A fine looking column commemorating Columbus reporting to Queen Isabella in Barcelona after his historic voyage to the New World. The monument itself is NOT from the 15th century, it was built in 1888 for a world fair. There is an elevator inside the column that will take you to a viewing deck for about 5 euro. Interestingly, Columbus points toward Africa, not America (probably because if he was positioned to point towards the west he'd be pointing to the interior of Spain not the sea....). This column is considered a kind of a must in Barcelona, but in my opinion it's not that special, every bigger city in Europe seems to have a column with some character on top of it.

Nice sight to see. But I can not recommend to go there when it's dark. I thought it would maybe be good when the sight is illuminated with lights but there is no light. So please do not go there in the evening when it's dark 😊

A tower that you can climb up for a good view. Also, there is a tourist information in the tower. You may take a city map, buy a bus tour ticket, and ask some questions about where to go in Barcelona. Noted, the traffic is dangerous to go across the circle. Be careful and watch out the rush bicycles.

Amazing monument next to Barcelona harbor! I would definitely recommend visiting it because it's an important part of Spain's history. Also, it is massive and well ornamented.

There is an elevator right in the middle of the tower that you can go up and enjoy the view. You may need to get there before 2pm before they’re closed

I came pass this monument on the way to a museum. I thought it look like a nice structure to take a decent photo. It takes a fair bit getting to if you don't have the right transport card like the situation we found we did a lot more walking needed otherwise most people will be ok. Just a note, don't get the Barcelona Card. This monument is really nice to take a photo on and easy to take one where you're riding the horse which I did with slight difficulty due to wearing thongs. The area is well lit but have some smokers lurking. Overall well worth visiting as it's the start of the little market in the middle with many cheap paellas restaurants on the side that sells reasonably priced ones. There are also like 10 identical or near identical souvenir shops along this strip and people that throw these spinny things in the air and tries to the sell it to you.

A beautiful monument within a beautiful square. Unfortunately it was all in the dark at night when I reached Barcelona. It might be due to energy issues or God knows what. I was expecting to see a glittering monument and the square.

Amazing monument next to Barcelona harbor! I would definitely recommend visiting it because it's an important part of Spain's history. Also, it is massive and well ornamented. A historically very significant person, almost every student knows who Christopher Columbus is. The Monument was built in 1888 to honor Christopher Columbus when he disembarked from Barcelona to find the New World. The statue stands at 60 meters high and is located at the end of La Rambla. Where does he point with his hand, what do you think? ;) There is an elevator right in the middle of the tower that you can go up and enjoy the view. You may need to get there before 2pm before they’re closed

Love it. If we look at the accomplishment of explorers through the lens of their day instead of the politics of today, the monuments all over Barcelona are appropriately abundant. The vandalism is really sad, but the crowd shows most people still appreciate Columbus

It's worth the €8 to take the elevator to the top for unobstructed 360° views of the sea front and back up La Rambla. Space is a premium at the top, and the elevator only fits 3-4 at a time (plus operator) so worth getting there early before it gets too busy.

Located around the seaport of Barcelona with a gigantic status of Columbus. There is a big underground parking garage in the area as well. A 3 15 to 30 minutes ferry ride can be experienced around the sea port area.

Great area to visit amazing statue and cool things to see around the area. A lot of human statues, restaurants and “vendors” if your into getting things from them. Great photos to take since u can get on the lions and right by the shore line as well for a nice photo. A lot of sitting room and bus stops all around for easy transportation.

Well maintained and a must see stop at the end of La Rambla. Plus the lions are pretty cool

  • 5/5 Tamás P. 1 year ago on Google
Definitely gives a good vibe to the city, it's awesome that every time I used the public transport, I could see the silhouette of this monument in between the palm trees!

  • 5/5 André L. 4 months ago on Google
Located in between the end of “La Rambla” and “port vell” is a very nice sculpture. Should know more about it but never went deep on its history. Is very nice to walk from las Ramblas or moll de la fusta and see this monument, even from Barceloneta it can be seen. Full of details is a mandatory stop when visiting the city. Try to hide one of the lions and take a photo! Lol!

Historical place, we enjoyed a boat ride which is 10 euro per adult. Shopping Malls, Riverside restaurants make this place special.

The place is bit shady at night. You won’t see many people at night and it seems low but sketchy. Avoid this monument at night.

Interesting, but definitely not a must see in Barcelona. Its practically a monument in the centre of a roundabout. In the victinity, one can find several establishments like cafes, bars and restaurants. The place is very close to the city centre and thus easily accessible by walk or the public transport.

It's a great place for an evening stroll. It has a great monument of Columbus and a sea view along with a lot of docked boats and yachts. It has cool breeze and a place to relax. It also has a pop up markets now and then for different stuff. It's at the end of the las ramblas street and hence highly walkable.

  • 4/5 Toby B. 11 months ago on Google
It's like most monuments...it's a good photo spot but most people don't even know what it exactly commemorates. It's in the middle of a very busy roundabout and it creates a little havoc when all the Instagrammers and similars stop of the middle of the congested crosswalk to get photos. Just snap a photo from the safety of the harborside sidewalk or from the middle AFTER you completely cross traffic. It was under renovation when we went so there was a lot of debris and fences. However, we view it as a positive that they are maintaining and preserving it.

A more like hidden tourist spot in spite of the big tourist sculpture. It's a paid ticket to go to the top for a 360 degree view of the city and definitely worth. Equally amazing sculpture outside

The first lift in Barcelona. Great 360 degree view of the harbor area. Feels like a unique secret experience that most tourists will miss.

Hidden little place that offer some beautiful sights from the top of the monument. The top is small. There are windows that you can open for better pictures. It's a tight place and you will be up there for around 5 or less minutes. You can stay longer if you want to.

Nice monument with information centre underground and a viewpoint up there just under Mr Colom. There are no stairs, just a small elevator inside the column - it takes four people. And it's been there since 1888, one of the first elevators of the city (the old elevator is not there of course anymore!). Perfect views of Barcelona, Port, Montjuïc. Worth the 6€ [2/20] for sure.

Loved the place. So spacious. Nicely planned. Good view all around. Very planned systematic placement of centre stage and pillar. One will enjoy and love this place.

The view from the top is amazing. Lift and the viewing deck are small so not really for claustrophobic people. It gets busy around sunset. The staff is worth recognition! They go out of their way to give you best experience.

In the end of La Rambla and the beginning of the port, you will find Mirador de Colom. The statue is surrounded by big lions, and Colin’s finger is pointing the Americans, the continent he discovered. The view is amazing and always lots of people. Be careful with your belongings, lots of pickpockets around.

(Translated by Google) The imposing and spectacular monument is located in the vast Portal de la Pau square, at the end of the Rambla and very close to the port, consisting of an iron column, 60 meters high, on which rests the 7 meter high statue of Christopher Columbus, which it represents him standing with his right arm stretched out to indicate the sea or perhaps Genoa, his hometown; the column rests on a stone base with numerous statues, imposing those of the lions and has an elevator inside, which leads to a hemisphere, under the statue, from where you can admire a 360-degree panorama of the city; it was inaugurated on June 1, 1888, on the occasion of the Universal Exposition.

This is a well placed monument to Christopher Columbus. Part of the culture of exploration of a planet, this statue reminds us that travel to points unknown is part of who we are.
