When I went there were some performance based art as well, with mechanical objects dancing and moving in a large area. Definitely a unique experience and was really fun to do. Each area has the information boxes in various languages so if you're not fluent Spanish you can still understand what is going on or what the pieces are about. Really interesting and well worth the visit.

This is an interactive and evolving concept of museum. It's more than images and items on display. The museum's exterior is currently the hot spot for skateboarders from around the world, which adds to its interest. The museum is certainly worth a visit.

Excellent contemporary art museum with interesting exhibits, surrounded by an area with plenty of street art. Also apparently a bit of a mecca for skaters on the square outside. 😎

  • 5/5 Phil 11 months ago on Google
This is a stunning building with some really interesting works. Unlike Moco, it's a much more alive, rather than being a collection of expensive exhibits of, largely, super famous artists. It's an amazing space - worth the ticket price easily.

  • 2/5 Damon P. 1 year ago on Google
Unfortunately very disappointed. I don't know what exhibitions they had before, but in March '23 was only installations a lot of videos as we don't have enough screens around us all the time. No paintings , no sculptures. Beautiful building though and free entrance on Saturday.

I think it is the worst contemporary art musuem I ever been. 5% of all exhibitions are paintings. I really think it is the most boring musuem.

Good Mmuseum for contemporary art with ever changing exhibitions. Building was designed Richard Meyer Architects in the 1990s. You should have an interest in contemporary art to enjoy the visit. Saturday afternoons are free of charge. If you book online, you can skip the queue. The building is air conditioned, so it is also a good escape from the summer heat.

Great Museum with fantastic architecture by Richard Meier and fabulous exhibition and installations. When I was there I had a opportunity to check the Nancy Holt works. The greatest moment of the visit was to see the skaters on the plaza, great atmosphere!

Iast time I visited in was closed. Glad I got to see the interior which is the main attraction. The art / installation is a bit dull. But the area around and the building itself is very vibrant but I’d recommend eating closer to the port the food is better

Despite the fact that MacBa is housed in a very beautiful building, its contents leave a lot to be desired! I found it boring and lacking information as regards the exhibits! Its greatest asset is its well stocked souvenir shop on the ground floor.

Beautiful modern museum in old Barcelona. Located in the heart of the city, it´s plaza is populated with dozens of skaters enjoying the hard concrete in front. A must see to the lovers of contemporary art! Free in the first sunday of each month.
