We stayed here last November. We wanted to go for a budget-friendly place and this was the best option we could find. The room was decorated nicely and everything was really clean. No remarks about that. However, the service during our stay was another story. On the website we booked, it said that our breakfast was included. When we checked in, the owner of the hotel confirmed that breakfast was included. However, during check-out the owner claimed that we had to pay extra. We told him that he himself had said that the breakfast was included, but he said that we were lying about it. He even said that he wasn’t at the hotel during our check-in! He was very passive-aggressive and arrogant during this conversation. (As are the replies to most reviews on here!) We also had another unpleasant experience during check-out. We left our luggage at the desk since we had some time left before we had to catch our train home. When we came back to pick them up, there was nobody at the reception desk. We tried calling them several times, but they didn’t answer the phone. We even looked around the hotel, but we couldn’t find anyone. We waited for +15 minutes. Eventually I had to go in the luggage room myself to get our luggage because we would’ve missed our train otherwise. Another negative point about this hotel is the location. This is not exactly the safest location in Paris. I didn’t feel safe at all coming back in the evening. There were shady people all around the hotel and they constantly tried selling us things. There’s a lot of police activity, so that shows that this neighbourhood isn’t that safe. If we had known this, we would’ve opted for a more expensive hotel. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel. The room was okay, but the service (from the owner) ruined part of the trip for us.

I loved my stay here and am saving it for next time. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by Stephanie whose customer service skills were magnifique! She made me feel super taken care of during my two day stay. The room felt like a spa. It was super relaxing stay and the mini bar is quite cute. All the customers interactions with staff were super pleasant. All around great energy here. I will be recommending!

We stayed as a couple on May 12th. The hotel lobby and reception are decorated well with sumptuous velvet like material on the chairs and well curated books and nicknacks upon the shelves. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming and all spoke very good English which helped as my French is certainly not fluent. The self serve breakfast in the lobby was small but tasty, fresh pastries, a lovely little creamy yogurt with a strawberry conserve and some tasty soft cheeses and some other items available, more than enough to get the day started. Coffee was provided by the bar. Rooms were of a petit but suitable size as a base to sleep, not huge but what you would expect from a boutique hotel and equally well furnished. As others have mentioned our view was out onto the building opposite not particularly pretty but completely out of the hotels control. Now for the area, it is very close to Barbès - Rochechouart which is a blessing for travel but also a curse as it is certainly an experience especially around the station, there is a constant presence of people mostly male on street corners, one can only guess at their occupation but at a guess I would say it wasn't legal. Just keep your wits about you when making your way through this melee, bags on the front and valuables preferably in inside coat pockets would be the way to go. We were never hassled as two men but I could imagine it would be uncomfortable for women. I wouldn't walk around near the station at night but that's just my personal preference. The interesting thing is a few minutes walk the other side of the tracks to the south is actually great, there are sheltered parades of antique shops, old book shops and modernist paintings and prints for sale, it has a totally different feel. My thinking is somebody has to be at the vanguard of an areas improvement and Maison Barbès is leading the way. The hotel felt secure for our stay and there was always somebody on the desk, we were able to leave our bags there for the day as our Eurostar was later in the evening. The hotel is very near Gard du Nord, walking distance in fact. I deducted a star for the location as for the aforementioned issues out of the hotels control however it is still very well placed to get into Paris centre and for other attractions.

My Husband and I have just completed our stay at the hotel. Wow we loved it! We’ve come to Paris quite a few times and were so impressed with the hotel. All of the staff were lovely, so friendly and accommodating. We were upgraded rooms for free. The hotel decor was so stylish you felt as though you actually wanted to hang out in the lobby 🤣 The hotel was quiet, had a gym, a great bar and we appreciated being able to easily book to use the sauna, which you get personal use of. We had a great meal at the nearby brasserie, and appreciated the convenience of the location (right by a Metro station and very near to Gare du Nord). Overall we loved our stay, and were so impressed by the price to quality of hotel, having paid 2-3 times as much for other hotels in Paris that were nowhere near as nice previously. We hope to stay again in future!

Stayed here for two weeks The staff were so lovely. The bedrooms were slightly smaller than some, everything was high quality and care had gone into the decor and furnishings choices. Good powerful shower and super comfortable bed. Breakfast had an excellent choice of various food and the homemade coulis on yoghurt pots were especially good. I didn’t use the gym or sauna as it was so hot outside and I loved going to the Sacré-Cœur

Wonderful staff and rooms. The building is cute and clean, and housekeeping was great. I found the location to be great for getting around Paris via the 4 line, or you can walk to major places in less than an hour. The breakfast is quite nice as well! I stayed for 8 nights and got breakfast on mornings I had to be somewhere early.

