Synagogue from the Roman times. 3.5€ but really small. Short history talk about the history of the synagogue. Very informative but short and they had a few things to see. Max 10 minutes here.

Super tiny and basic. Worth the €3 for the 15 min talk on the history of the space but nothing too elaborate or interesting

Incredible experience!!! To be in a synagogue over 1000 years old... You can see the foundation from Roman times. The story of how it was uncovered is amazing. Make sure you follow a map because the entrance is so unassuming that you're liable to walk by the synagogue and never realize it's there.

Very small Synagogue (I know it's called Major, but it's tiny). Thats because jews weren't allowed to build big synagogues in order not to overshadow christian churches. I almost missed it, so be on the look. Ticket price is just 4 EUR, but I wish I left more to support this place. They have some interesting religious artifacts, including tora scripts, menorah, etc.

Located in the Jewish quarter within the Gothic quarter of the city, the Major Synagogue of Barcelona was the most emblematic point of the Jews in Barcelona, although today it is not a place of worship, its cultural objective is the evolution of the Jewish presence, its customs, the heritage and the relationship with the Catalan people. This synagogue was hidden for a long time after the Jews were expelled in 1492 and was recently rediscovered. A very small place full of history for a synagogue that dates back a 1000 years. The guide and explanations were very good and it is worth a visit to learn more about the community.

I enjoyed my visit to The Ancient Synagogue of Barcelona last summer. It felt surreal to see all the ornaments from the ancient times and really enjoyed the informative talk given by the guides there.

For a very small donation, you can learn about the Jewish population of Barcelona and see their ancient synagogue. It is fascinating!

Remnants of the main synagogue of Barcelona. Do not expect an actual synagogue, the Jewish community was forcefully converted in 1391, and it's main sites thoroughly destroyed. What remains of Jewish memory in Barcelona is scattered, and easy to overlook. The hidden gem here are the guided visits the synagogue provides in Spanish, English, Hebrew, etc. They will help you to understand jewish life in medieval Barcelona.

The whole Call was a really neat little bit of Barcelona I had not expected to exist before researching. The synagogue was tiny and they offer short tours for very cheap.

Nice museum, the £2.50 entry fee included a tour in English with a very knowledgeable and informative guide. Most of the artifacts in the museum are nut from Spain since there is little remaining from the Spanish Jews. There was also a small gift shop where you can get some souvenirs.

Some cool history. A shame that the majority of the ancient synagogue is now a restaurant but regardless it’s amazing some of it’s recovered.

What a gem that you can easily walk by not knowing the significance. A Jewish synagogue from the 3rd century during Roman times. It’s like stepping back in time. Small spot with a tonne of history. Only 4 euros and the tour is included. Only 15 mins but so much amazing information. Totally a must visit.

  • 5/5 Karmi S. 5 months ago on Google
A very important and special piece of history. Only 4€ entrance fee and accept cards. Knowledgeable hosts that provide a wealth of information- very friendly and give a great overview on the history in the synagogue. Definitely worth a visit.

Very interesting tour of this second oldest synagogue in Europe tucked away in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. A must see! Elena who was our docent was extremely knowledgeable about the history of this important synagogue that is lovingly and thoughtfully restored.

We was not able to find the place on our first visit to Barcelona. It was around midnight in the middle of October - very common time for Barcelona to be out and explore place around. We wanted to find the Ancient Synagogue to be able to come here again at the day time. Interesting to say, at we were not alone, there was another couple trying to find the place - no luck. We returned next year at the day time, we did it! It was worth the time and money to know the background of the Call carrer (Jewish community location in Barcelona).
