(Translated by Google) Built between 1902 and 1904 by Enric Sagnier, it was commissioned by Ruperto Garriga-Nogués. The Garriga-Nogués family resided in the principal until 1936. Particularly noteworthy is the lobby, formed by a courtyard of classical columns, illuminated zenitially by a skylight of polychrome glass in whose center is the stately staircase, marble, which rises to the noble floor, occupied by the Mapfre Foundation since 2015 and serving of exhibition hall. The upper floors are occupied by a hotel.

Arte moderne city centre palace now used to host exhibitions. Low entry fee, I saw a great Duane Michaels exhibition. Worth a visit if only to walk around the rooms and see the original decorative features.

Excellent, periodic art exhibitions, sponsored by the Mapfre Foundation and housed in a beautiful Modernista building, work of the architect Enric Sagnier, at the end of 19th century. Apart from the art, one can admire the grand marble staircase in the interior, the stained glass windows and the four sculptured columns supporting the balcony, representing the four stages of human life, a work of Eusebi Arnau.

Excellent and inspiring photographic exhibition space with small bookshop. Fully compliant with mobility, security and Covid-19 regulations. I saw the exhibition from Claudia Andujar which was so thought provoking about a Brazilian tribe and their way of life whose livelihood is under constant threat from the Government and minerals prospectors.

Small space but good for very focused exhibitions. Enjoyed the b&w photography by Bill Brandt specially for his particular view/look/perception of his object. He is telling a story with his photos.

The curatorship is incredible, I loved the exhibition. Excellent choice to inaugurate the KBr foundation

  • 5/5 Pablo D. O. 3 years ago on Google
The curation of the two first exhibits I've seen here show great care, and the center, although small, is above other offers for photography exhibition spaces. Highly recommended.

(Translated by Google) As a building, it can be said that it has an undeniable interest, since the central hall is already very beautiful, both for the colored skylight that crowns it and for the development of the staircase inside. As for the exhibition part, these are usually quite interesting from the artistic point of view.

The exhibitions they host are amazing, I’ve been to three different ones and it was always super interesting. I love that they have information in English, not only in Spanish and Catalan. I found that many museums in Bcn only have it in Spanish/Catalan

Excellent exhibition of Richard Learoyd's photography, done with his unique camera obscura. The building itself is well worth a visit - it used to belong to a banking family and the opulence of the floors and ceilings bears testimony to its grand past.

Museum of forbidden artworks. Impressive collection of historic artworks that, by one or other reasons have been banned from publis exhibition, likely due to cryticism against institutions an governments. Samples include artworks from exceptional and incontestable geniuses, but not limited to, such as Goya, Picasso to, nowadays, Warhol and Banksy. I strongly recommend it for those who love art fighting against the establishment.

  • 5/5 jaqsbcn 4 months ago on Google
Amazing. The explanation is about how is forbidden not what it means, so you can imagine the intention of the artist. I love to be part of a city where all this art is allowed and respected.

  • 5/5 E 4 months ago on Google
It’s a photography museum with an amazing program. I don’t understand why people review it as a museum of forbidden art, it’s a different museum!!

(Translated by Google) Very sad that a company like Mapfre is engaged in other issues, and when it comes to providing a good service in insurance, always find the small print to leave the customer unattended and not take responsibility for the insured vendors. Better to work for another insurance company.