I got the balcony suite and it was tiny. Like Tokyo tiny. There was no closet, no space for our suitcases except folding it up and placing it in front of the door. The bathroom was so small it was hard to turn around. So compact. The bed, however, was very comfortable and the service was friendly. I am not sure this qualifies as a 4 star hotel, but we had a decent stay even though the room was incredibly cramped.

["Glad we found this one! Had a one-night event in town and had to be close. This hotel was perfect. Small, quiet room off the main road. Friendly, bilingual staff were very helpful. Nice little bar in the lobby. Would certainly return!",null,[0,234]]

TLDR (Res See Bellow): Nice hotel with good transport links and shopping; perfect for shorter stays. The people are nice and the breakfast is adequate in variety and quality. The rooms are nice, clean and functional; as written, there is no minibar or kettle etc. (small minuses). The soundproofing is only slightly muffled (you can hear others talking, walking etc.) which can be a problem (in my case it was quiet enough at night). Overall 4.2/5.0 The hotel looks beautiful from the outside, with a royal blue and gold theme and an automatic door. The elegant and regal dark blue and emerald green theme runs through the reception hall. I think this was perfect as I prefer a darker theme. Someone who likes pink will not like the theme. However, it was not too dark for me (it was sufficiently lit). The reception room is small, but adequate for the space available (guest number). The chairs and tables are nice and there is also a sofa. There is also WiFi access. There is also a bar in the lobby. I do not know if snacks are served there, but as it is a 4 star hotel and there is no restaurant, there must be a small snack served. I did not use the bar, so I can only guess. The staff are nice and friendly. They speak at least English and French. There is also a lift. If you want, you can use the online check-in and check-out. I prefer the old method of going to reception. There is a fitness room and sauna, but I did not use them. So I can not say anything about it. A small minus point is the deposit of 100€ for any damages. You can pay with cash or credit card (I used cash). I know this is common in other countries, but my personal opinion is against it. If I book online with a credit card, be it direct, via Booking etc, you have my details for any damages. In my own country, at least in the three hotels I stay in, they do not take a deposit as they have my details. It's not their fault, but that's a general attitude to the whole process. Overall 4.9/5.0.

["We stayed last month for a few nights and it was terrific! It was clean, pleasant, and the staff was amazing. The breakfast was excellent. We loved walking around the Montmartre area from here (very good restaurants), and it is close to a metro stop. Be aware that the rooms are small, but who, while visiting Paris, is going to do anything but sleep and shower at a hotel? Even though the neighborhood appears slightly rougher than some other neighborhoods, we never, ever felt unsafe. We would absolutely stay here again!",null,[0,239]]

We stayed here on our last night in Paris. The toilet was not clean and the shower drain was clogged. Since it was only one night, we didn't bother complaining; however, I came home to find that my card was charged an additional 100 euros. When I inquired with the hotel, I was told it was for smoking in my room and disturbing other guests. Neither I nor my fiance smoke so this is impossible. Stay at your own risk and check your credit card statement after your stay if you do so.

0/5. Rude customer service forcing my wife and I to leave the same day we checked in as we did not feel comfortable staying here after our front desk encounter. Do yourself a favor and look at different hotel options.

We stayed at this lovely boutique hotel for a couple of days, and I could not fault it! Very cosy and the ambience is great! The rooms were very clean with really nice bathrooms and sophisticated decor.. They were more on the smaller side ,but enough for a couple! I heard a lot of rumours about the area, but I never felt unsafe as such. Maybe you need to be aware of your surroundings but that is the same for every big city all around the world! In fairness, the location is amazing, 1 minute walk from the metro station, and a short walk to Gare du Nord and Sacré Coeur , so what more do you need... Also, once you walk a bit further from the metro station, only a short distance, you will find amazing bars, bistros, restaurants, and small boutique shops. I have stayed a few times in Paris and paid double (if not more) the price for hotels nowhere near as nice as Maison Barbes. For a short stay, I would highly recommend this hotel!

300 eur in October is too much. Tiny rooms, broken toilet buttons. This hotel doesn’t deserve a fourth star just for being renovated (3-5 years old). Last August booked a similar size room in the parallel street 3 times less expensive. Disappointed

Weird smell in the room and very dark. I stayed in a classic with terrace. Shower was good once I had cleaned the shower head so the water could come out. The service was friendly but not very good. I ask for an iron and an ironing board but could only get the iron with the recommendation to use the bed as the board. It worked but hardly what I'd expect from 4 stars. It's not bad but not worth the money.
