Definitely my favorite stop while visiting Paris. My daughter and I were visiting from NY and this was at the top of my 'must see' list. Aside from being absolutely breathtaking, it was our one stop that was thoroughly enjoyable and manageable. No long lines or shoulder to shoulder crowds (or tons of stairs...because I'm getting old), and we were able to take in everything in an afternoon...Though I still wish I could have just laid down on the floor and stared at the ceiling for a few more hours, because it was just so stunning, with so much detail you could never possibly absorb it all or capture it all in pictures.

What a lovely place. One can feel the history and the high society spirit first hand. The hall and all corridors are beautifully decorated. Truly an experience. We went there for the concert midi. Great value for money. I can only recommend.

This iconic opera house is a must-see when visiting Paris. Its ornamental architecture and grandeur are breathtaking, with a gleaming interior that will leave you in awe. Its monumental size and beauty are a testament to the city's cultural history. A must-see for any traveler! But language is a barrier here, very few staff members understand or speak English

Wonderful to visit even without a proper tour! We bought tickets in advance for easy entry. The building is absolutely stunning. Photos without a ton of people in them can be tricky, but that’s to be expected. I really appreciated the ballet costumes and art pieces on display- an unexpected perk! It took us around an hour and a half to tour the whole building in its entirety. I’m sure one could complete it much quicker. Definitely worth a stop in Paris!!

This is one of the most beautiful places in Paris. If you come to Paris, this is a must see! This is definitely worth visiting. This is one of my wife's favourites place in Paris. From outside, the building is very fancy and beautiful, but when you get inside, it is another level, it’s magnificent. Also, the location is very accessible and very close to the Galeries Lafayette. The tour inside will take approximately 1 to 2 hours. Indeed, from the grand staircase, painting, chandeliers to the candelabras, everything make the atmosphere astonishing. Not to mention the theatre with the largest chandelier is absolutely worth your time to explore the Opera de Paris. I highly recommend!!!

Really beautiful architecture built during the rule of Napoleon III and its a must visit while you are in Paris. Every corner of this opera has been beautiful decorated with statues and carvings. The artefacts are really unique. One can easily spend 2-3 hours here appreciating the beauty of the architecture. I would highly recommend to visit this place.

What a history and what an architecture. Highly recommend taking the audio guide and going through every detail, it will change your experience on the opera house. Very room, every detail is thought for and designed with according to that time. It gets packed so you will have to very patient when clicking pictures, add extra time for that. We spent 2.5 hours.

I had never been here. I was amazed at the workmanship that went into every detail of this beautiful opera house. Go early and get a front of line pass because there are very long lines. We spent an hour and a half but could have stayed longer. It's a must-see and very reasonably priced. It's across from the Lafayette mall, which is just stunning.

What an incredible place. Words can't describe how beautiful this building is. Touring around doesn't take too long, and the map guide is concise to make the experience all the better. I hope that one day I can catch a show here. I'm blown away by the beauty of this place.

The opera building is really beautiful. I enjoyed the morning because there's not a lot of people. It's a pity that the main room was closed but it's worth walking through the corridors. I found the building and the decorations more beautiful than those in Versailles.

(Translated by Google) It's grand and lavish, with interiors that amaze everywhere you look, from mosaic floor patterns to richly decorated ceilings, from which wonderful chandeliers often hang. It also contains a section used as an art gallery, with a library. There are also various costumes worn during dance performances. Many date back to the period of Nureyev's artistic direction. To enter, we made very little queue. However, it should be noted that we had purchased the tickets online in advance. A visit is highly recommended. Beaucoup remontent à la période de la direction artistique de Noureev. Pour entrer, nous avons fait très peu de file d'attente. I have absolutely no words to describe the grand opulence that this place exudes. The bar is breathtakingly beautiful with a play of mirrors that make it look bigger than it is and the decorations are out of this world. The auditorium is grand and i will even fly to Paris just so i could watch a show there.

This is a must while in Paris, I enjoyed it as much as the Louvre and more than the Eiffel Tower. The architecture is breathtaking. Also, be sure to pay for the tablet guided tour (6 euro?), it's interactive and informative - very well done.

This is a “should see”. Architecture is awesome. Great pics everywhere you look. Cool history behind the structure and architect. Audio guide is a nice help but not required. You can definitely see it all in less than 45 minutes so don’t hesitate to enter at the last moment.

There are no words to describe the opulence of this building. The age, the stone work, the art and all the famous performances that have been hosted in this palace and opera house are endless. So glad we decided to enjoy a tour of the building and exhibitions. Unfortunately we were unable to obtain tickets to a performance.

One of the most beautiful buildings in Paris, well worth a visit. You can either get in with a guided tour or by yourself, then access to the auditorium will be limited. The tour is nice and informative, but in my opinion not well structured or gives the relevant pieces of information by default. The guide, Rita Was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions.

Definitely would put this place on the must visit list. It is so beautiful and grand. It's very busy and tons of people doing outfit changes and taking up space to take the perfect social media photo which could be annoying and funny at the same time. There's a bar in the beautiful hall where the balcony is and we had some champagne. Overall, amazing visit!

The opera building is stunning, both from the outside and inside. Before the performance or during breaks, you can explore and admire the architecture. It is advisable to book your tickets in advance online, and ensure punctuality, as latecomers may not be admitted until the next break. There are small bars offering snacks inside, but be prepared for long lines to them.

Walking into this beautiful opera house, you are instantly transported to the world of The Phantom of the Opera. This is the most exquisite opera house I have had the pleasure to visit. You must pay a ticket to get in (the museum pass does not qualify... sorry 😞). But it is easy enough as there are kiosks right in the lobby to purchase tickets. There are 4 in total. Two right as you walk in kn the right. And two more just a bit farther on the left. The ones on the left are in an alcove and you can easily miss it, most do. So keep an eye out for it. This will speed up your trip. Once in, you are allowed to walk the building exploring the museum. You even have an opportunity to go into one of the boxes to see the auditorium and stage. We were lucky as they were working on the lights on the stage, so it was lit up. They even have Box 5 reserved for The Phantom. All along the walls, there are busts of the great architects, composers, dancers, singers, scriptwriters, etc. who have contributed to the opera's history. I could go know and on about this beautiful building. I LOVED IT!

Really loved the guided tour! It was very informative and entertaining. Lasting about 1.5 hours, it was never boring; we were also allowed inside. We had the English tour. Although it was really busy at the time at the building, thanks to the tour, we were able to see the entire building and learn a lot about its history. I recommend reserving tickets via the website! At the entrance waiting for the guided tour to start there is no toilet, that was the only downside.

What an amazing Opera house! It was an absolutely incredible sight to see in person, the pictures do not do it justice. The entry tickets were €15 euros each but there were plenty of ways to obtain a discount ticket.

One of the best and most impressive sights of the city. The history and architecture are both stunning. I really recommend learning about the history of the culture and fashion of going to the opera when it was built during the Belle Époque. Such a fascinating space- the staircase is huge!

At the moment with Covid 19 it is a good idea to book online - you are offered time slots. Masks obligatory. The architecture is amazing, curves, columns, mosaic and mirrors. There's an opulence in the outer halls that suggests that a tub of ice cream is unlikely between acts 😊. You may be allowed a view of the auditorium from one of the boxes. But not N°5, a plaque marks it as that of the Phantom.

Great place to visit but stay off the grass. It was a fun adventure trying to locate the statue. The building next to the park is the French Senate and the security is real so be carful when approaching a security guard. The guards are very serous and do not care that your "just looking."

Magnificent!! We love the Opera de Paris. We didn’t take a guided tour and found the self guided audio tour very interesting. It enriched our visit & we learned so much about the history of the Opera house. Once your done here take a short walk to the Galeries Lafayette where you will find an amazing glass and steel dome built in 1912.

Palace garnier is absolutely stunning. It’s a great place to check out that’s a little taste of the beautiful and ornate French architecture without having to leave the main part of the city and go out. It’s only $15 and it’s so pretty. It doesn’t take much time to go through. It’s definitely worth checking out in Paris.

This is a very beautiful place to visit any day. On weekends there are more people going to this place. Tickets are sold inside so there is no need to buy them in advance. Plan to spend at least two hours inside to visit many beautiful halls and stairs, or simplt sit down and contemplate on this reach historical place.

Beautiful architecture at the heart of Paris. This building is definitely a highlight when visiting Paris. The surrounding are impressive but the inside even more. There’s a large avenue before reaching the Opéra, many “grand magasins” department store can be found next to it. That makes the location so convenient! This is a must to see.

(Translated by Google) It's so beautiful that we don't know where to start. Magnificent impressive architecture. The performance hall is in the tradition of Italian theaters, the so-called French horseshoe-shaped hall, due to the seating arrangement according to their category, was designed to see and be seen. Its metallic structure, masked by marble, stucco, velvet and gilding, supports the 8 tons weighed by the bronze and crystal chandelier equipped with 340 lights. The stage curtain was produced by the theater painters-decorators Auguste Rubé (1817-1899) and Philippe Chaperon (1823-1906), according to the instructions of Charles Garnier. The curtain was replaced identically in 1951 and then in 1996. The ceiling painted by Marc Chagall and commissioned by Minister of Culture André Malraux was inaugurated on September 23, 1964. Audio guide strongly recommended if you are not taking the tour with a guide. The charm and the mystery of this place are only revealed by a guided tour. A must see if you are passing through Paris.

The Palais Garnier (French: [palɛ ɡaʁnje] (About this soundlisten), Garnier Palace) or Opéra Garnier (French: [ɔpeʁa ɡaʁnje] (About this soundlisten), Garnier Opera), is a 1,979-seat[3] opera house at the Place de l'Opéra in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, France. It was built for the Paris Opera from 1861 to 1875 at the behest of Emperor Napoleon III.[4] Initially referred to as "le nouvel Opéra de Paris" (the new Paris Opera), it soon became known as the Palais Garnier,[5] "in acknowledgment of its extraordinary opulence"[6] and the architect Charles Garnier's plans and designs, which are representative of the Napoleon III style. It was the primary theatre of the Paris Opera and its associated Paris Opera Ballet until 1989, when a new opera house, the Opéra Bastille, opened at the Place de la Bastille.[7] The company now uses the Palais Garnier mainly for ballet. The theatre has been a monument historique of France since 1923.

Our Lady in the Harbor. An amazing sight and worth the visit. The boat leaves from Battery Park. Buy your tickets on line in advance. Also, your entry into the Statue is separate - the boat ticket just gets you to the island. By the way, the boat also goes to Ellis Island - an awesome place and in essence our story as Americans. Everyone should do this.

No doubt this building is a palace dedicated to Opera. For 12 euros the self guided tour is just OK. You will be able to visit the extensive three story lobby and opulent gathering spaces around the Opera House. We were unable however to enter the actual theater or even really see it except they're a very small plastic window. I enjoyed the displays of a few of the costumes.

Opera is not the first thing you think about visiting when you are in Paris, but I have to admit that it was one of the most wonderful places we have visited. The atmosphere is so classy, dreamy and unusual. The dealings and the stairway are majestic. There are lots of dresses that were worn by the dancers during their performances. The visit is not very long and you can take the audio-guide if you’d like. The price of the ticket is reduced if you are under 26 and are from EU. Staff at the entrance is nice. I advice you to get ticket in advance, although we went at opening hour (10:00 am) and we entered after 20 minutes. I give 4 stars because the inside theatre of the Opera was not accessible due to works. Overall I recommend.

Grenier Opera. It was from her that the architects were carved for their projects, and it was both a source of inspiration and a copying object, and then to become a pride, in those cities where the initiators of the great Garnier built their own replicas of Opéra. Under his main creations Garnier designed all tangent quarters and the very area. No less well-known coffee shop de la Paix, also its creation. As for me, this is where the Paris tuning station is, whispering to the city rhythm. Here is his heart and soul on the city.

The building of Incredible Beauty both outside and inside is a Real Palace. I can't even believe that it was created by the Human mind, Human Hands, Human Talent. And this Perfect Man-Made Beauty has become the home of the Beauty of Ballet and Opera. The French, with their attitude to Beauty, proved that their nation is real Aesthetes. If you will not be able to attend a performance at the Palais Garnier, then at least enjoy a wonderful tour of this Magnificent Palace.

Go for the guided tour in English at 5pm, after the Opera closes. It’s completely worth it. No crowds, the guide is informative and you’ll get stunning crowd-free photos/videos.

You should book tickets in advance!! Such a beautiful monument to visit, the architecture is just breathtaking! Unfortunately it was very crowded so if you want to take pictures, it‘ll be basically impossible without people in the background, but I guess that‘s something to expect in Paris. The only downside is, that the opera room most likely won‘t be open when you visit.

Opera Garnier was one of the few tourist attractions in Paris that i really enjoyed and left me speechless! The ticket is €15, i visited it during the opening, there was a waiting line but it was moving quite fast. The beauty, the history and magic of this place is really unique. The architecture, the decoration, the philosophy and the art is all over Palais Garnier. My favorite rooms of the opera house are the Golden room and the sitting area where the stage is. It's a famous attraction for tourists. The are restrooms, they are clean but busy. Although something was missing for me it's definitely a must visit when you are in Paris.

Did the after hours 'mysteries' tour. Though there was nothing remotely mysterious about it, nor access to places not available during open hours, I found it enjoyable and informative. Guide was good and group not too big. The building itself is magnificent and kind of a must for Phantom of the Opera lovers!

Simply breathtaking! Opera Garner is one of the most impressive buildings I have ever stepped in 😍 From architectural design to the art collection, and the impact on the culture that it had Opera Garnier can proudly carry the name of one of the most iconic operas in the world. Surrounded by the misery of the Gaston Leroux novel The Phantom of the Opera it will inspire you to explore all of its mysteries.

Spectacular building! What a great place to see an afternoon performance. Their are lifts between the floors and toilets on all floors. Not all the Cloakrooms were open when we went but the first one downstairs was available. We were on the third level and the view was perfect, the sound great, what a good experience

This was such an unexpected delight. I went back in June and go to enjoy with pretty much only a couple of people. The ceiling was one of my favourites since it had been done by Changal. I would definitely recommend going in the morning to avoid the busy times. Was also lucky enough to get to watch them install and try knew backdrops for the next show. Definitely a must if you are in paris ! Make sure to also check out the balcony because you will get to see an incredible view

I wish they would open up more of the opera house to visitors. On the day we went, there were only two boxes that were open and people were prohibited from going into the orchestra. This pretty much leaves the stair case and the grand salon, which are both quite grand and extremely opulent but don't leave yo feeling like you can imagine what it would be like to actually see a performance here. Plan to be done with your visit in less than an hour.

  • 4/5 ASLIDDIN S. 2 years ago on Google
The Palais Garnier has been called "probably the most famous opera house in the world, a symbol of Paris like Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre, or the Sacré Coeur Basilica." This is at least partly due to its use as the setting for Gaston Leroux's 1910 novel The Phantom of the Opera and, especially, the novel's subsequent adaptations in films and the popular 1986 musical. Another contributing factor is that among the buildings constructed in Paris during the Second Empire, besides being the most expensive, it has been described as the only one that is "unquestionably a masterpiece of the first rank." This opinion is far from unanimous however: the 20th-century French architect Le Corbusier once described it as "a lying art" and contended that the "Garnier movement is a décor of the grave". The Palais Garnier also houses the Bibliothèque-Musée de l'Opéra de Paris (Paris Opera Library-Museum), which is managed by the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and is included in unaccompanied tours of the Palais Garnier.

One of the famous landmarks of Paris that you should definitely visit. The building is majestic on the outside but also very beautiful on the inside. As it is to be expected, If you want to go to an event you must have booked your ticket months ago. Another reason why you should go there is because this is where all hop-on, hop-off buses make a stop, actually one of the companies has the starting point there.

I'll never forget the looks of awe and inspiration everyone had once we made it into the main hall. The entire interior of the building is covered with gorgeous paintings and other various works of art. Entrance was 12 € (8 for ages 12 to 25). Definitely needs and second if not a third visit to take it all in and really embrace it for what it is.

Such a beautiful place, with wonderful guided tours and full of history and lore. There’s a queue to enter even with pre-purchased tickets and sometimes they send you to the wrong queue once inside. Make sure you are queuing in the right place (for example, for guided tours you have to go by the ticket booth to get your audio devices and sometimes they will tell you to go straight in which is wrong).

The face of the building facing the river is currently being restored/fixed so there is a large printed canvas covering the building, but worry not the Theater is still open. There are some nice rooms to pose for those looking just to snap a few pics. If looking for a "level down Beauty & the beast ball room Instagram location", in the right corner of the /, 2nd floor building there is a nice room with large windows & dome roof. You know when you see it, is just following the hallway of mirrors. For the rest of us nerds the audio guide is worth it as it explains all the artwork, pieces and history of the Palace.

Amazing tour after it was closed to the public. Our guide William for the English tour was fantastic, he was engaging and you can see the passion he has for the Opera house. Will definitely be back for another tour.

Very interesting visit of this cultural highlight of Paris. I learned many new things. Did you know that they forgot to invite the architect Garnier to the Grand Opening? He had to buy a ticket to attend the opening of his masterpiece!
